What a find . Travelling through Towcester and found this brilliant local pub. Tried the steak pie and the lamb pie and it was piping hot and delicious. Staff very welcoming and attentive . Well done to you all

Lovely old Pub and restaurant in the middle of Towcester. We started coming here in October 2023 and its now a regular haunt for us. The bar staff. selection of pies, mash and gravy are just fab, tho I mourn the passing of the Duck and plum pie from the menu. It's become a favourite place for us to bring friends and every one I have brought here has really enjoyed the fare and atmosphere.

Food was great! Atmosphere great! Staff are super attentive. Very much recommend if you are in the area for dinner

Every couple of weeks, an old classic car racing friend stays while working as an instructor at Silverstone. Over the years we’ve eaten everywhere locally, but this is top pick for choice quality and value. It helps that the the patron, Ed, is very engaging and this is reflected in the overall service. I generally book on the day, avoiding Wednesdays, because that’s quiz night, not only v popular but we don’t want to be shown up for our ignorance…… My current pie pick is the steak and ale with chunky chips and traditional gravy, as good as you’d get at the Ritz, seriously…..it’s top quality. And remarkable value too.

Excellent service, very friendly and helpful. Made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much bother. Food was fabulous - best pie, mash and peas have tasted in a long time.

Last minute booking. Very easy to book and nice message from the pub owner. Quite busy even on a Tuesday night so worth booking. Pie Society menu is fab, also a nice range of sides or alternatives. Good beers. All round top find!

If you haven't been here you are missing one of the best pubs in Northamptonshire. The staff are brilliant, the food is amazing and the Wednesday night quiz is off the charts. The Landlord, a young, handsome, and incredibly sensible chap writes the quiz and all of his own jokes. It is a spectacle not to be missed folks. Get yourselves down there, have a great time and be amazed at how many pub quiz questions you can get wrong (which could just be down to me being as thick as mince).

I am a true lover of pies so to be told about this place was music to my ears, the selection of pies is great, you even choose the type of smash and gravy to compliment your pie. Certainly will be back soon.

We’ve spent years looking fo a traditional pub selling tasty well made pies and now we’ve found one that’s almost perfect.

Have been to The Plough with friends for a pie night or drinks several times. Last night the meal was followed by the weekly quiz night that we took part in for the first time. Food excellent, as always, a great choice of pies, plus accompaniments and a waitress who was first rate in humour and service. We'll be returning on quiz night to try and up our score. Thank you all.

Popped in as a group to have a drink or 2 and was surprised to see the amount of board games on offer. Having a drink and playing games in a nice (but small) atmosphere was thoroughly enjoyable. Sadly we could not try the food...

Excellent traditional pub. Great range of beers. Excellent food with a pie selection to die for. Most pub pies can be stodgy or lacking in nail ingredients. Not here. Deep crispy pastry with ample fillings. The manager and staff are very welcoming with nothing too...

I had a take away and had couple pies it was absolutely delicious best pies i ever tried, filling was full to brim inside the pies mash very creamy gravy nice and thick and the meat was very tender i had steak and stilton pie with black pudding mash and my husband had the lamb and mint pie with same mash very very nice highly recommended, staff very friendly and polite when i picked my takeway up and it was already waiting for me very happy customer be definitely coming back

I have to admit , I rarely opt for a pie on any menu but if anybody could deliver a good pie it would be Ed and his Chef . I opted for the chicken and haggis pie with the garlic liquor and chips . All wonderfully presented for takeaway and piping hot when served . I loved the tenderness of the pastry as nothing worse than pastry you need a hammer to enter . Delicious filling and complemented by the liquor and chips . Need to decide what I am going to have next time .

Although we are in difficult times, the staff were very friendly and Ed took time to speak to us at our table. The food was delicious, the pies have to some of the best I’ve tasted. We all left stuffed and happy

Second visit for a tasty pie and we weren’t disappointed. The chef took on board our comments from the first visit and smashed it out the park this time around. Everything was delicious and we had 4 empty plates. If you haven’t been then you need to. Highly recommend.

When they asked if I wanted the pudding menu, i asked for the pie menu again and ordered a 2nd meal for pudding.. Need I say more? Great staff, great price and most importantly great food.

If you fancy a takeaway with a difference then I heartily recommend The Pie Society at The plough in Towcester.Placed my order, booked a time slot for son to collect and the food arrived home still lovely and hot!I opted for the minted braised lamb pie with mustard mash and a selection of veg. Even had a pot of gravy to die for! Lord above it was good!! Pie was proper tasty- pastry not to thick/heavy , lovely filling and veg was cooked just how I like them (I’m very fussy)Definitely ordering again- great value for money and a perfect Friday night dinner!Thanks Ed and team!

