Pie and Vinyl in Portsmouth

I love this place. The food is great and a wonderful selection of vinyl. The service from a member of the team was super above and beyond today. They really helped me when purchasing a vinyl record today as a gift for a family member and helped with posting for a small fee. First class service from this wonderful place in the heart of beautiful Southsea. Thank you!

Not the Pie & Mash I'm accustomed to but this was a really lovely meal, great value and well worth a visit, we will be back for another soon

It's a very young, very trendy place, with very limited outdoor seating - essentially in the road - with hustle and bustle aplenty all around, and people wandering by just inches away, but... it's also really quite charming and quirky, as is the service: it's a very chilled out dining experience! As for the pies, however, they were superb: great filling, great pastry, great mash, great topping, and - as a first for us - the liqour was an absolute revelation which made it great too! Well worth a visit, even if - like us - you're not a hipster!

Ordered a signed vinyl copy . Arrived loose sandwiched between album cover & inner sleeve. Advised this was "normal". It is better to send vinyl loose than in its protective sleeve? It's a signed copy & that's the acceptable approach. Utter nonsense.

We were lucky enough to get a table - I think there’s only 4. Quirky place with records for sale all around. The pie was good I ordered the black one and it was very tasty as well as unusual. Sides nice as well & gravy lovely.

We came along today for my parent's bday. There was no where to sit which was fine as it's a small shop, so we asked if we could order to takeaway. The woman said that we could then walked away and didn't acknowledge us for a further 10 minutes. The staff were rude and unfriendly. Kept looking at us but not saying anything or even make any attempt to serve us. One of the woman came over and told me to move out of the way and I said that I was waiting to order and had been for a while. She then said yes but I don't want to hurt you with emphasis on the hurt which came across threatening. If they had served us when we intially asked about ordering it wouldn't have been an issue and we wouldn't have been 'in the way' waiting to get service. Staff seemed very rude and unprofessional, will not be returning.

This is such a cool venue, they do lots of delicious vegetarian and meat pies, the service is swift and friendly, the food is really delicious and great value. I would highly recommend.

Had a lovely lunch here in between watching bands at Victorious Festival. I had the paneer and spinach pie and mash and my friend had the vegetarian version of a chicken pie, all of it was gorgeous and I will look forward to returning!

Charming & quirky place that is worth a visit. The vinyl records are all new issues rather than originals - the prices appear to be around £22 per album so there's no chance of a bargain, and there's little romance because they are not the originals. However, if you like buying new vinyl, this is a cool place to browse - you even get a free cup of tea! The pie part of the shop is mostly separate, though there are albums around the tables to browse for those so inclined. The menu is divided into meat pies one side, and non-meat the other. A hot pie by itself is £6.50, gravy £1 extra, mash (various) £3 each, mushy peas or beans are £3 - though you can get the complete plate for £11.50. The servings are generous and filling, and the pies are tasty. There are canned beers from three different local breweries available - 440ml cans are £6.50. All in all not cheap but a fair deal for honest, locally cooked food and locally made beer in a charming and quirky environment. And the staff are cool. Well worth a visit.

wow what a unique place, been here at least 10 times and the charm never fails to impress me. The moo and blue burger is unreal!

A repeat visit to this quaint little establishment due to an amazing visit last time. The pie and mash are delicious and filling. The restaurant is quite small so getting a table might be difficult at times but we had no problem both times we’ve been. Service was excellent. Will definitely be returning again!

After struggling to contact the shop as none of the email addresses worked, Steve considered that it was just a "minor cosmetic damage" and offered that I return the record at my own expenses and pay for shipping a replacement, in breach with customer rights. Hopefully PayPal took in charge the return fees but to date the shop did not refund the order that I returned. Very dishonest and disappointing.

Ordered from here 3 times now. All 3 times they’ve sent at least one wrong pie. Ordered a vegan pie this latest time and they sent a meat pie and the contents had leaked onto the mash so I couldn’t even eat that. Called the shop and was told there’s nothing they can do and to ask for a refund through deliveroo. Not helpful. Won’t bother again with this place

Ordered during lockdown - can’t remember when exactly, but was mightily impressed. Pie and mash at its best, with all the toppings. Good local beer available at one point - would love a bit more choice but it was great to see anyway. Must visit as I’ve heard the venue is very quirky

This outfit took my vinyl mail order and money. After hearing nothing for a week, I questioned it. They had no stock, I don't know when they were going to tell me. Stick to Pies.

