Tapas style food which was all cooked to perfection with every dish being delicious. Visited on a windy day and the sliding roof was great to shelter from the wind. Entirely our fault but we forgot we had booked with a dog (who we then didn’t take as we thought they weren’t dog friendly) so we were sat in the more outdoor area which isn’t as welcoming as the indoor area or booths. Would definitely recommend.

Ate here on a rather windy evening but the sliding windows/roof provided for some much needed shelter. The sun was shining and setting beautifully and surfers were enjoying the late waves. There were patio heaters above a lot of the tables too which was great, nothing worse than shivering through your 3 courses. The staff were friendly and attentive but then sometimes forgot about you. Not an issue until you need something like another drink or the bill or when you get asked 'have I taken your drinks order?'. Food was very good, had the sirloin steak which I would very much recommend! Would book way in advance to avoid disappointment.

Exceptional location and superb food and service. We rented a house nearby and we could walk here in 3 min. The staff are so amazing, and the dishes freshly prepared, you wouldn't know you are eating at a 'beach' restaurant. We enjoyed our first lunch so much we went back for our last meal. And the imager allowed us to store a pice of luggage inside, because we had to clear out by 10 am!All in all this is a great restaurant for a small group or family. Lunch time tapas dishes are big enough to share - order 3 for 2 persons. If you like a romantic meal, ask for one of the booths downstairs. So cosy.

We had breakfast and lunch at this lovely restaurant on two seperate days. This was during COVID, so it was outdoor seating only, which was heated and pleasant. The food for both meals was brilliant. For breakfast I has the Mick Muffin and for lunch the steak sandwich. Particular call out for the chips and roasted garlic that came with the latter. Friendly service too. Will certainly be going back.

Incredible views, delicious food, good value and faultless, friendly service. I booked in advance in a heated pod which unfortunately had to be closed, the restaurant kept me informed and gave me the option to cancel because it would be open to the elements, but we went ahead and I am SO glad we did. I could only book for quite a late slot but on the day they called to say that the reservation before us had cancelled and that we could come earlier if we wanted - which we really appreciated because it meant we got there in time for a beautiful sunset! . I really couldn't fault it and highly recommend. Thank you so much for an amazing dinner.

Came here for lunch with a hard found reservation (due to half-lockdown) to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were greeted cordially and shown to our table by our host. Service was friendly, very welcoming and yet efficient. The food was absolutely divine! We had the lamb steak with feta, pomegranate seeds and baby broad beans, the Aubergine Imam with Almond Creme Fraiche and almonds, salt and pepper squid and last but not least the King Prawns with chilli, lemon grass and lime. Their chefs have a deft hand with spicing, it's subtle but oh so amazing the way the spices blend to create a taste that delights the mouth. As desserts we both had the Affogato, husband had the chocolate version with spiced rum and I had the vanilla with Amaretto. A superb finish to an amazing meal. We drank a bottle of Whale Watcher NZ Sauvignon Blanc. It was not cheap, but it was worth every penny. Can't wait to eat there again, fortunately we only live 7 miles away!

We booked a 2 hour table slot for dinner and arrived on time, ordered promptly and then waited, waited and waited some more for the food. We were okay with that because the food quality has in the past been very good. Our mains arrived eventually and were as expected which we ate and ordered our dessert, still 30 minutes to go on our table. Then we waited and waited and waited some more before being approached my a member of their team and told we had to move to the bar area for out dessert because time was up on our table and the was another group waiting. Now bearing in mind they still had not served the dessert they shifted a table of five to a small windswept bar area with three stools and left us waiting some more before the remainder of our meal turned up. Eating standing up is not what should be expected of a restaurant charging those kind of prices. Not a good experience, I understand Covid requires you to minimise the number of people in the area but if you served food more promptly you would not need to piss customers off by making them feel unwelcome.

A great place with a fabulous view. We were asked to track and trace and sanitise on entry - that was fine. The trouble was there was at least one table at least with 7 adults on the deck area. The waitress was happy to serve them. Whats the point of having track and trace and sanitiser if you are going to flaunt the rules - "6 inside or out"! Poor show by the holidaymakers in the group and the Porthmeor by not drawing their attention to the rules!

Slightly unusual title I know but we were seated in one of their ‘outside’ pods that are built almost to come out of the hillside. There are three solid walls with the front open to the elements. It was a bracing day (we did take up the offer of the wall mounted heater) and we were afforded a spectacular view of the coastline. A high bar had been set. We were greeted enthusiastically and our chilled Albariño arrived soon after followed by sea food inspired tapas which was delicious. The spicy prawns and squid were my favourites. We were on holiday so not sure when we will be back but I’m already looking forward to it.

