Good pub but the toilets are dire!! Come on sort them out!!!

Went out last night and popped into a few locals, this venue we were passing so headed in and it was lovely. Nice atmosphere, and calm in there. Bar staff was lovely and perched up in a corner and supped our drinks for an hour. Will come back to try food next time, menu sounded great

Went to pear tree for a drink on a Saturday night and all the staff were rude and couldn’t care about any of their guests. Decided to give it another go for a Sunday roast and got there after booking well in advance, to find out there were no roasts left. When mentioned to staff that we were disappointed yet again they couldn’t care less and didn’t make us feel welcome.

Booked a table for Sunday roast only to be told on arrival that they aren't doing roasts for the whole month of January, which wasn't advertised anywhere online. Not the end of the world, however the menus had food stuck to them, there were dirty wet wipes on the table, no toilet roll at all in the gents, no dairy alternatives for coffee, and several items we ordered not available. Usually enjoy visiting this pub but it's become clear the place needs new management to run it better.

We came here for a late lunch this afternoon around 2 o'clock . According to the menu, they serve lunch till 3pm. However, we were told the chef had taken a break already and no food would be served! We were so disappointed and had to pay for the drinks we ordered before we left.

Excellent food served promptly. Very impressed that food was piping hot and served as requested good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Great tasting coffee. Staff were attentive and helpful.

Loved the atmosphere of the pub, rustic furniture looks fab. We wanted to bring our dog and it was very relaxing having her there. The lady behind the bar even brought fresh water over for her without being asked. Service was excellent- one staff member seemed to be doing everything and she was great, very friendly and helpful. Really nice food (prawn salad and southern chicken followed by sticky toffee pudding) My son lives nearby and we will definitely be back xx

If you would like to feel undervalued, be served a glass of wine @£9.95 in a warm tumbler and visit dirty toilets without toilet roll, this is the place for you. Tbf- after a protracted conversation with the supervisor she did agree to refund the wine, which I happily returned. This was one of Brains Premium Outlets, which did charge premium prices, the service under Brains was excellent. You were welcomed at the door, dogs fussed and given treats and water and there were adequate staff on busy Friday & Saturday nights. Marstons are charging the premium prices however the service is well below par. We certainly won’t be visiting again anytime soon.

Absolutely shocking to have one very hard working bar staff at a lunchtime, taking orders, making coffee and serving food. The management need to be replaced with someone with competence. No good coming here if you’re hungry and thirsty!!!!

Pints are quite overpriced but we had friendly service from the bar staff and the place was nice and busy so the atmosphere was decent on a Saturday night.

We asked for a rump steak to be cooked medium rare and it was more medium to well done and very, very tough, two x fish and chips - very few chips and the fish was flat rather than big chunks and burger and chips - small portion and average. Would not recommend.

Fantastic local bar, really friendly staff and an array of offers

Meet friends here monthly for a catch up, food is always hot, staff friendly lovely place. Love the book swop, left some books the last time we were there.

A nice pub just up the road from the live music venue, The Globe. We wanted to stop and grab something to eat beforehand and a great little spot to stop and grab some food and a pint. Spiral stairs to upper floor and spiral stair down to toilets so not great if you have mobility issues. My fish and chips were great but some of our party said it was not so great so 4 stars.

Booked a table for 7:30, paid for a taxi, bought a drink and then told no tables can be booked on Sundays! Tell that to my booking reference! Awful experience, bank holiday weekend in tatters! Family in tears!

Cancelled our two week old booking on the day. Not impressed. Had been looking forward to celebrating my birthday with friends.

A group of us came here on a busy Friday evening. Waited a while at the bar, asked for a glass of wine and was told no wine glasses available at the moment and he offered half a pint glass!! For an overpriced £9 glass of wine I would appreciate a glass. Glass was brought to table and was warm as just came out of dishwasher. Not great if drinking a cold rose. Then the worst part. My hunters chicken.... very dry. A few luke warm chips, 2 tiny onion rings, a tiny side salad (lettuce) and the smallest amount of bbq sauce and cheese on the chicken it was basically a dry chicken breast as the sauce had just soaked into it. The chef should be embarrassed. So tight on portions!! I asked for some more bbq sauce expecting them to bring over a warm bowl from the kitchen but instead had a Heinz bbq bottle plonked down! Awful, overpriced experience. Will not be returning.

