I took my son who is at Uni for a lovely dinner. Beautifully but simply decorated. Friendly, professional service and the food was superb. We went with the 4 course menu which was perfect. We avoided the wine pairing as we were driving. The only slight downside was that the tables who had ordered the wine pairing menus had constant explanations of the wines by the Sommelier which we could hear perfectly. The restaurant is small so I would assume this is hard to avoid. Prices are on the high side but to be expected. All in all a very enjoyable evening.

What a lovely establishment. This was our first time staying overnight, but we’ve been lucky to eat at the restaurant on a number of occasions. As always, the tasting menu was prepared to a high standard. The staff were friendly and attentive. The fire was on in the lounge, so we got to enjoy a drink next to the fire which is always lovely. The suites were lovely. As expected, everything was to a high standard and we loved having our breakfast in the loft area. We had one tiny quibble - the lack of water pressure in the shower. But overall an amazing experience that is highly recommended!

As always, everything was just as we’ve come to expect. Delightful menu prepared and served flawlessly by friendly staff. this time we stayed in the rooms and the accommodation is similarly faultless with everything just so. Breakfast was healthy, simple with numerous options. Looking forward to our next visit already.

We ordered the tasting menu on our visit and were not disappointed. The white fish dish (cod and mussel based) was the best white fish I have ever had. I had to stop myself from licking the plate. The restaurant is beautiful to sit in as well as the lounge. We weren’t drinking alcohol on this occasion but the drinks menu looked excellent with some luscious wines on offer. Only comments would be on parking (very tight and lack of spaces- if you can get a taxi and enjoy a glass of wine I would) and the restaurant was a little chilly compared to the lovely cosy lounge.

This was a second visit for my wife and I. last time, several years ago, we stayed for one night and had the 6 course tasting menu. and it was first class. This time we stayed for 2 night for the Gourmet Stay. having the A La Carte menu on the first night and the Tasting menu on the second. Just like our first visit the food was delicious. The service was first class, friendly but discrete , the staff seemed to appear at your table just when you wanted them but then disappear, returning at just the right moment. The dishes of the tasting menu seemed small at first but as the meal continued we realised that the portions were spot on, allowing you enjoy each course without ever feeling over full. The two highlights for us were the loin of roe deer and the final sweet course. Both these dishes were paired with wines so perfect that the food and wine perfectly complimented each other. This was especially true for the sweet. This was a chocolate and passion fruit mouse and a banana sorbet paired a dessert wine, Domain Fontanel Maury 2019. My wife and I are no fans of dessert wines often finding them so sweet as to be almost sickly, but this combination of chocolate, sorbet and sweet wine was fantastic and we finished our meal with massive grins on our faces. Thank to all the kitchen staff, table staff and sommelier. A buffet breakfast is served in your room and you can forget coffee, toast and marmalade, although if that's all you want you can order just that. You ordered your meal the night before and staff arrive to set up the meal in the dining area in the upper level of your suite. Again first class service.

We had been meaning to visit for ages and finally did so this month. We also stayed overnight and had breakfast, As they have very few rooms they do not provide a full cooked breakfast, but deliver a continental breakfast to your room. However, this was excellent. Served and set up in your own living room table with proper cutlery and cloth napkins. A great start to the day. Dinner was also very good, with one or two small gripes. My pork starter and intermediate course of quail were both superb. As for mains, my wife's halibut was average and did not look particularly appealing. My beef was well cooked, although nut quite as unctuous as I would have expected. The sweetbread was very good, but the tongue was cold. We both had the same rhubarb dessert, which was very good. Perhaps a little bit more ginger would make it even better. The amuse buches and petit fours were excellent and made for a very filling meal. As for the wine; I know that restaurants need a mark up, but over 4 times retail price is a bit steep. Overall I would have rated our experience as 9/10, but I think that a couple of points keep it below a *****.

Visited here whilst staying in Fife for a few days and it was brilliant. Went on a week night so was quiet but doesn’t take anything away from the restaurant and if anything made it a more romantic visit. Went with the tasting menu. Every course was very well presented and just seemed to get better and better with each course that arrived. Have to make a special mention for the venison dish. Although when I first seen it, I thought it was overcooked but on eating wow. Probably the best tasting venison I have had and it cut like a hot knife through butter, superb. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful and knew and fully understood the food being served. Fantastic visit and well worthy of the Michelin Star as I have eaten at a couple and it’s up there with the best.

A truly fabulous dining experience and perfect overnight stay at the Peat Inn Restaurant and Rooms. We checked in late afternoon and were delighted with our split level suite, which was beautifully furnished and a stones throw away from the restaurant - the complimentary champagne, sherry and chocolates were a lovely touch! We popped over for a pre dinner drink to the restaurant where the staff quickly lit the fire, brought our drinks and regaled us with the long history of the Inn. A quick change in our room before returning for a truly delicious taster menu extravaganza and matching wines, topped off with the opportunity to meet Chef Smeddle. A continental breakfast delivered to our room the next morning topped off a truly fabulous and special overnight stay. Would totally recommend!

