Plas Hafod Hotel Restaurant & Bar in Flintshire

Lovely place for a wedding. The food was outstanding and their leek and potato soup was possibly the best I've ever tasted. Fantastic roast beef dinner as well.

Hotel has been taken over by Harrison Hall and no longer does evening meals. Beautiful grounds and hotel. We had coachmans cottage which was quaint. Used as a wedding venue midweek. Good and plentiful breakfast .

Fantastic wedding venue, staff were great and tge food was fantastic, beautiful location and lovely rooms we stayed in a deluxe double , luckly the window opend wide as theres no fan or aircon.

Poor food. Slow service . Will not go there again.its a shame..as it's a lovely place with wonderful settings...but food was poor . Sunday lunch was very minimal 4 choices ,no starters, and simple puds, no effort made to enhance what was priced at £25 a head ,,! Very disappointed.

Wonderfully quaint! The location of this property was beautiful and the grounds were exceptionally well kept. Our room was basically a little cottage and was lovely! With breakfast included (which was also absolutely amazing) at such an excellent price I would 100% return. I couldn't fault the place it is absolutely up there with one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Absolutely loved it! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay to all the staff at at the Plas Hafod!!!

Visited this lovely place twice recently and on both occasions the service and the food was excellent!! Would definitely recommend as everything was spot on.

Have visited this place many times for lunch and have always enjoyed it. Booked afternoon tea for a friend's birthday, unfortunately when we arrived they did not have our booking. Eventually we were given a table. There was a good selection of sandwiches, the cakes were a disappointment though, as it advertised a selection of cream cakes.. We asked if we could take the remaining scones, cream and jam and brownies home, when we checked the box there was only one pot of cream and jam, 2 scones and one brownie. Ask if we could have the rest and did get another pot of jam and cream but never got the brownie. Very disappointed as we had looked forward to going out after having been in lockdown and being unable to celebrate birthdays until now.

Came here for lunch with my parents. Was impressed with the efforts to make the place covid secure. Good food and good service. Here is my parents favourite place to eat and they come here as often as they can.

We decided after lockdown a lunchtime treat would be nice. We booked with our senior friend to go t9 Plas Hafod. We were assisted to our table by a very helpful young man. We had a lite bite, smoked salmon and prawns on Henllan brown bread with a bucket of chips. Posh fish and chips absolutely delightful. My husband had a green Thai soup, the aroma was fantastic. We finished off our lunch with a Knickerbocker glory, hot cherries brownie and ice cream, and a white chocolate trifleWith pistachios. Wow , what a treat!!!!!. Cant wait to go again. We were waited on beautifully and escorted back to the car. Thank you so much

Had to wait a short while due to the current Covid 19 measures for temperature checks but this is understandable. Nice atmosphere on entry. I found my order of the Christmas meal was unfortunately lacking many of the extra quality I had come to expect from my previous (good) visits here. The veg was over cooked (plus no cutlery to accompany the veg dish) and the spuds were ok but nothing special. On the plus side the turkey was nice. My desert of strawberry cheesecake was nice but the portions were of unequal size to my other guests. Service appeared polite but rushed. The room we ate in was in an area I hadn’t eaten before and I liked the cosy (but safe) surroundings of it with there being just the right room temperature and nice Christmas music going on. Would I eat here again, well I have eaten here many times over the years and so I would say yes and hope my (average) visit was just a one off and they are back on form next time around.

Booked a midweek meal for myself and my husband. The restaurant looked fabulous, the Christmas decorations were stunning - I believe the owners had spent the entire 2 week lockdown completing them. We ordered the Baked Camembert and the Black Pudding started, both were delicious. Then we had the Christmas Dinner and have to say that the chestnut stuffing was absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed the occasion so much, we have just booked an overnight, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast for couple of weeks time.

This email is just to thank you, not only for the delicious food, but for going out of your way to make us feel as safe as possible. Your precautions against this horrid virus are exemplary; it must have been very hard work to put them all in place and familiarise yourselves with them, and still harder work to maintain those high standards. Nevertheless, you had two very happy customers in us, and we shall certainly recommend Plas Hafod to as many people as possible! We have been coming to your restaurant for a good number of years, and have never been disappointed, but, this evening, it was lovely to go out for the first time in ages, admittedly somewhat nervously, and then to have such a positive experience. Thank you very much indeed.

