We visited on a Monday night and had an excellent welcome. The staff were very knowledgeable about every detail of the food, wine and cocktails which helped our choices. The food was amazing and they have a very talented chef without doubt. The only issues we faced were two items ordered not being brought to us. Firstly the bread which hadn’t arrived by the mid point in the meal which was odd, so we enquired about this and it arrived 5 mins later. The other dish we had ordered we asked about at the end of the meal so it came very late, around 15 mins after other dishes were finished. We were charged for the bread twice on the bill so I had to ask for this to be refunded at the end. It’s no problem for restaurants not to write orders down as they take them, but it’s frustrating if this ends up ending in mistakes. It’s a slight shame as otherwise it would have been an easy 5* review.

Come to Brighton a couple of times a year, have made plateau a tradition. Always manages to fit us in, great cocktails, wine and steak tartare every time!

Nice vibe. The tall barman (Pal?) really knew his stuff. We loved the “Yesterday’s Bread” dessert- it was a lovely twist from the usual but all the food was good.

Outstanding. Such a hidden gem. Delightful staff, delicious small plates (Sqaush with sage, beetroot, porchetta) and intimate restaurant. Highly recommended, and looking forward to returning.

Very atmospheric with lovely food and drink options - extensive wine, cocktails & spirits with a selection af specialty beers. Food looked awesome and our neighbours were delighted with their meals! Not amazing for plant-based (us) and that is the missing star from my perspective. Highly recommended!

Amazing dining experience. Relaxed atmosphere, exceptional service and incredible food. We loved that all was locally sourced, some grown by farmers right outside of town. Unique produce grown using biodynamic farming methods. Sourced organic wines and sustainable proteins. Everything was fresh and flavorful, with unique taste combinations. Absolutely Delicious! Attentive and well informed server. Patient with our 6 year old. Exceptional dining experience.

A beautiful spot, service was a little surly and for a place with many dip-style dishes it wasn't great to run out of bread. But a lovely spot for a date, although it was quite expensive for what it was.

Nice atmosphere, but there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to service and specially food. Well overpriced for what it is. I also ordered a glass of red wine (Picnic 2022) that I couldn’t finished. I’d say it’s been opened for ages and wasn’t kept properly. They didn’t even bothered to ask why my glass was full when we left. On top of everything, you get a “discretionary” service charge of 12%. Won’t be coming back that’s for sure.

This was very good! Weirdly quiet, I guess it’s in a sort of odd location? The food and wine were excellent. Could do with a little sprucing up in the space.

I’m not surprised to find the low service reviews on Google having had my first negative experience at Plateau this evening. Let me start by saying this is my 5th time eating here and as always the food and wine was incredible. Our waiter was also amazing & so patient & helpful in accommodating our dietary requirements. Upon ordering our dessert right at the end of the night; the man running the bar pulled us aside to ask us to keep our “squawking down” since we were ruining other customer’s experiences. As a table of 8 women in our late 30’s who were out enjoying a birthday dinner on a Thursday evening in a restaurant with music loud enough that we needed to speak loudly to be heard; we were extremely insulted by this. I’d previously heard the reputation of this place being pompous but had never experienced it before tonight. We’ll take our “squawking” elsewhere. For a bill in excess of £500 there are far more friendly & welcoming places to eat in Brighton.

Emperors new clothes. Please order a number of small plates of overpriced food and you can have the luxury of still feeling hungry when you leave. Terribly overpriced wine and mediocre service by disinterested staff. Nice setting though.

I had to order at the bar as the waiter forgot about us, I had to pay at the bar as well as the waiter was busy but I still got charged Service fees.

Great place to pop in for small plates or a glass of wine/ cocktail. Very small venue which makes the atmosphere lovely. Bar staff are very knowledgeable about all of their wines and happily let you try anything new.

I can here with friends last night and had a great meal and cocktails. I had a Margabeeta which was an interesting take on the traditional Margarita and was delicious. We shared a selection of Tapas and there were plenty of vegetarian options. I had pan heggarty, a yasai tempura type dish and caponata. There was a great atmosphere upstairs and the room was air-conditioning which was perfect in the hot weather we have been having. The room was a bit dark and every time we asked for the lights to be turned up one of the staff kept turning them down.

The food and wine here is always just perfect, our waitress was so lovely and funny, she made everything so perfect for us, I think her name was Olivia, thank you SOOO MUCH! ❤️❤️

We went for lunch today. We used to go often in the past, but slowly the quality of food went down; there is no consistency. The food was very oily and did not taste great in general. We complained to the waiter (in the most kind way possible), who did not take it very nicely, saying that the kitchen was quite busy, which explained the quality of the food. It was a disappointing experience. I don’t think we will be back, and neither will our friends.

If you like tapas with a twist then this is place for you, I loved the dishes recommended,wine selection was lovely. also had an arm injury and staff accommodated me moving table so other customers and staff walking through wouldn't bump into me,

A lovely little gem in Brighton. Lots of small home made delicious plates and organic wines. Seats inside or out for those sunny Brighton days. Enjoy!

Restaurant in Brighton popular Lanes district, hipster post nouvelle cuisine. Service by breathless although knowledgeable young people who are having “the time of our lives”. When we visited in 2022 there were few words on the minimalist all lower case menu and just when you think you recognise something you collide with kabu, ponzu, gnudi, slipcote, bramblteye, dukkah, haggerty and hispi (charred of course). This is enough new Scrabble words for one day. You feel like you are on the verge of a discovery and this team will journey you there. Fasten your seat belts! What the French do with aplomb needs heroes in the UK and these guys fit that bill exactly. Recommended.

