Pigs Ears Beer Cellar in Richmond upon Thames

Well, we were here today for a Mothers Day lunch. We’d been a couple of years ago and it’s been decorated since then. It looks much better. We looked at some of the meals been served nearby and they all looked decidedly underwhelming and a bit “ greasy spoon cafe”. So, undeterred we thought we’d play it safe. We just ordered mains. One daughter had the mussels and my wife, myself and our other daughter had the roast chicken. The chicken was really nice but the vegetables were overdone, the Yorkshire pudding was a limp sponge and my roast potatoes looked like boiled ones. Having said all that I did polish everything off and it was quite tasty. Jess said her mussel sauce was a bit bland and the portion was small for a main course. As for the positives: the wine was good, my gluten free beers were great, our cocktails (quite a few of them) were very good and so was my coffee. But everything took an age to come out of the kitchen and one of the blokes bringing it out looked like he’d been sleeping in a duvet in the nearest bus shelter. Our waiter, the only English chap, was excellent but he had to keep apologising for the slow service. For Richmond, the prices were not bad and we actually had a very nice time - but then we are a family that gets on and pretty much always have a good time when we are out. In essence, it’s a good place in some ways but a gastro pub it is not.

Not the best dining out experience. Firstly the place was cold, no warmth of atmosphere. The ladies toilets were dirty and I brought this to the attention of the staff. Avoid the mussels dish as it is a main meal the size of a starter and we complained about this, with zero feedback from the management - not the greatest way to run a business!!! Just very disappointing !

First the good - The bar area and some parts of the restaurant looked good and had a cosy ambience, although the whole place is much smaller than the photos suggest. We had a Marge pizza and a Pepperoni Overload pizza. Both were nice and cheesy with fresh bases. My husband's one wasn't exactly overloaded, just a regular pepperoni pizza. Now the not so good - My mocktail was a rip-off. £6 for a small glass that was completely filled with ice, and the drink filling the remaining space. We booked a table in restaurant area B as the website wouldn't let us book area A. However, area B is at the back by the toilets and does not have lovely decor or ambience. We asked if we could move to the nicer area where there were 2 empty tables, but were told that the tables were booked, despite nobody turning up to sit at them while we were there. Our waiter found us a table in the bar area, although the manager didn't look happy about it. Overall, not quite the experience we had been hoping for. Food was good, but I don't think we'll be back.

We booked a table for 7 friends to enjoy drinks and the live music and it didn’t disappoint! We had a fabulous evening, singing along to great songs and enjoying the fun atmosphere. Lovely espresso martinis, craft beers and red wine helped! Would definitely recommend for a group who want a lively evening.

We went here for dinner on a Friday night when visiting Richmond, glad we booked a table as it was so busy. It's got a great atmosphere, and the staff are lovely. Had the sweetcorn fritter to start and then the chicken shish, all our food was brilliant. We had a few beers and some nice wine too. Overall was a great night and we can't wait to go back.

We were impressed with our evening meal here. Excellent service, good menu and tasty food. Great choice of craft beers. Portion size was on the larger side for us, or perhaps we over ordered! Looking forward to heading back next time we are in Richmond!

The amazing staff here provided an outstanding level of service at my brother’s wedding yesterday. The venue was beautifully presented, the food was delicious, and what made the wedding even more special was the fantastic team who worked brilliantly to ensure everyone had a wonderful time. All the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves working there, happily serving drinks and food, checking that everyone had what they needed and going out of their way to enhance the fun and joyful atmosphere of the event. So many guests commented on how superb the venue and team were, and their great attitude and hard work was most appreciated.

My partner and I, who are slightly difficult foodies, regularly enjoy dining at the Richmond Vault. We love their delicious menu, fun atmosphere and super friendly staff. Recently, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was in desperate need of a last minute venue for my birthday party. In less than a week, the staff at the Richmond Vault helped us pull off a successful birthday party for just under 20 people. Along with the manager, the floor manager, and the chef, they cornered off an area of the restaurant downstairs just for us, put together a super delicious and dietary diverse canapé buffet-style menu (at a very reasonable price per head), allowed us to bring in a birthday cake from an outside caterer, were attentive to and served our guests well all evening, managed the open tab seamlessly and professionally... and all of this with friendliness and smiles from A to Z! These guys went the extra mile! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner out in Richmond or for anyone looking for a place to have a small party of any kind. A beautifully cool bar on a hot summer's evening. The recent renovation has been well done, and the decor is bright and modern. Friendly staff and a very good vibe. I'm looking forward to trying the food soon.

The meal was very nice with decent portion sizes and there was a good selection of beers. The staff were great, really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. They had live music from Conor Clarke who was amazing and instead of moving on after our meal we stayed until it closed!

