09/08/21: Having visited on holiday a couple of years ago, we returned tonight and had an excellent meal. The food was piping hot and very tasty, The waiter (a local guy by the sound of him, behind the mask) was lovely - very attentive and helpful. We enjoyed the meal and evening enough to re-book for three days later, encouraged by the proprietor, who was positively gushing at the prospect. On a negative note, there were no obvious covid-19 arrangements in place apart from hand sanitizer and masks. No QR, no sign-in etc. 12/08/21: We returned, looking forward to another lovely meal. When the food arrived, the starter was luke warm, but it was only pancake rolls, so we weren't too concerned. Then the mains, rice and and noodles arrived. They were not only tepid, but one of the mains was the wrong dish, tasting strongly of peanuts rather than ginger and jalapenos. Thankfully, I don't have a nut allergy, so no damage was done, and we asked for the problems with the food to be rectified. When the food returned, with no noticeable apology, it was definitely warmer, but not hot. However, the 'peanut' meal still tasted strongly of nuts, the noodles had simply been re-heated and were horribly 'gloopy' and the whole meal was unpleasant. We had, by then, lost our appetites, and what should have been a lovely evening was wrecked. At the end of the meal, whilst the waiter was apologetic, no attempt was made to address our grievances or offer compensation. This was a very disappointing outcome, and £50 wasted. We will not be returning. Lerwick isn't over-endowed with places to eat in the evening, but I suggest you avoid this one, based on our most recent experience.

Had a takeaway from this place this evening as its lockdown times.Ordered two mixed starters and a green curry chicken and sticky rice. Was given one starter instead of two...thankfully as it turned out as mostly it was inedible. The prawn toast was acceptable but the chicken satay was simply laughable as you will see from the pic of the sauce which was all that was served as per pic.The green curry chicken was eaten but a thin flavourless sauce. Sticky rice was ok.Not a place I could recommend or will visit again.

I ordered a sit-down meal from the takeaway menu and was charged £19.25 vs £14.10. I thought this was a substantial mark up for eating-in, but blamed myself for not checking the eat-in menu prices first. I trusted the lady and didn’t check. On my second visit, I ordered a single £5 takeaway dish. The lady attempted to charge me £6 for this. I assumed that I must have an out of date menu, so this time, checked the ones on the counter. They were the same as mine. I pointed this out and without argument, was charged the correct price of £5. Whilst the food was quite nice, if a little sweet, I can’t stand being ripped-off, so won’t be returning to this restaurant.

In fairness, the restaurant was overwhelmed by an unusually high customer turnout on a Monday evening. The attending manager needed to call her daughter in to help! They managed not to keep people waiting too much but the food seemed to betray the rush. The available choice was varied but I do not think I would rush back there. Even in July, however, Lerwick does not welcome the travelling diner: little capacity; early closing etc.

I found limited options to eat around Lerwick during my stay, as someone who can't eat seafood - my options were reduced even more. When I found this place I figured I'd give it a go - and returned the next 2 nights. The place was simple and empty when I ate there - but I ate early so it may get busier later in evening. The service was friendly and simple - it isn't claiming to be a 5 star restaurant and it doesn't need to be. There's a large selection of choices and the meals I ate were great. If I return to Lerwick, I'll return here.

Welcoming atmosphere - the restaurant was clean and tidy. However, it was one of the worst Thai meals I’ve ever had. It wasn’t that the food wasn’t edible (it was) or that the food arrived arrived cold (it arrived relatively hot) but:...it was expensive for what it was (£47)...the prawns, across the different dishes, were translucent and undercooked...the “seafood sizzler” came warm and sitting in a pool of watery sauce....all the ‘seafood options’ were that of the prawns (very few - 2 or 3 per dish) and too many baby mussels (the frozen variety you can get in supermarket). The seafood sizzler mentioned earlier was a mains priced at £14.There aren’t many restaurants in Lerwick for evening meals, and the Phusiam had many positive reviews on tripadvisor. For those returning to Aberdeen from Lerwick, I highly recommend Madame Kew’s in Aberdeen market. My partner and I had a far superior meal for less than half the price compared to the Phusiam.

On our first night in Lerwick in self-catering accommodation very close to Phu Siam, we decided to grab a takeaway for the four of us, largely based on the Tripadvisor reviews and because we hadn't had a Thai meal in ages. Whilst the sticky rice was very good, our main meals were variable in quality. I had the green curry, which tasted fine but the curry sauce was very thin. The quality of the chicken was mediocre. The yellow curry was much better. Our friends had the red curry and weren't too impressed. We didn't return during our week's stay.

