Prego in South Lanarkshire

What a lovely Mother’s Day meal at Prego today. Each course was exceptional and service was excellent. Roger was friendly as usual and even selected an appropriate wine, off the wine list, which complemented the meal perfectly. I had forgotten how wonderful Prego is.

Really disappointed with our latest visit to the restaurant! We visited for Valentine’s Day thinking we were going to have a lovely meal out at one of our favourite places - who was I kidding?! We were welcomed by the manager, who asked someone to seat us. One of the girl waitresses took our drinks order & we also mentioned we were ready to place our order, she replied “that’s fine I’ll go get Rodger” … why on earth does he have to do everything when you have staff there to do the simple things like that? The managers trying to welcome people as they come in, seat people, take orders and what not. It just wasn’t working in my opinion, especially on a busy night like Valentine’s Day! We had our starter, along with first round of drinks. I ordered a second cocktail to go along with my main. Our mains came out, no drink to be seen. Finished our mains and the waiter asked if we would like another drink? I said no thanks, I did order one about 35mins ago but I’ve sat here and watched you all serve other tables drinks and not came back with mine, can I just cancel that please?! He went order to Rodger, told him to which he came over and made a big scene at our table in front of the whole restaurant. Which was mortifying to say the least! I got worked up, upset and embarrassed and my partner was angry and annoyed too. Instead of waiting until we left to address matters, he made a point of coming to our table and making a big fuss?! He’s so loud and annoying, everyone could hear what was going on. I was so embarrassed and angry to say it was an understatement. We decided to have dessert, to which he decides to come and slam another pot of caramel sauce on my plate whilst I’m eating my dessert and walks off 🤷🏻‍♀️?! I mean what even?! … we paid £77 for our evening meal, which isn’t much cheaper than normal (considering the menu said it was a Valentines Day deal) … we went to pay, again he causes another scene at the front desk, being so false and pushy saying “everyone’s leaving happy” .. happy? No I’m sorry, we left absolutely fuming at what we just experienced and went through. The service was slow. The waiters/waitresses can’t do their blooming jobs without the manager getting in their way. The evening was just a shambles! We really love coming here for food as it’s our local and we love the food, however both my partner and I have agreed that we will not be back for a long while yet as the manager has really annoyed us and put us off even booking there again for food, which is gutting as we normally come once a month for date night as we love the place that much! Seriously disappointed & angry still with what happened that night.

Starter was amazing then main was really really good the food is very flavourful and fresh would highly recommend. 5.out 5 .

The restaurant was busy but the manager took time to talk to us personally. The atmosphere was very good and we did not feel rushed. Food was good and lots of choice.

Mixed feelings on our last visit. The starter was lovely and I couldn’t fault it. However the main of lasagne wasn’t nice at all. Very, very dry, meat seemed to be burnt, the sauce was extremely sharp. Personally I wouldn’t have served it. A shame as again the starter was lovely but the lasagne was really bad. The staff were so friendly so I didn’t want to make a big deal of it. I’d maybe return but definitely opt for a different main.

Arrived for dinner and drinks with a few girlfriends. Saw the cheese pull on the garlic bread from a viral TikTok and knew we had to try. Guy who seated us was eccentric but charming and efficient. Ordered our drinks from a good selection and all going well. Starter came out. They were nice. I ordered bruschetta which was nice. The mains really let it down through. The lasagne was burnt, dry and stodgy and the “garlic bread” was toasted cheese so disappointed. My friend pollo Milanese which was tasteless. My friend has a pizza and that was delicious she said. I would have made a compliant and sent it back but there wasn’t a single waiter or waitress to be seen for about 20 minutes. No one asked how our meal was, offered us any more drinks (we only had the one as they didn’t offer us another!). Overall TikTok fad it seems and super disappointed.

Took friends for dinner on an extremely quiet evening! Heart sank when we arrived but in fact we had an absolutely wonderful evening! Food was, as always excellent, but it was the staff who really enhanced the night! Both the owners son and our delightful diminutive waitress were attentive and entertaining from the moment we arrived! Service here is always good but last night it was exceptional!