We came here for dinner after hearing so much about it from a couple of friends who have been a few times. Absolutely blown away and can now see why they have been saying we have to go for dinner here. Everything was just perfectly setup for an amazing evening. From the moment we stepped in to the lounge area and received a genuinely warm welcome to the moment we left couldn't be faulted in any way. Every course was delicious and a real work of art on the plate. We went for the tasting menu because every course just sounded great and we weren't disappointed. My personal favourite was the venison main course, served with venison haggis and such perfectly cooked venison. My girlfriend on the other hand cannot stop raving about the cod loin which had been cooked in a smoked butter. And dessert was a real show-stopper of a chocolate souffle. The service was friendly and personal without being overbearing and the knowledge of the waiting staff and their wine recommendations really made the night very special. We will most definitely be returning for another meal in the near future! Can't recommend enough!

We last visited thirteen years ago and this time visit did not disappoint. The food (tasting menu) and service in the restaurant were excellent. The accommodation is very good as was the breakfast. All of the staff and set up are very Covid aware.

Visited for the second time. Food this time just as good as last time. The breads they serve are amazing as is the wide selection of wines. The food is of the highest quality in taste and presentation and would definitely recommend a visit if your staying up in saint andrews...in fact I would say it’s a must! Will definitely return for a third visit...

We called here for lunch to celebrate a friends 80th birthday. From arriving the staff were excellent they explained the procedure for a 1 way system around the restaurant while showing us to our table. When we ordered our meal on of my friends said no Caviar on here meal. They served amouch bouch to us and when they came there was one without caviar which we thought was excellent. So from start to finish everything was excellent.

Peat Inn is a tiny village near St Andrews in Fife, dominated by the restaurant with rooms of the same name. Rooms are suites, with bedroom/bathroom downstairs and sitting room upstairs where breakfast is served. Michelin starred chef serves fabulous food in the renowned restaurant. Try the 6-course taster menu. Extraordinary. Also superb wine list.

We were lucky to bag a last minute table at the Peat Inn and had a superb lunch! The The menu was great for me but needed a bit of tweaking for my sister but they were very happy to oblige and made no fuss. The whole experience was amazing...the food (and presentation) First Class A* and the staff were excellent - made the whole experience the most memorable during our road trip to Scotland. Pics do not do justice to this place - please do go and enjoy it if you can!

Not enough words to describe how much my Mum and I enjoyed our visit for lunch on Tuesday. After two periods of lockdown and Mum shielding it was a delight to be out and about and enjoying such fantastic food and hospitality. The staff were so engaging paying real attention to each table. Each made great effort with the "new normal" put in place at the restaurant. The food was sublime. Such great flavour combinations. Mum pushed the boat out and had a Black Forest Martini...described as the best cocktail she'd tasted...praise indeed.

We had a wonderful evening at the Peat Inn a couple of Fridays ago, our first visit following their recent reopening post-lockdown. The food was (as ever) fantastic, we enjoyed good company and (apart from the staff wearing face masks, spaced out tables and a one way system to get to the bathroom) it felt very much like business as usual. The waiting staff seem buoyant despite having to wear face masks. We’re looking forward to our next visit, although it sounds like we’ll have to book soon: the restaurant is apparently busy! Much enjoyed!

We are annual visitors to this established Michelin starred restaurant with rooms. We had another excellent overall experience this year in a gourmet break postponed from our usual April slot.We were aware of a slight fall off in service standards on our first night in the restaurant and were disappointed in the inedible "boiled eggs"on our first breakfast. However, normal excellent service was resumed on our second day/evening with the tasting menu one of the best we have sampled here over the years.Loo,ing forward to next years visit already.

Superb cooking - well exceeded expectations based on the menu and easily deserving it’s Michelin star. The Smeddles have been running this restaurant for 14 years and have got it right. A series of nice rooms allow guests to stay over, with breakfast served in the room. The kitchen is known for its bread and baking, which was fine, but the other food really shone. Appetisers were a red pepper hummus, nicely balanced (14/20), and a tartar of coley with avocado and lime (16/20). The six course tasting menu started with a gazpacho with cucumber gel (17/20) served with crispy langoustine, the latter an excellent innovation but slightly oily (16/20). A scallop tartare was also offered. Cod came baked in seaweed butter with courgette and basil butter sauce (17/20). The fish was cooked on point, with excellent presentation, and the balance of flavours on the dish worked well. Perhaps the standout course was warm mosaic of chicken and it’s sweetbreads with carrots and peas (19/20). Superbly conceived, flawlessly executed with crispy chicken skin, and perfectly sauced. This is very high quality cooking. Slow braised short rib of beef had excellent flavour, although perhaps a little more cooking could have added depth, but this was a very competent dish more than made up for by the truffled chard gratin and classical sauce (16/20). Dessert came in two parts. Local strawberries came diced with rose, ginger, chilli and lemongrass. This was very good (17/20). The hot soufflé using an Edinburgh-based bean to bar chocolate was excellently presented and offset by a blackcurrant and tarragon sorbet. A perfect soufflé but perhaps a bit overwhelming (16/20). Wines were thoughtful and well chosen, with Katherine Smeddle knowledgeable about her chosen suppliers. All in all, this is really superb place to visit with very consistent cooking.
