Very noisy on a Saturday afternoon as it was Mother’s Day weekend and Wales playing at home against France. Despite that - nice pizzas. Dough balls were good. Coke comes in glass bottles so my wife very happy. Service was great. Pizzas are expensive but we used Tesco Clubcard vouchers. That saved the day. We had the burnt ends one. It was lovely.

We know Pizza Express well, but lunch here at Cardiff Bay was the icing on the cake. As well as the usual quality, the friendly service from Anh, Jakub and team was amazing. Anh went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect, really engaging proactively with everyone. Look forward to returning soon.

Lovely views over the bay. Food was delicious and came out hot and fresh. I don’t usually leave reviews for places but our waitress, Ańh went above and beyond. She was super friendly and helpful. was a ray of sunshine!

Unfortunately in the day we went they had actually changed the menu that morning so what we had originally wanted was no longer available. My friend who is a vegan had very limited choices which was disappointing . I had a pasta dish which was ok but some of the pasta was crunchy

Came 1h10 minutes before closing and was ignored by the waitress, she made eye contact with me at least 3 times, until she finally came over to us and proceeded to grab a menu, then we asked if they were still open and she suddenly changed her mind and said no very awkwardly. Customer service lacking unfortunately. If she was up front it would’ve been okay

We made a last minute decision to book an 11:45 lunch at Pizza Express Cardiff Bay (Mermaid Quay) for me, my husband and our 23m old. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly and seated. There were crayons and colouring menus provided for the little one. Baby changing facilities were available and there was the nice touch of a soft changing mat already on the changing table. We had looked at the menu prior to attending and pretty much knew what we wanted to order (and were on a bit of a clock as little one needed her 1pm nap!) We were pleasantly surprised at the availability of waiting staff and caterers, as our order was swiftly taken, and our food arrived promptly too, we managed a two course meal (mains & desserts/coffees), and the little one had a mini 3 course meal (which went down a treat)! All within an hour. Wonderful quick service. Ania our server was really warm, friendly and good with our little one too and considerate with where she put hot plates, as little one was grabbing everything in reach! Delicious food, efficient and considerate service. Highly recommend, and special thanks to everyone who tended to us/cooked for us today! When it came to our bill, we had a QR code for a Tesco Clubcard voucher that I had converted for Pizza Express which Ania swiftly scanned prior to bringing us our bill - everything went so smoothly! Big thanks for the team at Pizza Express Mermaid Quay for our delicious, and timely lunch visit prior to baby’s nap time today! We cannot thank you enough for a great experience! Edit: the baby cutlery in the photo was our own brought from home! Although little one’s food was mainly eaten with fingers anyhow!

When we generally eat in the bay area it's normally a European experience. So going into pizza express was ideal for that requirement or so I thought. After deciding that lasagne would be sufficient we further opted for a garlic bread and a chicken salsa starter. The best thing I can say is that the garlic bread was the most enjoyable. The chicken starter seemed to be undercooked and the lasagne resembled that which you would get from a budget buy meal at a supermarket. Considering the price of a) the starter£6.90 for 3 strips of breaded chicken b) £14.90 for lasagne consisting mainly of tomato paste and bechamel sauce, very little beef to talk about. Although this is pizza express!!!! I had envisaged something that would have enlightened my taste buds. The only saving grace and hence 4# service was the fact that the starter was omitted from the bill. If you're looking for a gastronomic experience you're in the wrong place

I was very disappointed. I was so looking forward to eating here as a birthday treat. Starter's were amazing 👏. Then, it was very long for our pizza. After we were forgotten. Pizza was like something from Aldi. ( admittedly, it was busy) But I expected more.

Absolutely brilliant meal out, Anh is a credit to the company, despite being busy she was attentive friendly and helpful.

We arrived at midday 25 January. The manager met us at the entrance and showed us to a window seat as we requested. Our waitress — Ánh — promptly came to take our orders and recognised us at once from previous visits. It turned out that she was the ONLY waitress on duty, and had to deal with preparing desserts as well as table service: so she was busy throughout our stay, but was still unfailingly cheerful and helpful. We had to wait while other guests were seen too, but as we were not in a hurry that was no problem.

Standard tasty Pizza Express fayre but unfortunately the restaurant was really quiet which meant the staff were on a go slow.