Visited with friends for lunch on a rainy day, still a beautiful location and not subsidised food. First time since lock down, food very good with excellent and careful service as ever. It passed far too quickly and an error on the bill was quickly sorted, I think they could have done with another member of staff to help them.

Stunning Sunday lunch at the Plas Hafod today. As awell as the usual Sunday roasts they have extended the menu and the Guinness Pie is beautiful . Fist venture out since lock down and highly recommended. 👍

It was disgraceful!Sandwiches so tiny,scones horrible, not home made, very cheap bought in ones, a piece of stale fruit bread and sort of mushy creamy thing seemed like thrown together left overs from an earlier meal, some small bits of cheesecake possibly sour cherries, we sampled bits and pieces but left 99% of it. The worst afternoon tea we've ever had, never again!

Me and my husband took his parents today for the Sunday menu as a bit of a treat for them. On arriving we got drinks from the bar and we’re told our table, we then went in search of our table, having never been before we were exactly sure where this was, we eventually managed to ask a staff member who showed us to our table, only to find another family were sat there. We were then lead out of the main room and into the conservatory, which wasn’t a problem, and sat at a table made up for 3 people, there were 4 of us. We were given menus and left sitting for 25 minutes before someone took our orders. When we ordered our meals we ordered more drinks, however the starters came without the drinks, or the additional place setting made, we had to ask for cutlery despite my mother in law not having any, something we had requested when we placed our orders. Eventually the starters were cleared and the drinks were re-ordered. We then waited, and waited, after over an hour had past, we were given an apology and a round of complementary drinks, I appreciate that these things happen, however if it was just the wait for food alone we probably wouldn’t have left feeling so underwhelmed. The food itself it’s lovely and there’s plenty of it, the value is good and the staff seemed pleasant, however we felt like we were a burden rather than looked after. We spent 3 hours here after the wait between courses and when we finished we weren’t offered hot drinks and mints like other tables were so requested the bill instead, all in all it could have been so much better, what a shame.

Excellent food, nice efficient service. The Sunday Lunch is particularly good. Other lunchtime choices are excellent also. Very good value for money. Well worth a visit.

Went to the restaurant on my birthday with our daughter following a check to make sure there was a vegan choice on the menu. We were shown our table in the conservatory and given the menu to peruse. The choice was a bit limited and sadly for our daughter was down to the “vegetarian wrap” which was strange to say the least. It consisted of a pancake with humus and peppers with gravy?? The room was quite chilly and service a bit lacking. We waited for the bill then had to request again. Usually a great place to visit but on this occasion didn’t meet its high standards. Will try again sometime as we hope this was a one off!

Been here on so many occasions. Business, family, weddings etc and it never fails to impress. Would thoroughly recommend.The food never fails to please with a very varied menu and the staff are excellent. On my most recent visit with a terminally ill friend staff allowed us privacy and time to enjoy our meal. It was his first, and sadly last visit to Plas Hafod. Thank you for making it a special occasion.

My wife and I returned once again to this local hostelry for Sunday lunch, confident in the fact that we would be welcomed by the attentive staff and subsequently provided with an excellent choice off a well prepared menu. being Sunday of course, ensured that the three normal meats would be available, plus further variations - thus catering for all tastes. I chose the lamb, whilst Susan chose the beef. I usually avoid the beef as I much prefer mine rare - cooked to order. The crab / prawn starter was very good and I specifically asked the owner's son to tell the chef the good news! We both finished with an apple crumble with extra custard. The resulting bill was extremely reasonable and the service from the staff ensured a gratuity to suit. We shall return.

Always go to the Plas Hafod for our family celebrations and wouldn’t go anywhere else. All the staff are excellent and very efficient and always extremely polite. Food is excellent and always a good choice especially the scrumptious puddings.

Took nearly a hour to get our food from when being ordered dispite being empty....when main came the chips were hardly potato and were all cold the burger was mildly warm too...by the time my sauce had got brought to me id eaten 3/4 meal.....drinks were ordered and forgotton about.....really down hill over past few years i wont be returning again.......and the poor excuse of chips below

Supposed to be a hot buffet...cold meat, salad... chicken thigh curry was the worst I've ever tasted...and a Manager with an attitude problem.... Will not go there or recommend Plas Hafod again.. very disappointing...

