Pepe's Fish & Chips in Luton

Two hour wait for delivery. Phoned up to enquire and said traffic is bad. we are only two miles away. Then said order it's just left. Rude will never be using again. Just terrible.

Years ago this was the best place in Luton. Won awards and all. Now been taken over and it’s lost the lot. Backyard traders have now run it into the ground by going cheap.. another place in Luton gone to pot!

Thought I’d give this place ago as my other half keeps banging on how good they are, how many rewards etc they’ve received. Wasn’t blown away, a 10 minute drive home and the chips were soggy, cold and stuck to the paper, sausage was tasteless and overall it was just wasn’t what I was hyped up for. I’m assuming it’s changed management since it’s glory days and corners are being cut?

The delivery was within the time slot given. Food was luke warm, the battered sausage looked limp and overcooked, the chips were rotten to the core...cold, hard and unbearable. Curry sauce was good but cold. This is far the worst meal I have had from there, and now will not return.

After waiting over 2 hours for food, with no explanation or apology, food was barely lukewarm, items forgotten, and when I spoke on the phone was cut off before I could even finish speaking, won't be recommending or ordering from again.

Our order took two hours to arrive and when we rang to chase the order we got a different lie every time, poor service!

2 hours of waiting for the delivery, being lied to by the restaurant that our food is "10 mins away" 3 times. Gave up in the end and cancelled the order.

Food was disgusting the salad in the burger was yellow and brown & slimy absolutely rotten. Battered sausage was soggy & curry sauce thick & stodgy NEVER AGAIN Absolutely disgusting & disappointing 😡

Warmed up from lunchtime menu. Shriveled up sausages, cold in the middle pie, awful chips that tasted days old.

I’ve been to this place a few times but I’m done with this restaurant for good. What kind of professional establishment would look at this lettuce and still put it in the burger?! This was clearly mouldy and out of date! Shocking. Last time I ordered from here there was a hair in my food. I don’t know how they have a 5 hygiene rating and that needs to be reevaluated. Waste of money and time.

Friday night Uber delivery order said 45-65 minutes delivery but two hours later it arrived! Fish was excessively greasy and soggy, chips were so awful we threw half of them away. Curry sauce was good. I have ordered a few times and it’s only saving grace is if you order mid week. I won’t be ordering again as fish & chips are not cheap and a treat is suppose to be something to look forward to!

Fish always good, chips somewhat lacking

They won't send your food but will tell you 3 times its on the way , or just leaving the shop now. They will then close and avoid your calls aswell as deliveroos phone calls. This was my first time ordering and ovbiously the last , good luck to your shop if this is how you conduct yourselves.

Large portion of chips today absolutely disgusting never go there again

Been coming here for years but steadily going down hill, very poor service, seemed they were concentrating on delivery orders and customers through the door came second. Didn't even ask if I wanted salt and vinegar on my chips 😪 food still good though 👍

This place has gone down hill since being taken over. The fish seems be so dry compared to previous owners and less fish now too

As always a good size portion and quick to serve, but get in early as the queues soon form outside.

Lovely Cod and Chips tasty and hot and also great service

Been waiting nearly 3 hours for my delivery!!!! We have rung them and all we keep getting is it will be 20mins , ordered at 6:45 and it's now 9:45 If you want your kids to eat late then be sure to check this place out Disgusting!!!!

Excellent food the young lady that served me was very polite and prepared my order to perfection. I explained I had to get to caddington and needed the food to be hot when I got there. When the food was unpacked it was pipping hot and we all enjoyed our chippy tea. I would recommend Pepes Fish Bar to anyone who asked for a good takeaway. The chips were disgusting straight out of the Friar Straight into the bag Greasy Cannot describe it. Plus as well I was overcharged by 10p not the end of the world But still if you can't do basic maths how can you cook a decent fish-and-chips

First time visiting here tonight. Brought the haddock, cod, chips and saveloy. All of it was cooked amazingly and tasted really good. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back there.

A good portion of well cooked traditional fish and chips and decent onion vinegar. Sufficient for two people to share and was worth the wait and always busy!

The staff were rude and the portions small compared to the previous owner when I asked for few more chips I was frowned on even though I said I would pay for the extra this was not the first time and I was not made to feel they value there customers someone who has been coming here for years and use pepe’s for some very large group orders in the excess of £400 + at a time it’s a shame but I will not and have not used or recommended Pepe’s to any of by friends and clients. Sorry never again.

Lovely place went in just before closing and thay gave us free food as it was the end of the night food was really nice

Was quite surprised, quite good both the fish and chips, I've visited thousands of fish and chips it's my line of work and this is probably one of the better ones in luton, because all the others apart from wigmore are bad

It's owned by a Bangladeshi. Looool what does a bengali know about fish n chips? Nothing racist about my comment. Its like asking a Spanish to cook u a curry. The taste won't ever be on point nor authentic.

Sadly not as good as used to be. More than a bit disappointed. Cod and chips, fish was dry and quite small for a "regular" piece. Chips were ok.

Had one price on the menu another in the window and another in the shop 😂 absolute joke when I mentioned was told it will be more expensive for you tommorow wow great service food was mediocre at best waste of money and was made to feel as small as the portion of chips I got won't be going again and you shouldn't either apparently won awards not with that management should be made to take the signs down just avoid. Shocking! Food was so over cooked and dry. Quarter pounder came as 2 burgers in a bun. No salad, cheese or sauce. So disappointing. Now I know why I haven't had food from there for years! Mr Chips in Dunstable is so much nicer than this!