Having eaten in twice since the pie society was launched and both times being hugely impressed, today after popping in after work (for 1 too many drinks), we thought we'd try the takeaway, still faultless quality, massively impressed with Ed and the team and all their efforts. 3 pies in 3 weeks speak volumes in itself as not something we'd usually eat much of.Would hugely anyone looking for a quick meal and amazing value for money, with the added value of a drink or two while you wait

First try at a pie night and wasn't disappointed, really tasty, wholesome fillings, with the combination of the mustard mash and fresh vegetables, looks like Ed, Nat and team are on to a winner .

This is a cracking pub from all angles, but it is the food that is the real stand out feature. They only recently started specialising in pies, and as this is my first visit I've only had the one, but it beats any pub meal I've had in ages. The pie was superb, but there is as much attention given to the mash and veg. I opted for the carrot and celeriac mash, and the flavour and texture were excellent. I wish it was my local!

Opening evening for serving food and every table was socially distanced, Ed and team all had PPE on so felt safe. Ed's new Pie menu was amazing, I don't usually eat pie but wanted to support our local pub and it was the best pie I've ever had. Highly recommend and lots of flavours to choose from and a new menu every week. 5 stars from us!

We’ve always been made to feel welcome at The Plough. If we were calling in for a drink or 2, or a meal with family and friends. We regularly took part in Ed’s weekly lockdown quiz online, never did very well, but enjoyed taking part. I booked a table the other day for for drinks with friends after work. We all commented afterwards on how covid safe we felt. Keep up the good work!

I decided to bring some friends here after dinner as I have eaten here before and always thought the pub very pleasant. However, we were insulted from the moment we arrived as the young bar tender essentially announced to the present customers that she couldn’t be bothered to serve us barely before we’d set foot inside the door! She was so rude and completely embarrassed my friends and I for no good reason and it has completely put me off visiting a pub that I previously thought was very welcoming.

We were visiting Towcester for a couple of days. We ate there the last night and it was really nice. Perfect tastes, some traditional dishes. Black pudding was great. Great recommendation and great food!

Along with friends , booked a table for the Steak and Wine deal. Pleased that we did not have only a Christmas Menu on offer although the choice on that looked impressive . Most of us paid the small supplement and opted for Sirloin. Expeditiously the food arrived, well presented and we all commented on how good it was. Chef happy to substitute peas for a lovely mixed salad upon request . The Merlot and Sauvignon complemented nicely .

Varied well balanced menu, changes regularly and I have yet to be disappointed in my choice . Service can sometimes be affected by competition with the bar but overall the Plough is a very professionally run local pub.

We were looking for some tasty hot food on out visit to Towcester today. Lots of possible venues but plumped for this one as the restaurant looked warm and welcoming- which it was. The pie of the day (chicken and chorizo) was lovely, but especially because of the absolutely beautifully cooked fresh carrots, sprouts and cauliflower that came with it. Service was excellent. Thank you. Will recommend.

My partner and I had a delicious meal here. We were well looked after, the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The Plough is a constant favourite for us.

It was my husband's birthday and we wanted to go out for a meal but not pay a fortune. We live in Silverstone so didn't want to go further than towcester. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We were told the specials and there was a prawn salad as a main but there was no issue to have it as a starter instead. I have to say the service was very slow but the food definitely made up for it and reasonably priced too. A local said the owners of the pub were on their honeymoon and that is why the service was slow so we will be returning in the near future for another meal.

Only visited for drinks ok a Saturday afternoon. Very pleasant pub with a nice selection of drinks. DJ on Sat night, so open longer. Nice staff, very friendly

We are a local charity that has chosen The Plough for our Lunchtime Socials. This was our second meeting and we decided the last visit was soooo good, we would book again. We were not disappointed. Excellent service and wonderful food. Definitely worth a visit. I particularly like the fact that many of their Lite Bite Menu,is a smaller version of the Main Menu - perfect. We were in Towcester for a wonder around as we fancied a trip out exploring having recently moved to Brackley. We decided to have a meal at lunchtime as we were heading out in the evening and wouldn't be able to have something substantial.

After a great day at the food festival and a couple of cheeky gins at the Mill we called in to The Plough to see if we could get a meal - I normally drink at The Plough on a Friday evening but havent eaten there for some time, not since the previous tennants were there. Ed (landlord) found us a table and advised that it may be 40 minutes for food as the place was packed, not a problem so we had a drink and placed order. When the food came it was nicely presented and fresh and hot. Great starters, and then the main - my mixed grill was superb, great selection of quality meats, cooked to perfection, best I have had for years. Friendly sevice, nice atmosphere, excellent food at respectable price. Well done Ed, you should be proud of what you have achieved, you leave the other Towcester venues in the distance.