It was nicely presented and served by the owner herself, who was welcoming and helpful and whose graciousness contributed to a pleasant occasion. This is a fairly small restaurant so not suitable for large parties, but perfect for small groups of friends or couples. There was very little to indicate you were sitting in a Thai restaurant other then the staff. The furnishings were comfortable but no atmosphere. There were two prawn dishes on the starter menu, so I ordered the pepper prawns. I was so disappointed when I was served four (freezer food shop) thickly battered prawns on a bed of shredded dry cabbage with a chilli dip. Shetland has a wealth of fresh seafood on its doorstep, so there is no excuse to use bulk buy pre-made seafood. The Thai green chicken curry should have been described as soup with a little offering of chicken. I will not comment on the taste as everyone has different views on taste. The portions were large. I was sitting with my back to a large flat screen which I believe was showing Thai programs and at the other end of the restaurant two female staff members were sitting slouched out at a table watching the screen. I missed the warm Thai welcome and atmosphere which I have witnessed in other Thai restaurants.

When I questioned this, the waitress told me she did not know what to say and shortly after this, the chef came out but was extremely hard to understand - I think he told me the dish had been changed but the menu had not. As I ate very little of my main, I decided to order a banana split but the waitress presented me with a banana fritter. We were working in Shetland for a week in April and ate here twice. We weren't planning on doing that, but we enjoyed it so much the first time we went back for a 2nd evening. I'm not a great lover of Thai food, but I really did enjoy the various veggie dishes that I had and my carnivore friend demolished everything that was put in front of him and then raved on about it all endlessly. Will be going back for another week in July and will definitely be going back. Highly recommended!

Don't go here unless you are prepared to wait over an hour for your food. We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down. I counted 14 people in the restaurant waiting for their food. After an hour my husband got up and asked the owner what was taking so long. "We have a busy take out business" she said. The diners are put behind all the take out orders. It was 1 1/2 hours to get our order. It was stifling hot in the building,no windows and the server told us to choose between rices with our dinners. We thought it was included. The bill came it wasn't. We paid over $50USD for our dinner we waited 1 1/2 hours to get and took us 15 minutes to eat. We talked to the owner again when we left and she didn't seem to care. The takeout business was over by then. There were 4 unserved diners left. The food was so so. Our meals were overcooked.

OK, so by London standards, this Thai is somewhat mundane, but for Lerwick, it's worth checking out. The 'foreign' cuisine on offer in Lerwick (which is the MAIN town of the whole of the Shetland Islands, remember), is somewhat lacking in pizzazz. It's OK, but all a bit 1970s, sometimes. There's nothing wrong with that, but this Thai produces some nice tasty dishes which look right and don't come awash with gooey or dayglo sauces. Good, friendly atmosphere and a lot of regulars make for a nice relaxed time.

We went here for a quick dinner on a saturday night. The food was very very tasty. The lady who served us gave fantastic service and really tried hard to make sure we ordered something we would like. The only negative was that as there was only 4 of us in the restaurant at the time it was echoingly quiet and that made it hard to enjoy the whole dinner. When they did put music on to soften the atmosphere... "war was over" in May wasn't quite what the diners expected :) did make us laugh - worth a visit!

Pretty amazing Thai food at very reasonable prices but no atmosphere whatsoever and an unwelcoming entrance through the take-away.Shame because the food is special.

Went here for a meal. Lovely staff and good atmosphere. We had the mixed starter platter which was excellent. Asked if they would give us half an hour until the next course which was no problem. We had the Thai red wine which was lovely. I had the sirloin steak in hot curry sauce. Not a huge steak but plenty. The sauce and veg was a very tasty and the veg decorations a lovely touch. One bowl of rice and one portion of noodles did four of us. Had hot banana in coconut and ice cream. Best meal we've had in ages will definitely be back

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant just recently this week as we've never tried Thai food before. The food seemed very appetising from its menu on their website but showed a bit too little detail on what were the ingredients in some of their dishes, once we made our order and phoned the restaurant it took a while for the person on the receiving end of the phone to hear what we were ordering. After we got our takeaway, the food we hoped would be delicious was more or less disapproving. The prawn tempura was half cooked, the spring rolls were a bit tasteless and the chicken on sticks were a bit spicy for liking (as I said, it was our first try on Thai food cuisine). I had a Thai-style sweet and sour chicken with "lots of mixed vegetables" it said on the website, I reasonably disappointed to find only green beans and leafy greens, probably cabbage but not sure, the sauce was very spicy and watery while the chicken was very good but the sauce did overpower my taste buds as I needed a pint of milk or two as I don't particularly like foods which are spicy. All in all, we'd stick to Chinese and Indian restaurants as well as takeaways because there's plenty of them in the town!

Excellent meal, lovely staff, and a wide choice on the menu. The owner asked me "Why you like Thai food? Have you been to Thailand?" which was hilarious. Next time I am in Lerwick I will definitely be popping in.

So Lerwick has a great Thai place! Who would have thought? Everything was very fresh and tasty. I had the tiger prawn green curry, which had the perfect amount of heat. Very reasonable pricing.