Really great little spot for Tapas and very friendly service

My mate introduced me to this. It's his wife's favourite place for vegetarian food. The natural wines are a revelation, the food is good, and at this time of year it's pleasant to sit out in the sunset. I'll definitely come back here.

The wine list is truly eclectic, all natural wines by which I assume they mean organic and expensive. Vivino not much help as too few ratings you're that far off the beaten track. The recommendation from the waiter was interesting but not something I'd ever order again, has a fizz to it, we all thought it tasted like Vimto. My food was nothing that blew the lights outs, sourdough starter was pleasant, salami was a little bland, vegetable tempura was probably the highlight and the pork schnitzel was coated in the most incredibly crispy panko crumb but underseasoned. Restaurant is really dark, but full and buzzing. Portions are on the small side and some of the table were still hungry after working their way through the menu. Enjoyable evening but not a do over for me.

For sunny afternoons the tables outside are a must. A lovely list of funky, natural, organic, skin contact, biodynamic wines as well as some small plates. A bit on the expensive side, but very good vibes from the staff and definitely to try.

Lovely food, although some of it was slightly underwhelming for the amount it cost. Service was ok, not very attentive though, didn’t ask if everything was ok with food or drink. In summary food was great and we would think about going again but some items were overpriced for what it was and table service could be a lot better considering it is not a cheap restaurant.

This restaurant promised much and they delivered - more or less! They had run out of olives…and the drinks menu needs much more explanation. Who knew Silly Cow was a cider?! I know we could have asked about the drinks but there would have been a huge list of questions. However, the food was amazing, the service fantastic and I would highly recommend a visit. You might just need deep pockets, as always with tapas.

We were only there for a quick drink, but we were won over by everything. Wine selection good, wonderful atmosphere and very nice service. Have felt really comfortable. Dog friendly!

I feel bad rating this less than 4 as our waitress was so lovely and they seemed like such a great bunch working there but I really was underwhelmed by the length of time it took to eat, the quantity on dishes (even for tapas dishes) and the food itself. I left hungry

Good food and wine but sadly the service ruined our experience. A member of staff's manner was very rude and negative when my friend moved to the other side of our table to sit out of the sun. The member of staff made us feel very awkward and uncomfortable and made a very big deal out of having to replace a chair from the table just next door to us. We were then made to feel unwelcome for the rest of our time. We are from Brighton and we choose to come to Plateau over other similar places in the area. We won't be coming back.

Too cool for your customers? Very slow service, no friendliness or interest. What we ate was nice but it’s expensive for what you get, and not worth it when the service is so lacking. If you’re after a recommendation try Flint House instead which is just around the corner and exemplary.

Amazing spot! I had never drank natural wine before, staff were helpful and the bottle we settled on was delicious, probably the nicest wine I’ve ever had. The food was really lovely, and so was the atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back here.

Quite a nice atmosphere inside but the food and drink is very overpriced for what it is and I would agree with other reviews that at times the wait staff were not the most welcoming and gave the impression that they were doing us a favour...!

The food is five stars but the service left much to be desired given the price of the plates. Probably 3 stars at best for service. After waiting a while for service, our server was rather unwelcoming and seemed disinterested as did the person behind the bar. Thankfully our meal was ordered with a third member of staff who was a little better. They were helpful when I asked about options and the name of some of the salad leaves They did not inform me the card payment was not working quickly enough and we had to leave to get cash. Waited an age for the bill. Food wise, the cider vinegar dip, fish and sides were superb. Management need to get a grip on the service as I am likely to visit another restaurant on next meal day and there are plenty of decent ones nearby.

One of my favourite places to eat and drink in brighton. Staff are always friendly and helpful with questions about the food and their organic wines. Have never had a bad visit and highly recommend plateau as a place to visit.

Unfortunately we were served by arrogant and condescending waiter. The wine and food are average for what we paid, leave alone the service. The place itself didn’t give the vibe (too loud)

Nice wine but terrible service apart from the nice server with the lovely nails( shout out to you). Our group was made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I would actually recommend Med which is a few doors down from plateau as it had great food, wine, atmosphere and the best service!

Good wines but terrible service. Some of the staff were lovely so we might have just been unlucky and got served by two of their worst staff. We did not feel welcome from the minute we arrived and that soured the entire experience for us.

Disappointing service, staff were dismissive and short. Strong contrast with the lovely Brighton hospitality we experienced in other places around the area. Wish it was better as it was a recommendation!

Such a lovely little restaurant, great atmosphere and good service. The wine really isn’t to my taste, it tastes like apple cider vinegar to me. The vegetarian food was a little bland and the tempura was very greasy. The cocktails are great though.

Nice little setting and lovely staff but food was very average. We arrived at 9:30pm and as the kitchen closes at 10pm we were served food that had already been cooked and had just been reheated. Not the quality you’d expect for these prices. Better go there early if you want freshness!

Really enjoy our light meal here in this lovely bistro. The vibe, the foods, the atmosphere etc🤗 Beef tartare & garlic butter oysters are so so good!! Well definitely revisit this place for sure:)