Great place for drink and food and a quiz on Sunday nights

After a dismal experience at the Juno Lounge in the same street, we visited The Pear Tree. What a difference. The staff at The Pear Tree were cheerful, helpful and friendly. That is all that is needed. Service is everything. Thank you Pear Tree.

My son and I enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast. Affordable, good quality and delivered from friendly and professional staff. Mykala and Chris were wonderful and accommodating to all our needs.

My son and I went to this restaurant a week last Friday. We had been visiting there once a month for around 3 years. We had a dreadful experience. To start with my son ordered a burger, as he always does, he had to settle for a chicken burger as a substitute. I had ordered a chicken kiev. It was listed on the menu as coming with chips, a small salad and onion rings. When I pointed out that the onion rings were missing, he gave an excuse, which I didn't quite understand. I was neither offered very an alternative, an apology or a discount, which I thought was very unfair. We have since chosen another establishment for our monthly visits.

Decent beer but the food was mediocre

Well what can I say another fabulous visit… very busy for Mother’s Day and the host Charlotte was brilliant very organised and seated us as a family.. food was 10/10 and the customer service skills was on top form well done guys keep up the good work

Pub quiz was pretty good to be fair , my friend stacked it down the spiral stair case but that was pretty funny

We visited as we walked through the area which is busy and vibrant in heart of Cardiff. We had a warm welcome. Food was really good. My partner went for steak pie with trimmings. I went for steak with salad. Was really done well and with good wine we stayed a while. Good music and well worth a visit. Even if you just want a coffee.

My second visit in a short space of time and again I’m soo happy with this… I went for the specials menu that they had at the bar… soo happy and have told slot of people to come visit…

It used to be such a good pub/café but unfortunately it has gone down hill. The food is now very generic and service is slow. The staff try their best and it's not their fault, they were very friendly and helpful. I miss the old Pear Tree, bring it back please.

Attended the drink and draw there, good selection of beverage and beer. I have to try the food, though it has a 5 rating for hygiene. Friendly staff , great vibe, interesting spiral staircase which goes up to second floor from basement.

What a fantastic birthday brunch. The service by the new managers Louis and Charlotte was excellent and the breakfasts were fantastic. Really quick service for 20 hungry men. Will be going there again. Richard

Food is worse since Marston's took over. Breakfast today was poor. One very small bacon rasher, two chip shop style sausages and a round of toast slightly burned on one side, and cold bread on the other. We were warned of a 15 minute wait which turned into 45 minutes. No hollandaise sauce for the eggs 'nearly' benedict.

Half cooked toast measly bit of bacon, cold beans only reason I ate it all was cause I was hungry, such a shame used to do good grub here, also examine your grill it's leaving a odd after taste on the food.

Visited the pear tree for food today. New management was delightfully friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and brought out in good time. The soft atmosphere could of held me there all afternoon. Definitely recommend The Pear Tree for an afternoon with friends. Will curtainly be back very soon.

Had a really lovely meal here yesterday evening with my husband and our friend. As usual the service was spot on, the food was lovely and the price was very reasonable. I understand there is a new manager, he is obviously doing a good job. Twice we have been here prior to going to a Show and needed to get served quickly, both times the service was excellent. We will definitely be eating here again, no hesitation.

Nice pub. Felt more like a wine bar in terms of layout and atmosphere though not much choice of wine. Still comfy and relaxed place, head and shoulders above other options in the area. Does food too though doesn’t say so outside, we didn’t try that.

What used to be a real hub for the community spoiled by money hungry management. Prices too high for the quality, and always seemingly understaffed. Staff incredibly friendly but rushed off their feet meaning the atmosphere has just declined. New ownership should be ashamed.

Disappointing lunch on Saturday 17th December

Booked a table with a group of friends. Left personalised Xmas cards accidentally behind on table. I rang next day at 11am and despite constantly ringing I had no response. Called in lunch time on Sunday and then spoke with Lewis of my concern and he advised would speak with management and get back to me. Felt very disappointed as not had any reply and this shows lack of sensitivity at this precious time of year. So want be going back as seems like the pub is all take and no value of custom.

If you like soapy beer this is the place for you.

The food was really awful - off salad, dry microwaved beans that had gone cold before they reached the table and a burger that didn’t taste like it had any actual meat in it. Will not be going back

Good food, fast service. Although I don't know who's great idea it was to have a piano in the upstairs seating area. Nothing like having to listen to a 5 year old attempting to smash out a Mozart tune for half an hour to put you right off your meal.