Party of 4 were divided between the lunchtime and main menu and all the dishes scored highly. If you have a good appetite , go for the mixed grill. Plate cleared by a 83 year old . The ‘Youngs’ was in perfect condition and if you are lucky try the guest ale ‘Ghost Ship’ from Southwold . Beware it does not hang about for long .

First time at this pub, was impressed by 3 things - comfy seats, good service & extreemly large portions! er (Mushrooms on Toast) could easily pass for a main, what made it even better was the taste - absoultely superb, had chosen this venue as it is about half-way between Nuneaton & Aylesbury, where our eldest son (Ross) lives with his partner, as this nwas a Mothgers Day treat, albeit the day before the big day, will be eating here again in June, can't wait!

Amazing is all I have to say!! Food was top notch as always and the service was great. You really can’t go wrong with the steak night deal on a Thursday. Absolute winner in my eyes.

Called in for a lunchtime bite to eat and was made to feel welcome straight away, offered to set up a tab as we were ordering food. Lovely meal, we both had the light lunch menu, I had hunters chicken and hubby had sausage and mash. Both meals were freshly cooked, looked good and tasted great. Plenty big enough for us, in fact our only complaint was that we hadn’t room for any of the delicious looking puddings on offer, will be back soon.

Had really good afternoon with family young and older, the Sunday lunch was excellent and wow what a lot of food veg was very good and cooked perfectly and all the meat was very lean and tender,we were all well looked after by Ed and the staff thanks .Lesley and Maurice

Nice traditional pub. Very welcoming landlord who made us feel right at home. Charles Wells house with a selection of 4 quality real ales, including Black Sheep, when we visited. Although we didn’t eat there was a good menu, including daily specials and light dishes.

Perfectly cooked steaks and accompaniments, friendly and hospitable service , a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Consistently good and very welcoming.

Had a couple of drinks and then asked whether we could order some bar food. The young lady was very vague and when asked if we could look at a menu it was like we had asked a difficult question and took a while for the penny to drop. The food was fine when we got it.

We were able to book a table for four for an early meal midweek. We were well welcomed. As soon as we arrived at the club and shown to a table reserved for us and asked for our drinks orders and provided with the menu sheets. There was a good selection of food we made our choices and eventually the food arrived, which was excellent.

We were part of the group mentioned in the previous comment. I can only reiterate all that was noted . The presentation of the food was top notch and my turkey choice went down well . Service was excellent and a good time was had by all. A big thanks to all of the staff involved.

14 of us descended on the plough today for Xmas lunch. What can I say.....the food was a plenty (thanks Nat) the drink was flowing and regularly asked if it needed topping up (thanks Ed) and the service was lovely so thanks to Ellie and Michelle for that. All in all a fab time and would highly recommend!

We wanted to book a table for lunch and called but no one answered. So we filled in the contact form asking to reserve a table. Hours later with no communication from the restaurant we decided to go there, a big effort with two toddlers on a stroller. We enter and they said they’re fully booked. I asked why they didn’t answer their phones and had not responded to the online contact form hours later. The snooty response was “sorry, we’re booked weeks in advance”

Travelled up from Devon to see relatives who live in Towcester, four of us had lunch here last Saturday 15/12. What a treat, wonderful food, lovely beer and topped by the warmth, attention and service by the landlord, this place is a must to visit. All of us have been licensees and recognises the way to run a house like this, and they do here. Real quality.

We visited this pub for our "Family Christmas Meal" and had a lovely time and the meal itself was amazing. When we arrived our table had been set up to look different and special to the standard tables as we were having our festive meal. After we were seated the landlord Ed came over and had a small chat with us before collected our drinks order, which was nice as it was clear he was very busy but still took time to welcome you. When we received our starters they were well presented, hot and just generally lovely. We were then given just enough time to digest the starter before our mains arrived. They too were hot and tasty. A nice touch, in my opinion, was that we got a vegetable selection with our meal even though our food wasn't the traditional Christmas dinner and this is the first time I have experienced this myself at a pub with the festive menu. Usually, it is as stated on the menu for everything apart from turkey. As with the previous course, dessert arrived after just long enough and was to a very high standard. After the meal had finished the chef came round to each table and had a brief chat with them, asked them about their meal and some general light "chit-chat". Overall the whole experience was very welcoming and friendly, the food was amazing and would definitely recommend it to others for both food and as a general place to go.

Second year in a row visiting the Plough with friends after this special service. Always very impressed with Ed the landlord very accommodating. Waitress was also good. Points to consider maybe for kitchen, broccoli was really hard and Yorkshire puddings too, maybe left to dry out for too long. Also not enough lamb left for our order so few had to swap to beef which was a little disappointing, but overall a good experience!

