Pieris in Inverclyde

I believe this has been recently taken over by new owners. The interior is still very nice but lunch today was really poor. The staff are obviously new to the hospitality industry and need time to improve. The menu is a strange arrangement with 'pasta boats' on offer. It doesn't offer any definition with dishes not being separated into pasta and pizza etc. The food we got was very mediocre and could have been knocked up at home quickly and cheaply. The biggest surprise was asking for tomato ketchup we were given the Heinz bottle on the table. Surely it could have been served in a dish?

Having dinner with an old friend in the village where we both grew up. Have to say that our meal was great. The focaccia bread pomodoro was very tasty and both main courses the salmon with gnocchi and the fried chicken were lovely. Lovely, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. Wine was very good too!

Had a couple of pizza's, thought you could not really go wrong with them but under cooked, too much olive oil and pretty tasteless. Bar staff could do with better dress code, looked like they had fallen out of bed!!!

So disappointing. Changed hands recently, new management, new chef we were told. We ordered a bottle of montelpulciano which was plonked down on the table and left there for us to pour ourselves. Arancini starter was like cardboard, definitely not cooked fresh, I suspect frozen food. It was chewy, dry, and bland. Worst arancini I have ever had. There were 3 balls. I ate one and my mum ate one to confirm my thoughts. Told the waitress who initially said she wouldn't tell the chef as she would 'get into trouble'! The waitress was a lovely young girl and I explained it was not her fault atall and that I wanted feedback given to the kitchen. Glad we had all ordered pizza for mains because how wrong can you go with a pizza. All burnt to a crisp underneath, black. Asked for ketchup and a bottle of heinz was plonked on the table. If you're a diner then fine but your a restaurant charging £18 for a main meal! We asked for the bill and the waitress stated the chef would not let her remove the arancini from the bill 'because we ate most of it'. Never had an experience like it and as a kilmacolm resident I am so disappointed. We used to love going here. 🫠

Fantastic meal! - one of the best - we’ve had!!! Would highly recommend. We’re not local / from Ayrshire & this restaurant puts some of our restaurants to shame. Excellent, friendly service. Will definitely be back & just wish they had a restaurant in Ayr

This place has changed hands recently - previously it was ok for a snack/coffee but dinner here never appealed. However I spotted the new menu, so booked it. We were there on a quiet Tuesday night, and it was really lovely - the food was excellent and the service charming and attentive. A great improvement on my previous impression of this place. It’s now my first choice for a meal out in Kilmacolm.

Used to be one of my favourite places for lunch. It seems to have changed owners and what a disappointment. Didn't even stay to order as staff where unable to answer basic dietary requirement questions or follow basic hygiene rules.

A great place to stop in for a nice lunch. The speed of service can depend on the number of kitchen staff, but the food is great. The menu is quite a loot smaller than it used to be and can be quite limited at some visits (I think they had a kitchen staff shortage so for a while it was a smaller menu). The menu at night is also not huge. But everything is well made and tasty. The serving staff are really friendly and helpful. I wish they would turn the aircon down, it can be absolutely perishing and no one wants to linger over their food when they are frozen. Even when the weather was cold and wet, the aircon was still up full blast. The lighting is also "atmospheric" which means it could do with being turned up a bit.

Went there this morning at 10 am for breakfast/brunch. They usually have a good breakfast menu including pancakes with fruit and maple syrup which we were looking forward to. Found out they only do coffees etc. no food except pain au chocolat. Can't understand this change as it was always busy in the mornings. We left and went to another place in the village with better selection. Seems a shame as I think they will lose business, presume a good reason for it.

Called to book a table on Saturday afternoon for the same evening, and was told I didn’t have to book as they weren’t busy that evening. I said that was fine - situations like this do make me nervous however, are you an establishment that uses a booking system or not?! If it’s the latter, no worries. However it would seem that they do! We then arrived at 7:30pm and waited to be seated. The young waitress (very personable and helpful!) asked if we had a booking - I could see the place was already quite full - I explained the situation about being told not to book and she looked… worried. Alas, within minutes of us being seated the restaurant was then full - had we arrived at 8pm we wouldn’t have got a table. Not an efficient way of handling bookings at all, in my opinion. Food was okay - well priced for what it was, and the staff were lovely. Could have done with an extra pair of hands FOH though, as for a “quiet night” the two staff were run ragged.