In 2010 through to 2018 this place was the best place to get your taste of fish & chips know as it's under new management it's hit the fan from poor quality of food to just plain horrible the chips have either mold or are used days later or if your lucky some hair as for the oily taste it will never leave your mouth in short don't waste your time ordering from them make your own

Found several hairs on the chips, the Veg burger was tasteless. Phoned to let them no about hairs, was offered to send more chips, but didn't want them, manager said someone will collect the food what we left, half hour or so he phone me, practically accusing me of lying, he can't see any hair. Customer service is absolutely disgusting. Will never go there again!

If I could give zero stars I would. We have a very very sick household today. I’m lucky I only had the battered sausage (which was burnt with hardly any batter) as I feel fine but my 1 year old baby and husband shared a portion of chips, and they are both incredibly sick today. Im Fuming, it’s Not acceptable at all.

Some friends recommended a visit and I can see why! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was fresh, delicious and was prepared quickly and accurately whilst I was there. My fish of choice was not available at that moment in time, so an alternative was recommended - it was perfect. I would definitely visit again!

I read the reviews and waited for them to open and wow ! What a fantastic chippy ! Probably the best curry sauce I've ever had and the chips are the real deal. Like a chippy should be.

Perfection, that's the word that comes to mind when I think of Pepe's Chippy. Everytime we visit the food is consistent, tasty and the portions just right. The staff are extremely friendly as well which makes it even more enjoyable. Keep the great Work guys 🥰

Chips weren't as nice as they could of been but l did visit at 1.30pm and they close at 2pm. Will definitely be back to try earlier. Man serving was very nice and friendly

Being an amulance driver I can always smell the fresh food driving down dunstable road!! They have remained open throughout the pandemic filling our keyworker bellies!! Friendly fast service!

Chips were hard, pale and many bruised and green. Sausage in batter was very small and tasted horrble, No value for money.

Lovely chips Yesterday we had a takeaway from pepes fish n chips..my stepdaughter said it was good so we ordered...took nearly an hour for delivery but with covid etc its ok i understand its going to be a bit busier.. We had 3 cods 2 battered sausage 2 large chips and 2 curry sauce ...it was over £30...ive paid more for fish and chips ..anyways honest review personally my large cod was more a tail piece very hard and hardly any cod inside not happy...my wife and mother in laws mediums were ok apparently ...i have to say the chips and curry sauce were very good indeed..if id nust had that id a been happy...sadly the battered sausage was very hard and i would say a reheat...such a shame ill eat chips from here again and curry sauce but nothin else

The chips tasted and looked like they had been cooked at lunch time and reheated at 5pm for the afternoon rush as for the lovely cod i was looking forward too as a treat i have seen a bigger sardine it was all batter it looked like one piece of cod had been sliced in half and sold as two pieces not impressed and wont be going back i thought this was award winning chippy Far from it!

We had two cod and a large potion of chips. The batter on cod was so dark it looked like it had been left over from lunch and recooked, it was so dry and hard thats the batter and fish. Chips were brown and dry we tried both the fish and chips but were so bad we couldn't eat them. What a waste of money.

Haven't used this place for ages, it used to be really good. However not very good now. The fish was good, medium cod. The chips were dry, tasteless and overcooked. Will not be returning. I think it's run by different people now.

ordered placed at 18.24. as soon as possible delivery. time for delivery was scheduled for 19.55. not happy (2 starving children) oh well. waited until then. still nothing. i decided to put the oven on at 20.20 then i got a updated time to 20.35. still nothing. i asked for money back and was refused. im still waiting as i write this review at 20.54. oven dinner it is tonight! avoid at all costs! children arent happy. they are starving. im really not happy. neither is my partner. they can keep the £24 !!!!!!!!! JOKE

Went there at 430pm as it opens.V disappointed.Tasted like chips not cooked properly.Wife had chicken which she did enjoy.Its v hard to get a decent fish chip shop in Dunstable.Wont be going back here for a while

We were regulars here for over 10 years due to the excellent fish and chips , plus great longstanding staff .We continued after the change over However the food and service has been disappointing .

The food was mouth watering and served in a timely fashion. Came here with my family into the family room. Well built and developed.

Had a delivery this evening It was awful not freshly cooked. Had i been in the shop i would have refused that piece of fish. The first picture shows the burnt edge and second one the base. It should have been golden brown not like this. No way should they be serving fish like this

This is the first time I’ve used Pepe’s & it is the last time I will use it..people have always told me how nice there food is & I should try it, so we ordered takeaway for 4 of us, it did arrive the time they stated & was piping hot but the fish didn’t look very appetising & half of the chips where raw, I had a pukka pie but It didn’t look like the branded pukka pie (maybe there own pies).. they say first impressions & sad to say mine wasn’t good so will not be using pepe’s again ...

Pepe's has won awards over the years for the quality of their food. It changed hands a year or so ago, and it is good that the new owners have kept up the good standard - and they have even extended the range of food offered. Can't say they are the cheapest prices, but in this case you pay for what you get, that is for example, a decent sized piece of fish.
