Pomodoro e Mozzarella in Eastbourne

The normally excellent service was sadly lacking today( 2nd April 2024) lunchtime. The eight members of our party waited over one hour between finishing our starter and main course arriving. The lasagne had clearly been too long in the oven as top over cooked and burnt onto sides of the dish.This suggested inadequate or incompetent waiting staff. Not a happy lunch experience

Another delightful experience at this restaurant. The staff made both of us feel most welcome and there was a lovely “ buzz” about the place. We were given plenty of time to review the menu and select our wine. The food served was authentic Italian and delicious. Restaurants of this calibre are few and we cannot recommend this one enough. Will be returning.

I visited this restaurant with my wife, and we started with a shrimp salad, ingeniously composed with cucumber slices, and a vegetable soup. For the main course, we tried the pizza and sirloin steak. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was good. The restaurant had a nice decor, enhancing the overall experience. The shrimp salad was a refreshing and creative appetizer, and the vegetable soup was a flavorful start to the meal. The pizza had a delightful combination of flavors, and the sirloin steak was cooked to perfection. We had a wonderful time and would consider returning for the delicious food and inviting atmosphere.

This restaurant is a credit to the owner Luca and all the staff, great hot food good portions and plenty of choice, been many times and always so consistent and great value for money.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish we will definitely return. Service from everyone that served us from being greeted at the door, to taking orders, to serving food, to bringing drinks, to paying the bill was all you could want. Extensive menu so much to choose from it was hard. All our food was cooked perfectly and good size portions, all served piping hot and very well presented. It was absolutely packed even on a week night. Can't wait to go back.

We met friends for lunch and we all selected food from the set menu. The garlic mushroom starter was delicious, with just the correct amount of garlic to enhance the meal with a very appetising presentation. The sea bass filets were also very enjoyable and the coffee to finish the delightful meal was perfect.

Really great food. I had whitebait and then calzone. Nice wine. Service struggled as we were a big party, so some starters only came out with other people's mains. Otherwise fantastic.

Visited here for a birthday meal. Food tasted nice and the portion sizes were good. The service wasn't the best but it was a Saturday night and busy in the restaurant. Overall, we had a good experience but we probably wouldn't rush back to have a meal there.

Good food with a wide range of menu choices including many gluten free, vegan and children’s options. All food presented well , all dishes tasty. Service speedy and friendly. The owner is visible and engages with customers. Gluten free pasta delicious. We had booked but they could not find booking , however they accommodated us easily. Thank you. Always busy and popular with all ages.would recommend.

the food and service were very good, but the restaurant is very loud and the acoustics are not good for that.

2nd time of going here. meals were lovely as were all the staff. recommended it to friends in our hotel who went and loved it. certainly will be back in 2024 while staying in eastbourne. our favourite place to eat.

Amazing restaurant with really nice staff.

Very disappointing experience. Arrived 7.30 as booked and told the kitchens would close at 8pm. Had to order all 3 courses at once. Food was brought out very quickly and cleared for the next course without a break. We felt totally rushed. It was not a good way to eat. The food , though tasted alright, was presented in a very slapdash way. There was no apology for the service or lack of. This was a pre booked Xmas meal so no excuse for lack of preparation. We felt throughout that the waiters were waiting for us to finish so they could leave. When we complained about the service we were told that they had been very busy all day and the kitchen staff had left. Not really our problem!

Having regularly eaten at this restaurant previously we arrived last night for our Christmas dinner only to find a sign explaining that the kitchen would be closing at 8.00 p.m, our booking was at 7.00 p.m. No prior warning had been given of the early closure and it was obvious from the moment we entered the restaurant that the staff didn't want to be there. One particular waiter was surly to say the least. We were rushed into making our choices and equally rushed into finishing our starters so the main course could be served. Apparently there had been a function on at lunch time and the kitchen staff were exhausted but when it's a special occasion, as was the case with our annual Christmas dinner, you don't expect to be hurried to the point of being intimidated. We won't be returning.