Went for an evening meal with my partner, we had reasonably decent food, average service, and paid an average price. Like most places, it would benefit from a wider choice of non red-meat based dishes on the menu though in my opinion.

Visited with friends midweek for lunch. Dodgy weather but our lunch made up for it. The ladies were not particularly hungry so they had sandwiches with chips and salad, one beef, one prawns and they were very substantial and well filled. I had a yen for ham and egg which I have not had for some time and it was excellent. The puddings and the coffee were also excellent, the ladies were particularly impressed with their puddings and said they would have come just for the puddings!! Quiet, great service and we had a great chat whilst we eat. The best way to spend over two hours in wonderful surroundings, well worth a visit.

Visited Plas Hafod for lunch yesterday with my vegan daughter to experience a pleasant early afternoon couple of hours . The greenhouse as it is known is a relaxing , informal setting with a lovely atmosphere to make you feel comfortable . I had the lamb rump with tasty crushed potatoes with feta cheese and spinach served with a small dish of vegetables while my daughter had the vegan roulade ; both dishes were very tasty and well presented . The service was friendly and not rushed at a reasonable price .

The experience was make amazing by the warmth and welcome from the team. The level of service was fantastic, and the best bit was the food great selection and 12 very satisfied people all had empty plates. The building offers great views and good facilities.

Over 20 of us visited for lunch. We had preordered which meant we were all served very quickly and efficiently, and everyone commented on the excellent meals we had all had. Recommended.

I have been here many times and the food is really nice and lovely venue for weddings and parties , I will always recommend this.

Got there wine served in tall glasses not wine glasses.conservatory was dirty over fabric.cutely dirty.oils for salads where very dirty an sticky.mayonnasie servedkn little pot with a spoon not from fridge under table out of conservatory shared with other.starter ok.main I look back as duck wrap was cold.an clearly tempature was not tested .they told me its cooker start of day an reheated.omg.i asked for just egg an chip as clear it was not a safe place to eat.they knocked of price of my meal ...but as it was a treat or should have been I only told them about cold meal.the rest I call manager when I got home.manage said he call me back in morning so far he has not.hummm. wouldn't

We visited last Sunday evening where we thoroughly enjoyed a tasty and completely varied Menu hinting on the well enjoyed and much appreciated, " Sunday lunch" . Our taste buds were tickled and satisfied.

We eat in the restaurant with friends during our stay in the area. There was an excellent menu with varied choices. The food was delicious and fairly priced. Lovely ambience and great setting. Staff were efficient too. Would heartily recommend this restaurant.

We dined here with another couple. The menu was really tempting and the choices we made did not fail us. The food was really tasty and fresh. The staff were delightful and the bill a really pleasant surprise as we had eaten and drunk so well for such a reasonable cost. We would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Went to this establishment for lunch with my partner. We attended on speck and were made extremely welcome. All the food that we ordered was of very good quality and cooked to perfection. One cannot ask for anything better.

We decided to celebrate a family meal at the Plas Hafod, and had a nice evening. We're fortunate in that the restaurant is in walking distance, so it is possible to build up and appetite and take in the scenery on a summer's evening.

Had a lovely evening meal and breakfast in the conservatory. It was quiet and very civilised despite being quite busy.Wide choice of food. Particularly enjoyed the lamb rump and fish and chips....best chips I've had for a long time. Deserts good as well.

We have been going to the Plas Hafod, we had our wedding reception there. It never disappoints… Food, staff and atmosphere are always brilliant - highly recommend it. My only issue is the gents toilets that really need modernising.

As it was a Tuesday lunchtime we decided not to book and see if we could get a table. We haven’t been here for a few years and I feel we have been missing out! Our lunch was really good, my husband had three courses and I had a starter, main course and coffee, our bill with drinks came to under £44, but that didn’t include the tip, which was well earned and well deserved. My husband started with what was essentially, mushrooms and cheese on toast, I had duck egg florentine, (toast, spinach, hollandaise sauce and duck egg...perfect) we both then had the pork with a pepper sauce, which came with roast new potatoes and a dish of lovely fresh vegetables, again faultless. My husband then found room for apple and raspberry crumble with custard, he ate the lot, it was also very good. This isn’t a fine dining fancy restaurant but the food is good quality and the staff are very pleasant, as are the surroundings, it is a place which offers good value and is well worth a visit

We have been to this restaurant many times over the last 30 years and it has never disappointed. The views across Mold from this location are utterly beautiful and the hotel stands on perfectly landscaped grounds. The restaurant is very classically decorated, perhaps slightly dated but this adds a certain charm. The varied menu offers a great selection of traditional British dishes, which are served in huge portions by exceptionally friendly and professional staff. Gluten free meals are available and listed in the menu. I will continue to visit this family restaurant and would advise paying it a visit if you are in the Mold area.