We ate here yesterday as a family if 4. We had a set menu for easter snd it didn’t disappoint, great choice of food. Tasted very fresh. Staff were lovely and made our experience even more enjoyable. Nice to see a local restaurant so busy

Visited this modern restaurant a few weeks ago, me and my friend enjoyed some pizza and pasta and a bottle of wine. It was a little bit pricy but if you go for the lunch or early evening menu it’s a very good deal. We will be back!

We’ve been to Pregos as a family (4 adults 1 young child) many times now and we have always have a fantastic dining experience. The food is always delicious, classic Italian dishes that are always served at there absolute best. The staff are so friendly and full of great chat that it starts to feel like you’re visiting friends. (On a side note managed to convince my 3 year old that if they ate their dinner they would be given ice cream and it worked!)

A truly wonderful experience at Prego tonight. Shared platter to start, specials for main and shared Nutella cheesecake for dessert. The food was spectacular and the service was exemplary. Terrific value all round with a lovely welcoming atmosphere. A great restaurant run by people who love truly love food. Would recommend to anyone.

I have been to Prego many times since it first opened. Food is always tasty but on recent visit on a busy Saturday night myself and rest of my group felt portion size had reduced considerably. Prawn dish had very small portion of rice and pasta dish again considerably smaller than a few years ago. Pizzas a reasonable size. Desserts also noticeably smaller than they used to be. After a £65 pp bill (wine included) the consensus of group was sadly we did not get value for money and would think again about returning.

Avoid! £20 and I received 4 prawns and a flurry of rocket leaves. My wife after a£31 defrosted fillet steak, completely unedable. We both met a ouple outside the restaurant who also had a bad experience. Young waitress was hostile. Absolute disgrace.

Tuesday night and decided on a dinner out with my friend. Was fairly busy for a Tuesday but they found us a table (although tightly packed whereas we could have been seated at the quieter top section) Good selection to choose from and food was good. Lost points due to no pate, steak a bit fatty and mushroom bruschetta had a tiny bit of bread. On the whole, service was very good, food well presented and good value so we enjoyed our meal.

So hadn’t been here for a couple of years until the weekend and probably will be another couple before I’m back. Food was ok had gamberri for starter which is a king prawn in chilli butter sauce with salad. Was ok but small 4 prawns. They never had mussels, fillet steak or sea bass available so had sirloin steak, fries and salad for main. Asked me if I wanted a sauce so I said yes pepper corn. What I didn’t realise was I was going to get my steak on a separate plate drowned in it with a thimble basically with about 6 chips and had to ask where my salad was. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as did I apart from being small and drowned in pepper corn sauce.

Was so looking forward to lunch at Prego after lockdown.. disappointing would be an understatement. Price up by 25%. Portions and quality down by 50%. Bruchetta was 1/2 slice of bread with a few mushrooms, with minnute side salad. Pollo prego had watery sauce and portion size very small. Both my partner and I left still hungry after a 2 course and a soft drink each costing £40.

Had lunch with family today to celebrate my birthday, excellent meal service was great and catered for a gluten free vegetarian very well. Kids loved there make your own pizza. I think we overstayed our time slot it was just so lovely to be out with family and time slipped away, so sorry guys butThank you for a lovely afternoon

Click and collect order ready at the allotted time, and the prices were middle of the road. I had the pepperoni pizza and it was probably the most tasteless pizza i have ever had. The pizza was far to dry and crispy. I also had a side order of the “homemade” fries, i very much doubt they were, again bland amd tasteless. My wife had the spag bol it was in her view nothing special.

Such a delicious treat - the best Italian food for miles around. Amazing starters, pasta and pizza cooked to perfection and a well-deserved dessert for good measure (it’s been a tough week for us all with lockdown being reinstated)! Served at home as fresh and warm as it would have been in the restaurant itself - we don’t know how you managed it! The staff here just go above and beyond. Thanks so much

First visit for some time and not disappointed. Food and service excellent. Only slight downside was one of our party thought the pepper sauce was very watery and tasteless.

