The coffee here is bean to cup and the quality shows - it is excellent coffee. Also the cakes were delicious. A really good coffee stop on our walk.

Mrs M and I have been coming here for years. We set off on an early walk and go for braekafast. Mrs M says I have to comment that the bacon is cooked to perfection and they probably make the finest egg and bacon barm in the world. However, and E&B comes second to the kipper barm. If there was a heaven, these would be there. The cherry on the top is that they are really nice people who work very hard. I had tears in my eyes when I read the couple of negative reviews and had more tears when I saw that Andy had not only taken the trouble to respond but offered them free drinks if they returned. That said it's that the vast majority give them a well deserved 5 stars

After the coastal walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh castle we were feeling peckish and thirsty. Opposite the tourist information and at the bottom of Quarry car park we de idea to try Pipers Pitch. We opted for a cup of tea, a latte and 2 banana and toffee muffins { Andy didn’t have time to make any scones}. The muffins were the best we have tasted, moist and plenty of flavour. We were lucky to have got there when we did as a massive queue was forming as we ate.A very popular place with very reasonable prices and an extensive menu.Friendly people who have time for a chat as well as working.Definitely a place to visit.

Hidden away on the edge of Craster, opposite the tourist information centre and next to the car park, is a fixed wooden stall serving exceptional snack lunches. While most visitors head for the pubs and cafés overlooking the sea, those of us who want something a bit different head for Pipers Pitch. You can get traditional fare, but my wife and I went for the Auchtermuchty, a large roll stuffed with back bacon and haggis, optionally seasoned with tomato chilli sauce. It was more than enough for me. A real treat. Everything is served fresh, so you have to wait a while. They give you a numbered bleeper to call you when the food is nearly ready. When you return, your order is assembled so that it is piping hot when you receive it.After finishing it, we returned for hot drinks. It was better than most you would get in a specialist coffee tea shop. You can even get it in a mug if you don’t need to take it away. For the size and the quality of what you get, it is great value. Most of all your fare is served by people who clearly enjoy what they are doing. We found it on Trip Advisor and two fellow travellers also recommended it. But despite having our expectations raised, it was still a treat.

So now I know why it's called Piper's Pitch! We are regulars for Andy's fantastic kipper buns and crab sandwiches but today we rocked up for my birthday with my family. I'd checked that it was OK to bring some prosecco. We were just tucking in when we heard the sound of bagpipes warming up and Andy appeared playing Happy Birthday. Above and beyond the call of duty! A fabulous treat in a favourite place. Brilliant

Before heading out on holiday we looked up the highlights of the area. The Auchtermuchty sandwich at Pipers pitch in Craster was at the top of the list; right up there with their Kipper n Bun. The kippers from the famous Craster Kipper production in the village hit you with their aroma as they are grilled and make your mouth water. The taste is many times more lovely than the smell - you just can't beat kippers, bread and butter. Having said that, the Auchtermuchty Roll (haggis and bacon) with the Rothbury Rager relish is the most sublime bit of Haggis I've ever tasted and for me just pips the Kipper n Bun.I have to mention that the lovely gentleman who cooked our brilliant breakfast was welcoming and friendly and, although advertised to open at 10am was happy to begin cooking for us at 9.30am. Thank you for both the food and the conversation. It was definitely worth the trip from South Devon to visit with you.Ps the coffee was great too, he even had oat milk for my coffee preferences.

Started out a very good food day in Craster and then along to the Ship Inn. Had parked in the field before the village and received a voucher we could use here so stopped off on the way into town. Spotted the queue and hoped we were on to a winner, which I knew we were once the kipper sandwiches were ready! Warm and just the right level of salty - I would've had a second if I could have managed it.

Decided to go for a late breakfast before having a look around Craster, paid our £3 parking fee which I noticed many were complaining about it being cash payments and that signal in the area makes it impossible to pay online, we always make sure we have a cash back up in the car just in case, but I think the owner of Piper’s Pitch was good for giving advice to the many! We ordered our butties, one kipper sandwich, one sausage, mushroom and egg, one bacon and one sausage and bacon, no payment was taken until the food and drinks were ready and our buzzer let us know to go collect it, approximately £20 for 4 breakfast butties and drinks. The square sausage was very good, a hint of pepper gave it a kick and made it more interesting than a traditional sausage, my Dad loved the kippers and would definitely go back given the opportunity, shame we. Would have a 3 hour drive to return! The guy in the hut was really welcoming and friendly, chatted away with genuine interest in where we were from. The area gets very busy by lunchtime and parking seemed to be limited, go early to avoid the queues and crowds. Coaster is a quaint little village with good paths to walk to Dunstanburgh Castle, great views too. We will definitely return.

