Pinocchio's in Canterbury

The service was very attentive and we were on the whole enjoyed our meal. Unfortunately my squid starter was rather rubbery. However my main of prawn linguine was excellent. The opposite for my partner who loved his prawn starter but found his main gnocchi not so good. Wine was good and a very nice ambience with lovely music!

Set in smallish restaurant which made for good ambience. Service was very good and food was so lovely. Had the prawns with linguine for the main which was so delicious. Good Pinot Grigio wine too. Will be back

We visited for our wedding anniversary and really enjoyed the experience. - Great drinks recommendations - the server was able to give local tips from where he lived in Italy which was a lovely touch- The food was really well put together - the garlic pizza bread base was very well made and the pasta was cooked to perfection (soggy pasta is a big NO for me!)!- The puddings we tried were both delicious (a lemon cake/tart and the tiramisu) - tasted amazing and looked homely - we were told all puddings were made in-house and both of ours were lovely- No automatic service charge was added to the bill

Wow! We have missed 4 Italian holidays in the past 18 months… we should have been in Sicily this last week!So we came to Canterbury instead and visited this restaurant based on the reviews. Oh My God it was actually like being in Italy! The welcome was so friendly, even the quirky building was like Italy…every single member of staff was so friendly and helpful and just so nice! The food was stunningly good… proper Italian food… simple fresh ingredients..just delicious. We had an amazing time… buonissimo .. this is a really great AUTHENTIC restaurant…. Forget the ‘italian’ chain restaurants.. this is real Italy. Fabulous people, fabulous food.. grazie mille!

Not been here for a couple of years due to Covid & not living locally but was pleased to find it just as good as previously. We met a friend on Friday evening & just had a couple of starters each rather than a main course. This was no problem at all & all were delicious. We met other friends here on Saturday lunch & again everything was fabulous. I can definitely recommend the mussels starter, prawns in garlic sauce & aubergine starter. The wine is good & prices are reasonable.The staff are really helpful & friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them, even though we were the last to leave we didn’t feel rushed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant & We will certainly return next time we visit Canterbury.

I ate here recently with friends on a Saturday evening. There's a good range of Italian dishes on the menu, prices are reasonable and the food is good quality. Service was friendly and efficient.

The food was wonderful, lovely atmosphere and attentive service with helpful recommendations as to wine pairings with food. All in all the best evening and would recommend!

Food here is below average and service is provided by kids. Plates give the impression of little thought and effort. Salads for example are lambs lettuce and tomato . We had a tuna steak special which wasn’t special at all. Dry fried and served with the above mentioned salad and so called Italian roast potatoes . Only they aren’t , they’re just roast potatoes. Pizza bases are thick ( not Italian ) and ice cream tasted like carte d’or : certainly not home made. Highlight of the evening was the young girl serving us managing to explode a bottle of Prosecco over the table ( apologies but no replacement offered ).Do yourself a favour and get over to the Italian rated second in Canterbury on this list. Food and service great. Very authentic.

Words cannot do this place justice. We have travelled the world, worked abroad and had lots of Italian food. This place tops them all. Beautifully tasty food in a traditional Italian setting. The owner could not do enough for you, he was friendly and extremely welcoming. The food was fresh, flavoursome and well presented. This is a meal and a culinary experience we will never forget! Thank you so much - we will be back.

After reading all of the amazing reviews we were very much looking forwards to eating here. Unfortunately it was just ok. There isnt anything terrible about the place, the food is ok but it wasn't anything special either. We had the calzone and the pasta with italian sausage and aubergine. To be honest we've had better calzones at Prezzo. We stayed roughly about an hour and twice someone from the kitchen came out to the front of house staff to reprimand them which seemed a bit off in front of customers - to the point of where another customer checked on a waitress to see if she had just got in trouble. We were waited on by a young lady who was very very good, really cheery, very helpful, probably the best member of staff we interacted with but all of the other staff members seemed to keep explaining that she was new and being a bit down on her. She was really good! I actually felt sorry for the poor girl. We wouldn't come back.