We had booked a table several weeks ago for 7.30 pm as a Christmas get together. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff who told us that as the restaurant had been so busy the kitchen would be closing at 8pm and therefore we would need to order quickly. All our courses were rushed through and literally as one course was finished the next was served without a break and we were really made to feel unwelcome. This was really very disappointing because, as a rule, I have always enjoyed eating at this establishment. This time they fell far short of expectations.

We had booked a table for 4 at 7.30pm as a Christmas get-together for friends. On entry, there was a notice saying that the kitchen was closing at 8pm. There had been absolutely no pre-warning of this. Had we known, we would have cancelled and gone elsewhere. We had planned to eat the 3 course Christmas menu. Even before our 4th person arrived, we were hassled by a waiter to each order our 3 courses as the kitchen was closing. Once our table was complete we were again asked to quickly order our food - all 3 courses. We did so, then experienced a very unpleasant meal whereby, as each plate was taken away, another waiter was waiting behind the clearer with our next course. In their rush, the plates were thrown down on the table; for the main courses particularly, the food had clearly been thrown on the plates with no attempt to present the food to make it look in any way appetising. The quality of the cooking was generally acceptable if you closed your eyes and did not look at the plates. The ongoing hassle from the waiters to finish each course was totally unacceptable. Similarly, we had ordered a decent bottle of wine. There was no attempt by the waiters to pour the wine, the bottle was simply slammed down in the table. We felt so pressured to leave at the end that my wine was largely left undrunk. Two of us had coffee; 2 half-full cups of tepid coffee arrived at about the same time as the deserts were thrown down in front of us. I will certainly never be visiting this establishment again.

Delicious pizza and pasta. Great place to come for all ages. Large groups and more intimate tables too.

Wonderful lunch again with great service. It is a shame I live in North Yorkshire otherwise I would be eating there every week.

Possibly the nicest Italian restaurant I've eaten in. It's a bold statement but seriously. It's banging! The staff were very attentive even though I walked in just gone 9! Very comical and charming. Made the atmosphere even better. I had the penne alla pizzaiola. Basically, pasta, beef fillet strips and a beautiful pizza style sauce. Tasted awesome and the beef tasted as though it was fresh. The restaurant also has pictures inside of the famous people that have eaten here & the reviews speak for themselves. Thank you, keep up the good work and I will certainly return!

Had a meal on Wednesday r Table booked for 7pm we were greeted upon arrival staff were attentive and helpful starters and drinks were served quite quickly and starter was divine main coarse took around 35 minutes to arrive which was a little long but restaurant was busy but once main coarse arrived food was pipping hot and tasted divine was finished off with a epic desert would definitely recommend to family and freinds

Having been regulars at Pomodoro for more years than I care to remember, you just cannot fault this place, food is always superb, good buzzing atmosphere. We took my mum here for her 80th birthday last night (she requested this even though she lives in Surrey) party of 12, prompt attentive service, fabulous food, what more do you need! Truly a stand out restaurant in Eastbourne that I have never been disappointed with!

We found this place by sheer luck, when other options were exhausted, and frankly I am so glad we were backed into this corner. This is the nicest restaurant I've been to in a while. The staff are accommodating and friendly, the food is outstanding and traditional, the atmosphere was charming. It was fairly cheap and definitely cheerful. The dining rooms are large and we were among the first to be seated so thought it might be quiet, but when we left there was a queue to get in and the room was bustling with conversation and activity. They have their own specially curated vegan menu (not extensive but there are multiple options considering its a non-vegan place, and delicious pizza!! And pudding!), plus other "accidentally vegan" items in the main menu.

what a great find near to our hotel imperial. very busy popular place . genuine italian restaurant. all our meal was delicious just like being back in napoli. we often visit eastbourne and this will be our must go to place every time. lovely restaurant and staff.

