Popadoms in Newport

Came down from Scotland for the rugby and had a booking here wasn’t disappointed lovely food excellent service from the starters to the main I had a madras was lovely and the right amount of spice if we ever venture down to Newport again will definitely be back

Onion bhajis - ordered one portion but got 4 pieces (assuming they gave extra). They were OK and we managed to finish most of them because of the mint sauce. My advice here would be to flatten them a little so the inside cooks (it'll probably cook faster, too). However, we did find them a little too greasy and lacking flavour. Nans - edges were a bit thick, but the spread of the filling throughout wasn't bad. Again, just lacking flavour. Keema needed more spice, and peshwari needed a little more sweetness. Dansak - this was actually really bad. It was more a curry with lentils thrown in. Not the curry it's meant to be, i.e. hot, sweet, and sour. The chicken tikka, however, seemed fresh and soft. Big let down and once again, just lacking flavour. Overall; we spent a decent amount expecting better but just didn't get close to the mark. Can't say if I'd order again (I have tried the wraps in the past and they were nice) or even recommend to be honest. Note: they did throw in a container of pilau rice, but we were too full to even open it. Appreciate the gesture.

Very disappointing spent over £40 for the meal to arrive with things missing and with items I didn’t order, a 0 is what is needed as meat was hard and curry was bland also found a very sharp BONE which I’m glad I didn’t give to my mother 🤬🤬 when I called about the missing food Evan tho I was talking to the same man I placed the order with he really didn’t care very negative and impolite and rude will never order from here again epic fail on customer service.

Good food, clean, friendly, reasonably priced and super helpful staff Owner Waz is a diamond along with kamal the head waiter, Sham, Sabba. Definately worth trying. Dont think you will be dissapointed.

Very poor main courses. Not as described. Madras strength curries were Korma strength and disappointingly bland. Very expensive at £20 ish for most curries. King prawn puri was ok

Excellent food. Wonderful service. Great wine. We were very impressed. I had a prawn balti, my partner a king prawn dopiaza and both dishes were fabulous.

First visit will defo return . Food amazing staff knowledgeable and friendly you will not be disappointed. One very small downside do not serve alcohol but will get it from downstairs bar don’t let that put you off the food is amazing 😜

Price is outrageous. Food is not even close to Indian. Frozen and very old meat. Too much color additives and disappointing.

Awesome evening staff are friendly and attentive. As a party of 8 we all got our food at the same time, drinks never stopped.great place for a friends or family meal and couples. Now the food wow wow best Keema Nan ever, all curries cooked to perfection , meat and vegetables perfect. We will return for our Christmas party ☺️

Amazing food. Had apna style chicken jalfrezi which was well hot! Would recommend 100%. Customer service was excellent with some amazing humour.

We walked in and asked for a table for 5 and 2x of the waiters were really rude to us for some reason. I’ve eaten here before and their Vindaloo isn’t real Vindaloo. We go to Taste of Asia or New Lahore for our ruby now.

Tried the new "Indian pizza" the other day and it was stunning! Well worth it 😍

Down side is going up the stairs but the reward is the wonderful food

10 of us went, restaurant is recently refurbished, very smart and comfortable environment. The staff were delightful and the service to the group of 10 of us was efficient. Every single dish was delicious, prepared and presented to a high standard. Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

The worst Indian food ever. Terribly sweet, even the naan. Prices were outrageous. .80 per poppadom and chutney tray was so sweet tasted more like a dessert. Garlic fried rice so bland it tasted like plain rice. Overall extremely disappointed.

Decent place with tasty Indian food. Special mention to Bangladeshi guy who is a student and working their in the evening helps us a lot with the menu. His smile and courtesy add as a toppings to our dinner.

It's a Saturday night, so the delivery time is to be expected, less so the cold food and the below... I rang the restaurant and they couldn't be any less interested, even when speaking to the manager. Getting an apology was like trying to get blood from a stone. We waited a further 30-minutes for the missing items to be delivered (2 hours total waiting time). I ordered a vegetarian pasanda (don't judge me!), this arrived on delivery 1 ....following delivery 2 (the missing items) I noticed they added chicken at no extra charge which is lovely but I'm actually a vegetarian! Apparently, the person who took the order "misunderstood", despite a full conversation on the vegetarian pasanda not being on the menu but they could make it ...now trying to make excuses, lie, and shift the blame onto me. I wouldn't order from them again. It seems they are taking their high ratings for granted to guarantee orders yet part-delivering a sub-standard service. They returned £25 for my meal items, as priced on the menu. The delivery guy was lovely on all 3 ocassions; he wouldn't even accept my tip given our poor experience. He was very polite, friendly, and apologetic. The food was OK, despite being microwaved, but the overall experience a fail! Things go wrong and items can be missed, it's human error, but the customer service around this is key, and that was non-existent! 👎

We ordered a take away from them. We were told it would be roughly an hour for delivery and it was an hour and a half. It would’ve been fine if they had called us to say it was running late and if our order was complete on delivery. When we rang to say there were several items missing from our order, we were told “I hat do you want me to do about it?”. Not the response you’d expect from such a highly rated restaurant on here, nor when we’ve paid over £60 for an incomplete order. Very disappointed.