Came here around Christmas time for the light show decided to grap a bite to eat before hand, food was good came out on time even when busy, they only thing what put me off when we ordered our side as well it never came out with our mains, we thought it was just forgotten about but one of the waitress and said “we didn’t forget about it just took awhile for it to come out” in quite a rude tone I work in customer service myself and I would of turned around and said “really sorry about the wait would you like me to box this up for you?” Just feel like there was no need for what she said

Ann (Anne? Or ‘flower lady’) was absolutely FANTASTIC - extremely helpful and cheery, and whoever cooked the pizzas (especially the spicy one) did a fantastic job!!:)

Pleasantly surprised by this place. We checked the outside menu for vegan options and could only see 2, but it said to ask for the vegan menu, which we did, and there were so many options! We got the dough balls, garlic bread and a pizza (the Giardiniera with added Quorn chicken). It was all pretty good (not amazing, but good for a chain pizza shop). The service was really great, she was very attentive and friendly and answered all our questions. Would definitely go back to try some other things.

The food was amazing, offering the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. The staff were so friendly and happy to help, always ready to answer any questions. The atmosphere was really nice, although it was a bit hot inside, and the outdoor seating wasn’t available. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Manager was quite abrupt however she appeared rushed off her feet! I wish she apologised about the wait as we were waiting for around 15- 20 minutes to be seated. Our food arrived at different times but again they were extremely busy, being the Christmas period. The food was absolutely lovely and the service from Duncan was absolutely amazing! Duncan was an absolute pleasure and we are extremely happy to have been served by him! I would definitely go back to the restaurant again purely for the outstanding service from Duncan!

Wish I hadn’t bothered. Decided to treat my daughter to dinner before our show and it was a shambles. We got seated at 415 and still didn’t have any food an hour later. My daughter wanted dessert but we had no time. Service was absolutely appalling I would never go back

Doing the 'Santa' presents delivery run to see family pre-xmas it was a welcome stop to eat here. We hadn't reserved a table, I would guess at peak periods that might be advisable. Seated quickly, we had an attentive waitress who paid wonderful attention to the young people as much as looking after the adults. Great experience. Highly recommended and the food was excellent too by the way 🙂.

We love it here, the staff are friendly, the service is quick and the food is piping hot and very fresh. My favourite thing on the menu is your dough balls. We love to come here and are never disappointed! ANH is a delight and gives fantastic service, she deserves a raise! 11-10 recommend

Lovely meal with the family. Waitress attentive without being too much in your face. She even put a candle in my sons birthday cake as he was 2 on the day which was a nice touch. Will certainly return when in the area.

Me and my partner came by to enjoy the food and atmosphere and was instantly greeted with really kind and great service, we made sure to ask for her name Hannah who always made sure we were attended and overall enhanced the dining experience.

It was my first time at Pizza express. Our waitress Hannah was really sweet and attentive and took her time to explain us how to use the app and rewards and helped us understand the menu better. Definitely one of the best dining experiences. Very quick service and great ambiance.

Upon arrival - on a calm October's evening - having not made a reservation in advance, we were dubious as to whether we would be accommodated for. However, we were promptly guided towards a table which offered the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the restaurant's pleasant atmosphere, and do so in comfort! Without delay, our drinks order was taken, and due to the quiet nature of Wednesday evening dining, and the efficient service provided at Pizza Express, our drinks were with us in no time. It must be remarked that the red wine of choice - 'Marche Rosso' - offered easy drinking, with wild and fruity notes, which well-accompanied the main course. After some consideration, everybody in our party had concluded on a main course of choice, and the order was taken immediately afterwards. Between us, was a - somewhat unornamented, but equally reliably good - margherrita pizza. In the hope of something with a hint of spice, I settled upon the pizza named 'Spicy Giuseppe' - and it failed not to impress. In spite of my peculiar cheese preferences, the pizza was among the best that I have eaten! Finally, was a 'BBQ Burnt Ends' pizza, which, again, met the same standard, and was throughly enjoyed. Soon after the delivery of the pizzas, were we offered chilli and garlic oils, as to complement and enhance the flavours and eating experience of the pizzas. When offered, it was music to my ears, as one who tends to like ensuring a certain burning sensation to the mouth, having eaten a meal containing chilli peppers! After a leisurely meal, it was decided that we would not entertain the idea of dessert, and rather would take a stroll around Mermaid Quay. Prior to doing this, some of our party found it necessary to make use of the conveniences at Pizza Express. Having read of the toilets being described as a 'health hazard' on TripAdvisor, the expectation was not high, however this impression failed to represent the actuality of the facility. Admittedly, the vast majority of the individual toilet suites were out of use, but this only elevated the prestige of accessing the solitary open suite. With ample equiptment [a toilet, a sink, handsoap, and even a handryer], the facility was sufficient for its job; what's more, amusingly, my friend remarked that its mirror and lighting enhanced his muscle tone - so a nice bonus prior to leaving the premises, after a most pleasant meal! To conclude, we were most satisfied with, firstly, the service provided by an extremely friendly and accommodating waiter. With regard to the food, as should be apparent from the preceding comments, it well and truly satisfied our needs, and as for the venue, it offered a more than pleasant atmosphere for dinner with friends! We will most certainly be returning, in the not too distant future!

