Lovely little place and the staff were all so welcoming and friendly. Food was amazing, the pistachio gelato was unforgettable

Small restaurant with a cozy atmosphere supposedly Italian - but did not taste like one at all. Pizza dough was hard as a rock and my partner was guessing that’s it was frozen due to the marks on the bottom. Tasted of nothing - ingredients were definitely not fresh and definitely not imported from Italy. Perhaps if one prefers British version of Italian cuisine it’s a place for you, but I would not come back. Service was lovely and atmosphere great too.

We loved our calleloni and sword fish. The meat sauce for pasta is full of flavour. The swordfish tastes divine in its salad and dressing. Must book before going, as it is highly popular. Highly recommended.

Another all five stars from me. The restaurant is very nice, location is easy to access. The one downside is that parking is quite limited in that area however, everything else is spot on. I would recommend to dine in for the best experience possible. The top five dishes I recommend are: 1. Cheesy garlic bread (whole) 2. Chefs Special Pizza 3. Pollo Pesto Pasta 4. Pollo Picollo Mondo chicken 5. King Prawns

Food was amazing. We went for my daughters 1st Birthday and they were so accommodating. Did a little cake with a candle and did not even charge. The waitress Tata was so lovely. Helped us with the menu and she went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. I would definitely recommend coming here.

We visited for a pre theatre meal on a Sunday evening. Excellent food and friendly waitress who was very helpful. Two of us had specials from the specials board, and two had pizzas. Very accommodating if we wanted to add or remove ingredients from any dish. Would highly recommend

I'm not normally one for leaving reviews - it seems we are pestered every time we purchase something these days and it does get a little tedious after a while. However, it must be something like 20 years since I last visited this restaurant and in-between-times I've lived on Jersey and had 3 different jobs! Now, having chosen to visit a restaurant I was bowled over by on my first visit and vowed to one day come back to, I have an urgent desire to actually leave a review. This restaurant is exactly the same as when I came last, two decades ago. What's more, the service and food are still impeccable. Put this restaurant on a street in Mayfair and they would be charging 5 times the price for 3 star Michelin accredited food. This little gem, tucked away in a most unassuming position is definitely worth booking a table at. Yes, booking! Amongst those who know it exists, it is generally rated their favourite and is top of their 'go-to' list when deciding where to eat out, so you will have to book, believe me! The food is honest Italian fare, freshly cooked and utterly delicious to boot. Do yourselves a favour and try this place, it is brilliant.

Me and my dad have been here a few times. The waiter remembered us well as treats us with the upmost care every time we go. The food is authentic and the Italian theme is not overdone

A true hidden gem! One of the few independent restaurants left in Southampton. I’m ashamed to say I totally forgot about this restaurant! It’s been around for a number of years. The best authentic Italian experience outside of Italy. The food was fresh and totally delicious, the service was excellent and the experience was top notch. Looking forward to coming back soon and I’ll make it regular this time. Thanks to the team, all the perfect ingredients to make a great restaurant.

Went in for a Birthday meal. Small but lovely venue. The service and food were amazing. I had the Steak which was good but had pasta envy..... Definitely will be back to try more of the menu!

Just the most fabulous little restaurant with a great atmosphere. Always very busy so would advise booking in advance. Run brilliantly by a small team, producing fabulous food and providing a great, friendly service. Our second visit, and not our last.

Sometimes you go to a restaurant regularly and you begin to forget it is special, that happened to me with Piccolo Mondo. My son goes to university in Southampton and every time I visit we go to Piccolo Mondo, as it is his favorite pizza anywhere. I’ve never had a bad meal but today reminded me how great it is. I started with the burrata special, which was incredible. Not only fresh and hearty portion of burrata, but a ton of prosciutto and great spices, so the cheese did not get overwhelming. I wasn’t that hungry so I ordered the prawns as a main, I was in awe at how many very large prawns I got. The butter/oil garlic sauce was also great, and even the salad that accompanied it was special. I’ve never been disappointed in the service, and this visit was again both friendly and efficient. I heartily recommend.

Small restaurant with a hearty service! Fantastic service from our waitress and very attentive. Food was absolutely amazing and very big portions. You will not leave hungry. Lovely little restaurant! The staff are so kind and accommodating, the service is excellent and they had no issues accommodating a large table. Would really recommend the antipasto starter, and all the mains dishes we ordered were delicious - they have a killer tomato sauce. We had a lovely time!

Spur of the moment reservation, literally 10 mins before walking through their doors! Lucky us. Very cheerful, welcoming and attentive staff. The food was wonderful, I had pasta (puttanesca) with tiramisu after. I cannot find fault with any of it. My friends enjoyed theirs equally. Wonderful atmosphere, cosy as it is quite small and intimate, but that's what makes it special. I will be back. Thank you.

My colleagues, friends and I have been going to Piccolo's for years and probably have lunchtime get togethers there every 3 months or so. Same unobtrusive and polite service, excellent authentic food and drinks choice and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Cannot recommend it enough and in my view, the best place for lunch in Southampton. Only just realised today I've never given the team there a review on all these years.

A very nice Italian with a classic Italian menu. It is very small and cosy but a nice atmosphere. The staff were also very kind.

As with all restaurants, huge mark-up on wine prices, but the food quality, the homely nature of the restaurant and excellent staff more than make up for that.

I had meant to lunch here on another visit to Southampton, but did not make it. And yes ! this is a really good place to recommend for a hearty delicious lunch, whether pizza or fish. Staff were caring, meals arrived fairly promptly. A small quibble, I would have preferred some larger potato portions, not the extremely tiny ones (approx 8) which were served. The creme brulee was very good.