My husband had the Chorizo Burger, I had Crispy Monkfish and Salt and pepper squid, thinking these would be small portions my husband had to help out! We had olives and bread whilst waiting for our mains along with a bottle of red wine. At £63 it was excellent value. 3 nights later we were back for dinner. We shared Charred Octopus as a starter then we both had the Thai red prawn curry . For me this was one of the best dishes of the whole holiday, superb. The food and service here were the best of any of the restaurants we dined in. Dinner including 2 G&Ts and a bottle of Pinot Grigio came to £98 including service. We had dinner at the restaurant this week and the service and food were excellent. The only negative note was that due to social distancing there was no atmosphere at all so what is normally a part of the evening to be rated, did not exist. We had no tables anywhere near to us and indeed although the bookings are sold out on a regular basis, it felt like it was deserted - terribly sad. However the bouillabaisse was as good as any Ive had in France and the rest of the meal was great. The location is stunning - right on the beach. On a cool October day some of the Tapas cooled off fast so better to start with a little and then order more when the first lot are done (although the table is only for 90 minutes). Do book before you go since you may otherwise be disappointed. The beach cafe is near Tate St Ives and the collection is worth visit but in these Covid days, book first. The walk along the beach and round the headland and on into the harbour area is visually great but overcrowded with trippers and dogs so despite liking the cafe, this may be my last trip to St Ives. Too often restaurants with this sort of view and setting rely too heavily on these ‘assets’ and end up letting the side down on food and service. But not so with Porthmeor Cafe. Firstly, super Covid-secure. On to the good stuff: great wine list, and tapas to die for. We went all seafood and weren’t disappointed, every choice was well thought out and absolutely delicious. The award-winning salt & pepper squid* with ginger dressing was the star of the table. And all at a reasonable price. Nick & Liv were also so hospitable & offered genuinely friendly & no-pressure service, accommodating us even though we had not booked ahead - they stashed in one of the private little beach-view coves replete with heater (late Sept!). We decided to try 8 of the tapas dishes each one was fresh and unique and we would highly reccomend a visit the view is second to none. But wrap up warm it gets chilli with all the doors opening.

Cannot fault anything, staff were brilliant - really friendly, quick and helpful. Food amazing, tried most of the tapas options and all were really nice - the octopus in particular is worth a try. We went for a booth option - which was great from a Covid perspective and kept totally dry even in a storm. Would really recommend!

We really enjoyed our lunch here. It is set up well for covid 19 restrictions with one way entrance and exit. There is also someone to greet you at the door and hand sanitiser. We booked a table inside. All tables inside have sea views as they need to restrict the amount of customers inside. There are several pods outside which are basically booths with heaters. There is also a terrace which would probably be lovely in summer but looked very windy to me at the end of September! We had our baby with us so they had a chicco booster seat ready for us when we arrived. They also laid out plastic cutlery for him which was lovely. The changing table is in the disabled toilet. The food was really good but everyone was dressed really casually. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back.

We eventually managed to book for breakfast and was served by the very friendly and helpful Georgia. She is a credit. The views are great, the food is ok, nothing special and the packed eggs were so hard they had to be returned! The Manager, Lee really needs to improve his customer service as he lets down the whole experience. There are others which are better.

The entire experience was excellent, almost as good as the view from the restaurant across the beach. The Covid precautions are outstanding, temperature taken, sanitiser, spacing, disposable paper menus used once and staff wearing masks. The menu has been reduced but is still interesting and the food we had was terrific with excellent service. Very good indeed.

Came here for breakfast on a very sunny day in st ives. The balcony seating overlooking the beach was beautiful and service very friendly. We were temperature checked on arrival and I had the pancakes with berries and maple syrup which was super filling and delicious! Would highly recommend but make sure you book in advance!

The service in this place was outstanding. Some of the best we had during our stay in & around Carbis Bay/St Ives & that’s saying something since generally people were super friendly. The food tasted great, the view is outstanding. Would 100% go there again.

The Porthmeor Beach Cafe is perfectly situated right in the centre of the beach. It’s ideal for a quick lunch or a romantic meal. I went with a friend, but do plan to bring my partner upon my next visit. The food was delicious and the service was on point.

After giving a poor review in July we revisited last night and the changes were clearly visible. The staff were wearing face coverings at all tines, the menus were disposable and the cleaning standards had been increased. The food and service could not he faulted both being fantastic. We both had the lamb dish which we would highly recommend. We were sitting in a pod with the waves breaking on the shore a perfect evening. Well done to all

We were recommended to eat here after visiting the Tate. The restaurant has a perfect setting poised above Porthmeor Beach and providing with its surf schools and swimmers some lively action while eating. Plain fish seems to be something hard to find in Cornish cafes but at the Porthmeor Cafe we had a delicious delicate piece of hake and a bowl of mussels. Service was top class and the venue was the most stylish we visited in our week in Cornwall.