Greeted and seated nicely even though we hadn’t booked.. however we asked if we could move table as we were in a draft near the door, we were moved and then kept waiting for a long time before getting our pizza… our pizzas were very doughy but we didn’t send them back for fear of another very long wait.. even getting some water was a long wait..there was one waitress who thankfully noticed us her name was Anh Owen and she really made an effort to make the end of our evening better.

Food was lovely, but poor service. Staff seem sad and harassed, came for my son's birthday, didn't feel very celebratory, felt like we were an inconvenience!!

Amazing food was really busy with the concerts on but fair play we got in had our food and was absolutely amazing even our host a little Vietnam lady she was absolutely amazing host really recommend this place

When we arrived we were greeted by the manager who was quite abrupt with us and overall miserable. She told us we weren’t allowed to sit outside despite the almost empty restaurant because only one member of staff was allocated to the outside area. (About 4 tables in the whole restaurant - inside and out - were occupied. About 6 members of staff were in the restaurant) We sat inside despite this and were served by two waitresses who were extremely kind. Unfortunately we didn’t get their names but they really made our experience 10x better despite the bad start.

Staff were lovely and welcoming as soon as we were greeted at the door by gosia right to our time to pay the Bill with Duncan. Zuzanna was also very polite and kind when we faced problems with our food and dealt with our issue professionally and with speed. These 3 staff members I mentioned treated me and my misses to some of the best service this industry has to offer, and if it was up to me I’d give them all a pay rise for making this pizzeria top notch!

Delicious food as always. Was served by a tall gentleman with a red beard, super friendly and catered to our requirements. Beautiful scenery of Cardiff Bay. If you want 2 starters of dough balls, it works out cheaper to get the £9.95 one and it comes with array of dips.

Absolute rubbish!!!! Do not go there.if I could no stars on a review I would. Table of nine including grandchildren. All ordered food, two meals, mine and wife's, never turned up. Waited, asked, watch staff look away and walk past. Finally kids on ice cream deserts when through anger I went to the manager and cancelled the two meals. Had an apology from her and the removal off the bill of the food we never received and that was all they were prepared to do. No wonder pizza express is brinking on bankruptcy. With RUBBISH places in prime sites, inefficient management and staff, it doesn't deserve to survive. Never again will I enter the doors of one and of I were you in the bay, I would not even consider it.

Quick lunch at Pizza express in bay. Kids Piccolo meal, pizza, dough balls and dessert for £7.75. Delicious large pepperoni Romano pizza. Worth downloading app for offers. Had a free side worth £6. Not bad value £25 lunch for two. Enjoyed it. Only negative most of the toilets were out of order.

Considering they were so busy, the food was amazing and had a lot of flavor. Atmosphere with the live music was relaxing and very nice and the waiters/waitresses worked really hard and remained calm throughout their job. Well done!!

As soon as me and my family entered the resturant we felt so welcome and there was a positive energu surrounding everything.The staff are beyond kind and everyone was so understanding and amazing.The toilets couldve been cleaner i wont lie but it was a very busy day so i dont blame that on the staff.The live music gave the resturant a new light and atmosphere as it was entertaining and enjoyable.

My partner and I have been there 3 times now, and our waitress Anya has been nothing short of wonderful. She's a lovely, charismatic individual and despite being really busy (the place was rammed even though it was a Monday) she was attentive and a real joy to have as our waitress. Not only that but as it was my birthday she brought out a dessert for me and the staff sung happy birthday. Nobody asked her to, and she only knew because I had a gift voucher from my brother that same day. Really went the extra mile and we can't wait to go back :) we'd never go to anywhere else now. Plus the food was lovely!

Miserable manager. We brought a large pizza for the kids to eat and Sat outside. One of the kids has allergies so had to get something else. Manager came out and turfed us of the seats even though we paid £17.50 for a pizza. Really dismal service.

Arrived and was seated and ordered. At no point did our server come over to check that everything was okay with our food or offer us more drinks,which was disappointing as my calzone was soaking wet from the spinach that wasn't properly drained abd unedible. We waited, and waited and waited until I decided to find the manageress who was obviously incompetent and just continued to process our payment via a member of staff. Refused to let us eat because we were dressed in motorbike clothing. Never had such a rude experience in Pizza Express before. As a group of 30-40 year old men we've never been refused service, it took us back and left our entire trip with a bad feeling. Would not recommend.

