Prince of India in Scottish Borders

I've eaten here twice now and really enjoyed the food the second time around. Everything we ate was fresh and very tasty. The atmosphere is lacking as there have only been a few other diners while I've been there. My visits have been out of season, which may explain it. I refused the 10% service charge the first time but accepted it the second. Remember, you don't have to pay it!

A bit disappointed with the flavours and pieces of what we ordered. I ordered a paneer dish that had very little pieces of it (4) and mostly peas. Not really worth the price in my opinion. On the plus side, our server was pretty attentive and kind.

Very tasty food and great service. Would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves a good curry

One of the best curries I have had!

No atmosphere (only 1 table occupied on a Friday evening, rest of the restaurant was empty). Very grumpy staff. Really expensive for what you get. Even charging a 10% service charge whilst prices for the 'sit-in' menu are already higher than the 'take-away' prices. Food not the best, definitely not for the price paid.

Met friends to celebrate our engagement told them when booking for set lunch Menu given at table, set lunch when bill arrived they had charged us for the alacarte menu, refused to pay this bill x

Third quality food. Pls buy some frozen Indian food from any shop and you will get better quality and taste. Can't even rate 0 which is too much. Pls avoid.

I can’t recall ever having a worse restaurant experience. The customer service was non-existent and the food was awful. The curries were very sweet and distasteful and the naan bread was pink (food colouring???). The waiter and the staff working there were outright rude, not helpful and acted very unprofessional and arrogant. Very disappointed.

I felt a bad experience from this hotel right now. One of the staff was disrespectful towards us. He was rude at telling the space needed to be reserved before, through booking.

Different to the usual Indian restaurant. Lovely food

11 of us had a meal here and we were all pleased with our choices. The tandoori chicken was spicy but not too hot. The shashlick was sizzling and tasty with onions peppers and tomatoes. Garlic rice was a little greasy but still tasty.

I can honestly say one of the worst Indians I have had. The food was well below regular high street standard. Extortionate prices for the tiniest portion. They advertise a tandoori mixed grill online with all the trimmings, going into the shop to order they say it’s all paid seperate. The mixed grill had a horrible dry bit of boned chicken and a tiny piece of the rest. And the Naan, if you could call it that, was so small it was almost not worth having. For the cost and quality. Avoid Service wasn’t that great either and we were taking away!!!

£10 for 2 cake balls. Shameful. Portions tiny, ate in a tent for a laugh. One and done ordeal.

Very mediocre…decor is very dated and was obviously very nice back in the day, could do with modernizing! Service very average and food absolutely nothing to write home about at all! Meat not marinaded, wished we’d got a take away from Shukria just around the corner! Watch out for the service charge that gets slapped on the bill which, if anybody does that to us, I request for it to be taken off! I’ll tip depending on service level not because you feel like adding another £10 onto already very overpriced food! I pay good money for good food, not good money for poor quality food! Won’t be returning, not a great experience for us!

I ordered a £35 order of King prawn biriyani, sag dall & vegetables. The prawns were rubbery and had very little taste and neither did the rice or sauces. I then stupidly ordered again from them this evening. Chicken pakora (which I don't actually like and meant to order vegetable pakora, but that was my mistake, so decided to eat it anyway as I'd paid for it and didn't want to have to call again to complain). The batter was soft not crispy as you would expect the batter to be. The chicken was as dry as old leather boots and completely tasteless. The salad tub had very little salad in it and the cucumber did not taste very fresh and had a funny taste. The sauce with the pakora was about 4 teaspoons in the tub and hardly enough to feed a pigeon. The garlic nan was also not dry cooked enough and was very pale and doughie & like cardboard round the edges I could hardly bite a mouthful from the bread as it was like eating cardboard. I'm so disappointed in the whole 2 orders costing in total £50 and a complete waste of money and will never order from them again in the future as the last 3 previous times I've ordered, there have been issues with the orders being wrong when they arrived. I gave them so many chances to get the food orders right and to provide me with food that has taste, texture and fresh tasting food and they just don't come up to par with other Indian cuisine I've ordered from other places in the past and being the only restaurant on just eat where I live; next time I will drive to the next village to a more reputable Indian restaurant who can cook Indian food authentically. I don't know how this restaurant survives as I've had so many issues I'm surprised they are even still in business. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for well cooked authentic and tasty Indian cuisine as it doesn't come up to standard and is the worst I have ever tasted.

Me and my better half was out and about and decided to stop off in Peebles to have a wee look around. We decided to get something to eat to save cooking when we got home. We went in here,, was told that they was fully booked but if you come back around eight o'clock they might have a table,, we returned at eight o'clock to find a beautifully set table for two. The service we received was second to none and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the Prince of India to anyone. We will definitely be going to dine there again.

