Pauls Restaurant &The Wine Lounge in Melton

We hadn’t been here for a while, so being on our own on Easter Sunday we thought we’d treat ourselves. And it was not only as good as ever, it was probably better. Everything, as usual was cooked to perfection, the staff were diligent and friendly, and the restaurant appears to have had a makeover, it looks very elegant. I honestly think it’s the best restaurant in the area. We both had prawns for starters, and lamb as a main course, both great choices. We won’t leave it so long until the next time.

Thourghly enjoyable Date night we sat in comfy chairs near a cosy log burner for pre dinner drinks I had the king scallops to start they were absolutely divine didn't want to finish eating them my husband had the king prawns he said were very good we both had the lamb shoulder was delicious we didn't have any more room for pudding but the menu looking very tempting Paul's has such a lovely atmosphere very welcoming and friendly will definitely be back again soon highly recommend

Just had a marvellous lunch today, cooked with perfection and amazing flavours. I had the slow cooked beef and my friend had the pork medallions. The 2 men had the cod gougons. There was absolutely nothing to fault. Highly recommend.

First visit to Paul’s and will not be my last. Outstanding food . Great venue. Polite and attentive staff. Highly recommend .

We had made our reservation over a month in advance and were booked a table in the Wine Lounge, however on arrival we were informed that our table was not yet available as it was still being used by earlier diners. We were left waiting for just under an hour before our table became available and our orders taken, then a further half hour for our food. Whilst waiting the diners on one table loudly boasted that they had been "squeezed in at short notice as they were regulars". We suspect they had been allocated part of our time slot. Whilst the food was good, there was no atmosphere in the Wine Lounge , particularly as by the time our food was served, all the other diners had left so there were just the two of us in there. This level of service did not meet our expectations, however the female member of staff looking after the Wine Lounge area was very pleasant and made meaningful efforts to try to alleviate our frustrating and unpleasant experience. We will not return.

Two seniors, booked for dinner on a Saturday evening, and noted that really this is necessary, as the Restaurant quickly filled up. We liked the small waiting/drinking area adjacent to the Restaurant, where your preprandial drinks were served and menus prsented. A good wine list, and the menu is certainly well thought through and appetising. Pricing is OK, but certainly not budget. Our intial wwelcome to the Restaurant was warm, and the staff in general were lovely, and their attention was just about right. Quite how they keep so cheerful when the 'Madam' behind the bar and evidently 'in charge' is so miserable, I do not know; but apparently she does not enjoy her role at all !! If you are a conossieur of good food, beautifully presented, then you will find it here, but do be careful not to upset the 'management' !

Really enjoyed the roast lamb and great selection of desserts- difficult to choose. Lovely, friendly staff despite being busy took time to engage with the customers- Definitely Recommended

Four of us dined at Pauls for the first time. It was a hot Tuesday evening and we were concerned that we’d be the only customers but we needn’t have worried as there were several other tables occupied. The waitress greeted us and was excellent throughout the evening. The menu choice was good and varied and between us we had goats cheese, scallops, prawns and asparagus starters. Our mains included veal, chicken and fillet steak and 3 of us had desserts - two pannacottas and a cheese selection. We drank various cocktails, red wine and white wine. Everything was spot-on…. absolutely no complaints at all. Thank you Pauls for looking after us so well and serving up delicious food - we will definitely be back!

We have never been disappointed by any meal we have had at Paul’s. Today we had Sunday lunch and it was delicious. The beef and pork were tender, the vegetables cooked perfectly and the pudding delicious. Service was very good, polite and efficient. Very good value for money.

Fantastic restaurant, great friendly staff. Dealt with complicated dietary restrictions really well. Food was delicious and they even helped us to get home afterwards as the heavens had opened with a sudden torrential downpour. Definitely went over & above.