So glad we chose Pregos for our first post lockdown meal. The whole experience was very relaxed and enjoyable, we also noticed the staff being very conscientious with the new sanitising routines. Years since we ate here so made use of eat out to help out for lunch.Simply first class from food to service. The sourdough bread for the bruschetta was delightful. I don't normally have pasta as I feel it can be a restaurant hit or a miss but tempted in Prego with the penne salcissia.....it did not disappoint. From starters to coffee this was excellent.

Tonight was our first proper post lockdown meal out. I’d be lying if I was to say we weren’t slightly nervous about being able to distance and stay safe, I think most people probably feel the same just now, but as soon as we arrived at the restaurant our mind was put at rest. There was sanitizer at the door, then also at the doors to the toilet, there were less tables than normal to help with maintaining a safe distance, but that was actually really nice and it didn’t take anything away from the usual lovely ambience. The menus were a QR code that you scanned to view on your phone and the staff were very helpful in demonstrating this. Anyway, onto the important part, the food. It was delicious, there had been a few tweaks to the menu and we loved it. To start we had the gamberi and mushroom bruschetta, both perfect, the gamberi in particular were perfectly cooked and the sauce in which they were served was beautiful. For the main event it was a personal favourite, the sirloin tagliata, one of my pet hates is when my steak isn’t cooked the way I like it, I often find rare can come as medium or even approaching well done, that isn’t the case here, perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife had a new dish that was strips of beef served in a mushroom type sauce, with mash and a haggis croquet. It was quite stroganoff like and was very tasty. For dessert it was afogato and another favourite, the Prego sticks with chocolate sauce. All in all we had a lovely evening great food and drink in a lovely safe setting. I think everyone is having to adapt to the new normal, but if it’s going to be like this, it’s not painful at all.

Fabulous food! This gem of a restaurant never disappoints! Food is phenomenal and service is equally great! One of our favourite places to eat - prices are very reasonable when taking account of the quality of the dining experience. I would highly recommend!

As (very!) regular customers pre-lockdown, we have just enjoyed a lovely take away. All the food was as fresh and tasty as ever and very nicely packaged etc. So glad we are able to enjoy our favourite food at home for the time being.

Ordered lockdown takeout three times - took a while to get through on phone at first but got easier last few weeks. Prego are running their basic menu, which feels like a treat - well cooked, presented and good value. The collection is easy and maintains social distancing. We all need to support local businesses through this period and we are grateful to the Prego staff for opening and continuing to serve delicious food.

Birthday treat for mother in law to her favourite restaurant which has recently been fully refurbished. We all chose from the pre theatre menu which is such great value. Portion sizes are just right. Once again, we enjoyed our experience.

Have been coming here for many years although haven’t been for several months and wanted to go to see it since it’s recent refurbishment and try the new menu. Plenty of old favourites there as well as delicious new additions. Would highly recommend the Prego sticks for pudding. I can never see past them!Decor looks stunning too and sampled some cocktails off the menu too. Particularly like the gin cocktails. Staff are pleasant and welcoming as always and we were neither rushed or left waiting.

Had an early evening meal here last night and it ticked all the boxes. This is our third visit to Prego and service was impeccable as usual. The restaurant has had a refurbishment and it’s really smart.Our meal was amazing I went for the special of the day Hake, with spinach and sweet potato wedges it was just perfect, fish melted in my mouth and everything complimented each other. My partner has the strips of beef in a mushroom and drambuie with the mash it it was amazing well the small taste that he offered he doesn’t like to share his food!, We didn’t opt for a sweet as neither of us needed anything else.Staff are not intrusive at all and couldn’t be more helpful thanks for another great evening. Popped in for lunch, food was good but the Arrabiatta sauce lacked any chilli flavour, more like Pomodoro , minestrone soup was good, smoked ham and pea risotto was nice but peas were all blended - tiramisu was out of this world! Only complaint the heating wasn’t on so place was freezing. Friendly professional staff.

