Poor Boys in Kingston upon Thames

The food is superb and worth the long wait as queues are often long. Take out is also excellent but what should be a 5* review turns into 4* as the delivery is shocking. Stone cold and took over 1.5 hours (and the order was wrong).

Such a lovely Evening! Every single member of the staff were lovely… which is very rare ! Food was fantastic and atmosphere. Our waiter Isaac was so lovely and helpful as we had no clue where to start with what to get !! Recommend and is worth the wait .

The front of house guy is amazing! So professional and so welcoming- he deserves a raise as he really does make this place! Food is always excellent. Just need a bigger venue so that we don’t need to queue- definitely a chain waiting to happen and much needed too. Thank you Poor Boys

Ive eaten at the restaurant and service was fine but it wasnt during peak times. The delivery service on the other hand is poor. You have to use their online service but you are waiting ages for confirmation and there is no notice of this. So whilst your waiting for confirmation you are wondering whether you should have ordered somewhere else. You ring to check your order has gone through but no one picks up and when you do pick up after ringing maybe 8 times, you are told they are busy and they dont have anyone maning the phones. I get you have to offer good customer service in the restaurant but you have to manage the phones for your delivery service. When the delivery arrived, whilst unboxing i noticed i am missing an item. Back on the phone again and unable to get hold of someone. It is the next day and I am still trying to get through whilst writing this review.

Very tasty southern fried chicken.

The food is really unhealthy and really poor quality. The place is over hyped providing over priced junk food. The food looks amazing, however, the taste is dreadful The Mac and cheese is the worst I've eaten. I can't believe there was any cheese in it! Prefer any other fast food compared to this complete Overrated junk food Service and atmosphere are excellent though

Great atmosphere, the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. We visited after a friend’s recommendation and we were not disappointed. The Southern Chicken was to die for and portions sizes more than enough. Great value for money. The staff were super helpful and accommodating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or return for another visit.

Very nice food, a bit on the salty side but kind of expected with the kind of food. Pretty decent portion, and the soft shell crab, shrimps, beef burnt ends and shakes are definitely the highlights. Expect queues at peak hours but worth the wait. Really surprised this is the only restaurant in the whole UK.

Food is always so great, they have a great way of making simple things taste really good! I would appreciate a more personalised style of service but with the quick table turnovers that they have it must be really difficult! Not a criticism, just a side note. Been coming here for a while and will continue to do so!

I went during the week early afternoon and was blown away by the service and the food. All staff were approachable and very attentive. I placed my order with the waiter and asked if there was a chance to try 3 shrimp on the side. He mentioned it would be need to be a side or a portion as I ordered chips and a po boy I thought there was no need. Food came and so did the three shrimp. He went out of his way to bring them . Quality of food was incredible and the service another level. After the bill was paid I asked to speak to the manager to provide my feedback and he mentioned he was the manager. Great leadership and showed his team what great service. Should of asked for his name but looking at the receipt it mentioned Charlie. Thanks again for a great meal and incredible service.

Service by Callum was brilliant, especially as he just started. The food was cooked to perfection and the sauces were delicious. We ordered the meat platter, Cajun shrimp and Po bun with southern chicken. To be honest we ordered too much for two people but the menu was tempting. The boxes the food is served in means it’s easy to takeaway! Luckily we didn’t have to wait for a table on a Friday at 5pm. Downside: Upstairs seating was a little cramped and mains don’t come with a side.

One of my fav places! This place never fails to satisfy. Food is always 10/10, buzzing with people, friendly helpful staff. Great portions, always leave with a takeaway because it’s that filling. Their Mac and cheese is to die for! No such thing as too much sauce at this place. Simply amazing! Note: there’s always a queue on the weekends, so be prepared to queue but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Top food, top people, top vibes.

The staff were friendly and easy going and made suggestions when ordering which was helpful, The food was great, except was the sliced brisket which I think could have been softer and seasoned more. I would recommend on getting the Meat sharer as it would feed 4 people with ease.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in London. The key is to arrive early to avoid a waiting queue. The dishes are very well-prepared, with generous portions and great flavor. If I could, I would have the mac n cheese every day

Just been, cold cheese sauce. Salty short ribs. Po boy fried chickens disgusting (got it with the sauce on the side.) only thing that was good was the jalapeño poppers and the prawns. Really disappointed and not worth the money we paid bill came to £162 for 3 people split 3 ways and not worth it foods been bagged up to go home as we didn’t want to bin it.

The Buttermilk coating is divine on the pickles, chicken, and cauliflower. The portions are big so we left with a doggy bag.

Be prepared to queue but the wait is more than worth it. Oh, and come hungry! Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The restaurant hit the "American Pop" angle right on the head with a brilliant southern twist. Great spot (in Kingston, London) for the type of vibe it brings. Would definitely go again.