Fantastic food in a great setting with lovely staff. We booked for lunch & needed a menu with gluten free options for my daughter. All the pizzas can be done with gluten free bases and all sauces can be served with GF pasta. Starters were garlic bread for the girls, a homemade chicken liver pate with chutney for me, and olives & bread for hubby. For mains one daughter had gnocchi with cheese ragu sauce, 2 of us had a gorgeous sausage & aubergine sauce on pasta (with a beautiful subtle hint of fennel), and the husband had gnocchi with a gorgonzola & sausage sauce. They were all GORGEOUS! Perfect portions too. Lovely relaxed but attentive staff, quiet music, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

The food was magnificent. So tasty. I went there last night with my partner. He said it was the best Calzone he’s ever had and he’s had many and I had the tagliatelle bolognese. That too was indeed wonderful. The restaurant staff were lovely. Everything here was perfectly done and the ambience was nice too. We will be recommending this restaurant to everyone we know and will be returning hopefully with friends next Time. Really nice authentic home cooked Italian food. What a great night

This was a little walk from where we were staying and the outisde doesnt do it justice. When we arrived the heat inside was like being in Italy but the staff did kindly open some windows when asked (I'm surprised there didnt need to be more air flow already with Covid). The starters (prawns/olives) were nice as were the desserts (lemom came/creme brulee)...as described on the menu but I would say just as you would expect HOWEVER the mains were the best I've ever had. The homemade gnocci was out of this world!The staff were friendly and attentive although had to be asked for more drinks a few times rather than being the ones offering but the place was full so its not surprising. Considering, they did a great job.I would recommend for anyone visiting!

My wife & I visited on Thurs 3rd June at 19:30 having booked via the website 24 hours before. We were seated on arrival & ordered drinks - I had Graspello Rosso 250ml £7.95 and my wife had a small Prosecco bottle £8.95 Still water was free.Starters - I had Calamari Fritti £8.95 and my wife had Gamberoni Vino Bianco £8.50 - these were very good and well enjoyed.Mains - We shared a Pizza Gourmet - this was very nice and was enough for the two of us. Dessert - I had a Limoncello £4.50 . Total cost was £52.80. Service was good throughout. We would recommend Pinocchio's for your visit.I hope you find my review helpful!

Our original booking at another restaurant in Canterbury was moved to another night and so happy that we found this lovely restaurant to eat at short notice. The service was impeccable, the staff were so happy to be back in business and their enthusiasm was so infectious, we had such a lovely evening. The food was delicious, very reasonable for the two of us and a great find. Definitely recommend to any one visiting Canterbury.

It doesn't cost much to provide white table cloths and proper linen napkins but it makes all the difference. At Pinocchio's they have both. Then there's the brilliant service and great food at reasonable prices. This was by far the best place we found to eat in Canterbury. If we had found it first we would not have gone anywhere else.

We booked the restaurant as part of a short break to Canterbury and Howletts zoo. We were welcomed by friendly staff and enjoyed a delicious meal with family friendly portion options and gluten free choices including a scrumptious lemon cake dessert. We were even given a pizza box for the pizza we didn't have room for and this tasted delicious for lunch the next day . Lovely atmosphere - a breath of fresh air for our first meal out after 10 months!

For us this is the best place to eat in Canterbury. Visited on 28 May for lunch. We enjoyed two authentic freshly made pizzas (recommend the Vesuvio) along with the prawn linguine (wonderful freshly made pasta), as well as a fine selection of starters- the aubergine, and the calamari were particularly good. All the food is freshly made and cooked, so they were happy to amend part of our order from the menu to suit us.The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, strongly recommend

We cannot praise the lovely staff at Pinocchio's enough. They made us feel so welcome and safe and were really flexible to accommodate our dietary needs. They even made our son a Carbonara off the menu. The food was outstanding- we wanted their garlic pizza bread to last forever. The spaghetti and meatballs were succulent, the gnocchi drlicious (made vegan especially for our other son) and the saffron and mushroom risotto a creamy medley of flavours. For pudding we enjoyed the nutella pizza, white chocolate creme brulee and tiramisu. The friendly unpretentious vibe was coupled with perfect service and we liked the classiness of the crisp white linen. This is clearly a local gem- perfect Italian hospitality with a reasonable price tag.

