The staff are brilliant, the food is wonderful, the wine is good and very reasonably priced. There were only 3 tables on a first come basis and we felt really lucky to eat there. I think most of the business is likely to be ‘take away’ and the cafe is somewhat eccentric and a tad untidy but we left happy and content. A brilliant find! Sadly it was closed on Sunday and Monday otherwise we would have returned 👍

First used the pie crust back in the eighties when I used to live in Stratford, I must have been about 19 back then. It used to be an ordinary cafe in those days. After many years I went back and was pleased to see they started doing Thai food. The staff still recognized me and as usual gave me a warm welcome and seemed pleased to see an old face, as I was pleased to see they were still running the place. Food has always been excellent good portions and good value for money. The lady taking the orders is a lovely lady as is her husband. It might not look much from the outside but they clean the place thoroughly. Wished I live nearer so I could use them more often. I always go there if I am nearby, and always will. Excellent service lovely owners, and excellent tasty food. If your in the area it's well worth a visit. By the look of what I have read and seen they seem to be a proper Thai restaurant now. I can't wait to go back its well worth the distance I have to travel, as I now live in NW London. I can't praise this place more, 40 years later and I have never forgot the pie crust.😊

Everytime I am in London I make every effort to go to Pie Crust. Behind the unassuming sign and door is a culinary delight of Thai food that beckons. As a regular visitor to Thailand, Pie Crust allows me to savour the flavours of Thailand here in Blighty. The service is bang on and friendly almost like being in your grandmothers kitchen. IF you expect silver service, tiny portions, michelin starred food in an opulent environment, forget it this place is not for you. If you want home cooked food that is simply superb, in a homely comfortable environment you will love this!

I don't know what the reviewers are thinking who have rated this anything less than excellent. Maybe it's their tastebuds or preference of michelin standard/upmarket settings...after reading some examples, think some people need to humble themselves down! Environment; it's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a warm, candlelit, humble, family run place to support and eat, this is for you. If not, Mayfair is accessible via the tube. If you've tried and tested multiple Thai cuisines across London like I have (Busaba is not authentic, but I will say I like it and recommend it if you never had Thai food before as an entry level place before trying the real stuff!) then this is hands down one of the best authentic places still left standing! I live in West London and would happily drive out here for my Thai fix. I'd highly recommend the Coconut Chicken Soup (tip: slurp it and the flavours burst in your mouth with an ever so slight sting of spice in your mouth), Pad Thai (of course) and Pineapple Fried Rice. If you're looking for those typical "instagrammable" places because you're a social media wannabe, then look elsewhere, if you want great authentic, homely and tasty Thai food, then this is a must! Oh and the service...the auntie's looking after you inside will always serve you with a smile...as titled, there's a reason why they're successful since the 1980s...

Ok so there are no linen napkins trendy deco and the toilet is an adventure, but the bill reflects that. We had an uncomfortable meal here, which was a shame as the food was terrific. Quality-wise it was up there with the best Thai food I’ve had in east London. Unfortunately they had mixed up our starters with the table next to us so that we were brought two dishes and they were brought none. The complication arose as we had ordered a ‘platter’ and had just assumed that both dishes were part of his order. When we found out we explained to staff but they clearly didn’t understand and the atmosphere became more and more tense. In the end the table next to us didn’t receive their starter and we were charged for two dishes. When I complained that the error was down to them they said that we ate both dishes and therefore we had to pay. I didn’t mind paying at all, but I thought that it was not right as we honestly didn’t realise we were eating someone else’s starter. I also found the staff to be quite unhelpful. Overall, I would go back on the basis that it was probably just an unlucky experience - and the food was that good!

Having read the mostly positive reviews, we thought we’ll try this place. It’s obviously been here for decades, well before all the swanky new buildings that now surround it. It looks decidedly out of place. Parked in one of the nearby side streets after 6.30pm. The cafe is so dimly lit that it looks closed. The decor as you walk in is gloomy. It’s obviously not been updated since the cafe opened. There were candles on every table, and if these were removed the place would be absolutely insufferable. It also isn’t very clean. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. A visit to the toilet reminds one of a medieval dungeon. You have to negotiate some very steep and wet stairs, with almost no lighting, and then are met with the most basic of amenities in the ‘bathroom’. The waitress was positively surly. The food was disappointingly average. I am a regular at several Thai restaurants, and this was well below any of their standards. Prawn starters were bland. Beef satay was greasy. Squid curry had hardly any squid and absolutely no basil as was advertised on the menu. Prawn curry was ok, but had only 5 prawns in it. Portions are not generous, but just enough if you’re not very hungry. Corkage is ridiculous at £2.50 per person. They only accept cash, which again in this day and age is absurd. There are no cash points nearby, so he prepared. There’s also no signs telling you this, so it’s a bit embarrassing if you get caught out. One visit to this place is enough to tick it off the ‘hidden gem’ list. The dingy and dirty decor, average food, poor amenities and insistence of cash payments is enough to put off a second visit.