My god the food in this place is bomb. Any time I’m having a rubbish day, the Poor Boys Mac and cheese fixes all of my problems.

It is 2024 and they are still serving every meal in single use containers with single use cutlery. Clearly no regard for the environment.

Poor boys have nailed it! Yes you have to queue but it’s so worth it. The food is banging, there wasn’t one thing we didn’t like 🔥 All the staff were awesome as well, super friendly, nothing was too much of an ask and helped us with the menu etc being first timers. 8.5/10

I’ve dined here twice so far and it doesn’t disappoint! The line was very long when we first arrived but that didn’t put us off and we waited for about 15 mins until we were seated. The service is always 10/10! Our Server Gia was super friendly and had a smile on her face always. The manager Charlie was amazing as he constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything. The food is always delicious and I always end up ordering more than I can finish. Would recommend this place to everyone and anyone, it lives up to the hype!

This place is lively, busy, the staff are very helpful and friendly, I have been here twice now and it doesn’t disappoint. The food is really good , if you’re hungry it’s great the portions are very big, we ordered far too much the first time( our doggy box could have fed family of four!) I can recommend Poor boys for every occasion. Oh cocktails are good too .

Good comfort food to cure a hangover or January blues. Great service from Matilda, friendly and attentive. Bit cramped seating, should have less tables but money talks. Would recommend the jalapeno bites.

I went yesterday with my friends and it was so incredible. I was greeted by the excellent staff and served by the lovelist lady sadly didnt get her name but she has short brown hair and I belive the supervisor, again thank you for the lovely evening. We will be back :)

Busy, so glad we arrived before opening. Friendly staff, large portions, tasty food, nice decor. Staff went the extra mile to make the birthday boys day. Great they encourage you to take left overs home. Definitely recommend.

Waited in queue for around 10mins max considering it was very busy inside. Seated by a window with the view of the river, fantastic service with upbeat music. Total came to around £45+ which was abit surprising as we only had two burgers, but food was definitely delicious and very filling which you could takeaway.

Unfortunately the food is not for me, it’s so oily and heavy that I couldn’t finish them in the end…… the portion is big but overall it’s overpriced. Nice vibe inside but it feels cold. Service was friendly.

Instagram food - looks great, tasted less than mediocre. 10/10 to their social marketing team. Not sure why all meals and drinks are served in disposable cardboard and plastic cups at a sit down restaurant. Did not live up to the standard experienced at Wingfest. Wings were overly sweet. Has high fructose corn syrup infiltrated the UK? Had a funny tummy later in the day. Would not recommend unless you want to keep up with your socials.

Waited for a table for a really short time, but between the service and the food, it was well worth it. Our hosts, Gia and Charlie, were great, very patient and helpful. They made my birthday at Poor Boys a better experience

The shrimp mac n cheese was so good!!! Felt like a warm hug.. that’s the best way to explain it. 10/10. And service was so quick despite waiting in queue for about 10-15 minutes.

Poor boys is such a hit and for good reason. The food makes u say mmm without meaning to ! So good. The gentleman on the door was very accommodating and good with the queue. Maria was our server and was so lovely and very helpful.

What can I say- it's just great!

Simply outstanding!!! Drove 1.5 hours to try Poor Boys as we'd seen it all over the gram and heard great things, and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! There was a bit of a queue outside, but that's always a good sign, and we really didn't wait long, 15 mins tops. At least by the time we'd got a table, we'd already pretty much decided what we were going to order. We had Arla as a waitress, and she was superb. She made some VERY good recommendations and was very tentative. Food wise, honestly, I can not fault anything! The portion sizes are huge, and the flavours are fantastic, from the seasonings to the sauces. We had the Chicken Wings, jalapeño poppers, onions rings, mac n cheese balls, fried pickles, brisket burnt end fries, and the southern chicken po'boy. Needless to say, it was way too much food for two people, but we made a very good dent, and they're more than happy for you to box up the leftovers. Would most definitely make the journey again! Until next time! P.S. Give the Peanut Butter Whisky spiked frozen coke a try. You can thank me later!

Very disappointed. Drove all the way from north London, to eat here. An outside queue of over an hour, fryers down, and they couldn't seat anyone else. They don't allow reservations so you just have to show up and hope for the best. After all that, I had to order online and sit outside waiting 45 mins to collect, and they didn't even have any po boys, which is what I came for, because they ran out of bread. Food is tasty enough, and the staff were very sweet and helpful but the establishment needs to get it's sh1t together

Absolutely amazing food. I had the Mac n cheese with chicken and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. The hot sauce was amazing combination too. Would recommend if you want something while shopping and just want something quick and filling.