The best pie and mash ever had. Even under the rain to which they lent us two umbrellas. A wonderful if surreal experience. Going back there to return umbrellas. (They were so kind to lend to us). Really nice food and good people.

If you like pies, you'll love eating at the pie and vinyl shop. All encrusted in pastry (including black pastry) and some great fillings, different flavour mash, and sides of all kinds. And if you still have a record deck, you can browse their extensive collection of vinyl records. Very basic tables and surroundings but a great place for some good British pie and mash.

I contacted the pie and vinyl as my father in law had just come out of hospital after a long admission and has mobility issues but was keen to go for lunch as he loved it there previously previously, they were so kind and accommodating he really enjoyed his lunch

This isn't the biggest place, but they definitely make up for it in content. The pie selection is great, with some decent sides and a full drinks menu. Service is fast and with a smile, and although I expect this can get busy, we found a table by the window on a Saturday lunchtime.

Went there with my family and a friend, was worried to not find a place for us as we where 5 and there is no booking system, fortunately there was few table available!

Heard so much about this place was so excited to visit when we came to Southsea for the weekend! Service was excellent and was such a quirky unique dining experience. Great price too. My only very small comment is the halloo88 pie did not have as much halloumi as I was expecting, it was more beetroot- but still nice!

Called in to Pie and Vinyl as when we walked by they had a live band, Penelope Isles, playing. The pies, service and atmosphere was as good as the music. Really good place with superb people working there. And they have masses of vinyl, what's not to like.

Cool place, I didn't really explore the record shop but the food was hearty and good comfort food but with some refinement and deliciously flavoured. Good music playing all evening. Highly recommend

Quirky cafe that we really wanted to like but we won't return. Drinks were nice, food bland. Horseradish mash had no discernible trace of horseradish. Steak pie sans steak. Dumplings tasted of cardboard. Peeps, a few herbs and a little seasoning of the gravy would make a big difference.

Loved this chilled quirky little restaurant. The food was amazing, especially the jalapeño mash with chilli flakes 😋. Such a huge choice of pies, all deep filled and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. A refreshing change from the usual chain restaurants.

Normalmente marcaría un lugar abajo si siento que es un poco sucio o el servicio no es el mejor, pero no aquí. Cuando entramos, se veía muy peculiar y abarrotado de vinilo y cosas asociadas. This is such a must. Quirky little shop with fab pies washed down with a mango & passionfruit IPA. Life does not get much better. Simple and accurate!

A very eclectic little place not too far from southsea pier. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is perfect! SO glad we tried this place after looking at local reviews whilst in the area. We had pies with mash and my daughter tried the ice cream. The cordials were lovely and are served in teapots - lovely unique twist. We all enjoyed our meals, drinks and the service very much. We will be back when we are next in the area for sure!

Really liked the indy vibe in Southsea and this place served up a pie sized helping with a great selection from the universe of the pie-o-sphere with my vegan choice with lovely smooth mash. Really friendly staff, loads of vinyl and a right quirky interior. Love it!!!!!

Came here with a friend for the first time, he had been telling me for months how wonderful it was. Lovely, quirky place and the pie was beautiful - could of been a tad warmer but still thoroughly enjoyed it! Cordials are tasty too.

My other half and I had been talking about going for the longest time, so he surprised me for Valentine's Day. There was a little bit of a mess up with bookings but they were very apologetic and had us seated as soon as they could. Not sure how they usually have it, but it was very romantic with dimmed lighting and candles - really quite lovely!

Enjoyed our (one and only) visit to the Pie and Vinyl. The choice of alcoholic drinks was one of two tinned real ales. Nice enough but pretty poor selection. Pies were lovely but the ‘ambience’ was spoiled by the constant ping of a microwave. Not much else to say. Glad we tried it. Pleasant experience but won’t be back.