At first glance I wondered if I'd made a terrible mistake picking this place to eat, I'd read reviews as you're supposed to and the word was that this was the place to go. The restaurant is in an old greasy spoon type cafe, and nothing seems to have been changed. There are still the old menu boards on the walls, the lighting (such as it is) is very much based in the old style too. I found the lighting to be almost too dim for my poor old eyes to decipher the menu at all, but I managed with difficulty.

The place from the outside, looks like a dive bar, and when you walk in... a little dated. I have had Thai food in America, from a Vietnamese/Thai restaurant. I don't know what real Thai food is, so to say; however, we all know, you can't get or hard to find good Mexican/Creole/Southern type foods up north in USA. Let’s imagine your date offers to cook in their kitchen diner, turns off the fluorescent strip lighting and lights a candle as a nod to ‘ambience’ and ..you get the picture. A lot of the sixes thickened with Cornelius which is not Thai, my holy basil chicken had no basil in it, I appreciate it's not always available but I should have been told. My Tom sum was very good though and you can take in your own booze. The staff were generally not that friendly, one attributes to any good Thai establishment. The tom yum soup was uninteresting and lacked bite while the penang curry I had was also pretty ordinary. I went with two others who were also disappointed. From the outside it looks like your typical greasy spoon, and the inside is dated and in need of sprucing up. The candles on the tables look like they’ve been used 50 times over.

When it came to the food, you could taste that everything was handmade and everything was amazing! I don't remember having better Thai food anywhere else in London! The only small issue was that the place is pretty small, so it can be a bit cramped depending on how busy the place is.

Amazing family-run local restaurant serving absolutely delicious Thai food. You can tell it is a well-loved place as the staff are on a friendly basis with practically every single person who comes through the door. Some people seem to come here at least once a week, that's how good it is!

Do not let the appearance of the place let you down. The food is really good and for a moment you can imagine you are not in London but in a cafe in Thailand. My husband and I liked it and we will go again. Even if we went with our two years old I did not find the place to be baby friendly. That’s the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

This Thai restaurant is a scruffy looking café on Stratford High St. During the day it's a typical east end café. At night it still looks scruffy but serves the best Thai food.

I went there 5 years ago and thought the food was below par. Went there again with a Thai friend and the food was worse than before! The fried rice was hard and undercooked tasted of rancid oil! The sweet and sour chicken was pieces of tasteless chicken in a thick floury sauce that didn't even match something you would buy in a jar from supermarket! My Thai friend thought her seafood salad was below par. I can not understand where all the good reviews come from?! How anybody thinks the food is good, it is beyond me! I lived in Thailand for 2.5 years and ate out every night, so know a thing or two about Thai food. I am a foodie and was very disappointed! On top of that, my friend just spent the last 30 minutes in the toilet! We will never go back to this restaurants(?) again!

We discovered this place after a very late night working at a convention, with a group of people with a variety of dietary needs. The vegans in our group were very impressed, as the lovely people at the restaurant could pretty much make anything on the menu vegan, and were very careful with noting down what people could, and could not, eat.The food did not disappoint when it arrived! I could have drunk the green curry sauce, it was so delicious. The tofu was very well cooked, and the garlic was liberal.A bit slow on the service, don't go if you're in a hurry, but they were incredibly busy and for a good reason- this place is worth the wait.Highly recommended, it really is a diamond of a place hiding behind a rather deceiving exterior.

I was recommended this place by a friend as I lived opposite but never went there from its somewhat deceiving front. The food was so good, I think I went every two weeks until I then moved flat. But I still make the trek from my new place to Stratford just for this food. Such tasty and authentic food. Would definitely recommend the Pad Thai and green thai curry. Family ran and can get busy so I would recommend booking. Such good value for your money. Never spent more than £20 a head. Also £2 corkage per head to bring your own alcohol which is great for London prices of alcohol!

