An incredible address, with lots of character. The waiters are very friendly, the cuisine is refined and not overpriced which is rare in the UK. The portions are nice and it's nice to share a platter. Truly an address worth the detour!

I just saw Nicholas Patni’s review and I was there that evening. When his friend fainted a member of the bar staff went straight up to the group to check on her and ask if they should order an ambulance. They said no. Yes, I saw that they were waiting for a table for a while, but a staff member walked up to them several times to give them an update on tables and availability. I was more shocked that the whole group of friends stood around laughing, while the girl lay on the floor. She also sat down on a seat following this, so I just find this review, offensive and totally wrong.

Awful customer service. Was told a table would be ready very soon ended up waiting 1h30 for a table and still no table materialised. A person in our group fainted and still no staff member offered up the smaller table for our group to be at so that our friend could at least sit. I think the staff should be ashamed

Visited on a whim during a Sunday shopping in Edinburgh. It was quiet, but had a lovely welcoming feel and was a calm, cosy environment to recharge in. We opted for the cheese and meat platter for two with a glass of red wine each, and it was divine. The hostess was very friendly, welcoming us with a glass of water and ensuring that we sat where we wanted. She also told is where our cheeses were from. 100% recommend!

LOVE this place! We had visited once before and loved it so much that we just had to come back. It's exactly what you'd expect from a great wine bar. There's an amazing selection of wine (wide variety and very affordable) and they also have HUGE charcuterie boards. Seriously, the charcuterie boards are the stuff of dreams. To begin with, they're enormous! Huge portions of high quality meat, cheese, and bread. They don't really have much else to eat on the menu besides the meat and cheese boards, but wow they are truly all you need! They are enough for a full meal and each selection of meat/cheese was delicious. Overall, it's very easy to spend hours here just enjoying great wine, great company, and great ambience . Pickles is extremely charming and delightful. I only wish I lived in Edinburgh so Pickles could be my weekend hang out spot, but till then it'll always be a "must visit" anytime I'm in town. Highly recommend.

Third time back here. It holds special memories from our first visit 10 years ago and today's revisit was just as good. The actual place has expanded but the overall experience was just as good if not better.

Maybe...probably....our new favourite place in Edinburgh. We had to wait a few minutes for a table (no reservations....just rock up), but it was well worth it. The staff are excellent, and take good care of you...very busy on a Saturday night in January. We got the Med. sharing plate with house white (excellent) and it was loads for 2 people. Great atmosphere, great food, good value and lovely staff. Next time we're in Edinburgh we'll be swinging by here.

Was on my to-go list for a while and didnt dissapoint! Excellent showcase of Scottish cheeses, with a variety of meats, pickles, and chutney. Wine pairing was good, and definitely affordable! Waiters were friendly and polite. Overall, money well spent and I'll go again! My only complaint is that I wish I could request for crackers instead of oatcakes.

Pickles is the perfect place to stop in for a glass of wine and some cheese and meats. Super cozy and very good value for money. They do a bottle of wine and platter deal for approx. £40 and the portions are very generous. Also the other wines on selection and really good value not a rip off. Really nice staff and will definitely be back.

Always enjoy a visit to Pickles. They don't take bookings so be prepared to wait for a space if turning up during peak times. You can usually have a drink while waiting. The wine is always delicious and a great range. We also have a few platters, they're perfect additions and there's several options. The staff are always super friendly and offer great service. It's generally our 'go to' place whrn in the city.

Pickles does not take bookings and we were lucky to get a table as quickly as we did as the place was packed. simple menu of sharing plates, meats and cheese primarily served with bread, crackers, olives etc it might be simple but it was very well done and very tasty. good wine list with plenty of choice by the glass. staff were excellent and very friendly even though it was really busy

A limited menu delivered well is a delight and this menu didn’t disappoint. We had a sharing platter and the cheese and meat selections were plentiful and tasty. The decor was individual and quirky and the service was fun and friendly. If you’re looking for something different with bucket loads of character this is the place to go, it won’t disappoint.

Amazing venue, really intimate and lovely spot. Cheese and meat platter was amazing and really good value for money. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Quite a wait at 6.30 on a Friday which was to be expected but definitely worth the wait! Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

But I'm delighted to say, it hasn't. Fantastic little place, mixed platter of cheese and cold meats went down a treat. The chutneys and pate's were also excellent. Won't be leaving it as long before my next visit.