Very sad that we wanted to dine in and we’re sat but no one ever came to take our order after almost 30 minutes. We just ended up leaving.

Our delivery never arrived, we were charged. The uber driver and Pizza Express would not answer the phone to us or explain where our order was or why it never arrived.

On a bbq burnout pizza (this was reccomended to have the most meet on it) had only 3 small pieces of beef. The prawn were anaemic and still in their frozen shape (curley). Also the chef was snaking away at other people's food which makes me believe that's the only reason I had such little beef left on my pizza. Clearly the chef's favourite.

The food is normal pizza express fare, but the service here is consistently underwhelming. It's become a bit of a joke in our household. We've been a few times and the manager is always rude, not over obviously but just does not care about customers or her staff. The staff try really hard but we get the impression that they are really beaten down. We probably wouldn't go if we didn't have vouchers.

Great pizzas and good atmosphere except one older woman who, once we were seated, told us that we had come through the wrong door and couldn’t sit where we were sat! We may have gone through the wrong door but it wasn’t obvious which was the right door and her attitude was rude and obnoxious hence only two stars. Pedantic and rude - no excuse!

Been here a few times and never ever had an issue, but tonight was shocking. Waited 20 mins to be seen for a drink, during that time I could see 6 members of staff all standing by the kitchen. Once order was taken, food was quick and good. No problem with that. Whilst eating seen 2 members of staff take calls on their mobiles in the restaurant. Also seen one eating pizza whilst cutting a customers pizza. Once finished our food, it took 25 mins for a desert menu (we flagged someone down). 10 mins later, a member of staff did apologise about the wait and took our desert order. During this time again, several staff just standing around doing nothing.

Just arrived and asked for a table. Was told they are waiting on bookings. There were at least 10 empty tables. Shocking service. Didn’t offer to accommodate me at all. Told to book and come back in half hour. Front of house needs training in basic customer service skills.

The lady in the reception was not very friendly since the begging, even tough there was a lot of tables free since we arrive, she refused to set a table to us and even after we book a table in the website. Horrible service, will never come back again.

*INFESTED WITH FLIES* Have been a customer here for several years and had several big birthdays/celebrations here etc. In previous visits, we have noticed a higher than normal level of flies but never really thought anything of it: simply putting it down to being near the water and a busy place that may generally have more detritus due to level of custom and therefore attract flies. HOWEVER: having visited tonight for a mid week ‘perk me up’ we were sat by the window immediately as you enter the restaurant. Once again there were a higher level of flies than expected, this time excessively so. After looking down near the window there must have been in excess of 500 flies next to the glass. Literally an infestation, some live and multiple (100s) dead. I really wish I would have photographed this-however, upon seeing this we swiftly left (even after relocating and again being swamped by flies). I feel quite ill to think we’ve eaten here whilst unbeknownst to us the establishment is literally infested with flies. This could be a serious health concern if these flies are making their way into the kitchen (with this level it would be impossible for them not to!!) This seriously needs to be addressed, would advise anyone and everyone to stay WELL CLEAR of this establishment until this is sorted.

always had a positive dine in experience but do not order delivery to your home from here if you need to discuss toppings or allergies after placing your order. no one ever answers the phone, haven’t ever got through to this branch on numerous occasions resulting in not being able to exchange my toppings like i can inside as there are no options on delivering services to take toppings off or to leave a note to do this and you can’t add vegetables on a margherita.

Absolutely wonderful service, on an evening that could have been a disaster! Booked online about a week in advance to have a meal with my family (we were a party of ten) for my son's 8th birthday. First time I tried to book there were no slots available, so I refreshed the screen and booked another time for a little earlier. Little did I realise that after refreshing, the page had defaulted to another Pizza Express in town. I was only made aware of this when me, my partner and son arrived at the restaurant. The rest of my family hadn't arrived yet, and the lovely lady who met us at the door saw the panic in my face and instantly came up with a solution (literally last minute on a Saturday night and Wales had just beaten Italy in rugby!). We were seated at two tables instead of one big table, but this was no problem at all and much appreciated. As we sat down I mentioned it was my son's birthday and that she had saved the day. Later, to our surprise, the staff came out with his dessert, decorated beautifully with a candle and a sparkler while singing happy birthday, and what seemed like the whole restaurant joined in to sing. It was such a special moment! I'm really sorry I didn't get their names, but the lady at front of house and our waitress were absolutely fantastic. And the chefs did a brilliant job, too. Thank-you!!