Went for the first time in about ten years and it’s as good as ever. Great atmosphere, beautifully prepared food and attentive staff all combine to provide a great experience. We don’t find ourselves in North Wales too often but will be making effort to return again.

We booked a table for 12 of us for a family meal.

I stayed in the hotel this week and couldn't fault it, I have PTSD from my military service and explained on arrival that a quiet room would be appreciated, the Manager gave me a room at the back of the hotel and I was able to park my car outside my room, I went down to the bar and again the young lad who served me was excellent as was the beer, after a great sleep I had a perfectly cooked breakfast. All in all excellent on all fronts someone needs to take a bow for the training of the staff.

Heard this place was really good!..."was not disappointed" the staff were great, seemed to like being their which is always noticed...this hotel is in a great rural location with beautiful surroundings the inside is just great, very clean & has quirky furnishings (not stereotype)... most importantly were the meals which definitely had the Wow factor! You know when you wake up the next day & can taste & remember the meal you had! Well done guys & especially to Adrian for his exceptional service...

on friday 15 february a group of us went for a meal as we have been doing for over 40 years . an altercation occured which i didnt help any by calling happyfoodie 40 a derogatory name . we had finished our meal but she went ballistic and threw us out.

Great selection. 6 Starters, 6 Main Courses, Great Sweet Trolley. Something for everybody. Well cooked and nicely presented, fresh vegetables. Efficient and friendly service.

Plas Hafod is beautiful especially now with the Spring flowers coming out. The food is always very good and the menu is extensive - deciding on what to have is difficult! Go there with your family or friends so you can have a little taste of theirs !The staff are friendly and attentive without being a nuisance.

My partner & I visited Plas Hafod for an evening dinner to celebrate her birthday. It was my first visit but she had been several times. I was very impressed.

We visited here Week last Sunday for a set menu Sunday dinner. Busy restaurant / hotel. Plenty of parking spaces. Two courses were £14 this included a good choice of food. Food was great and all 26 of us enjoyed it. Atmosphere in the 'back room' we were given was great. Really recommend this - much improved on what it used to be.

We have been many times before and the atmosphere has always more than compensated for average food in good quantities.

We have been many times over the years but this year was hugely disappointing. Starter and pudding were ok but the Traditional Christmas lunch was no better than a supermarket ready meal. Turkey was dry, stuffing was undercooked and limited selection of vegetables were simply boil with no attempt to ‘chef them up’. A child could have done better. Needless to say we will not be returning anytime soon.

Have been to the Plas Hafod loads of times and have always enjoyed it. The Christmas décor was tastefully done. Staff pleasant on arrival. A large party was in the conservatory. Sunday lunch parties were in the function room at the back. Quite a few steps for people with mobility issues. Maybe a ramp could be allocated for wheel chair users or walking stick users etc to get to back room. The staff worked really hard as the room was full with many parties there. They had a nice, varied selection for all the three courses and tea or coffee finished off the meal. A older gentleman came to clear our dinner plates and asked if it was all OK? The lamb was really tough for one of our party and couldn't be eaten, so was left on their plate. We told him this and he just looked at the plate, never apologised and started clearing the table. OK you were busy, busy with other parties But don't go through the sham of pretending to care about your customer when they give you an answer you don't like. You didn't have the decency to apologise that they hadn't enjoyed the lamb, you then stayed away from our table for the rest of our time there. We never called you over to make a fuss in the first place, but your behaviour is enough to make us think twice on returning. Which is a real shame for the rest of your lovely staff. They deserve high praise for being very professional, helpful and above all showed they cared for all the guest.

Came as a party of nine for this venue. Food was very good although i found the portions on some of the meat meals were a little on the small side (very nice tasting though). The fish portions however were large and looked, and tasted i have been reliably informed, excellent. Service was good (and thanks very much to the staff who sang Happy Birthday) and the staff who waited on our table appeared to have a genuine desire for our party to be happy with the visit. Plenty of parking available on-site. Well worth the visit.