The staff are lovely and the food is very good. The tortellini alfredo is especially good, though very rich and filling. Excellent sundaes.High chair was provided for the baby in our party.My only bit of constructive feedback would be that it would be absolutely fantastic if they offered the option of having the pasta dishes made with wholegrain pasta instead of the refined stuff. (Or indeed if wholegrain was used by default. It's so much healthier and more flavourful!)

Great restaurant with a varied menu and one of the best calamari dishes I've ever eaten.Being going here for years and never disappointed. My wife loves the amatricano but honestly everything is of a quality. Manager/owner is knowledgeable and a real character. Always made welcome and will go back again and again.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The food is exceptional and the owner is a gentleman. He genuinely cares that you enjoy your meal and experience in his premises. This is one of my favourite restaurants and will remain this way due to the quality of products, service and taste. Well worth a visit.

Have visited a few times and this place gets better and better. Menu has all the dishes you would expect. The food itself is really good and the service was quick, helpful and friendly. So if your looking for a good Italian in the Clyde valley this is worth a visit but best to book.

If you’re like me you’d always think you have to travel to the bigger towns to find a reputable Italian restaurant, however this place blows that theory out the water! Visited this place quite a few times now and can always say I’ve left thoroughly satisfied. The mozzarella sticks are OUTSTANDING and if you order one thing get them. There is a wide range of other items on the menu, of which I tend to stick to the same kind of things however, if it’s ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Would highly recommend this place.

Been here numerous times and always had a fabulous meal. Staff and management always very welcoming and deal with issues immediately. Had a bit of an issue with my Filetto Rossini last night. Not too sure how a chef could get it so wrong - twice, but Manager was so apologetic. It definitely hasn't put me off returning, just a busy busy night I suppose. Next time - third time lucky??

A fab restaurant with fantastic food, whether it's the early evening menu or A la carte I couldn't fault a thing we ate. The staff (Rob & Paul) were extremely friendly and helpful and even although it was fairly busy we didn't have to wait for service. Will be back again soon!

Visiting from London and so glad we stumbled upon this lovely restaurant. Very stylist decor and could easily be in my top 3 (compared to other places I've eaten) for service and food quality. All staff amazing and owner very attentive,friendly and great attention to detail.

Discovered this place when a few of us were staying nearby, and what a find! Very welcoming, good atmosphere as it appears very popular. Good selection of dishes, a daily specials list, and great service. The affogato we had for dessert was the best! A glass of Amaretto, a cup of espresso and a scoop of ice cream so you can assemble as you like it! Great place to eat

Have reviewed before visited in August for a friends birthday found improved from last time. lasagne best I have had outside of Italy in a long time. Staff very friendly only thing was price of white wine spritzer seemed a bit high.

My wife and I were headed back to Lanark and as usual we were a bit lost. We decided to stop at the next place we came across and to our fortune it turned out to be Prego. We were seated right away and our drinks were ordered and delivered. Dinner for me was chicken and spaghetti and she had tortellini. Both were delicious and made to order. For dessert she had amaretto, ice cream and espresso and I had the best sticky pudding I have ever had. The food to value ratio was very good and service was attentive. I would recommend this place.

Visited with a group of 6. Nice choice of food some with a Scottish twist. Some good set menu choices at keen prices.

Friendly and welcoming staff, value for money, too quality food and drinks. Would recommend to family’s and people who are looking for good food.

Just had a wonderful night at Prego Carluke. The service and atmosphere was perfect and the menu had plenty of options for us all. Food was perfectly cooked and delicious and my “ off menu” dessert request was happily met.

Prego - another of our go to places. Good menu choices. Welcoming, friendly, attentive staff. Delightful decor, many mementos of the family who own & manage, despite Italian origins, have deep, local roots. Assets to the community.

There was seven in our party and we all enjoyed our meal.lt was fairly busy when we arrived. By 8.30 it was empty but for two tables. We used the early evening menu and it was good value for money.We all got caught out with there being no vegetables with the mains. perhaps a prompt from the waiter would have alerted us.