Gorgeous food, very authentically Italian . Every course was amazing, a true hidden gem. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating, cannot praise this place enough! 10/10

We normally visit the restaurant and have always had a fantastic meal and good service. While having a break in Canterbury before restaurants reopened we ordered a takeaway and this was fantastic. The only only warm takeaway we have had since Covid 19. Thank you Pinnochios for making my 2 boys very happy as they have missed coming tonthe restaurant.

We were hoping to eat here when lockdown stopped us, so we ordered from the takeaway menu instead. Lovely authentic Italian food from a friendly family-run restaurant. They even specially made my daughter's favourite lasagne even though it wasn't on the menu. Can't wait to go back when they are open!

Very good covid measures with plastic screens separating tables and good facemask enforcement. The food was excellent, with one of the most attentive waitresses we’ve had in a while. It was a nice and relaxed atmosphere with nice background music playing.

Creo que esta es mi segunda reseña de Pinocchios en Canterbury. El restaurante está un poco fuera de lo común en Canterbury, pero vale la pena visitarlo. La comida siempre se siente muy tradicional y casera. En esta visita el personal y la comida fue muy buena, mi única crítica fue que la lechuga que venía con los calamares había visto mejores días (bordes marrones). No puede ser fácil para ninguno de estos restaurantes en este momento, sin saber a cuántas personas atender y cuánta comida comprar. En general, es un buen restaurante y bien merece una visita si estás en Canterbury.

We had sea food and gnocchi and sides of salad and vegetables and it was all delicious, speedily delivered, and the restaurant itself is super cosy and inviting, and they've done amazing work to make you feel COVID secure whilst dining.

Our son has moved to Canterbury and wanted to take him out for a meal. Other favourites fully booked so booked a table on line. Absolutely fantastic food and staff. So welcoming. Definitely will be coming back again as I think this is our new favourite restaurant in Canterbury. We’re hard to please as a few of us come from chef backgrounds and are hardcore foodies, and this place didn’t disappoint at all. The staff made the place feel like home, and you’d be silly not to try it.

I bought a gift voucher for my parents last Christmas, unfortunately due to lockdown etc. They were not able to use it. They still have to shield due to health reasons. Usually the gift vouchers are for use for eating in however i explained the circumstances and we were able to use it for takeaway.The food as always was excellent, the service was brilliant with friendly staff. Highly recommended restaurant. Delicious and authentic Italian food. Will definitely be ordering again!

Nice place friendly staff. But was surprised at how basic the food was. At a restaurant you want to feel like the food is special, something you could not easily whip up at home in 30mins. The chicken with mushroom sauce is the most basic dish worth £5 max to make and tastes like it should be that price.

Really feel the owners here should be applauded for the efforts they’ve gone to to make the restaurant feel safe - hand sanitiser, screenings around tables, staff are wearing ppe - and yet they’ve still managed to maintain a cozy, pleasant atmosphere. Super friendly, helpful staff and lovely food.

It was the 1st time we’d been out for a meal since this madness started but from the phone call to the time we finished our deserts, the service was friendly and thoughtful, the whole Resturant was screened off so each seated space was secure for each couple/ group.The food was delicious and the service was great too. We were a little jumpy but our service agent offered to allow us to order via a phone call (offered us a card with a specific number so he didn’t have to come to the table - we declined as he was wearing a face shield). If you want to go out to a nice Italian Resturant and cannot sit outside, I would recommend going here. Great food, good considerate service and reasonably priced too!

I have been to Pinocchios several times over the last few years and they have never disappointed me! The food is incredible, the staff are always so welcoming and lovely - I can’t fault the place. Went to celebrate the end of my degree and our waitress was really helpful about which food items didn’t have dairy in them, she was wonderful. They have measures in place for social distancing, too.

Wonderful meal on a wet Sunday afternoon . We booked say before and took our son whilst visiting Canterbury . We had a gorgeous meal . Garlic prawns for stater then perfect pasta , the Italian sausage and Aubergine tagliatelle was amazing . Super service and were able to easily accommodate my sons Peanut allergy . Good wine and friendly staff , couldn’t ask for more . Excellent covid preparation and we felt safe and well looked after . We will return one day !

