Porter & Rye in Glasgow City

Visited for 30th birthday meal for my son. Absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. Service from staff was excellent and I really appreciated they immediately acknowledged his birthday. The food was just delicious and hard to pick a stand out it was all so good. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the pigeon, beef tartare and scallops were so tasty. All the sides were fresh and flavoursome. I think the horse radish and honey roast potatoes stood out along with the heritage carrots. The desserts were beautifully presented and finished off the meal perfectly. Really good value for a special meal. We all really enjoyed our evening and will definitely return to try other dishes on the menu. Thanks to all the staff for making a special occasion go so smoothly.

Myself and my mother were visiting Glasgow for a concert and also celebrating her birthday. From start to finish our visit was first class. We opted for the sharing plates and, thanks to the waitresses advice, we had just enough food and an amazing selection. Each dish was superb, we couldn’t agree on a favourite. The wine complimented the plates perfectly. We then decided to treat ourselves to some cocktails. Wow, what can I say, among the best I have had! The restaurant setting is fabulous, and the staff were fabulous throughout too. I just wish we lived closer - I’ll definitely be back the next time we are in Glasgow!

From a steak lover. This meal was brilliant. The steak (fillet) was cooked med rare to Perfection and was like candy floss. It was so beautiful. Sides were so tasty and cocktails were punchy! Staff were so so pleasant and spent above and beyond. Keep up the good work. Cant recommend enough.

I know it's a high bar but I think Porter and Rye is the best steak restaurant in Glasgow. We have been a few times now for various celebrations and it has never disappointed. The quality of the food is perfection. The steaks are always cooked just right and are delicious. It is an expensive meal out but when the standard is so high we don't really mind. Lastly, shout out for the service which is always exceptionally good.

We recently visited to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we had a wonderful experience. Linda gave us exceptional service throughout our meal. For starters we had the tartare and carpaccio. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. For main course we had the chateaubriand which was perfectly cooked. The prices are exactly what you would expect to pay at a restaurant of this quality. Highly, highly recommend. An outstanding restaurant.

My partner and I had the Meat-Up Wednesdays porterhouse steak and neither of us could find the correct superlative it was that good. This was the best Steak I’ve ever had. Locally sourced meat and cooked to perfection. The quality of the sides and the wine was also incredible. Can wholeheartedly recommend the Mac & Cheese. Everything was not too rich and beautifully balanced. The whole meal was created around the beef. Whoever drew up this Menu Is a genius in my opinion. The service was perfect. They were attentive without being overbearing, and the restaurant itself was very nicely appointed with great atmosphere. Genuinely could not fault any part of our Meal. Get a table booked beforehand as I can imagine it gets really busy.

The steak was out of this world, succulent, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The service was excellent and the whole experience was top drawer .

We had a birthday family dinner at Porter and Rye. The service was fab and the food was terrific we chose from the aged steak menu and it was very good. We skipped starters (small plates) but had dessert which was really special. There is a nice wine selection to compliment your food. Rachel looked after us all night and was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone who fancies a nice steak and bit break the bank to do so. This is the place for you. Booking is advisable as it is a small place.

Three of us visited and all of us enjoyed what we chose. We had 5 small plates, a beautiful sirloin & bearnaise, and a bourbon beef sandwich. We shared a bone marrow Mac & cheese which we were fighting over as it was so good. Had a wee bit of room for desserts so chose the Loaded Revolver and the Alaska, both lovely. Overall, everything we had was delicious. Our server was lovely and when she found out it was our daughters birthday she brought 3 complimentary glasses of Prosecco and at the end of our meal, a plate with Happy Birthday written on it with 3 very tasty chocolates. First time I booked a table was March 2020 and we all know how that worked out 😥 First actual time I had the pleasure of visiting Porter & Rye was in August 2021 and I have been a frequent guest ever since 😂 (even my bank app thinks I have subscribed to premium steak delivery). Anyway, after trying many different streak houses in Glasgow (which are all spectacular btw) nothing hits home quite like Porter & Rye. I used to live around the corner and it was my favourite restaurant of all time, now I stay 60 miles away and it’s unfortunately still my favourite restaurant 😂 Book P&R today and join the fan club of Baked Alaska flavour changes and definitely order a cocktail/mocktail when you’re there (especially when Dan is there but they are superb all the time). Not sponsored and I still think the cow is creepy but it’s actually comforting now 😂

Every bite of food was so good. Ask the staff which cut to try, they won't steer you wrong. They were very attentive and accommodating. Very cool atmos except for the large painting in the center. Definitely ask about it, though.