Cold dark windy wet Shetland evening. So a cosy Thai resturant with freshly cooked spicy Thai food was very welcome. Good Tom Yum soup and spicy seafood dish. We enjoyed the elderly chef coming through to ask us how we liked our food Marking their first birthday this weekend and worth a visit if you enjoy Thai food.

Popped in while at the Accordion and Fiddle festival. Several other diners on a Sunday evening. Ambiance maybe not all that inspiring but food delicious and service pleasant and very quick. We were in and out in 70 mins! We both at Menu A and found it delicious. I loved the green curry. I'd certainly go again next time I'm in Lerwick because the king/tiger prawn dishes on nearby tables looked amazing. I second a previous reviewer comment on the coffee - it was extremely weak and not hot. I'd skip it next time. Overall a quick and very tasty meal. Well done.

Lovely freshly made food ! Exceptional beef steak salad great for sharing as large portion lovely and flavoursome price tag is almost £11 so prob meant for sharing ! My hubby loves the duck phusiam. Good service. If I was being picky the coke is from a large bottle so was slightly flat :( restaurant is slightly lacking in ambience as is already mentioned in another review but the cleanliness and the food makes up this shortfall, but not really a romantic venue if it's what your looking for.

Went here for lunch with a friend - excellent value lunch menu and the food we got was delicious. The only criticism was the service and ambience of the place was quite strange. There was little atmosphere. (Also the diet coke was from a large bottle and was flat). The food was very good and I will return however will maybe get a takeaway next time!

This little restaurant gives "Baroc" (the chinese nearby" a definite run for its money: clean, comfortable place with delightful staff. An interesting menu and clearly freshly cooked food. This could easily become a local favourite! Mixed starters were really good; as was the Thai green curry with chicken and the satay / noodles. Singha beer and some lovely looking desserts available (but not tried). The restaurant loses 0.5 from excellent because the after meal coffee was lukewarm, bland and tasteless (obviously not a traditional Thai drink!). Stick to the Thai food and you will not be disappointed.

Just returned from a 4 day trip to Shetland, and whilst the outside of the restaurant may not look that inviting the inside, and in particular the food and charismatic nature of Ura (who seemed to the head waiter), could not be faulted, and more than made up for it.It was a little quieter on the Friday when we first went so Ura was able to chat to us, and explain a bit more about the menu, but we enjoyed the meal so much that we returned the next night for our last night. The restaurant actually has 2 floors and they were kind enough to accommodate us the second night even though they had a couple of large parties in.Definitely worth a visit, as the food (I had the chicken massam) was excellent and my brother in particular enjoyed the Tiger prawns which he had 2 nights in a row.

7 of us went and every single one of us enjoyed both our starters and main course. The food was delicious and the staff were helpful. The food came quite quickly even though there were several big tables in .Overall I was very impressed as I had heard some not great things about the place. The only thing that let it down for me was the price of a bottle of wine.

We dined at Phusiam last night, not having been there for about 6 months. The menu has changed, but has a lot of variety, and is quite reasonably priced. We had coconut cream soup with chicken and mushroom, and minced prawn and chicken on toast. The soup was excellent, while the other was a nice twist on the usual prawns on toast. For our main course I had a chicken yellow curry - excellent. I much prefer yellow curry to red or green, but it is not everywhere you can get it. My wife chose a chicken stir-fry (more Chinese than Thai) which was also very tasty. We had no room for anything else - lovely food well presented. It's a pity the restaurant wasn't busier - but that's the fault of us locals not supporting it. If you think you might not like Thai food - still go! They have a number of Chinese dishes, and can temper the Thai dishes to your taste - the chef was at our table a few times to make sure everything was ok (and we didn't request anything to be changed from the menu). Excellent value!

I was so excited to see that Lerwick now has a Thai restaurant and made plans to get a takeaway as soon as possible. Having spent time in Thailand, I know what genuine Thai food tastes like...and this was it! The menu includes a few standard Chinese takeaway staples but I stuck to the Thai meals and was not disappointed. Of particular note was the Thai red curry and Tom Kha soup - both were deliciously fragrant with just the right amount of spice. There is a good range of meals and levels of spiciness to suit all palettes. As a takeaway it's not particularly cheap, but even still it's worth every penny!

We had dinner at Phusiam. The decor was a bit spartan but the service was welcoming. The menu has a mix of Thai and Chinese dishes to choose from and in our party we sampled main courses of a red curry, a green curry, garlic spare ribs and duck. Starters included pepper prawns (disappointing because there didn't seem to be any pepper and they were covered in a sort of spring roll pastry), fish cakes and spring rolls. The curry's were good, hot and spicy and the spare ribs tender and meaty. The fish cakes were also pretty authentic with a nice dipping sauce.Overall a decent meal to a reasonable standard.

ate here as a group in June 2014, frankly a farce, even getting a simple drinks order caused utter pandemonium with the staff who just seemed totally unaware of what was going on, the food order also got all mixed up and confused, although the food we got was quite good, I just don't think it was everything we ordered!!