I ordered two separate meals both over 40 pounds over Christmas probably the worst food I’ve tried tasted dirty delivered two hours late food cold and missing a curry witch was for my mother and she didn’t eat so my father didn’t eat his neither waste of money did manage to get money back off bank they didn’t care when I phoned them told me they would call me back and didn’t these people need to close down how they got 4star must write them him self The taste of the curry’s as well dirty wouldn’t give to a homeless guy Order from somewhere else trust me

I do a lot of food reviews and my opinions are held in high regard, as a well travelled man and a extremely culturally experienced man who as a half Indian, half Russian wife I understand this cuisine very well, as my childs diet consists of 50% of this type of food and mine about 20% due to my hobby which requires and structured diet plan. I am also a foodie and I have travelled a lot which means I have had the pleasure of eating in a lot of different high quality restaurants and experiencing the best of the best as well as my Indian / Asian family and friends home cooked foods also and I don't eat budget food at all, its not my style. My honest review out of 10 for this restaurant, with 10 being top quality, 5 being basic average and with 0 being terrible, with kindness would be approximately 4.5 out of 10. My chicken biryani was not spiced at all it was just like very plain flavoured yellow rice with chicken in there, akin to bodybuilding diet food dry and bland, which is something I am very used to, so when I eat out I expect my taste buds to be blown away and this was far from that, my bhuna sauce was decent but the vegetables in it was undercooked and to crunchy not soft and delicate and simmered properly but the overall flavour of the bhuna sauce was very decent, the Bombay potatoes had no zing or spice to them and was overly starchy and undercooked and my keema nann was only delicious but where it actually had meat which was about 35% of the nann. I was told that the meal would take 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes to be delivered which is acceptable if its being prepared and cooked properly with dispatching and delivery times however it got here after 45 minutes so I at least thought the meal would be hot, however it was luke warm at best bordering on the cold, another massive disappointment as I only live 4 minutes away by foot and about the same by vehicle as you can not drive through the city centre. The one plus side which I have to give is the servings was all generous and there was plenty of chicken in the biryani but apart from that and a decent taste on a slightly uncooked bhuna sauce and a nice but not fairly pack keema nann bread it was not that special at all. People say the staff were nice and friendly and while that may'be the case the review is about the quality of the food as your paying your hard earned money for it, you expect the staff to be friendly thats just a given and nothing to have to feel grateful about. I won't buy again from here for a very long time as this was under par.

Just had takeaway absolutely stunning, can't recommend enough

Had the best slow cooked Lamb Shanks I have ever eaten. The customer service was fantastic and very generous portions. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I have eaten in this restaurant many times and (had takeaways too) just recently to celebrate my Sons' 34th birthday and we were not let down by either the service or food. The food is always good and I have never been disappointed with the taste or size of portions. The one thing that stands out repeatedly is the first-class service from the friendly and informative staff. They are not only helpful but, will also provide guidance on meals and drinks. The ambience is excellent and very comfortable. I cannot say enough about Popadoms and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

An authentic Asia experience. Very delicious meal. Lovely thick Bhuna sauce, Keema Nann was soft and hot! Will return for another sit down, just a shame it’s a bit too far for delivery or collection.

Best Indian takeaway around, wouldn’t go any where else, fast, efficient, very friendly and will do what they can for there customers! A variety menu and nothing is to hard for them to change or cook for you! Amazing people highly recommended!

Absolutely cannot fault this place. The staff go above and beyond whether you have it delivered or pick it up. Every time we pick it up they are absolutely amazing with my little boy and are very quick and prompt. The food is second to none, full of flavour and totally delicious! Popadoms is my go to Indian restaurant and I am never disappointed. Delivery sometimes can be late but I always expect that on a Saturday and they are very helpful over the phone. 110% recommended.

Decent Curry house Good hygiene and décor.

We came to newport for a few days to see family. We wanted an Indian and we found this little gem while walking through newport Town it definitely did not disappointment. The staff the decor the food was all amazing. Thank-you very much Mr popadoms

Ordered a meal at 18.41 and it didn't arrive until 20.53. When ordering on their website it doesn't give an estimated time. If I knew it would take 2 hours I wouldn't have ordered it. I rang at 8.15 asking how long and was told another half hour which I was shocked by. The man on the phone was very stern stating they have over 200 orders and his words "its new years eve" which obviously I knew that. There was no need for that at all. I wont be ordering from them again which is a shame as I've been going there for years but I won't be spoken to like that. Happy New year.

Nothing special really, vindaloo was sauce and 4x chunks of chicken, saag paneer had a similar famine of paneer, the kofte in the mixed grill was delicious but hollow in the middle. Overall small meat portions, good flavours. I was still hungry, whereas my previous locals in Somerset would stuff me. Guess that's what I get for listening to a drunk recommendation on a weekend!

Recently booked a table for 5 at Popadoms in Newport. The staff in there made everything a breeze from the start - including organising free car parking for me and my team. We all had starters, main and even desserts. Everything was cooked to perfection...

I ordered chapati and other food via Deliveroo. Since they didn't have chef to make dough for proper chapati, they bought the chapati from cash and carry shop, toasted it and delivered to us. Real shame. When i spoke to the restaurant the person said they are allowed to sell like that, they don't charge the price of the real chapati made by the chef... The staff was not even apologised... I'm never buying again..

Visited with family from Manchester and Bradford. The food was on par with the best restaurants from our hometowns. Pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed. The chicken karahi was my favourite. The staff were attentive and friendly too. Well done!

I visited the restaurant on 31st of July. I noticed none of the staff were wearing their face masks properly. One had it over his chin another just over his mouth. One didn't have a mask on at all and they were all leaning over...
