Peri-Peri Original in St Albans

Awful staff - muggings regularly happen outside this establishment and CCTV camera apparently never works. Unsafe place to visit after dark. Avoid!

worst chicken shop I ever been to, have you ever been to Nando's paid for your meal and then tell you that you got to pay for your source. half of teaspoon of source for 30p. places like this should not be allowed to be open on our street to rip people off.

This place is great to get the tasty chicken from! Chicken and peri peri sauce should be compulsory eats!

This chicken shop is reborn on a regular basis as far as I can make out, and is now branded as Peri Peri Original, which is a franchise. There have been some bad previous reviews (perhaps to do with previous incarnations, but on the day I went, I had a very good experience. I ordered the full hot Peri Peri chicken to take away and as they had run out of peri chips, I had to make do with ordinary ones. The food was extremely tasty and appeared to have been freshly cooked. The staff were courteous and it was a bargain. I would be very hesitant to eat-in there if I were over 18y of age, but I will definitely use it again as a take away. Fried chicken is now a bit if a national institution as cheap filling takeaway food. Whilst I would have concerns about this being the staple convenience food of the younger generation, it definitely has its place. A sort of downmarket Nando's.

Been there quite a few times , ABSULOTELY delicious , I was very happy indeed with what I got brilliant . the staff are extremely friendly and tended to my every need , you must go there , you will be very happy

Decided to try here after a recent re furb and was left bitterly disappointed. The place was extremely dirty- tables not cleaned and much on the floor. Ordered a Giant Chicken Fillet burger which took an eternity to arrive and when it did it was completly tasteless along with lukewarm chips. Will not be trying here again.

dirty place gross chicken pervy staff! ive seen the staff coughing onto their clothes, ive seen them drop a cloth on floor pick it up and use it, ive seen a filthy rag being used in preparation of food. the chicken is bland and slightly smells of bleach and slimy!! the cooks blatantly perv on women who go in it is disgusting.

I called and placed an order for 5 work colleagues an myself and was told the delivery time would be an hour. This wasn't ideal but we were all eating in so we could carry on with our work in the mean time. I called after an hour, an hour and 15, and hour and 25 mins and was told repeatedly that the deliver driver was on his way and that they were quite busy. I unfortunately had to go out of the office before the delivery came so went without lunch. I have spoken to my work colleagues this morning and they all complained about the quality of not only the chicken but all of the sides. We will NEVER order from this company again and wish we could have our money refunded as the quality and service this place provides is substandard.

I telephoned during the day to ask if they were delivering.. they said no which I accepted. Half an hour later the manager phoned me and asked if I still wanted delivered food. I was starving so I was very pleased to have placed an order. The approx delivery time was an hour but he said he'd try to get there sooner. Hour later manager said the driver was just walking out of the door. I live less than 10mins drive away. 20mins later and driver is still on his way to me!! 1hr 40mins lata the driver is apparantly outside! 2hrs later and I had to finally cancel the order. Manager offered to give me the food for £10 which I stupidly accepted! Manager actually delivered the food himself!! Food was awful, brown lettuce, rock hard, cold stale chips and chicken burger, sauce on chicken (which was sizzling hot) was undercooked and only half of my order in bag!!! I AM NEVER EVER GOING THERE AGAIN! RUINED MY DAY AND APPERTITE.

This is a great spot if you enjoy peri peri. I strongly recommend the tasty rice, with hot chicken strips. If you eat in you get a real plate , cutlery and nice side salad. The stock levels can be hit and miss at the end of the night , but go for what ever they have. It's very tasty. Staff are friendly , and nothing is too much trouble , enjoy !

For £16 for a medium family meal deal you get a tramendous amount of food which is super fresh, and never seems to go down when your eating it

I'm reviewing this purely on the basis of the "extra hot" peri peri. The sauce is unbelievable, it's full of flavour and unbelievably hot. I like a good Phaal at the curry house but the extra hot wings blow any curry I've had out of the window in terms of heat. Now the downside, the admin is a bit "work in progress" sometimes the delivery is a bit slow and occasionally when it's busy it can be a bit overdone. This is a relatively new establishment and it is my hope that this can be sorted. I suppose the benchmark for a good peri peri is Nandos, this place is much MUCH nice. Overall, I generally get a takeaway from here twice a month. Top tip - go for the mixed (or mega if you want to feed 3 lads) platter and replace the strips with wings.