Without the friendly team at the Piper’s Pitch many hopeful tourists to Craster would be very frustrated. The parking fee payment arrangements (presumably overseen by the local council) are poor /antiquated. The WiFi provided FOC by the team at Piper’s Pitch was the only way to access the car park payment website. WiFi provided by council in the same spot was so slow that it proved impossible to pay on the suggested app. Thank you to Piper’s Pitch and what lovely coffee too. Having visited Dunstanburgh castle the last morning of our holiday, the weather turned on us and rain soaked us through. All I could think about on the walk back to our car, as the rain punched me continually in the face, was - that Pipers Pitch best make a good brew. After changing my pants in the car (needs must), we got there before the rush. For a small pitch they had a very hearty menu. I ordered a cheeseburger and a coffee - real cheese, giant burger. Cannot find fault with this venue which is why on our annual visit to Embleton we ensure at least 3 lunchtime visits during our weeks stay and have done for the past 5 years. Andy and Lorna are warm and friendly hosts, who offer excellent food cooked to order. For me and my good lady, it has to be the Autermuchty sandwich, a massive meal of haggis and bacon in a breadcake/bap or whatever it's called depending on region. At just £4 is has to be an absolute bargain. Also on offer is a homemade scone, after my first time trying one today back at the cottage, Andy is pretty good at baking as well as cooking. Have to say it would have gone down even better with a mug of Lorna's excellent brew of tea though.

We visited Craster recently while staying in Beadnell for a walk to the castle and on our way back, my husband and I stopped here for a kipper in a bun each and we loved them! They were absolutely delicious and we were given the skins for our dogs too. We chatted to Andy the whole time while waiting and what a great guy. He’s so friendly and is now very much part of our day in Craster. Thank you for the lovely chats and delicious food. We’ll see you next time! Best wishes, Caroline, Cameron, baby Blake, Poppy dog & Steven dog.

We have visited the Pipers Pitch on many occasions even going out of our way to stop off when travelling through Northumberland. The food is first class and you are always greeted with by warm and friendly hosts. We would recommend stopping off here for a snack and a chat whenever possible. Auchtermuchty!!!!

We parked up in the main car park and walked an 8 mile loop, and although we had a quick sandwich half way around we couldn't resist taking advantage of Pipers Pitch which was surprisingly open for this time of year.Had a good natter with the owner whilst he was cooking our food, of course the delicious Auchtermuchty for me, and a bacon, eggs and mushroom for my wife. Flipping amazing food.

I keep meaning to review this as it is one my favourite places to come when in Northumberland. No trip would really be complete without a trip to Piper’s Pitch. My family all feel the same. A bacon and egg sandwich (or add the sausage patty as well in my girlfriend’s case) and a cup of coffee before a walk is ideal. The quality of the food is great, the bacon is exceptional and you can guarantee a friendly host who is passionate about his business.

I came here on New Year’s Day last year and just decided out of the blue to have my first kipper from this stall. It was- genuinely- the most beautiful thing I have ever eaten. I had another today and it was just as nice. My brother had an Auchtermuchty (bacon and haggis) bun as well and said it was equally nice. Don’t miss it if you holiday here.

Discovered Piper's Pitch by accident while looking for somewhere to buy breakfast and what a fantastic find !!!. The food is delicious and served with a smile. The owner is really friendly, a true Scots gent. We can recommend the Auchtermuchty (haggis and bacon in a bread bun) it is absolutely delicious and sets you up for the day. Will definitely visit again when we are next in the area.

Just called for a snack, coffee, tea and scones. Very acceptable and wholesome. It satisfied our needs at the time, after returning from a nice walk on a hot day and being adjacent to the main car park in Craster . September 2019.

All the reviews I have seen rate this stand highly, and I do as well. The kipper bap was a treat: perhaps an option for a brown bap might be considered? The couple running the stall were full of good humour, and the proper tea in a mug was the best I have had in a long time!

Dave visited here with our visitors after a walk to see Dunstanburgh castle and back. The sandwiches, one bacon and two sausage and bacon were lovely as were the staff and drinks. A welcome break.

Had a week in Northumberland and bought breakfast here twice. The first was a beautiful kipper in a bun which was so delicious and made a really nice change. Then on the last day I had a square sausage bap which was satisfying and perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend tried the world-famous Auchtermuchty which is a Scottish specialty of bacon and haggis in a bap. That was so generously filled and really tasty. Perfect for filling up before a big walk! The prices are extremely good value considering the quantity and quality of food too!

Ate here quite late in the afternoon when hunger suddenly struck while out with the dogs. Had the sausage sarnie and it was delicious. Two square sausage patties, very well cooked and lovely flavour. Great service even though it was close to closing time. Will be a regular stop on dog walks in Craster from now on !

Tea on the Train is situated in a railway carriage at Bellingham station car park, by the Heritage Centre. It is a vey smart inter-city carriage (ex LNER) and is rather plush. They have a decent menu of hot and cold snacks as well as cakes etc. We simply had tea and scones which were perfect, as was the service which was lovely. This is an unusual and very smart tearoom - we will certainly use it again.

The service is cheerful and good and there's always space found for one more even when the place seems full. There are regulars who make people, who come for the first tme, very welcome. The food is incredibly good and reasonably priced. For anyone who cannot afford to pay for meals, there is a fabulus bowl of broth with a bun. Everyone is welcome and tea, coffee and biscuits are provided for whatever donation you feel like giving.