We were staying in Eastbourne just for the night and booked this restaurant for 19.30. We turned up and waited at the sign to be seated. Four more people eventually joined us. And still we waited . Thank god it wasn’t snowing but then it would have still be warmer outside then the welcome we were experiencing inside . We could see that the restaurant was not particularly busy so were perplexed by our treatment . No body even asked if we had booked. Eventually across the room a waiter beckoned us with crooked finger. No word was spoked. We walked over and he turned his back on us and walked to the back of the room by the kitchen. We stopped and hesitated. Again the finger beckoned !. We were shown to a table , no word was said , no menu was given or explained. We took one from the next table and waited. My partner and I looked at each other and said, shall we leave. As we didn’t know the town we stayed. A waiter turned up and our order was taken.Thank goodness we didn’t wait too long for the wine, or the food. Goodness the waiter just spoke to us, a thaw was setting in we hoped. The food was surprisingly good except for a side plate of boiled vegetables. I glanced up and every table seemed to have one. I hadn’t seen this for twenty years, a little thought in this subject could have turned it into a rememberable meal . When we called the bill and it was presented to us , we mentioned our complaints to the waitress, the look of boredom on her face summed up this place. We left a tip for our waiter who without him , we would have walked

Fish soup,not really what I was expecting,the other bruschetta and bolognese,been ok. I ordered glas of red,not really good. Then I decided to order a bottle of valpolicella,good value for the money. The desert was tasty,apple tart. Maybe I will see you again. Thanks Adi

We’ve always found the service un-friendly and sharp and have never understood all the fantastic reviews. The waiting staff never crack their faces and sometimes even make sarcastic remarks about customers within earshot. The bottle of wine we ordered was just plonked with a thud on our table by a young waitress. She didn’t even attempt to pour it out, let alone let us taste it, she just walked off. So we poured it ourselves. We had to remind her about the water we’d ordered which was again plonked on our table with a stern face. No glasses were given to us, so had to flag down a waiter for glasses. No mean feet, as all waiting staff do their best to avoid making eye contact. The food was okay, but again, un-ceremoniously plonked in front of us and for three of us, our meals were just handed to us across the table.

This restaurant isn’t perhaps for those with a more refined taste. Food arrives like a well organised production line, abrupt staff shout the name of your meal when it arrives (even when it’s quiet), food was rather bland, and therefore expensive. The side dish of vegetables were cooked to perfection. My friends choice of pizza looked nice. The somewhat arrogant manageress refused our request to pay for our meal separately to our group of 10, requested as we were not consuming alcohol, instead she gave us a pen and paper to itemise our own order! Went to pay to find the prices are more expensive at time of payment compared to what is on the menu. I had a less than satisfactory experience, and begrudgingly paid the bill, and the undeserved 10% service charge.To be honest I left still hungry. I’m astonished businesses still operate at this level. Had it not been the occasion of my friends birthday, I would have left before ordering.

Our first port of call whenever we are in Eastbourne, Pomodoro is always a pleasure. Great food, excellent service and lovely ambience - its an object lesson in how to run a successful business. Plenty of on-street parking and close to both theatres.

Took a long time to seat us down at the table once we were sat down next to the door which was wide open and asked politely to switch tables and there was tons of tables available and they sat us next to the toilets which had an awful smell coming from inside.We couldn’t take the odour of that place it was disgusting so we left and went to pizza express

Very busy, probably best to book ahead, a very complete menu with a sensible range to suit everyone. Good attentive service that wasn't intrusive, lovely food stylishly served. Icing on the cake, birthdays being celebrated with lit birthday cake. Yummy.

The best pizza I’ve ever had. I’m a lifetime vegetarian but moving quickly to be a vegan. The vegan Pizza Mediterranean was amazing. With capers, olives, onions and shredded tomato. The vegan cheese was amazing. So creamy. Not just the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had, the best pizza full stop.