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch as a group of 10. Me and my partner waited outside for the rest of the group to turn up and thought it looked much like any other pub. However on going inside we were really suprised to see a really nice, well decorated welcoming pub. We got a drink and there were cheese, pates and crackers on the counter for people to snack on which was a lovely touch.

What can I say we love this pub and the food had a fantastic meal tonight hubby had a mixed grill which was superb I opted for a meal off the specials board which was Mediterranean wellington and it was outstanding absolutely superb loved it well done to Ed and his staff 10/10 from us as per usual xx

There is always a warm and friendly welcome at The Plough, Towcester from landlord Ed. It’s a traditional pub with an excellent choice on the menu and a specials board catering for all tastes. There are starters, mains and desserts to choose from with food being sourced locally. The food is always of high quality and with excellent customer service from all the staff. My husband and daughter had pheasant burgers and I had lasagne for our mains. We also had starters and desserts. Would highly recommend this pub.

Booked in for my wife's 40th Birthday lunch as we are regulars at The Plough and knew we would not be disappointed.

Went for Sunday dinner with friends. We all felt the service poor, no wine list, too much undercooked veg (after requesting well cooked twice), not enough meat and poor quality. Only positive was the sticky toffee pudding.

The food was hot and very well prepared and tasty. The manager and serving staff were exceptionally friendly and service was quick and efficient would definitely recommend and visit again.

We both had hunters chicken which was delicious, perfectly cooked. Very generous portions, which we “ploughed” through to the end ! Great service, not in your face but attentive, a lovely meal 😊

Took my wife for a meal out to this place and it was very lovely. Meal was delicious and served very quickly. They also do quiz evenings, which we've attended on occasions, and they are always great fun. Nice ppl, nice food, nice 'ambiance' as Mickey Flanagan would say.

Went for Sunday lunch with wife and our best friends. The others had a mahoosive roast whilst I stuck to scampi & chips. Service was absolutely first class and all food was wonderful. Will be back again!!

Was just a small restaurant at the back of the pub, but the food, service & the friendliness of the staff we couldn’t fault at all. Was only about £18 for 2 courses & a drink per person. The only criticism is that the portions were big. None of us could finish our main courses. Would be a 5 star experience for someone with a big appetite.

Been here on several occasions with my family and each time have had a lovely meal. The portions are decent size and good value for money. Worth a visit

I love The Plough. Had the most amazing roast dinner recently. The staff were very accommodating when we couldn't decide which roast we wanted they put together a special mix of meats for us :-) Can't wait to go back!

Popped in for a couple of pints at lunchtime and the Youngs was as good as usual . Even personally delivered to the garden as Ed was just setting up the new barrel . Was keen to have a prawn salad and whilst not on the menu that day , the chef knocked up a first rate meal that was just what I wanted . The Plough always goes the extra bit further on service and that is why it is so popular .

We called in on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a drink or two in the outside area. It was a lovely sunny day and the atmosphere was lovely and friendly. The manager Ed was very helpful and attentive. Have eaten in the restaurant before and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back when we are in Towcester again.

What can I say visit the plough often for social drinks had the steak meal out on a Thursday night excellent value for money good quality steak and sides the staff are very attentive also nothing to much trouble for any of them so thanks to Ed Natalie and Beca fab team always smiling and also run a fab pub

What can I say the manager is fantastic and really personable. He also really looks after his beer. The beer garden is a hidden gem and really well kept. We will definitely be back with friends and family.

I regularly pop to the plough for a few drinks but haven’t had food in while. It was lovely to sit in the refurbished garden on the decking surrounded by pretty flowers. I had the swanky scampi, the coating was crisp and tasty not greasy at all. My boyfriend had the lamb burger, the feta & sun-dried tomatoes on top were delicious. The service was excellent.

This was our second visit in 2 months. The atmosphere and service were good, the food was very tasty and well presented. The menu is fairly limited, they must have had a busy day as there were 3 options not available, which was a shame. The Spiced Pumpkin Tagine on the specials board was lovely, but if you are vegetarian the choices are very limited. Good value food and drink.

We came here on Saturday the 21st Of April and we have been here a few times. The beer is always outstanding quality and the best pint you could have. The pub is always very busy which is great to see. Myself and my family love coming here every time we visit Towcester. It’s such a lovely pub with such a lovely friendly ampersphire. The staff are all very lovely people and very friendly. The beer in this pub really are the best pints I have I always look forward to my beer in here. The Palmer’s love this pub. Xxx

We are regulars at the Plough and recently tried a couple of the other restaurants but will always eat at the Plough because it was easily the best in the area. We will be back again :-)

The plough is a very interesting and unique establishment however food wise it is a hidden Gem. My wife and I had lunch at the Plough on Sunday 25.3.2018.

Visited Towcester to see friends. Afternoon racing, followed by steak night @ Plough. Great evening, good food & atmosphere. A real gem of a place.