What a gem of a place! We had been wanting to try this bar for a while so we went for a couple of glasses of wine and a few pickles. Good value for money and the atmosphere is amazing. Will be going back soon.

The menu at Pickles primarily comprises a variety of cheese and cold meats, accompanied by bread and oatcakes, and is ideal for sharing. We arrived quite early (about 6 o’clock), as it’s walk-ins only, and we only just got in without having to wait for a table, as it’s very popular. We opted for the mixed meat & cheese sharing platter, which includes 4 different varieties of each plus some extras such as olives, pickles, chutneys, etc., and a bottle of house red (and a port to finish), and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The names of the various cheeses and meats were told to us when they were delivered, but faded from our flakey memories within seconds, one minor suggestion would be the addition of a blackboard listing them. The atmosphere was good, very lively, and the staff all managed to be both efficient and friendly. They brought more bread when we ran low, without our having to ask. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed Pickles.

We decided to check out Pickles without a booking. And the waitress was amazing. She explained that there were no tables but if we waited a couple would free up shortly and in the meantime we could wait by the bar. She served up nibbles to keep the hunger in check. And true to her word, the best table in the house was free and cleared for up. The sharing platter was tasty, proportionate for two, Farmhouse pate was sublime. Would definitely recommend the food and commend the service. Lovely mid week experience.

The £20 cheese platter can easily be shared by more than 2 people! Some interesting wines available, so it's worth ordering your wine and platter (cheese or meat) separately so you're not limited to the house wine.

We're big cheese fans, so we had to come here as part of a birthday celebration trip. We went on a rainy Wednesday night, but it was still super chill and welcoming. The staff were friendly and quick. We went for the wine and cheeseboard combo (It’s the law!) – Scottish cheeses were creamy, easy and spot on, but they defeated us with their portion sizes! Probably because we asked for more bread – Such a lovely spot! 🎉🍷🧀

We love cheese so this was a no-brainer as part of birthday celebrations. We visited on a rainy Wednesday evening, but the place still had a relaxed and buzzing atmosphere about it. Staff were friendly and efficient. We of course went for the wine/cheeseboard combo - delicious scottish cheeses and we were gutted that the portion sizes defeated us! Delightful place!

We lived in Edinburgh before moving to Australia and loved this place. Having come back for a visit a few friends we arranged a night out in Pickles for drinks and some food. It’s still a fantastic place with a great atmosphere and great staff. Some good wine, cheese and pate later, a great night was had by all. It felt like coming home - what more can you ask for!!

When ever I visit Edinburgh I try and come here. It is a hidden gem. Friendly staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I left a top there and rang the next day. I got a phone call back saying it had been found. Thank you for that and thank you for a lovely evening the night before. Well worth a visit.

After an absence of 7 years my wife and I returned to Pickles, other than expanding their premises nothing has changed. We opted for the mixed platter and a bottle of white wine combo and it was delicious. There was plenty for both of us and the ingredients are all fresh and hugely tasty. The atmosphere is really laid back and the staff are super friendly without being OTT. We certainly won’t wait another 7 years before we return again. Keep up the excellent work Pickles.

WHY…Have I not been here before now ?! We visited Pickles yesterday as part of my wife’s birthday day out. Apparently, my stepdaughter has been several times previously ( and I thought she couldn’t keep a secret ) We arrived as three and became five shortly after, seated in the front area, cool decor, totally relaxed vibe. Simple menu to follow, we chose 1 meat and 1 cheese platter and the chicken pâté. Very friendly smiley staff, a great way to spend, well, as long as you wish apparently. The food was flawless, more than enough, we grazed for a while, not as long as we’d have liked, but we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended, can’t fault my first experience. Way too good to keep secret.

We decided to try Pickles after reading it's excellent reviews. We can only echo what so many people have written - warm atmosphere, excellent attentive staff, a cheese board to die for combined with excellent reasonably priced wine what better way to spend an afternoon.

A local gem hidden away on broughton street in Edinburgh. Serving wine, cheese and meat in a comfortable relaxed setting. Quality produce at an axing price, this is now a favourite in our household, we’ll definitely be back!