We have frequented this establishment for many years, it changed hands and we have continued to eat here and get regular takeaways. Whilst there has been the odd off evening on the whole it is very good. This evening we visited and it was very poor. There were two staff waitressing one of whom appeared to assist in the kitchen. The restaurant was full and all around were diners complaining about the wait for food. We waited for an hour for our starter( soup) it was tasty but no parmigiana offered. The main took nearly another hour and again no parmigiana offered. We had to remind about our ordered drinks, no lime in the sparkling water with lime. We never got a bill and when we went to the desk prior to leaving we were handed the card machine with the amount we owed on it. The waitress walked away we dealt with the payment and left the waitress didn’t return to thank us or say goodbye. A very poor experience with no apology.

Second visit to what was our favourite restaurant in the area. Had booked lunch there for 4 with visiting friends from USA, turned up and told there was issues with the kitchen all morning. I asked why they hadn’t contacted me regarding my booking and was told they had contacted me via the “App”. I never booked through any app as I always phone. They were insistent it was on the App and they contacted me through my email address, they don’t have my email address as it’s never been asked for or given. Kept telling the staff I dont have any App therefore how was I meant to know unless they called me - Blank faces so left. Fast forward to Saturday 1st July, second chance so popped in around 12:15 pm with my partner and my sister who is visiting from Nottingham. There were about 6 people in, shown to a seat then no one came near us for 10 mins, no menus, no “ what would you like to drink while you are waiting “ nothing…. We got up and walked out and no one blinked an eye. Has this place changed hands? I used to recognise all the efficient staff that were there before and who were friendly and helpful. It has went downhill and won’t be back unless there are changes.

Just dreadful ! The service is awful, the food is awful and the ambiance is nil ! The menu reads well but the food doesn’t live up to it .

Our table for 4 was booked for 7pm. We had trouble getting any drinks & trouble ordering our food. After 1 hour & 20mins we got our starters-after several requests! 2 tables of 2 per table who came in well after us were served their starters before us. At 8.50 having tried to get information from the hapless, ill trained staff the ‘Manageress’ sent a totally under trained but sweet little girl to tell us we ( along with the rest of the restaurant) would not be getting any more food because of an electrical problem. This electrical problem was not their fault at all & affected the local area. However, we should have had our food long before this power problem occurred. The ‘Manageress’ was absolutely useless, patronising & lacked any people skills whatsoever. We left! We joined a queue at the local curry place along other very dissatisfied ex Punto customers. We won’t be back. Not because they had electrical problems but because it is a rudderless ship.

The service was good but the food was decidedly poor. The front door kept being opened to bring in the furniture from outside during the latter part of our meal & did nothing for the experience as cold and draughty. Should not really go wrong...

The “new” Punto is absolutely superb. A complete make-over and a new menu for the new management haven’t changed the fact that this is the pre-eminent dining venue in Kilmacolm. The wine list is superb and please leave room for the verse - quite stunning....

Danny and David made us very welcome tonight at their opening and the restaurant was well supported by everyone. The Bruschetta was warm and crisp and the angel hair pasta was just as it should be. The transformation was obvious all round.

This is the first time I have ever had a problem with the food here. We had takeaway beefburgers, my husband said his was dry and tasteless but mine was inedible because it was undercook and very pink in the middle. I don't think we sit be ordering any more takeaways.

Shared the special Fritto Misto starter as our main course (£17) and with one portion of massive chunky chips and a side of beetroot and roasted goats cheese salad we were more than replete. In fact could not eat another thing! Lightly battered calamari, prawns, haddock all super, cooked to order, chef knows his stuff...smoked salmon, prawns Marie rose and garlic bread completed the dish.Service is fast and friendly. It’s a snug spot, now with bar seating too, which could do with a coat rack, but otherwise pretty faultless and great value. We will be back!

Over the years, the Pieri family has brought Italian ice cream, a traditional restaurant, a deli and an informal trattoria to the village. Adriano Pieri has moved on again with his new Punto d’incontro - ‘meeting point’ which combines foodie specials with bar food, pizza, and pasta. We love this friendly place which has genuine Italian flavours and where 3 generations of the family are all involved.

Now known as Punto, Pieri’s has a slimmed-down menu but is great for casual dining and the food is still excellent.

The constantly changing “specials” make it almost impossible to order from the pre-printed menu - there is always something really interesting to try from the board. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the food is fantastic. All-in-all, another great afternoon.