No, it's not a trucker's butty shack it really is a Thai restaurant. I missed it the first night I was here and ended up having a kebab for my supper. Next night I was in. What can I say? Food very good indeed and well priced. Yes it lacks the super gloss of a high end restaurant but then why pay more? You can't eat the decor can you.Top tip is to pay the £2.00 corkage and take your own booze. They had Singha beer but they were 333ml bottles. There a Tesco 2 mins away. So go there, have a grin and decent nosh

This was just the perfect place for us as it was right opposite our hotel and served Thai cuisine for dinner which we had been craving for. We did not expect it would turn out to be such a wonderful choice. Seeing all the tables were full , we kinda guessed that the food would be good, but it was heavenly when we actually had it ourselves. They catered to our need of completely vegetarian food and made it without using oyster or fish sauces, despite being so busy. The quantity was decent. Prices really low as compared to other places in London. Very friendly owners. Servers can use some more energy. All in all a wonderful place. They also serve the usual breakfast in the morning which looked really inexpensive, although we didn't try it. We had dinner here for 2 consecutive nights and enjoyed it both the times . Ambience is also very nice and cozy . They allow you to BYOB and charge £2 as corkage fee. Loved this place!

I'll say now that when you first arrive you will be questioning your sanity, particularly as the sign above the door now actually says PIF CRUST (they've lost the bottom of the E). But, by the time you leave you'll be bursting at the seams and planning your next visit.Once you've swallowed your pride and plucked up the courage to walk in, you'll be greeted by a sociable atmosphere, delicious smells and a smiley old lady who will show you to your seat (assuming you've booked and are not made to wait for a table out on the street). I'll take this opportunity to add that the service here is not at its finest, so if you're hoping to start eating within the next hour then I'd also ask for menus and glasses at this point. I'm not going to try to describe the food as I won't be able to do it justice but the Pad Thai is out of this world! If you like a bit of spice then I'd recommend asking for extra chilli as the dishes are quite mild, but extremely tasty all the same. Once you've got to this point you'll be totally sold and the very affordable bill at the end of the night will be the icing on the cake.

The Pie Crust, on the very busy A11 in Stratford, is a surprising little eatery. It has been there for at least 15 years, longer perhaps. The tiny building was surrounded by the usual Stratford warehouses and factories, which were all demolished for the Olympics in '12. Nearly all demolished, actually, because the Pie Crust still stands there proudly, a little stump among the new concrete forest around it.By day it is an old-fashioned east London caff, but at night they stop serving bacon sarnies and start their Thai menu. That's right, Thai. The give-away is the large portraits of Thai monarchs hanging on a wall.Great grub, by day and by night, at very reasonable prices. The entire operation is run by tiny Suzi and her husband. Suzi knows all her customers, and they all eat what she serves them. No one, not even the hulking blokes from the construction sites, dare defy her. No, she is no tyrant but you cannot mess with her.Nearby streets are all double-yellow, so be careful where you park, please. You'll get good food and you'll enjoy the experience.

It's not always that the impression you get from reviews turns out to be 100% true but it did in this case. Knowing I would be ian uncharted part of Stratford for one night I was dependent on Trip Advisor for a good solo supper and here it was.I was first through the door at 6pm en route to my hotel. Not much English spoken but never mind, I was being served within 15 minutes and the food was genuinely very good.I would particularly recommend the prawns with home made satay sauce. The staff were all efficient and friendly and it was a real tribute to reviewing as the outside does not look too smart, but once you are through the door it is well worth your time and money.

Nicely decorated restaurant with a lovely view to enjoy while eating. The service wasn’t great, was not a busy evening and we were seated at the end of the room, where staff hardly take notice of you. In terms of the food, it was decent. I have personally tried better elsewhere, but it is a decent spot for a quick dinner date. - The jungle curry (beef) was spicy but lacked flavour. 5/10 - The egg fried rice was nice & well seasoned. 7/10 - The noodles tasted too much like ketchup, a bit too sweet for my liking. 3/10

The food is always excellent here, and the customer service from Lauren is always knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. For some reason the restaurant is usually empty, which is a shame as it's a lovely place. Hard to say a favourite dish, as they're all great - the salads, fish cakes, curries, stir fries are all recommended.