We visited 31/10/18 .First time here for most of us, recommend by one of the group. A great location and amazing food. We were looked after by a number of waitresses who had genuine smiles on their faces from start to finish, even though there were 10 of us and we were probably quite noisy for the other diners.

Although signposted off the A494 trunk road, the Plas Hafod isn't the easiest place to chance upon. We did not stay at the hotel but had a really enjoyable lunch.

Had Sunday lunch with Family of 6 Staff very attentive and curtious nothing is to much trouble and you are not waiting long between courses. Never felt pressurised to eat and move on the whole experience is welcoming

This is only a ten min drive from home so very convenient and so good! Food is always excellent and a great atmosphere.

Had a lovely tasty steak and it was cooked as I requested a little wait but when it came it was beutifull great place for your party

Called this local hotel on Saturday to see if they had availability for lunch the following day, immediately liked their attitude ‘we always endeavour to find space they said’

Visited for lunch with friends on a last minute booking. Delightful Hotel and Restaurant in a Country setting above Mold. The menu was good as were the prices, Restaurant was busy and service was fast enough to allow conversations to continue without too much interruption. I had a roast beef lunch which was substantial and very tasty, I followed this with cheese and biscuits and the four cheeses were both fresh and very tasty as was the chutney. All in all an excellent lunch. The bottle of pinot grigio for the ladies was good and well priced and the beer was sparkling and fresh tasting. All in all an excellent lunch with bright and attentive service. This Hotel Restaurant is in well kept grounds and I would imagine that it is a great wedding venue. Well worth a try, if only for lunch.

We ate here during our two night stay for a Wedding. There was a good choice of food and wine, and all of the food was delicious and presented beautiful. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble.

Once again the plas hafod staff amazed me they had a wedding on the Saturday at least 100 and us lot about 30 guests plus other families in the restaurant food and drink flowing superbly the menu is amazing can’t fault it if it’s good enough for us to marry there it’s good enough for anything take a trip enjoy your day mention our name for a discount Shirley and mark if it works let us know ha ha ! we visit the plas hafod on occasions particularly as a family for a pre Christmas lunch, its a family owned hotel and the service is perfection the food the same, its an old building with spectaculars views of the countryside

A great place with a friendly atmosphere. Food had veggie options and had something for everyone. It is a beautiful place for a party or wedding.

There were five of us in our party for an early evening meal. It was busy as there was a wedding celebration. However the whole evening went well. The food ordered was delicious. We were treated courteously throughout the evening and nothing was too much trouble. All in all it was an enjoyable experience and no doubt we will be back! Keep up the good work plas hafod.

Enjoyed an excellent meal with my wife on our anniversary. The food is fantastic and cooked to perfection. The plas hafod is located in a scenic country area. A very enjoyable experience.

This service at b go to place for special occasions.excellent food to suit all budgets.The staff are really friendly and welcoming.i have stayed there some yrs sago for my 25th silver wedding anniversary which was a gift.The breakfast was amazing,although I found it a bit creepy during night due to the fact we had been chatting to the staff earlier in the night about the resident ghosts!!!

Took my wife and 6 week old daughter here for afternoon tea on Saturday. Sandwiches, cakes and scones were all delicious and there was plenty for the two of us. Staff were very friendly and polite and couldn't do enough to help. Would highly recommend spending a summer afternoon here in the quiet and peaceful surroundings. Was also pleasantly surprised when paying the bill, great value for money. Will definitely be going again soon.

So this was the venue for my good friends wedding and some distance to get to but totally worth it. After a 6.5 hour journey we arrived just in time for food as the kitchen was just closing, but they kept it open and we were well fed and watered. Polite staff and great food what more could you want?

We had our wedding here last September. The wedding planner was very helpful and replied quickly to any queries we had via telephone and e-mail. Everything was perfect on the day and everyone commented on the food and venue.

Visited for a Birthday party. Big, light and airy room and a good buffet provided. Bar prices were a bit steep though. Grounds were also really nice.

It's in a lovely peaceful spot reached by a signposted narrow land out of Gwernymynydd on the Mold to Ruthin road. The restaurant is first class and the food delicious and well presented. They cater for Gluten Free diets. The gardens are lovely and The Glasshouse restaurant over looks them. We've been several times and it's one of our favourite eating places.