5 of us celebrated my mum's birthday, booked for Sunday lunch. The menu had a wonderful selection that suited all, I think we all had a different starter, main and desert. The food was excellent, the portions very generous, and the staff were knowledgeable and dedicated, brilliant service with a smile. Their regular weekday menu is also excellent, seafood soup to die for!! I thoroughly recommend Paul's, good idea to book as it's always busy. Already looking forward to next time!

despite there being over a dozen of us, the staff made everyone feel special and the food was just splendid (my venison was so tender and flavoursome). Many of the party had been before but it was my first time and I had not expected such quality here. Well done everyone.

We love this restaurant and stopped off for lunch on Saturday on our way up to York. We arrived at 12 and were seated straight away, given the menu and left to decide what we wanted. I had the crispy duck starter which was so tasty followed by venison which sent me to heaven and back, cooked to perfection, servered with wonderful red cabbage, and apple with a delicious sauce, to full for dessert. Hubby had a goats cheese starter, which he loved, followed by chicken and a lovely bowl of veg to share he also was too full for dessert. Party of 5 for a Saturday birthday lunch for my 87 year old mum and it was fantastic. The food was delicious we had 5 different starters, 4 different mains & 3 different desserts & they were all amazing. The service was perfect & very understanding of slow decisions etc. I don’t live locally but if I did I would be here all the time!

We had booked a table at Paul's on Tuesday 18th October for 4 people. The service, food and ambience were all fantastic. This is the best special occasion restaurant in the area, special occasion because it is quite pricy but worth every penny. We have visited Paul's on a few occasions and have always been very impressed with the whole experience.

We decided we would like our wedding reception to be held at Paul’s. So on meeting up with him, and discussing a few things, said no problem, leave it all to me and don’t worry about anything and have a perfect day. Eventually that day came and we arrived at Paul’s. Wow! What a day! Lovely room, guests welcomed with Prosecco and canapés, and a superb menu. Five courses for starters and main, catering for gluten-free and vegetarian options. Wedding cake being for dessert which was served with fruit and cream. A great social evening was had which was enjoyed by everyone. Paul and his staff had completely surpassed our expectations and made our evening absolutely wonderful. We can’t thank him enough. Will totally recommend Paul’s for a wedding reception and equally for dining in the restaurant. First class food and venue to dine in. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks a million.

Arrived for 12pm lunch. Hand sanitiser to be used on entry and shown straight to our table. We eat here for special occasions normally but decided to do our bit & booked for Eat Out to Help Out. Tables set a good distance apart. The menu was put on the table and our lovely server took a step back to take drinks order. I always have fish rather than meat & it was a difficult decision for me, which makes a rare change, on two fabulous sounding fish dishes. So I do speak with confidence on fish. I plumped for the Cajun Salmon with Shrimp sauce, Asparagus & Sweet Potato chips & I have to say the entire meal was probably the best fish/salmon dish I have ever had & I have eaten fish in a couple of very good restaurants in my time. I had Salted Caramel Ice Cream as a sweet - again absolute perfection. Husband had Rib Eye Steak with Pepper Cream sauce & did not speak all the way through it as he was enjoying it too much! His went down too fast for me to actually get a photo of it when I thought of taking one for this review! He had Eaton Mess to follow which I did manage to take a picture of before that to was dispatched. We do not drink at lunch times so had 2 Cokes. This fabulous meal came to £61, a good deal in itself, but with the Government 50% off the check (UP TO £10 per person) This fabulous meal came to just £41.. The couple behind us left before us and as soon as they were out of sight the serves came and spray cleaned the whole area for the following occupants. Very impressed with the whole experience considering the present situation with the worry of C-19. Hand sanitiser on a stand for use as we left also. Booked for lunch on Tuesday - just as well as a very popular restaurant. The scallops were generous and deliciously marinated in citrus juices with a summer salad . The main was seabass fillets and it was cooked to perfection. A good selection of seasonal vegetables but not really enough for two.An excellent meal that was outstanding value even without the "Eat Out to Help Out" incentive. We will be returning to what must be one of the most outstanding restaurants in the area.