A perfect authentic Italian restaurant. Must try their Pastas, Poretti Beer is also a must try here.

Splendid 70th! We booked out Piccolo Mondo for my husband's 70th birthday and it was brilliant! Excellent food, kind and attentive service and a lovely warm and welcoming ambience. We have been coming here for years and it is always good but Helder and his team really pushed the boat out for us. They were so helpful and accommodating both before the day and on the evening itself. I can't recommend highly enough.

We visited on a Sunday evening, at a private party. The staff were very helpful, organised and friendly. All the food was served quickly and efficiently- piping hot and delicious. We would very much recommend this restaurant for its excellent food and exemplary service.

not a real italian at all. I went to the one around the corner last time i came to southampton, so i thought i would check out this one due to the reviews. Shocking. Breadsticks in a packet, carbonara made with cream and not egg yolks. also microwaved as so hot untouchable yet cold on the outside. nice staff but sorry, shocking excuse for an italian. avoid. i understand southampton isnt the mecca for cuisine but i went here based on reviews. mistake. avoid, go to the one next door.

Very tasty classic Italian cuisine with great portions and prices. The staff are friendly and attentive and the setting is so authentic, just like it is in Italia - they worry more about the food being good than about the decor.

This is one of our favourite restaurants and a trip to Southampton provided enough of an excuse to treat ourselves. Service was as good as ever and the Calzone Pizza was excellent but was tempted by the Salsicce Alla Silciliana, another one of my faves.

We visited on a Saturday night. We rang early evening and they very kindly squeezed the 2 of us in. I would recommend booking ahead, unlike us! A small restaurant tucked around the back of the main strip of restaurants and bars Service was on point and all were very friendly too. Nice choice of all courses on the menu and an extensive specials board too. We had scallops and garlic bread to start and both had different pasta dishes for mains. Could not any of the food. I asked for a slightly obscure topping for my pasta which was not on the menu and they made it perfectly. We are not from around here but would highly recommend this place.

Great little restaurant that you could easily miss as it’s tucked down a side street that leads to nowhere. If you do visit though, you are in for a great time. The service is excellent, the waiting staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is also great, which is the main reason you visit a restaurant. Obviously they do pizza and pasta, but there’s a great range of other Italian dishes too. I don’t think it is very accessible for wheelchair users as it is very small inside and the toilets are down a narrow staircase. They do have a small outdoor seating area though with heat lamps which kept the cold off very well. Overall I was impressed and happy to have stumbled upon this charming little Italian restaurant.

Wonderful food cooked to perfection. Staff willing to change ingredients to accommodate personal preferences. My son has been taking me here as a birthday treat for years.Sometimes with friends, sometimes just us, the welcome is always friendly. Food is always cooked to high standard. Plenty of choices on the menu. Staff are helpful and friendly. The restaurant is always clean. Only small fault is the toilet is down some steep steps, not really suitable for disabled people.

My partner and I went on Saturday night for an early meal, having been once before and been very impressed. The waitress remembered us and even remembered that I struggle with big portions so recommend I had a smaller dish. The meal was delicious, the wine superb and the ambience is perfect, if you are looking for an authentic, family run Italian restaurant then look no further, can't wait to return.

A wonderful place we go to when we visit our daughter. Good reasonably priced food in a small cosy restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. It has always been busy (booking recommended). Can get warm as it is compact with close seating. I am sure we will be back soon

We went for dinner the night before we boarded a cruise ship having been recommended by another cruiser. We’ve eaten in a lot of Italian restaurants and have to say this one is right up there. Don’t be put off by the location or the size of the place. The reason for going to a restaurant is for the food and here it was superb. Unusually for a lot of Italian restaurants it also stayed hot for the whole time it took to eat it. There were clearly a lot of regulars in the place and we kept hearing remarks like ‘excellent as always’ My only gripe? When presented with the bill I wasn’t afforded the opportunity to add a tip! We will be back. Sadly as we live 190 miles away not as often as we’d like

Booked a meal at piccolo mondo, so glad we did, What a gem, parked across the road at civic centre, 5 minute walk to restaurant. The family run restaurant are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. All food was cooked fresh to order and was delicious, the young lady who served us was very knowledgeable about the food and wine choices. The restaurant has been in Southampton since 1969, you will not be disappointed, best to book though. We will definitely go back. Thankyou for a great time. Grazie , ciao till next time.

A little gem clearly loved by many. The restaurant is small and tucked away but pleasantly busy. Whilst inside you feel transported to a small local restaurant in Italy. There is quiet music however everyone is clearly enjoying themselves enough to talk over it. The food was delicious - we had the paté and king prawn starters (the prawns were a little bit over cooked however I am yet to eat an average price prawn that isn't) followed by the calzone and 'meat' cannelloni mains with cheesy garlic bread which were astonishing. I did not ask, however I am certain this restaurant make their own bread. I do however wish were were offered a bread basket or a bowl of olives on arrival instead of a packet of bread sticks to share. The service was fast, helpful and felt personal. We will absolutely be returning.

Yesterday my family and I went for dinner being a larger table of 10 people for my birthday. The food was amazing! I'm still thinking about it the next day on. Everything came out together and was all hot. The service is second to none, being friendly welcoming and always going the extra mile. I honestly can't explain how brilliant our experience was and I highly recommend everyone to visit!

We were accommodated on Friday evening 7th July at short notice after another restaurant cancelled our reservation with 15 mins notice. Most welcoming staff and excellent meal. I’m from Southampton and my late mother always loved this small family run Italian restaurant.