Wonderful evening with friends, great ambience and lovely to see freshly pressed tablecloths and linen napkins. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food delicious! We all ordered from the daily specials including the scallop starter - Delicious! Friends also enjoyed the fish cakes, gnocchi and parmigiana - all homemade! Finished off with the lemon caprese, not needed but impossible to resist. Can’t wait to return

Went for dinner with friends on a Thursday evening & were surprised how many tables were occupied early evening.The food was excellent & our waitress’s friendly & efficient. Our friends both chose the scallop starter which they said was lovely & light. Three of our party had the veal tagliatelle from the specials board. It had a sauce that was rich in flavour but the pasta was still al-dente. Delicious. My husband polished off the chicken mamma mia with roast potatoes. The portion size was perfect without over facing you, which meant we managed to share a tiramisu, washed down with a bottle of Chianti. Now we’ve discovered Pinocchio’s we will certainly be back next time we visit Canterbury.

The food was exceptional - proper Italian cuisine true, rich and delicious. Could not fault the food! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to enjoy it all together as one of our starters was missing and the mains came sporadically. There was clearly a row from the kitchen for the whole restaurant to hear and we had to keep flagging attention to order extra drinks. They were very friendly and accommodating though for the young child we had in the party so that was a big plus!We were the first seating of the evening so it wasn’t busy yet and we felt very let down. The food was very good so we may try again.

I was in the end disappointed with our Valentines meal. The tables were close together to fit at many customers in. Our table had to have a wedge to stop it rocking. My wife chose the main chicken dish while I had one of the specials that evening Tagliatelle. The portions were small although I did enjoy the food, I had a large glass of Nero di Troia and my wife and I also shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio Veneto. The final bill with a small tip came to £70. We wont visit again.

Last week, we visited Pinocchio around closing time. Despite the closing time, the staff was really helpful and friendly. Me, my boyfriend and my friend visited the restaurant, which we live just across this lovely restaurant on a quiet road. It was a great experience, food was amazing (we ordered king prawns as a starter, which I believe that It was the best prawn that we have ever had!!! but beware of the garlic smell, it's going to stay in your body :P ). The main food was amazing which my friend decided to order the "dish of the day", it was so tasty!!! I highly recommend this restaurant!!

We arived late but were welcomed, and served with a freindly welcome taking them well past there closing time, the food and service wereboth excellent.

Visited twice whilst we were in Canterbury. Once for lunch, once for an early dinner. We used to visit this restaurant 10+ years ago and it was one of our favourites then. Still excellent food, will return.

We visited Canterbury for the weekend to do some shopping. We found the restaurant on the net and read the reviews. We can only say that it has the best Italian food that we had since we visited Gaeta, Italy in 2004. Very friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks again.

Great Italian pasta and dessert! Had Linguine Mare and Tiramisu and both of them were delicious. Ingredients used were very fresh and that's the key to produce tasty food. Service from the staff was excellent as well. Lovely time spent at Pinocchio's.

Hoy, fue mi cena de graduación y el restaurante fue más que hospitalario con los 8 alborotadores que habían viajado 7 horas desde Blackpool. La comida era impecable, el personal era perfeccionista; ¡incluida la gerente / camarera principal con cabello rubio que nos habló a través de los especiales con tanta pasión que no pudieron ser ignorados! El chef salió a saludar y fue tan maravilloso como su comida. Me sentí parte de la familia! Fantástico servicio y personal fantástico que hizo que mi noche en Canterbury valiera la pena. Mis amigos reservaron una mesa para celebrar mi cumpleaños este año y, sinceramente, no puedo calificarlo lo suficiente. Nuestra comida fue absolutamente increíble, la mozzarella más cremosa para mi entrante y los ñoquis más frescos que he probado en mucho tiempo. El vino y los cócteles eran encantadores (¡toma un espresso martini!) Y todo tenía un precio muy razonable.

Moved away from Canterbury a few years ago and came back for the weekend to visit Pinocchio’s. Still the same excellent atmosphere and food and truly memorable evening drinking Limoncello with Massimo and Dee the owners. Highly recommended for an evening with friends and family.

Este lugar es simplemente el mejor. La gestión familiar es mucho mejor que las cadenas. Siempre muy amigable. El ambiente siempre es encantador. Y la comida. . . . . simplemente asombroso. Hemos estado varias veces ahora y teníamos todas las cosas diferentes en el menú. Las pizzas son perfectas. ¡El iniciador de berenjena es para morirse! Aproximadamente a 5 minutos a pie del centro de la ciudad, pero vale la pena. No podría calificar este lugar lo suficientemente alto. Bien hecho a todos los que participaron.