Very quiet but great food and service.

Great food, with good portions + lots of variety. Had a lamb madras and Allo mushrooms and it was really nice. Rice portions are small so recommend 1 a person. Naans were also really great

Booked a week before ,arrived and no booking and the woman was rude . Got seated ,she then started taking the drinks order ,the manager came over and said don't listen to her she knows nothing . Ordered our mains they arrived and they were four different dishes ,however they all tasted the same but varying degrees of strength. Hardly any chicken in them and mine was bland . I'm writing this on the toilet you make your own mind up . Awful

I was working in Scotland and I tend to stay in Peebles where I can. Very nice place. So I decided to go out to dinner here and I thought the food was really tasty, freshly prepared and the service was excellent. I'll come again.

We had a fantastic meal on Saturday 18th Feb. Myself, my husband & two children had starters (vegetable & chicken pakora) , poppadoms & 3 main meals (chicken tikka masala, chicken balti jalfrezi & chicken balti) & 3 pilau rice. Every single thing was extremely tasty, very well cooked & brought to us at well timed intervals. I would definitely go back again & definitely recommend going to those that are unsure! None of us felt bloated or overly full, which I sometimes feel after eating at Indian restaurants. Well worth the money - you get what you pay for 🙌 Great job - well done Prince if India 🤩

No idea why the average is 3.x this place is entirely above average for a curry house. I'd rate it 4.0-4.5, but rating it 5 to bring the average up. Service excellent, cost is on the cheap side, quality of food was great. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Underrated. Food was tasty, discernible spices as opposed to generic mush. Bahjis were particularly good...

We had a buetiful meal the lady was very nice the only downside was we had a meal each shared 1 rice between us and shared a large bottle of beer. When the final bill came I questioned it as it was £12 more than my calculations and her answer was everything has went up in price don't go by the menu prices Had she said when we arrived that wouldn't have been a problem instead I had to question it and was very embarrassed on having to do so.

Very very poor, pint of Diet Coke poured for a plastic bottle, was flat and charged nearly £15 for 3 of these. Add £4.94 for a service charge, also not been well since I ate at this place. 🤢🤢🤢

We were staying in Peebles last week and were recommended this little gem during our stay. A traditional Indian restaurant where the service was fast and the food was piping hot and delicious. We were not disappointed and would definitely recommend. If we ever returned to the town we would be back again!

Staying in Peebles and fancied an Indian so chose to order a takeaway for two from here as looked good from the outside. We should have read the reviews, in short the food was very poor, lacking in any real quality. Easily the worst Indian meal I have ever had. H

THE CHICKEN TIKKA WAS HORRIBLE IT WAS'NT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS WORSE I WON'T BE ORDERING FROM HERE AGAIN.

Service was very slow and had to ask several times for drinks. Plates were boiling hot to the point that the waiter told us we could take one as it was too hot for him to pass 😂.. Staff were ‘entertaining’. However, we cannot fault the food - it was delicious and worth waiting for! I think they are clearly having staffing issues which is a problem for all businesses and not their fault. Overall a good night was had!l - we had a good night!

A wee gem. Good old fashioned curry house, warm welcome from proprietor, stunning food. Tandoori grill absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended.

We visited Peebles previous week where we noticed the menu. Unfortunately it was to early and the restaurant was closed. The menu was so interesting that we revisited the next week Brilliant choice of food for meat eaters and veggies. My partner had mixed kebab which had flavoursome meats, As for myself I had mushroom stuffed with mince never had this before but will definitely have again. Once again something new for both of us Garlic fish and Kula Kata Massalam Both dishes amazingbfull of flavours. The choice was so good made it difficult to choose Needless to say we will have to return to sample more. The place had a nice atmosphere bright and airy. Nice to have a wee break between courses Would have no hesitation in recommending this restraunt

ordered at 18:04 for takeout delivery, eventually arrived at 1945 (when it says 45minutes for delivery), food was barely lukewarm so i had to microwave everything. also, peas in an onion bahji is just no! this was the first order since around 2016, had a bad experience then and this has not changed that opinion. definitely will never order or eat here ever. again. Shukria FTW!

If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. Went in on Saturday night,.no booking, waitor tried to put is in a bad positioned table, we refused , the female started speaking to the waitor in their own language, luckily for us the person I was with could understand and spoke up. We then got moved to another table, the female member of staff came over to us and asked us "what we wanted to drink" then the phone rang and she just answered , no excuse me or anything and walked back to the bar. We stood up and walked out. Her attitude was a disgrace ... If you want to go somewhere where they appreciate your custom then avoid here. Plenty of other establishments in Pebbles where they will make you feel welcome

Visited this restaurant last Sunday night . The food was outstanding and so was the staff . We were pushed for time but the owner went above and beyond to have our food out quickly and booked us a taxi . Best lamb pathia I have tasted and my friends were equally impressed with theres . Will definitely be returning next time we are in Peebles 10/10

Worst Indian restaurant in the history of Indian restaurants!

