Peerie Shop Cafe in Shetland Islands

Truth be told I more popped into this place to use the facilities but I killed 2 birds as I needed a coffee too. Great to see that they are using Check in Scotland which makes things much easier than having to write out your details. When you do get inside, the place does live up to its name, as it is small even before taking SD into account!The latte that I had was very nice indeed and I made a point of saying so as I left to continue my travels in Lerwick.

What we appreciated about this place was that they endeavour to use local produce whenever possible and bake everything themselves. The only thing that caught us out was that you order as you enter, before being sitted, and pay at the same time. Good selection of home baking and pleasant coffee. The attached shop is nice to browse as well.

I wish the owners would do something about the ventilation in this place. It reeks of a mingling of stale food and is quite nauseating. Always very crowded, with not much thought given to maintaining proper spacing out in these Covid times. The soup is invariably cold, and the stench is so overpowering that I don't see how anyone can enjoy their food. But then, some people aren't fussy where and what they eat. Also the staff are quite unfriendly and need to be taught how to be more welcoming.

This is a great cafe to visit for breakfast/ light bites/ cakes. The food was really lovely and the service was great too!

This is a great place to stop for coffee and a cake. The cheesecake is to die for and the scones and strawberry tarts were really good too!

The soup and sandwiches were very good but the lady at the door was very unwelcoming and brusk which rather spoilt the ambiance of this nice venue.

Popped in for a coffee and cake . Obviously during these times with Covid-19 things are different but having been to other cafes in Lerwick I didn’t find unfriendly staff . The coffee was ok the egg mayo sandwich again ok but a tad tasteless. It’s a shame the staff couldn’t be just a bit more welcoming and I might have given it another go .

Conveniently located in the heart of Lerwick...had a fabulous breakfast there one morning... I highly recommend this restaurant.

After the rubbish service at Mareel, we came here on recommendation...Salt beef Panini was AMAZING! The staff were lovely and it didn’t take 20 minutes for a coffee. Stairs are a tad precarious but the place is lovely overall.

My husband and I went here twice, once on our own and again to meet some local friends. Both visits the shop was very busy. I always think it's telling when locals are visiting a shop, not just tourists! Despite the busyness the staff were wonderful, they kept everything moving and the service was high quality. Also their coffee and cakes were delicious. With disabled access in mind, there are limited tables downstairs that are accessible. There is a step down into the shop. The loos are up a twisty flight of stairs (an open circular staircase) and there is more seating upstairs.We will stop by here again when we are next in Shetland!

We had lunch in the Peerie Cafe when we first visited Lerwick & I was over the moon to find they had gluten free cakes. And the GF chocolate brownie I had with my delicious hot chocolate was equally yummy. My kids also ate everything they chose which is quite unusual. We tried to go back for a 2nd visit but this is a very popular little cafe so we couldn't get a table. But we'll definitely revisit if we can manage to get a table next time we visit Shetland.

This was the only place I visited in Shetland that left me feeling disappointed. We stopped in on the Wednesday after Up Helly Aa so maybe they were tired and that is the reason for surly service!! When I went to order I asked a question about diet drink selection and an older women not the girl serving says read the board!!! First of all the board was overcrowded with information, two I couldn’t see that information there. There was no queue so by asking a question I wasn’t creating a line however by the time I scanned the boards and the girl then had to answer my question someone else was waiting. I ordered a scone as was to put off to ask about other things on display or in menu. The scone wasn’t great it required both jam and butter to help it as it was incredibly dry. The young girl serving was lovely but the surly attitude and poor quality scone will ensure I certainly won’t return. This was the only place in Lerwick were a negative attitude in staff was demonstrated at such as busy time.

Perfect stop for breakfast off the ferry. Wonderful fresh cooked food and coffee. We revisited several times during our stay and were never disappointed.

This quiet cafe, tucked away in Lerwick harbour is a find! Outstanding baked goods, wonderful sandwiches, delicious tea, and very friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi, too. I loved eating here, and wished I'd stayed here longer so that I could have come back for another visit.

We came here three times as it was so good. The porridge, scones and other baked goods were delicious. The owner appears to be a bit grouchy. But the remaining staff was lovely.

Really good food - home made and full of flavour. Friendly staff who clearly take a pride in their job. Good prices and a pleasant atmosphere. Great place to go for lunch in Lerwick.