Food was great if this is your sort of thing, For me not somewhere I would visit often as my preference is for a healthier choice. Service and staff were all excellent. My biggest issue , and the reason I would not return is the fact that all food and beverages are served in throw away boxes, cartons and what looks like single use plastic. I cannot be absolutely sure but I doubt that any of it is recyclable and I found the amount of waste appalling, Call me old fashioned but I’d much rather eat from a plate and drink from a glass, more importantly we need to reduce the use of plastic, I can only imagine the amount of plastic waste from this very busy restaurant. Remove the plastic please!

Incredible food, you definitely won’t go hungry! Poor Boys don’t offer a table booking service as it’s not a massive space, however queuing for service is worth the wait. We arrived early for this around 5:30pm and waited around 20mins. Must try are the beef brisket donuts. We tried the Po Boy sandwich with southern friend chicken and shrimp. Everything was fantastic. Portions are definitely on the generous side, but with no skimp on quality. Really friendly and attentive staff too.

Loved it. We came from Suffolk after seeing poor boys stand at wing fest. The wait outside was well worth it because the food was amazing and love the cocktails. Died, went to heaven and got reincarnated as a beef brisket donut.

This place is great! Huge delicious portions , good vibes and fast service. Their lil cocktails are quite nice. I will go back until I have tried all items on their menu. For now I can tell the poor boy bun with fried shrimps was amazing, the shrimps were huge. The beef brisket donuts are something from another world. Must try ! Highly recommend

First time going and wasn't disappointed, So much food portion sizes were amazing, Matilda our waitress was so helpful and supplied us with lids and bags for us to take our food home. Will definitely make a return visit😄

We have not been to Poor Boys for some time, last time was in their early days when they first opened. I saw their great reviews on youtube and saw Matt from FRC was a big fan. We were not disapointed and glad to see they have got even better and tastier. They staff as usual were incredibly friendly and do need a special mention. I chose the Burnt ends , Fried Shrimp with Philly fries, my wife chose a Chicken tender skinny boy and fries. The Burnt ends were some of the best i have ever had, the shrimp were spicy, big and plump, my wife loved her Chicken tenders as well. The only downside is that now Poor Boys is on the Culinary map it gets very busy, we had to queue for ages. Saying that its good to see a local business doing so well so i would never criticise them for that. So be warned but dont worry as its worth the wait.

The staff were really accommodating with me and went beyond they have to make sure we were happy. The food has always been good but the service was really what made my experience great.

We had an absolutely amazing meal - we arrived at 1pm and had to queue for about 15 minutes but the food was well worth the wait! The food was incredible and the portions huge - would highly recommend the Mac Boy! Also thoroughly enjoyed the festive shake with salted caramel and baileys. This review is the one you need: 1. The queue was 1hr 10 mins on a Saturday at 7pm, not bad in my eyes for a hyped restaurant. It was -2 outside when we queued up so glad I was wearing a fat coat. The queue runs along the river so it will get chilly so make sure you're warm if visiting in the winter. When we got to the front, the manager moved us under the tables with the heated lamps which was lovely. The food was mostly worth the wait. All in all, not too bad. I was expecting way worse. 6/10 2. The food was mainly good. My highlight was the beef brisket doughnuts...paired with the sauce and the pickles.. omg delicious. The buttermilk prawns were also banging. We had *all* the snacks. The chicken skin was not worth it...cold and dry. Mac and cheese balls were not pulling and dry from the inside. The best snack was the jalapeño popper and calamri. We got the po boy with the buttermilk chicken and I think the chicken was really dry and not tasty. I wish we got the grilled chicken po boy as with all the fried snacks, it all started to taste the same after a while, so if you go I'd recommend if you're getting the snacks, get the grilled chicken/prawn option for your "BYO Poor Boy". I'd give the food on its own an 8/10. It was mainly hit, but the items that were misses, were real misses. 3. The restaurant was coooooold inside. Make sure you dress warm if you're visiting in the winter. I had to sit with my coat over my legs as a blanket! The seats are super uncomfortable and the bathrooms were not the cleanest. 1/10 4. Service is fast and the server we had was very attentive. No fault whatsoever with that! She even swapped over some sauces for us as we had so many of the same sauces! The only thing about the service was that the server didn't ask us about our meal at the end, but that is being really nit-picking. 10/10

Delicious food, had so much that we had enough leftovers to fill two small takeaway boxes. Great value for money, only annoying thing is there was a 45 minute queue outside. Well worth the wait though it really didn't disappoint!

As long as you ignore cocktails , don’t try them ( seriously ) all good .. delicious food , great concept , friendly staff but cocktails … you could get served whiskey sour as a mix of southern comfort in Fanta can ( mixed with Fanta ) , yeah no joke . and could be expensive than proper whiskey sour ..