Hustle bustle Friday night and it’s all going like the clappers. Lovely waiting staff zing around with smiles, nothing too much trouble. Seafood platter to share for 2 a triumph with smoked salmon cornets stuffed full of prawns Marie rose, whitebait, tempura prawns, calamari, salad, lightly battered fish, soft yummy garlic bread and dipping sauce, it was brilliant. Maître D Recommendation to go lightly on mains well taken and a nice touch, just about managed to get through a starter portion of sweet delicious chilli and tomato mussels, one of their various specials. Yummy scrummy. It’s a coffee shop, gelateri, bar and restaurant all in one, but they more then maximise a smallish space and for the friendly welcome and service and brilliant food, we Will be back 100%.

A fabulous restaurant that’s been around a long time. The food has never failed to please and the staff are very attentive. Open later some evenings and a relaxing, welcoming atmosphere.

Local place that does fair pizza. Friend ordered the seafood risotto. The fish was excellent but it wasn’t risotto just an upturned bowl of damp rise. As she said if they’d described it differently it would have been fine.

Pieris is a family run establishment which combines the best of everything. It is a café/bistro/restaurant and everything in between! Catering for all tastes and choices from early morning until later in the evening, Pieris provides great food, coffee, ice cream and delicious cakes. The attentive, friendly staff make this a popular venue of choice in Kilmacolm and moving from a previous, smaller establishment just a few doors along has proved a great success. Congratulations to Pieris for providing an all-day, all-round, extremely successful enhancement/addition to Kilmacolm.

We always enjoy our Sunday lunches here. They have a reasonably priced set menu,and the food is always good. Deserts are lovely, and the carrot cake in particular is a deliciously moist delight. Service is good, and they are lose to our home. We eat here a lot.

Whilst in Kilmalcolm shopping we popped in for lunch.We choose the Easter lunch menu from which I had goats cheese salad starter ,husband had meatballs.My starter was delicious and really tasty,husband thought his was over seasoned.Both had chicken served in cream & mushroom sauce which was ok,just a bit of a heavy sauce. With one portion of rice and one of chips.Rice was well cooked,chips although light in colour were a bit dry inside.Service was efficient.Will probably visit again and be more selective of our menu choices.

This will be my 14th review of this little gem of a restaurant. We know the food will be good and the service equally so. We are very lucky to live so close to Pieris. and take often eat here.

Pieri’s previous café setting was popular and when it moved a few doors down there must have been anxiety that the investment would pay off. The good news is that it is a resounding success and one of the area’s most popular bistros with a varied menu offering very good value. Pieri’s still fails though on the selective friendliness of the manager. Staff provide a genuinely welcoming service despite the obvious tension when the manager is in a mood. However, you might be among the select band honoured with a chat and a smile – but don’t count on it. Also, if you’re not in the manager’s chosen few be consoled by the knowledge that you are certainly in the majority to enjoy what’s likely to be a very pleasurable bistro experience.

Came in here for lunch and had the meatballs in tomato sauce. The sauce was tastless, a red watery soup with little flavour. I wonder whether it had actually seen any seasoning on its way from the tin to my plate. The meatballs were overcooked and underwhelming, it wouldnt be hard to throw in a little rosemary or paprika. I also through that given the copious amount of sauce given relative to the 3 tiny meatballs that maybe some nice ciabatta might be included....of course not.

I was appalled to be greeted with "We will need your table back by 7:30pm, as we are very busy tonight". I had booked a table for 6:30pm. I expressed my displeasure, astonished that they expected us to peruse a menu, order and eat two courses within an hour. I was told we could "finish off our meal at the banquette seating near the door". Totally unprofessional, unwelcoming & if I had not brought a visitor with me who had been travelling 300 miles plus, I would have gone home. As it was, I felt badgered by the serving staff to order quickly, I was asked three times if I wanted Foccacia bread, each time I explained I didn't know as yet what I wanted to eat. When a meal starts off with such pressure, it was unsurprising I did not enjoy the experience. I will never return nor would I recommend this so called restaurant to anyone - the whole meaning of restaurant is to be restored & refreshed - I left feeling distinctly disappointed and malnourished.

Food and coffee generally very good. Less consistent is the owner/manager's welcome and who is moody and seemingly selective when deciding which customers to engage with. Maybe it's really for "locals only" as opposed to visitors to the nice little village. A varied selection of chocolates, ice cream and tasty snacks make for a potentially superb venue. However, as long as there is the feeling that the cafe is doing clients a favour by existing (even the waitresses seemed stressed) then it will always be a 'hit and miss' type of establishment. A pity but then it's up to the people/person/man in charge to treat everyone with respect and make all customers feel valued as opposed to a chosen few..