We visited for my birthday last year on 25th July, a ridiculously hot day - a splendid experience. We now try to support the Thorold, our local pub in Marston, but I'd really recommend Pauls for a fine dining experience.

Due to lockdown, we decided to order a takeaway instead of being able to eat in the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The meal was beautifully cooked and made my wifes birthday evening very special. Thank you Pauls.

We visited Pauls for a meal on Wednesday evening with some friends. We hadn’t visited for a while. But the food and service was fantastic. We even ended up having three courses (which is rare) as the chocolate crepe brûlée was amazing. Danni the waitress was great and very helpful. We enjoyed it so much we have popped in for lunch today. As the saying goes ‘You definitely can’t have enough of a good thing’.

Went for lunch; very limited draught beer selection. Rather a quiet ambiance but good service from a lunch menu with three choices per three course meal. Portion size is small and food was average in quality and variation

Forgot to put a review on here when we can for our Xmas works meal.... had the Xmas menu with so much to choose from...there was 9 of us and all our meals were hot and cooked to perfection... mine didn’t come with a Stilton sauce but asked if I could have one and if course it wasn’t a problem.... my pork was beautiful and tender and some had the Xmas turkey meal and they looked appetising aswell.... the Xmas pudding was so delicious could have eaten 2 of them... all the pudding looked good... definitely recommend this lovely restaurant anytime of the year... well done to Paul and his team.... we will be returning xxx

Went to Paul's again this year for a Valentine's meal. The menu was outstanding with plenty of choice... Starters, main and dessert. The food was total quality, and excellently presented. The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wine is superb and compliments the meal really well. Great staff and service in a nice atmosphere. Can't wait to visit again.

We have been going for years and last week went twice. The food is consistently outstanding and the service incredible.The atmosphere is relaxed yet professional and they will bend over backwards for you. Very highly recommended if you have missed out on this gem before.

The restaurant looks very relaxing on the inside and the staff were very friendly. The food was good, everyone enjoyed their meals, but I personally found my noodles a bit salty to my liking. But anyways, it was a nice evening out.

We have used this Restaurant very many times with very good experiences, so or a change we decided to have Christmas Day Dinner at Paul`s, on Christmas Day, as a treat for family. The actual menu variety and the meal was excellent. The only issue we had was to be charged separately for Coffees and small Mince Pies .... What a DISAPPOINTMENT in the Season of Goodwill not have included these in the Christmas Day Meal package !

Four of us spent an excellent evening at Paul’s on Saturday 9th November 2019. We were celebrating Alan’s birthday which we enjoyed very much, food was delicious Service was very good. Nice relaxed atmosphere the evening was memorable.

We were a party of 16 and received excellent food alongside great and attentive service. We were able to book a lovely private room which was just perfect to hold my father’s 90th birthday celebration. All family members were extremely impressed not only by the quality of the food but by the wonderful choice available on the weekend set menu. It made this celebration all the more special and I would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant! We will definitely be back!

Excellent food and service,we ordered 18 meals and they were all brought out within 60 seconds of each other with no mistakes. Desserts were the same. Quality food all the way. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because the serious lack of choice of drinks on draught.

Great Food & Service when I last went however I do find the dining areas a bit higady piggly and the waiting / bar area very small.

We celebrated my Mum's 95th birthday with lunch here and everything was perfect. There were 8 of us and the staff were professional, friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived and helped to make the day special for my Mum.

The food was well worth the visit. We went on a night when there was a Turkish evening so the main menu was a little reduced so I recommend you check beforehand if you want a particular main course. The service was good and the staff were very friendly. Recommend and will return.

Been over 10 years since we last visited but it certainly won’t be that long till we go back again. Very impressed. Food, service, ambiance all excellent. We ate from the mid week lunch menu which was £22 for 3 courses. Very good value for the high standard of food. The spicy tomato sauce on the mushroom starter in particular was so flavoursome. Staff even took the trouble to pipe Happy Birthday on my wife’s dessert plate when they realised it was a birthday celebration. We loved it all.