During our stay in Lerwick we had breakfast twice at the Peerie cafe as it was the best and opened at 8am. which was a plus.

This is a friendly cafe with a good variety of sandwiches, soups and desserts. The line moves quickly and everything we tried was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Bakewell tart with a cup if tea. Definitely worth seeking out on a day in Lerwick.

You know that whatever you get at this little place will be home-cooked and made with good fresh ingredients and no messing about. Such a fantastic range of lovely things, really quite exceptional for such a small place.

The delicious food was undercut by the unfriendly staff. I was a little shocked since every other shop/restaurant staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. I got the sense that they were tired of helping tourists. Perhaps it's been a long summer?

We popped into this place for a sneaky coffee and cake on a Monday - perhaps no one’s favourite day of the week but definitely not in this place. We were met by a woman taking our order who you could see was throughly peed off - she did warm up and was a bit friendlier but it took a while. We both ordered coffee and scones with jam and cream.

A lovely place directly at the harbour. Very friendly and authentic staff, good cakes and teas - and the possibility to sit outside was a good thing and very rare in Lerwick.

Turn left after docking, drive towards Lerwick and park across the road in Victoria Pier car park, then in here for breakfast. They open at 8:00 and offer really excellent breakfasts including fantastic scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or bacon. The portions are great and quality perfect. Really nice people, too. Free Wi-fi. Thoroughly recommended and we’ll be back for lunch soon.

I was very unimpressed to say the least about this cafe today. Came in and the place was busy but they had 7 staff members working and the table's were disgusting. We sat down a guy came to clear the table wich look like a hassle to him, we expected him to wipe the table after but he didnt. He came with our food and I had to ask him to wipe the table for us. He came back with a damp paper towel and dusted off it slightly. The coleslaw definitely wasnt fresh and neither was the tuna. He past us the cutlery with his hand on the top where you eat from. The same guy also carried bagles I asume from a store with his bare hands and stacked up onto his dirty tshirt which he had previously wiped his nose in. The place could really do with a hoover and a mop and a visit from environmental health.

Off the overnight ferry and wanting coffee and breakfast, we hit on the Peerie by accident - what a pleasure. Warm, welcoming with decent coffee and a very fine breakfast served by efficient and pleasant people. Yes I'm going back tomorrow.

We popped in here for breakfast the morning of my birthday. By 8.15am it was already busy, and that was a good sign. I had scrambled eggs on toast and the scrambles were amazing. I would definitely return as this was a great cafe with fab food.

We went quite early in the morning when it was still fairly quiet and had lovely hot coffee and fresh scones - would definitely recommend a visit.

I ate here more than once during my 4 days in Shetland. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is fantastic. Hot coffee, hot chocolate, soup and cranberry and Scottish brie paninis... YUM!

We seemed to gravitate towards the Peerie Shop Cafe over our time in Lerwick. Always busy but the young staff were great, cleaning tables, taking away dishes and making you welcome. Coffee was outstanding as was the cakes, scones etc. A must to visit.

My partner and I came here for lunch when visiting Lerwick. It was busy and there was limited seating but we were able to get a table luckily! I got a gluten free panini (they also do gluten free sandwiches) and my partner had a sandwich. He said the bread was really good. Both were good and tasty but pretty small for the price paid and you also have to pay extra for coleslaw or side salad which I found a little strange. I also got a gluten free (and dairy free) peanut butter cookie which was delicious and a good chai tea latte. Overall, a nice lunch in a very pleasant café with interesting filling options but in my opinion it is expensive for what it is and they also don't have a lot of choice beyond sandwiches, paninis or soup. Would be good to have options such as baked potatoes or salads available!

At the Peerie Shop Cafe, you'll find the tourists squeezing next to the locals, not only because they have the best food (they do), but also because us the ambiance and feel of the cafe, a place that takes great care to make tourists (like me) welcome, but manages to not feel at all touristy or contrived. This is where the locals gather for the truly legendary breakfasts. A full range of coffee drinks, free wifi, and the kind of place that once you've been, you want to come back every day (which I did.) They offer everything you'd expect on offer for s Shetland breakfast, and also offer vegan and vegetarian options. Some reviews mention that it's rather small and sometimes hard to find seating, but with the upstairs, and the outside seating in fine weather, we always found a table, and never had anything less than a wonderful experience. It's not just the best and coolest cafe in Shetland, its' the best and coolest (without in the least being concerned about being cool) anywhere I've ever been.