Browse the records for sale while waiting for your meal to be prepared. An odd combination but it works, prices reasonable, quality very good. Did have to wait to be seated as they were so busy

Had lunch with my student sons here. Brilliant, substantial home-cooked pies with meat, vegetarian and vegan options. Good, heatlhy food. Reasonably priced. In a quirky unusual, relaxed and 'trendy' setting. Friendly, efficient service. Highly recommended. Will definitely return.

Been to pie and vinyl on several occasions and always enjoyed coming here. Visited for my birthday in December 2018 and had one of their speciality Christmas pies which was great, and 2 other family members had Christmas specials too. Quirky shop where drinks come in glasses and vintage jugs. Very fun experience for the whole family with great food and service. Can’t wait until my next visit!

Made an impromptu call in for some food as myself and two friends couldn't be bothered to walk any further from Old Portsmouth towards Albert Road. It had been over a year since I went there last and I forgotten how wonderful this place was.

Excellent pies and great comfort food. Little bit cramped inside and if you're by the door it can get a bit chilly every time someone comes in. Not a fan of helping yourself to cutlery for hygiene reasons. Can't imagine how many hands have rummaged in the boxes. Get there early as you can't book a table. It's worth a visit.

Recently visited for the first time with my daughter and having enjoyed the experience gave P&V; another visit one lunchtime with a friend.

I went to this quirky restaurant a few years ago and was delighted with the food and the environment . I was due to have some friends to stay who were new to the area and thought they would like Pie and Vinyl so tried to book online via their website contact form. I had no reply so phoned up and had a very dismissive " no we don't take booking and probably haven't got round to looking at the email". We decided to chance it anyway as it was for 5.30pm. When we got there we had to wait for ages as there were no tables, stuck in looking the LPs even though there was a table for 6 with only 2 people on. Finally we pounced on a table as people left. we ordered but It took ages to be served as they seemed disorganised and to be concentrating on take out orders. We had requested a jug of water but it never came. When the food came, the fillings were delicious but two of the pies had rock hard pastry- as though they had been reheated a few times. People waiting for seats were standing next to our table the whole time and the cold air kept whipping in when they were in and out with take away orders. We wont bother again, what a shame.

I reviewed this place a while back and was very disappointed by the inordinate time I had to wait. That said, the food was really good and so I decided to go again.

Lunchtime special is very good value. As a South Londoner, this isn’t proper pie and mash, but it’s good pie and mash. Even without the lunchtime offer, it still seems pretty good value. If you like pie, then give it a try

Visited with friends whilst staying in Portsmouth. We were met with a warm & friendly welcome . This place is so quirky, retro tables chairs & china, full of trinkets posters & then of course viny for sale or just for reminiscing. The pie selection is both traditional & different, served with a selection of sides. No alcohol here but a good selection of teas & soft drinks. We all enjoyed our meals & the overall experience, even bought a T shirt. Worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different.

Pie & Vinyl tiene que ser mi lugar favorito de comida reconfortante en la ciudad. Han establecido menús por "temporada" y lo cambian diariamente con pasteles especiales que solo están disponibles en el día. He estado yendo aquí para comer pastel, puré y salsa durante casi 2 años y también he asistido a eventos como Meet & Greets y actuaciones en las tiendas de bandas en el pasado.

He estado viniendo a la tienda durante los últimos 15 meses comprando un montón de vinilo, pero cuando salimos de la costa sur el lunes, mi esposa dijo que me trataría con una oferta de comida de Pie y Vinyl. Y fue absolutamente increíble, elegí el trato de comida del alma escogiendo el pastel Dirty Dawg con puré de mostaza de cerveza, guisantes rellenos de menta cubiertos con crujiente de tocino y chalotes y licores crujientes. Mi esposa eligió el pastel de sabbath negro con salsa ondulada, ambos dijimos que los pasteles eran realmente increíbles.

Teniendo una alergia al gluten y los productos lácteos, puse la idea de volver a comer pastel de nuevo en el fondo de mi mente. . . Hasta que mi compañero descubrió la tarta y el vinilo de cafe. Comí el bistec de ese pastel: todo sin gluten y sin lácteos, puré, menta de guisantes y una hermosa y espesa salsa sin gluten. ¡No solo la mejor tarta sin gluten sino las mejores tartas! ! El café es muy interesante también. Me encantó el look retro. ¡Gracias por mi increíble experiencia de pastel!

