We were really looking forward to a fish and chip dinner. Two mouthfuls and it went in the bin. Greasy and soggy chips, dry fish (even the dog didn't want it). Food seemed like it had been left over since lunch time. Absolutely gross.

“I’m compelled to share my deeply disappointing experience with the recent takeaway meal I ordered. I had ordered two portions of fish and chips along with bread rolls, but what I received was far from acceptable. The quality of the food left me utterly dissatisfied. Upon opening the takeaway containers, I was greeted with a sight that was disheartening: the fish was dripping with an excessive amount of grease, and the chips were soggy and lacking the crispiness that’s expected. The overall taste of the meal was overwhelmingly dominated by the taste of fat. Regrettably, I had no choice but to discard the entire meal. The fish shop may have been the intended destination for the meal, but it ended up in the bin outside their premises due to the poor quality and inedibility of the food. As a customer, I believe it’s important to provide honest feedback when an experience is this disappointing. I sincerely hope that this review serves as a constructive note for improvement. I had expected a flavorful and enjoyable meal, but unfortunately, the reality was far from that. I hope that steps will be taken to address these issues so that other customers can have a more satisfactory dining experience in the future. Quality matters, and I’m hopeful that this incident was just an anomaly.”

After finishing work yesterday,decided to treat ourselves to Pie and Chips. I had Minced beef pie hubby had Chicken Pie… My Pie was awful.the pastry was all soggy and greasy. It has to be the worst pie I have ever had. The Chips were not much better,went here because in the past it has been lovely. Btw Chips are nothing like the ones in the picture(they look fresh and edible! What’s gone wrong with this place,it used to be lovely??

Excellent chips always plenty for 2 with a large bag. I think it is the fat they cook the chips in, fresh and delicious.

The best fish and chips I have ever had fresh hot and tasted fantastic will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend

Bought fish and chips for my wife and I last night (10 June) - cod was awful, batter was rock hard, cod was chewy and overcooked, looked as if the chips had been there for a while also. Normally the food is of excellent quality but not on this occasion.

Have always used and loved this chippy buy today it was absolutely awful. Dried up leather chips that had clearly been stood about. Waste of money as it all went in the bin. Extremely disappointed indeed.

Visited here last week whilst I was working in cwmbran. The food was outstanding. All the staff were lovely and very welcoming, would definitely come back and would highly recommend👍🏼

Love this chippy anyway however even more so today after my first time trying their turkey stuffing and gravy on chips with some pigs in blankets in batter to finish 👌 absolutely incredible, definitely a must have for the festive season! 🎄🎅

Pontnewydd fish bar is the best chippy about, everything I’ve ever had from there has always been perfection 10/10. taste is amazing , quantity is more than enough. Staff are always friendly & polite. I wouldn’t go to any other chip shop :)

As a regular we always get our fish and chips from this great shop. Great portions, lovely chips!!! It would be great though if they would consider doing gluten free fish as they do in Weymouth very successfully it would mean i could enjoy as well.

Had a delicious meal for four this evening. Two pieces of cod - really fresh and the batter was cooked to perfection. The children had a chicken and mushroom pie and chicken nuggets, there were no complaints from them! The portion size of the chips is so generous, there’s no other chip shop in the South Wales area or further afield from my experience with portions this big! If you’re after a tasty, fresh and value for money chippy tea then this is the place for you! 🤩

Fish went straight in the bin, thick, soggy, greasy batter, fish itself tasted like it was off. Chips were ok but a few had this weird synthetic taste. I think they are keeping things warm for too long.

Just treated the family to a pie, chips and gravy each tonight and my portion size was huge! We all absolutely loved it. The staff and food are always amazing. Highly recommend a trip!

One of the best fish and chip shops in Cwmbran. Even though they are on limited hours they still serve you with a smile and the quality of the food is still excellent.

Been here several times, portion sizes always fantastic, didn't know you could fit so many chips in a small portion!A lot of care and attention goes into the cooking and service here, very friendly and talkative staff and very quick service. Normally a large queue on Friday/Saturday nights but still not a huge wait.10/10

I have been frequenting this chip shop for the last few years after lots of trial and error in the local area. As soon as I tried this place I never when anywhere else!The food is bloody amazing, the portions are huge, the price is brilliant and the service is second to none. It’s clear that everyone who works there is happy in there job which is so rare to see! Always a huge queue but fast turnaround so you’re not waiting long. The pigs in blankets for Xmas... We have been a regular visitor after moving to the area. The food is always good and fresh. There are others in Cwmbran but this is our favourite as its consistently good and no need to use the car :-)

The food is amazing, staff are friendly and prices are low. Trina is welcoming and often has a good chit chat to her customers, Mike is also friendly and approachable. Portion sizes are brill, especially when feeding large quantities or people, there’s always lots of availability and the busiest chippy in Cwmbran because of its fab food and low prices. Defo recommend to anyone and have done previously, I know friends who travel from another borough because the quality is so good!

Love the fish shop been going since I was very young the staff are fabulous and so friendly too and the food is very tasty especially the fish and the fritters been having those since I was in school and the portions are fantastic best chippy about ..

I've been here lots over the past 2 years and it's the only fish and chips take away we use. However on a recent visit I was really disappointed with the fish. The batter was thick and greasy. The fish was thin and didn't have much taste. I'm not sure if it was a one off or things have changed. Maybe things will pick up but for the time being I've been put off.

Didn't fancy cooking so was passing and stopped in, chips portions are huge one bag will serve 2 people, clean, tidy, polite staff, about all you can ask of a fish and chip shop

Fish and chips from here are amazing fish batter is not so thick that it breaks your teeth and they do half bags of chips which is ample for myself and hubby. Friendly and very efficient staff and prices are very reasonable. Will definitely be going there again. Always a queue but worth waiting for and staff very quick.