I have been wanting to eat at Paul's for ages and finally, I have had the pleasure of enjoying a leisurely and delicious lunch with friends. The sea bass was delicious! A wonderful place to enjoy good food, good company and the staff are attentive, friendly with a smile!

We had a family lunch here and it was an excellent experience. We were greeted in a very friendly manner and the rest of the service was really good. The standard of food was exceptional and presented in a very appealing way. All in all this was a lunch to remember.

We went for dinner with friends the week leading up to Christmas 2018. We chose from the fixed 3 course menu. Lots of choice and very different/creative. It was excellent. Although busy, the staff were super efficient and friendly. We sat in the main restaurant over Market Street. We will definitely visit again and can highly recommend, wished we had found this gen of a restaurant sooner.

I have eaten here a couple of times with a large group and a small one, and the service has been first class each time. The staff are very friendly and the lunch menu provides a very good choice of dishes. I have not eaten in the restaurant proper - both times we ate in the wine bar, but I fully intend to rectify this omission at the earliest opportunity and I do NOT expect to be disappointed. The starters are varied and very good (I can recommend the pickled herring), the mains are tasty and substantial and the deserts are... sweeeet :-)

Food was excellent on a recent lunch time visit, well presented, creative & tasty. Service was friendly & efficient. The main dining area with windows onto the street is elegant with white clothed, well spaced tables, I greatly preferred this room to the rather unappealing wine lounge at the back of the property.

Excellent food as always, so consistent. Staff very professional, very friendly and brilliant service. Always have the pannacotta when on the menu as it is superb. Made Valentines evening a real pleasure for six of us. Would also recommend Sunday lunch which is a treat!!

My wife and I regularly go to Pauls - on average every couple of weeks - and have done so since they first opened for business in the late 1990's.

The goats cheese starter and lamb main are my favourites, but every meal at Paul’s is delightful. Staff are friendly and efficient. The lunch menu is great value. We ate there twice in December, once for lunch with friends, and again in the evening on New Year’s Eve. It remains my favourite restaurant.

What a find . Venison was amazing . Staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble . The puddings alone are worth the trip , they are that good we had two! Can’t wait to go back .

Last night we enjoyed a fabulous Christmas meal here. It's the first time I have been to Paul's and it definitely will not be the last. The staff were friendly and attentive, the meal was delicious and piping hot. The restaurant was tastefully festive creating a warm and welcoming environment. 36 members of our club met for our annual Christmas Dinner. The service was very good, the seating arrangements good and the food, excellent.

Catering for a large group of people without resorting to a set menu, is always a challenge for a restaurant. Paul’s passed with flying colours. Our party of 20 former work colleagues, from all over the country, met there recently for a reunion. We were impressed by the ambience of the venue, excellence of the food and superb service. The willingness of the whole team at the restaurant to ‘go the extra mile’ ensured that our party enjoyed a fantastic experience. We will definitely be back!

This is the only restaurant that I've been to where you're offered four separate menus plus a wine list. It's totally confusing but if you take a moment to figure it all out the value can be fantastic. I'd recommend the 'sun downer' menu (which they give you at lunch time - weird) which works out at something like £12 for two courses (£15 for three). You can order the some of the same dishes from the other menus and pay more. I have no idea why the owner wants to make it all so confusing but the food and value (if you get the right menu) make it a good place to eat.

We were visiting relations and booked for Sunday lunch. It was very busy and service suffered. It took 2.5 hrs for a simple 3 course lunch and all they said was “sorry for the wait” none asked if we wanted more drinks and they got a small change to a dessert was forgotten. Even the food was mediocre. I don’t know what method they used to cook the roast potatoes but they were very odd. It was not he worst meal I’ve ever had, but it wasn’t one of the best either

Our party of 8 had an excellant lunch.There was a comfortable area to sit , have a drink and study the menu before moving through to the dining area.We had two courses for £16.50 There was a wide choice and the service was first rate. All the meals were well cooked and very tasty. We will certainly visit again in the future