This was a great place for lunch and a late breakfast too. The food was delicious. I liked how you had to find a table first and then order...good for solo travellers like myself. The cafe itself is easy to find. Free WiFi was a bonus.

We had scones & tea that were so-so. The scones were unfortunately very dry but the shop is attractive and there is outside seating.

This place is busy most days. During an unusually warm week in Shetland we went for coffee a few times and on one occasion a sandwich. Service is fast and friendly Sandwiches were freshly made and delicious.

The shop part of this enterprise is very cute with lots of typical tourist stuff but some other things we didn’t see anywhere else. There were some upcycled style decor items and hand made items from around Shetland in addition to the ubiquitous Twatt tee shirts (a local village) and keychains. There were tons of tourists there as it is near the harbor so we did not enjoy it as much as we might have. But if you are looking for something to remember Shetland, I am sure they have it. The cafe was very busy so we did not stay but everything looked good.

Always a line at this cafe but it was worth waiting for. The coffee was excellent (mocha and flat white). We had soup and brown bread there twice and it was good. I had the ginger cake and that was excellent. This a very convenient cafe along the esplanade east of Victoria Pier. They serve local food and prices are fair.

Great wee cafe with excellent fresh breakfasts cooked to order and some home baking. Nice sitting out area as well. Good coffee and fair pricing.

My wife and I visit Lerwick every year, and most days we’re in town we go to the Peerie Cafe either for morning or afternoon coffee and sometimes for lunch.

This is a lovely café with friendly staff. It's near the harbour so an ideal place for breakfast when arriving by boat from Aberdeen.

My husband and I were visiting Lerwick in May and had the good luck to try the Peerie Shop Cafe for breakfast. Delicious coffee, scrambled eggs, salmon, scones, and fresh squeezed orange juice were perfect to get our day started. Small space, but there is an upstairs with more room. Order at the counter and your food will be delivered to your table. A great find!

We love the local soup here. So we normally call in on a Friday for Cullen Skink soup and bread. They also make sandwiches, cakes and good coffee. In the summer you can sit outside but might be crowded if weather is poor.

Here on a hiking and knitting tour this was the first nights restaurant. The meal was beautifully presented and prepared as well as delicious. Great coffee stop too.

Perfect visit. Great soup and coffee. I was tempted to have the salmon bagel as a takeaway, but managed to resist. The cafe was quiet-ish on this weekday afternoon prior to the folk festival. Well worth a visit.

Popped in for breakfast, which is really fresh. Lots of free seats too. Scrambled egg, toast and tea arrived within 5 minutes. There is a fine selection of cakes (inc vegan ones) downstairs and the cafe is attached to a good lovely wee gift shop.

For some reason I come here for a coffee every time I am in Shetland . The coffee and cakes are nice, but it's quite dark downstairs and an industrial vibe upstairs. I always feel I'm interrupting a staff party when I go in.

We nipped in here for a hot chocolate and bacon sandwich. The cafe was clean and I like the quirky artwork. The staff are not very friendly but obviously hard-working and quick. The food was fresh and we enjoyed our snack.

We go here on a regular basis and always enjoy a selection of warm drinks, always served with a smile and tailored to our liking. The homebaking is certainly worth a try

Called in for coffee & a bite to eat while in Lerwick for the day. Sandwiches were great, especially the smoked salmon & cream cheese which they did for me on gluten free bread instead of a bagel. Other half had a scone which he said was really good & I had a gf cookie. Well worth a visit.

Having a wonder around Lerwick the day after Up Helly Aa, we pop into here for some lunch. Nice little place and we sat upstairs. Homemade tomato soup and a Brie and pesto panini, delicious! Decent prices too.

Visited with 5 friends, found the staff extremely rude and unfriendly. No smiles, kept telling us to move when we were trying to read the menu. Food was nice but a bit cheeky to have to pay extra per slice of bread with soup, and over a pound each for things like a coleslaw or salad on the side of your panini. Overall- nice food, poor service.

The place is small so expect it to be crowded. The room upstairs somehow felt a bit dull, but the food was good. Coffee needs improvement, so I'd rather go for orange juice or tea. The breakfast includes pastries, scones, bacon or egg sandwich. Try the last one.