I was there on bank holiday Monday & I wasn’t offered a drink after waiting 40 mins so we all left -ignorant owner ,under staffed ! 1 star is over rating .

The food was good. I think it was a bit expensive (£11 for a curry). I was annoyed that 2 people, ordering poppadoms, 2 mains and a naan to share, were hassled to buy more rice and naans. It was the perfect quantity for us, more food would have been unnecessary, and we ordered drinks. Just felt rude.

We have ordered food from Prince of India for years and always been very happy. We ordered a takeaway through their website for collection. A 24 mile round trip but usually worth it. When we got home we discovered they had failed to give us 6 of the items ordered. I phoned them and an extremely rude man shouted at me. Over the next week I phoned again and sent multiple emails asking for a refund of £20 for the missing items. No response. Eventually had to involve PayPal who took the payment and have finally been issued a refund. Very disappointed with the restaurants attitude and sadly won't be ever ordering from them again.

Ordered for collection half a dozen times from 'The Prince of India' the set meal for 2, which included: the lamb madras curry, pilau rice, chicken pakora, salad, poppadums and sauces... I'm a big curry fan, and I have to the food is absolutely excellent, and the staff are very professional and friendly... I can see why this restaraunt/takeaway has won awards, i would definately recommend The Prince of India to friends and family!

4 of us with varying tastes from korma to vindaloo all were delicious and prices very reasonable.

Quite the worst meal I’ve had for some years. Was celebrating a new job with a takeaway, and was so totally disappointed- both meals were filled with half cooked cauliflower and cabbage, watery sauce that seared my tastebuds. I usually support local business but this was something else. Phoned to let them know and they could not have cared less. Don’t bother unless you like getting ripped off. Shukria in the old town is 400% better.

We eat Indian food regularly. We shared a starter of pakora which was plenty for the both of us. We each had a different main course. Both were great. Will certainly be back next time we are in Peebles. Certainly social distancing when we were there

Ate here on Friday, ordered tandoori mixed Grill and was so disappointed they must have ran out of meat ! And had the cheek to charge £15.99 for the dish - shame on you !!Not only that, there was a crowd of 9 what could only be described as 9 loud lager louts at a table could hardly hear our own conversation for them ( apparently the new social distancing rules don’t apply in here ) Will never rerun here !!!!!!

Staff in this restaurant have a blatant disregard for Covid guidance. I visited on Friday evening and there was a group of 9 people sitting together who were clearly from more than 2 different households. The group did not wear masks when they got up from the table and were not challenged by staff. The manager made a vague apology when I challenged him - he seems to be putting profit before public health. I've visited this restaurant fairly regularly over the last few years but I won't be back.

There four of us from 2 households having a meal here. The food was fine, the service was patchy. Had to ask for another beer twice in 15 minutes and also had to ask for the bill twice in 15 minutes. The but is as follows: one of the waiter had a face mask on but most of the time it. Ever covered his nose, so what was the point of wearing one. The other matter, there was a table of 8 men with a table of 5 men next to the, obviously golfers here for the weekend. The problem was at this time the maximum amount of people you are supposed to have is 6 at a table from 2 households and this was obviously not the case here. I am considering reporting this to the appropriate people as this was obviously flouting the rules.

Delicious curry, excellent service, highly recommend. We love a paneer tikka curry and a chicken tikka curry. Rogan josh was lovely.

Disappointing. Weekend away and reserved a table for 4 on Saturday evening. No social distancing to the extent a table walked out as they were too close to other tables. Service was way too slow......took 2 hours to serve us although not that busy. Over priced with a "standard" main course around £11. Starters at around £4.50-£5 very small portions. Food was OK but "hot"/spicy even for a patia which is usually mild. Unfortunately won`t go back in a hurry.

Booked a table midweek on a trip to Peebles. The restaurant was reasonably busy with a good atmosphere.The food was pretty good and service was decent. The menu was quite extensive and plenty for most tastes.The cost was about average for Indian restaurants. The decor is a little dated but overall pretty good.

Great Indian restaurant. Nicely decorated and we received a warm welcome from the staff. They appeared to be a bit understaffed as the service was rather slow but we were not in a hurry so it was not a problem for us. The menu has a great selection of dishes some of which I hadn't seen anywhere else. The food was delicious and everybody in our group enjoyed their meal. Loses a star because of the slow service and the washrooms which although adequate were in need of attention to bring them up to the same standard as the rest of the premises.