I had one of the best lunches that I ever had in Porter & Rye! I went with a friend and we were not very hungry, so we had 5 small plates amongst ourselves plus coffee and petit fours. Every single small plate tasted amazing, the meats were very high quality and they were perfectly cooked. The best were the venison and the pork belly. It was extremely good value as well. Our waitress was really attentive and I cannot wait to come back and try other dishes! Thank you for the wonderful experience!

This was a really quality steak restaurant in Finnieston that I would highly recommend. We got vouchers as a gift and it was a total pleasure. Staff were lovely, friendly and informative. The steak was cooked the way I liked and the Ju sauce was lovely with it. The truffle and Parmesan fries were delicious and so was the cauliflower cheese side. My partner had the steak burger and loved it. We would have had a dessert but we were too full. We got the train out from Glasgow to exhibition centre and walked the five mins to it. Lovely experience.

My partner and I visited Porter & Rye on a Wednesday for our second Valentine's Day; we visited other steak restaurants previously but decided to try out Porter & Rye despite the slightly higher costs. We were seated on the ground floor table, with a view into the kitchen and their meat cabinet. The service was very friendly and quick as can be. The food was nothing short of spectacular; probably the best steakhouse I'd ever eaten at. I'm a person who swears by a medium rare steak with bare minimum seasoning, but Porter & Rye's sauces took it to a different level. There are a variety of starters, or small plates, to choose from. Beef, pork belly, veggie, venison, pigeon; choose your choice of protein, they'll serve it to you in its tastiest form. We did not get to choose the cut of steak, as we went on the meat-up Wednesday deal, however there was absolutely no complaint on the steak. The sauces were mind-blowing; we ordered the Chimichurri, Macallan & peppercorn sauce, Béarnaise sauce, and Bone marrow & black truffle butter. The most surprising part of this experience is that I did not expect the butter to be any special but I was proven wrong. I'm no wine expert, but whatever red wine we were served, we managed a full bottle of it. Lastly, my partner wanted to end the dinner with a Scottish Coffee; this was not as abhorrent as I thought it would be but it almost wiped me out. I will definitely revisit Porter & Rye in the future; they are a premium restaurant that serves premium quality food at a premium price (for a damn good reason). If you are a fan of steak nights, I highly recommend visiting on one of their special deal days to get the best value. Thanks to Porter & Rye, I cannot buy Aldi steaks and cook them myself anymore as I know I'll just be disappointed in myself.

Food is outstanding, worth the high price tag, the starter/small plates, some of the best venison I've ever had, rabbit good too. Cote de boeuf was cooked to perfection, and sides were actually a decent portion compared to some places where you get a coffee mug of fries. Bone marrow topper was ridiculously good. Service was a bit rushed to start with as 3 servers seemed to overlap doing seating/water/drinks, but settled once one person took the table, who was great. At first I was pleased to sit in the window, but the window table downstairs is right beside the maitre'd/menu stand, so got inadvertently bumped into about 5 times. We booked well in advance for an occasion, and kinda felt like we got the kitchen door table.

The steak was probably one of the best I have ever had. So tender it almost fell apart in my mouth, but with great flavour. The new waitress was really lovely, providing an attentive service without it being intrusive. Can't fault the place, but be advised that the side dish portions are quite generous so sharing should be considered. Most things are gluten free if you require that choice. The table beside us bought us drinks and joined us in the pub for a night cap. There was one other table close by. Excellent meal on hogmany Porter and Rye never disappoints! The menu is well executed, the servers are lovely and attentive , the atmosphere is relaxed but lively at the same time and it really is one meal we look forward to every Hogmanay.

Starters were outstanding, though I feel a stake should be chargrilled, if it was it didn't really have that smokiness, that's just a preference. But again those starters were out of this world.