Not to be missed, fish to die for. Value for money. Very clean establishment. Would like it if they did curry pies, used to able to buy them years ago, can’t find them anywhere now.

Good value for money. The only problem is that there is no where to park at peak times when they get busy be prepared for a lon wait as you could be quing out side the door.

Definitely the best chips in Cwmbran. A regular weekly take away for the Pope family. Only down side is the weight we’re putting on. Keep up the good job guys

Driving past today and we decided to have chicken and chips and I wanted gravy also. Superb chips and chicken and the gravy very tasty. Nice size pieces of chicken breast with enough chips to feed four. Excellent value all round.

Nice to have the fish freshly cooked. Other items I bought were also very tasty. As I am very critical when eating out I have absolutely no complaints at this establishment.

We many not visit a couple times a month but the service and food is always very very good. You can tell this by the long line out side of people waiting to go into order and but their food. Amazing.

Everything is dried up as it’s been sat under a food warmer for way too long. Had cod here a couple of times but each time there’s more bones than fish. Much better fish shops not too far away.

Asked if I could have a piece of fish cooked and told no. Had to buy the dryed out tarmac looking food that they had. At full price Cold chips as well.

Overall they are friendly and good service. The chips are a very good portion. The other food like pasties and fish etc are as pricey as everywhere else. The chips are the main selling point but you must catch them at the right time to get the best chips otherwise they are average to below average

Excellent fish and chips with a loyal following, many queue for ages and buy many family portions. I found the batter crispy ad the chips a nice flavour.

Ordered a large cheese, beans and chips with a large sausage in batter. That alone cost £7 odd 😲 I had a small cheese and chips with small sausage in batter and total came to £11.50. Wasn't even big potions.

Guys in there are so friendly, tell it’s a good chippy people are happy to q no matter how long. Food is the best I’ve had.

This chipshop has been the best in the area for years, Ellie and Paul run it to perfection. I haven't had a dissapointing meal in the 15 years I've been a customer. I regularly travel from pontypool to pontnewydd as it's well worth the extra few miles for their food!!

This has got to be one of the best fish bars in Gwent the fish is out of this world nice and fresh with a lovely batter the staff are friendly and you need to get there early as at peak times they are lining up outside the door to the establishment there is a good selection of meals on there menu which caters for everyone and a variety of sauces if required. a good little establishment.

Stopped at this chip shop and ordered small sausage, chips and gravy in a tray, for my daughter. It cost £4.40, looking at the prices on the board I couldn’t work out how it had cost so much? When I asked the question I was told I had been charged £1.50 for the spoonful of gravy poured over the top!!! I personally don’t find this acceptable and was further annoyed by the attitude of the man, who scowled at me for asking the question!!!

Being a Cwmbranistanian, there is only one place to get fish n chips and that is Pontnewydd. Consistently delicious, excellent portions & friendly staff has seen my family coming back for years.

A regular visitor to this chip shop it is undoubtedly one of the best around. Portion size is plentiful but my last two experiences have been disappointing. Both times asked for pies with the chips only to get home and find them like warm bordering on cold. So disappointing. come on Pontnewydd Fish bar - sort out the temperature of the pies! I’m going to try once more before going elsewhere !

I have never used this chip shop before. Looked clean & staff friendly. I odered 2 fish & chips. Got them home piping hot. The fish had lovely crispy batter & the chips were tasty too.I Would definately be going back.

We rarely have a fish & chip dinner as partner isnt that keen. I won the battle one day so visited here to get tea for the family. Lots of food, value for money and even the other half enjoyed it :) we have visited many times since

This is the best chippy i have been to the food is always great, hot and fresh the only downside is the lack of available parking and there is always a que for the food which i guess may be considered a good thing.

Excellent chippy. May have to wait a while to get served depending on what time you go there but that's because it's so popular. Recently moved to Llany and went to the chippy there as it's on my doorstep so to speak. What can I say. Only 5 people in front of me and I waited 30 mins plus before I left with my food. Sausage was dry, fish was tasteless, small and bony, and the chips were not all that. Had to wait for them to cook the chips also which seems to be a regular thing there. They served another customer before me and someone else who was waiting. She also had cod and chips and as I only wanted 1 cod 1 chips and 1 sausage I could see no excuse for serving her 1st (obviously give people they know priority). Small portions, expensive prices, poor food, and even poorer service. Pontnewydd Fish Bar is the best I have been to in Cwmbran. Lakeside in Llany is the worst I've been to ever..!!!! Won't be trying another chippy in a hurry even if it is on my doorstep. Pontnewydd is excellent, why gamble on going elsewhere.

Why would you buy chips from anywhere else in the area. Always hot and fresh. Great size portions and the fish is excellent. Always friendly happy staff.

Don't frequently call in here but now and again we fancy the traditional fish and chips and this is our first go to fish bar. The service is always excellent. The portion sizes are the stand out aspect of this place...they are huge! Fish is always cooked well, white large flakes and good batter. There is a big variety of other chip shop fayre...pies, curries, mushy peas etc. Prices are in a par with other take-aways in the area but the quality and portion size put this above the rest in our view.Give it a go!

One of the best quality Fish n Chip shops I've ever been to in my life. HUGE portions too.. a small chips fed three of us and I have an enormous appetite! Friendly and efficient service and just great food! Beware of parking though, you'll most likely have to park on the road.

This is one of the go-to chip shops in the area. Very often having to queue outside near evening opening at 5pm. The food is lovely and a large bag of chips will comfortably feed a small family.

Heard a lot about how good this place is. Really fancied some chip shop chips. What a let down. My son came up and bought a bag today. 1pm 3rd of August. Most of the chips were dessicated. So dried up, unbelievable. How long were they kept warm for ?