Last minute recomendation led us to this jewel of an Italian restaurant. Food was great quality & cooked to perfection, atmosphere was intimate, staff were attentive, absolutly fell in love with the place

We went there following our airbnb hosts' recommendation, and it was worth the visit. Delicious food in a quiet ambience. Very friendly staff too (it's a family-run restaurant, and the cook is Italian himself). We'd definitely go back there.

Set away from the city centre - no bad thing - this is a gem of a place. We arrived rather early, but by the time we left, it had filled up nicely. I had one of the "Specials" which was a completely delicious beef & Italian sausage Ragu, with homemade tagliatelle. Husband had a homemade pizza with the addition of some chilli oil - also homemade and 'hot'!!! (We were warned!).

We had spotted this restuarant earlier in the day and promised ourselves a visit.although only 5 mins from the cathedral it is on the fringe of the city centre hence it is not open every night and tends to close a littel earlier than we expected.Arriving at about 8.30 we were disapointed to be told last new entries had been accepted ,however having rechecked with the chef we were invited in and made welcome.. not the cheapest but we had classic Italian food and wine and would happily return

We visited this restaurant with our friends and we had three young girls with us. The restaurant were so accommodating with the choices for the children and also great with suggestions for vege options. The atmosphere was lovely and food superb. Fantastic dinner experience :)

Having been recommended this restaurant for fine traditional home made Italian food, it certainly was not. Pizza base stodgy and not thin, a significant mass of chopped, not shaved, supposed Parmesan on top and also all over accompanying sparse salad with a totally overpowering and poor taste. Vongole sloppy with pasta certainly not home produced as would have expected, and surprisingly, an extra cost for accompanying bread.

We had been naughty & had a couple of drinks & a light lunch so were not famished when we arrived at 5.30 for Fillet Steak on Rocket with an excellent Bbarolo.Excellent food & wine,friendly staff & very attentive. Will come again when we next visit.

The servers seemed to enjoy themselves but were difficult to attract. Our group of four had a variety of appetizers and mains but none of them were above average.

My husband and I went for an evening out without the kids. I decided I wanted to try my first steak out and I wasn’t disappointed! Cocktails were beautiful, food was spot on and although a tiny bit pricey, it was totally worth it and ok for the odd treat. Staff were so helpful with genuine advice and all round friendliness. Highly recommend~lots of easy parking near by.

We were in Canterbury to see Jools Holland at the Marlowe as a birthday treat for my Sister. We had booked the Castle Hotel ( separate review) and were looking for a restaurant on the route where we could eat early- not keen on the chains of which there are many in Canterbury. ! Having looked at on-line reviews I thought this looked a good possibility so booked on their website explaining we needed an early table.

I tend not to care for Italian cuisine in Britain due to the way flavours are muted. Pinocchio's is an exception. I rate it highly, perhaps placing the taste of the food in the same sphere as Canto Corvino (London); though the latter has a different atmosphere and dining experience. Pinocchio's is more of the kind of dining experience you might expect in a small town or city in Italy -- a family-run feel to things. The dishes are well prepared and have a range of flavours.

Amazing authentic Italian food - every dish was delicious and filled with flavour. The atmosphere was excellent with really attentive, welcoming staff who genuinely care! If we ever return to Canterbury, this is the first place that we would go to!

Estuve aquí hace un par de semanas con mi esposa y todo fue encantador. Leímos en Internet lo único bueno de este lugar, así que decidimos probarlo. Authentic Italian food. Although the restaurant was almost empty, it still had atmosphere and we ended up inviting another table guest to join us. It's a little off the beaten track but well worth a visit.

Di solito all'estero evito pizzerie e ristoranti italiani, perché sono, solitamente, scadenti imitazioni. Questa volta la sorpresa è stata piacevolissima. Cuoco e proprietario è Massimo, napoletano verace, capace di fritti leggeri, croccanti e saporiti. Cucina con sapienza sia pesce che carne, specialmente il primo dove calamari, polpette di branzino, steak di tonno la fanno da padrone.