Breakfast at the beach cafe was delicious, we had poach eggs on toast with smoked salmon which was cooked perfectly! My partner had the pancakes which were American style fluffy pancakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup - very yummy and a good portion size! The cafe was very covid friendly, temp check before we went in and tables all spaced out with staff also wearing masks, we felt very safe. The view in the cafe was just amazing looking out to the beach and sea, you could sit there for a long time just watching people enjoying the beach.

It must be three years or more since we last ate here - too long. Three of us enjoyed a lovely dinner here this week, in a booth overlooking the beach – we’d booked a few weeks ago. Unfortunately a sea mist meant that we didn’t get to enjoy much of the view, but the food definitely made up for it. We shared a variety of tapas plates, all excellent: the octopus and the monkfish especially so. COVID precautions were well managed and the service was good, cheerful and prompt. The location, just by the Tate, is in a lovely, quieter part of St Ives.

Gorgeous setting for this beachside cafe/restaurant best experienced at the end of a warm day as the sun sets over Porthmeor beach: you really could be in California. The starters (‘tapas’) were terrific: salt and pepper squid and crispy monkfish and it would probably have been better to order a few more of these than opt for the main of hake: a confused dish of grilled hake with broccoli, salsa, a salad and four large new potatoes in their jackets.Super pudding though (caramelised banana with salted caramel ice cream and roasted peanuts).Friendly relaxed service and nice selection of wines by the glass. Not overly expensive and probably the best of the 3 St Ives beach cafes.

Had the most lovely food at the Porthmeor café, we were very lucky to be squeezed in by the manager on a warm Saturday evening. I would advise booking in advanced to avoid disappointment! The location is beautiful and views of the beach are breath taking. We ate at 7pm and watched the sunset over the hills and the late evening surfers catch the last of the waves ahead. The menu is reasonably priced and the quality of food and service is exceptional! I had the squid for starters and it was the best I’ve ever had. For the main I had the Thai Prawn red curry which was also one of the best Thai dishes I’ve ever eaten - well done to the kitchen for nailing the flavours.A must if you are in St Ives - 10/10 for food, service and location. Thank you!

The menu is quite small but still plenty to choose from and when it arrived it was delicious. The staff were very accommodating and made our visit special. The views across the beach were beautiful. This place is very well recommended whilst in St Ives , but make sure you book prior to going

Service was good, food was excellent. Special thanks to Nick for fitting us in. We both chose fish dishes which were cooked to perfection but the star of the show for me was the salt and pepper squid tapas to start. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful breakfast view but fairly average food. Service was efficient and organised, temperature taken before entering and clear guidelines with the one way system. We hadn’t booked so felt lucky to get a table. We both had the build your own breakfast which was expensive for what it was - a relatively average fry up, but you’re paying for the view rather than the food and that’s what we’ll be remembering rather than the £13 fry up!

Cove Restaurant & Barlocation-iconMaenporth BeachTapas

We booked this restaurant for a recent visit to Cornwall, on the basis of its great reviews, Michelin rating etc, and good sea views etc. Unfortunately only the views lived up to the hype... The restaurant itself was ok, fairly nicely done out and good layout. The views were fantastic looking out onto the bay!The staff tried their best, but it was not the level of service you would expect from a Michelin restaurant... we were served by about 4 different people during our meal, when you would really expect to have a more personable experience and looked after by one of the waiting staff throughout your meal. We were really rushed throughout, even though the restaurant was very quiet. We had received our starters, drinks, mains, and the bill within an hour of being there! This did ruin the experience a lot for us, as you tend to try and enjoy the occasion when dining at a 'nicer' restaurant...On top of this, the food itself I cannot imagine was freshly prepared, only due to the fact the starter arrived 3 minutes after ordering, and the main 10 minutes after that... We had the Monkfish and the Cod, and it was definitely nothing to shout about. The prices were what you would expect for a fine dining experience with Michelin star food, however this was not what was served here, so the value was awful! The main courses are around £25, but this does not include any sides, i.e. chips/potatoes, vegetables etc. For 2 people, we paid for 2 drinks, starters and mains £120... for a meal and service I would have felt more expecting to pay around £60 for.The whole vibe was more of a cheap beach bar vibe, and definitely not a fine dining or Michelin star restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all for quality food, and an enjoyable dinner, but possibly somewhere to visit for a drink or light snack to take a break from the beach if you are nearby.