We have been to the restaurant many times over the years & have always been satisfied.

First visit when meeting friends who live locally. Very friendly welcome from the owner who is obviously very proud of his restaurant. Service was attentive and brisk and set lunch was great value. Sardines starter, excellent , as good as any I’ve had and main of veal was really good too. The other three enjoyed their meals too.

If you want great Italian food this is the place to go, great varied menu, highly recommended.

Last minute booking as told this is the best Italian in little Italy Eastbourne. Not the best venue for intimate and relaxing dining out as it's extremely close to other diners, extremely popular. Food is definitely authentic Italian and worth the taste.

What a delicious meal I had last night , Mellanzane alla parmigiana, Pizza Calzone and apple pie with ice-cream absolutely delicious. Service very good, toilets clean and tidy. Highly recommended.

Lovely food, vegan options, delicious

We love the atmosphere here and the welcome you get from the staff and of course the food which is always very good. We went for the lunchtime daily menu and chose the Prawn Cocktail for starters. For the main course, I had the Bass in a tomato, olive sauce and served with crushed new potatoes and my wife took the Pizza Picante. For dessert it had to be Tiramisu with Strega. Excellent as always with very attentive, friendly staff.

My first visit with friends , my perfect idea of a family Italian restaurant, cannelloni was excellant would certainly visit again , but we live 300 miles away!!!

Bit of a mix response. Food was good size and good price and tasted nice. However 24h later i had food poisoning... 95% sure it came from this place so very weary of going again. Service was ok, nothing speciel, they dont exactly smile.

Friendly staff, neat and clean place.

We went for lunch, got the shrimp salad.. wasn’t good. Was mixed in sauce and the sauce tasted like a variant of mayonnaise mixed in with something else. The lasagna I think was frozen possibly.. it was bland and nothing special.. u wouldn’t order it again. The pizza with prosciutto was a disappointment. I would hope for this restaurant to improve as they have lovely staff.

This is just a brilliant family run restaurant. The staff are so friendly, the menu is extension and well priced. We were a party of 4 for lunch. We all chose different dishes and we sent back 4 clean plates. Excellent food. Excellent restaurant.

Brilliant Italian restaurant in Eastbourne, and gluten free food at best.

Got here the moment it opened and it there was already loads of people inside which was a good sign, great value and flavourful.

Amazing authentic Italian cuisine, rather a formal dining experience which can seem intimidating. However if you can ignore that you'll have a very enjoyable, tasty time!

If you find yourself in Eastbourne, and you like Italian food you must try this restaurant. The food is excellent and well presented. The service was polite and prompt, the waiting staff are attentive. The restaurant was busy but not hurried. I for one will definitely go back when im next in Eastbourne. 👌

Sicuramente la miglior pizza mangiata in tutto il regno unito, inclusa l'irlanda. Gran parte del personale è italiano e ovviamente è stato come sedersi a casa. Personale gentilissimo, quella sera era il compleanno della mia compagna e ci hanno omaggiato dei dolci con tanto di candelina ed Happy Birthday cantato in coro dai camerieri, è stato apprezzatissimo davvero. Il segreto della pizza buona sta negli ingredienti che arrivano dall'Italia!

A great Italian restaurant. They don't have such high ratings for nothing. The portions are huge and extremely delicious. Also the menu is very wide. Along with these, the prices are quite reasonable. Especially if you get a 2 course or 3 course meal, you can reach these flavors at very reasonable prices. Besides, the service can sometimes take a while due to the popularity of the place. It will be worth your patience and wait, but don't worry.

We visited on Friday 1st September 2023 We had a very large family gathering in your downstairs room . We had an amazing time, the food was 10/10 lovely , hot and tasty. The service was also 10/10 and we would like to pay a special mention to your lovely Waitress Samantha , she was so lovely and helpful 🥰 a credit to your restaurant.