Tough call but only 4 stars. A bit overpriced since nothing comes with sides. A huge queue (1hr at 5pm) but luckily if you decide to brave the cold and sit outside with heaters like we did you get seated/served in 30 instead. The £15 shrimp po boy was huge and tasty. The £20 beef rib sadly was a bit fatty and not that well spiced. Also some strange reason they pair it with a ‘philly cheese’ that’s sorta a cheese whiz - ok for a cheesesteak sub but not beef rib!! Asiah the waiter/host was cool and great service from him and Charlie! Suggested they get some Old Bay for all that great seafood! I know this is Kingston etc but really for those prices should come with some fries or a side. No desserts which is strange - perfect place for pecan pie, key lime pie or at least cheesecake.

The service in this place was absolutely wonderful, Isaias was extremely helpful and well attentive he was able to recommend very tasteful food as well as giving the best service no only that the place was packed he was able to control the crowd and still managed to be one of the best servers I have come across. The food was absolutely to taste the pictures don't lie. Will definitely recommend any one to come for a full American food experience.

Service was fast and friendly. The array of snacks/sides that we ordered were all great, with my particular favorite being the bbq beef brisket donut. I’d recommend visiting outside of peak hours like we did, as you’ll avoid the inevitable queue.

Food wasn't amazing. Feel like its only really popular due to tiktok. Service was okay ish. Food took ages to come and we wasn't given any cutlery even though we asked more then once. They also ran out of beef and pork. So was only shrimp and chicken on the menu. Not worth the time or money

Had an amazing dinner at Poor Boys in Kingston. Our waiter Zain was one of the nicest servers I’ve ever had. He was professional, courteous, and had the best recommendations for food! I would go back just to have him serve me again. The food was INCREDIBLE! We had the Dirty Boy & the Mac Boy. Some serious New Orleans street food! Can’t wait to visit again. Thanks Zain!

Due to this restaurant becoming a "viral" sensation the queue, around the clock, is daunting. Envision a popular theme park roller coaster queue during school holidays and you’re catching my drift. You will likely shrivel up & die of hunger and thirst before you ever get to taste that brisket doughnut thing. They need a bigger restaurant, or more restaurants because that queue is death.

Collosal amount of food however the overwhelming taste of dirty oil was immense. I have been sick numerous times now (within 24 hours) due to the unsanitary food. I completely understand this tiny restaurant was overwhel KOmed with a large crowd all queuing to get in and eat but food hygiene guys? Wonderful waiting staff, very attentive but the food was diabolical. Repeated o me all night (dirty oli) with vomiting dirty oil the next day. Never again

I came here because it was recommended by a few bloggers. If you want to be seated early, come in good time because there will be a queue. I had chicken wings, and my family member had a mac and cheese PO with crab. The flavours were ok but nothing to get excited about. The mac and cheese tasted very processed. The fried gherkins were very soggy. If you like deep-fried american style food go here. I won't be returning as the food was very processed and lacked a personal touch.

Go here on an empty stomach The sides (arancini, jalapeno poppers, mac & cheese balls, popcorn chicken) were amazing but I strongly do not recommend the Meat Sharer though. The chicken was mostly just batter bits and tasted like low quality KFC

Finally an American place that isn't over hyped, and lived up to it's reputation. We shared a fried chicken Poorboy, boo fries, fried pickles, brisket doughnuts and chicken crackling.. The brisket doughnuts are just solid brisket, no filler.. and were easily our fave, followed by the cheesy gravy covered boo fries. The fried chicken is juicy, and the spicy sauces are actually spicy. Portions are big, so you can easily share stuff to try more of the menu. We could've done without the chicken cracklins.. they were crispy and all.. but compared to the big flavours we got from everything else.. they were just a bit uninspired. Service was quick and non-intrusive. Our waitress Amy was lovely and all her suggestions were on point! Vibes were good, and the playlist was fun. It's not often you find good service like that at a local place anymore. There is a bit of a queue for a table but it moves quickly, especially if you're prepared to have a seat outside under the heaters. They have a lot of smaller tables, so you're more likely to be sat faster if there's two of you. If you're a bigger group, come early. So worth it, will come again.

My first visit to poor boys and it did not disappoint! We were greeted by a really nice server and told there was a small wait but he brought out menus so we good have a browse whilst waiting. The server who took our order and looked after us was super friendly! He was patient with us and always smiling. He then went above and beyond with a table nearby to sit with them and go through the menu as they were clearly also first timers. 100% recommend, the food did not disappoint, the servers were all lovely, and the atmosphere was great!

This is our fifth time coming here. Travelled from north London. And this time round we went early just so we could try the chicken cracklings because they get sold out soo quickly and it didn’t disappoint. You will likely have to queue for a bit before getting seated but the service will always be great and the staff will ensure you are informed of the wait time throughout. Amelia was our server and she was great. Knew the menu well and was attentive. Great customer service and will be back once my bank account has recovered 😂

Reckzy was amazing service was great and he was so attentive, food came quite quickly and it was a very pleasant experience, Defo will be back again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