Went for my other halves birthday. We have been several times before and were keen to go back after the refurbishment On arrival we were taken to our table which was on the lowest level, right next to the kitchen, toilets and several beer barrels! We were not happy with the table position and joked with our server that this was the worst table in the restaurant, which he agreed was true! Ordered our drinks and as they were delivered our server told us he had found us a new table upstairs. He carried our drinks to the new table which was located in the bar area and close to the live music (much better). The manager came to apologise and all servers who brought our food and drinks for the rest of the evening apologised for our poor experience. We also received a complimentary birthday pudding which was an unexpected delight. We had a fantastic evening, food was excellent and the customer service that we received from all of the staff was first class. Well done everyone and thank you. We will definitely be back.

I have been here numerous times prior to the refurb. I preferred the previous menu when it was more a bar that served great food rather than a restaurant that serves good beer. That being said the food was of a high quality and the portions were enormous. The mezze starter was magnificent. Service was excellent. The experience overall was very good, i just preferred the previous menu.

Called in 18.00 last night pre theatre for the first time since refurb. Quirky, stylish & very comfortable inside. The staff are really friendly and efficient. The menu is also welcome as it does step away from the usual run of the mill offer. Food is excellent in both quality & quantity.

Our first meal out since March and it just had to be Richmond Vaults. Yet another perfect meal. Hearty, mouthwatering portions - the meat fell off the bone. Especially recommend the lamb shank. Of course the beers are fantastic, as is to be expected, but the cocktails are delicious too. Attentive, kind, friendly staff who were kitted out in PPE and very careful not to cross contaminate etc by washing hands and changing gloves between serving each table. There was even individual bottles of hand sanitiser on each table, which was a nice touch. We frequent many restaurants in the local area and this is far and away our favourite. Big thank to you to all the team yet again.

My son booked this restaurant for my Birthday , six of us all ages and an 87 year old ... the food is amazing something for everyone ,apart from the basics pizza/burgers( which are excellent !!) ...the Lebanese food is so tasty ,I had a mixed grill , my husband had ribs, lots of little nibbles you could order as appetisers , I really enjoyed every minute and will be back ....the service is excellent also ...what more could you wish for ...

We spent one evening in Richmond and decided to go to the Beer Cellar due to the raving recommendations here on Tripadvisor. My husband likes craft beer and we were really looking forward to a nice meal. We had nice drinks, and the staff was friendly and corteaous but the food did not really live up to what we expected. I had chicken wings, which I've had about 50 times (at least) and never have they been served in a sauce. I'm used to them served so you take them in the hand and dip them in blue cheese dip etc (the American way, perhaps). My halloumi sallad was great though. My husband had a pulled pork on flatbread and it was served like a pizza. Could be that we mistook the menu. Anyway, we had expected another kind of food experience.

Best craft beer bar in London and so happy it is within walking distance. They always have the country’s best breweries available - Verdant, Wylam, Cloudwater, Kernel etc and the food is Mayfair quality for half the price.

Quite a frequent visitor to the Vault when I visit Richmond , decided to have our wedding reception there after getting married at York House. Booked months in advance and paid a small deposit . Great communication from a Mike and Charles . Food on the day was absolutely superb, had a table for 11 of us, set up nicely with some table decorations that we dropped off earlier in the day . Staff absolutely brilliant , great beers on tap. Couldn’t have asked for a better day . Excellent value for money too. Will continue the tradition of visiting every time we are in Richmond.

Visited here recently for a friends 40th. Although not the biggest of places the food was excellent and they have a nice selection of ales. Food options were also good with plenty to choose from. All the staff were great and very helpful. Reasonably priced too.

A great little bar with a large range of good beers. Nice friendly staff and we got the two for one happy hour beers. Squirrel beer was excellent. Lots of good seating. The food menu looks good and it was very busy the night I was there but just had drinks. Definitely one to re-visit.

Best selection of bottles and cans I've seen so far in Richmond, also do cocktails. Menu is great and the pizza's are really good! Good place for a date or a group outing with a decent sized restaurant section at the back. All in all this place is fantastic and has something for everyone, oh and its also dog friendly!!

This was recommended to us by friends. We called for a few drinks one evening and ended up eating there. I had spatchcock chicken and it was really good. Friday afternoon and a riverside walk with my wife and the dogs along the towpath from Twickenham brought us here.

We visited when in Richmond for the Runfest. I'd emailed to book and hadn't had a response so I phoned and was told they were fully booked. However they called me back 5 minutes later and said that they'd double checked and had responded to my email, and I'd got the last table.

We went as a party of 10 on 1st November to celebrate our daughter’s 18th birthday. Our ages ranged from 5-78 years!

The portions are very generous. The food is lovely well cooked and presented. the service was good. However we were amazed to be confronted with a twelve and half per cent service charge on the whole bill which was totally unexpected as it was not mentioned on the menu or anywhere else. This a bad pracice and needs to be readdressed witt the option of not paying it. We choce to add a cash tip whatever we fee is apropriate

We dined here on the recommendation of friends and we were not disappointed. The food was superb with large portions and nicely presnted. the staff were very friendly. The only negative a twelve and half per cent service charge was added to the bill. this was totally unexpected.