Pie and Vinyl excelled all my expectations. I went for the pie that has black pastry and it was simply delightful.

We had been meaning to visit here for a while and finally had a rare day off together to visit. The place is smaller than expected so if you're visiting in the evening I'd recommend booking. We visited at lunch time so there was no wait for a table.

We have visited this restaurant on numerous accasions and are still amazed at the excellent pies. The atmosphere is always good and the staff, service and of course the food is always excellent. I would highly recommend lovers of pies to try this restaurant you will not be disappointed.

Pie and mash, drinks served in tea pots and mason jars, a great atmosphere. What is there not to love? The very definition of simple, yet effective. Loved it!

I am new to the area and wanted so where to take my vegetarian friend as well as her meat eating mother. We love exploring and always looking for unusual quirky cafes and restaurants . Pie n Vinyl served delicious pies served on mash potato offering different ingredients in mash, gravy served separately so we could put as much or little as wanted. Each of us chose a different pie, all were delicious , we also had large jug of fruit juice everything served on a mish mash of plates and cutlery, lots of vintage goodies on the walls and shelves to purchase plus of course great selection of vinyl records. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we cannot wait to go again.

Would highly recommend. From the moment we walked in I felt welcome and a valued guest at pie and vinyl. I had the celeriac pie which was awesome but tried my fiances roast pork special pie which was just as tasty! Food, decor and atmosphere were lovely for a quiet meal. Can't wait to work my way through the menu!

First time here and we thought it was great. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the place had a nice vibe. The main reason for going was record shopping but being able to also sit and have a delicious pie was an added bonus. We both thought our pies and mash were very tasty and I also enjoyed my cream soda served out of an old ceramic teapot. We will be back I’m sure.

Smells a bit like boiled cabbage when you first walk in. Kind of cool decor, walls filled with 'stuff' and good music. The smaller tables at the back of the cafe are a bit uncomfortable as you can't fit your legs under them but we moved to another table when it came available. We paid just over £27 for 2 hot chocolates, 2 pies and 3 sides (mustard mash, sweet potato mash and mushy peas). Our drinks hadn't arrived 20 minutes after ordering as they had forgotten. When they did arrive they weren't great, just tasted like warm milk and definitely not worth £3.50 each. Pies were tasty and had a good amount of filling however they did serve us the wrong pie. We ate it anyway as we were so hungry and didn't want to wait any longer. We noticed another couple were also not happy by how long they had to wait for their food.

Visited here last year and haven’t stopped talking about the place and particularly the beautiful thin tasty pastry with bundles of delicious filling.

I cannot fault this place! Love the quirky interior and although it is small, the atmosphere is great. Delicious pies with tons of vegan options as well as all the classics. Being gluten intolerant I thought the last thing I'd be able to find is a place that does gluten-free pies but this just is standard for Pie and Vinyl. Friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Can be difficult to get a table due to its small size, and the best pies often sell out so get there fast!

Got a seat straight away. So much to see around you records and memorable keep sakes from the past was a joy to see. Food was amazing and had an amazing soft drink of rhubarb and elderflower was a sip of heaven.

We’ve always wanted to visit here and finally did after checking out of our daughter’s house at the end of uni. Unusual decor! Old trinkets all around with vinyl records on sale along with souvenirs and T shirts. Food is really different. Unusual recipes. Same with the drinks.Loved it and would definitely visit again!

I really wanted to love this place because the decor and atmosphere is so kooky, it felt like I was in High Fidelity. Maybe we went at a particularly busy time but it was cramped inside which made me feel a bit lacking in personal space, especially as other customers waiting for a seat end up standing around your table as there is nowhere for them to wait. We enjoyed the yummy pies but the fact that they don’t do chips is a real oversight.

At first I was skeptical - I'm not British so for me a pie brings the association of warm apples and cinnamon, not a small pastry with all kinds of stuff inside.

Unusual selection of pies which were delicious served with excellent condiments. Husband spent ages perusing the vinyl so they gave a free cup of tea. Had a lovely afternoon spending a Christmas gift voucher. Good place to meet up with family.

Attended here a few weeks ago, and I must say it’s a lovely place to dine. I tend to try and find places that I’ve never been to before to see what sort of venues are around, and this was definitely a nice place to go. The pies are delicious here.