In here today, soup was to posh for me today so had a toasted panini and a to die for cheese cake. Quick service and delivered to table. I do like how all staff have a aprons on where some local cafes don’t seem to think this vital code of hygiene necessary. Nice cup of tetly tea too.

Found this cosy wee cafe tucked behind The Peerie Shop. Excellent coffee, melt in the mouth cheescake, and liked that everything is made in the cafe, with strong eco principles. Kind of place to hide on a cold day with soup and coffee.

Let me start by saying that I hate soup, I detest it - but the home made soup here is so wonderful that I’ve eaten it three days running and would happily eat it for the rest of my life. The tea and coffee are wonderful and they supply gluten free options as well. This place is a real gem

We ate here a few times during our stay in Shetland. The Peerie shop cafe was very cosy and the food was simple but hearty and tasted amazing. it can get very busy when the cruise ships come in, so go early for lunch!

Nous y sommes allés prendre un café un après midi et sommes restés en terrasse car il faisait beau. L'endroit est très agréable à proximité du port et les prix sont honnêtes.

Distinctly Shetland Island charm. Cute knitted /crocheted sheep head decorations on the wall but in islands where shaggy sheep roam round almost begging to have their fleece turned into warm Fair Isle jumpers what could be more appropriate? Indoor rest rooms available so you don't have to brave the cold and blustery conditions. Excellent range of food and good coffee.

Good coffee and the best classic scones. Just plain, lovely buttery scones. Stopped by when our ship called at Lerwick and hope to go back for a longer stay. And more scones. I'm going to try to reproduce them at home.

We love the Peerie and ate here at least 5 times in the month we were here. The soup is outstanding a real surprise every day what exotic flavour it will be.

Absolutely yummy cakes, good range of teas and coffees too. Food was really fresh and used good quality products.Sat upstairs where there was bit more room. Busy with both tourists and locals. Loved décor too, local artwork and woolly sheep heads adorn walls. Next door to café is Peerie shop, which sells a lot of local crafts and other items. Café is in a good location for both waterfront in front of shop and high street to rear. Staff were really pleasant, worked really hard to serve all efficiently and swiftly with volume of customers who came in when we were there

Lovely food made on the premises, excellent coffee and tea selection and location very handy when you are out and about in Lerwick. We have been here many times during our various holidays in these parts and it doesn't disappoint in its catering. Can sometimes be rather "popular" i.e. crowded but that is because it is such a nice little place. I could maybe suggest just one teeny weeny little thing that would make it even better, which I had noticed but turned a blind eye to but my DH mentioned it in a slightly grumbly way, and that is that the lady who appears to be in charge could possibly smile once in a while as my husband felt she had an attitude problem. I said I didn't quite think it was that, she was just very run off her feet, but you get the point, the customers don't know if you are grumpy because you don't like them or because someone just cancelled your delivery of fresh milk. If that lady is reading this, you can certainly afford to smile because you have the nicest little cafe in town :)

This very popular cafe serves a good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Went in a few times during the Wool Week and although the food and drinks were all fine it would have been lovely to just once be treated with a smile. Prompted to go because of the mention in the Anne Cleeve detective books but sadly not tempted to return.

This is very busy café popular with locals so seating is at a premium. There is a second floor seating for additional seats.

This lovely cafe has outstanding homemade food couldn't fault it, will Definately be back in the future.

We stopped here to refuel on a day out, lovely. Staff wee very friendly and helpful. Good variety on the menu and decent prices compared to some of the other eateries near by. Would definatley revisit.

Came here for lunch whilst I was staying in Lerwick for work. I thought that the cafe looked lovely and a great place to get lunch. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes without being acknowledged or greeted. It wasn't particularly busy and I was the only person waiting to be served.

We called in for coffee and a snack as we were visiting for the day. It was very busy which is always a good sign and the staff were efficient and friendly. Coffees were all great, and the atmosphere and surroundings were lovely!

We arrived into Lerwick from the ferry at 07:00 and were keen to find somewhere for breakfast.

Fantastic busy little cafe with friendly staff. They have the most amazing cauliflower and spring onion soup with gorgeous bread that they never have on the menu often enough (at least 3 times a week would be good). The scones and cakes are delicious too!
