Pasta Cibo in St Albans

I have been using this restaurant since it first opened some 40 years ago and I have never had a bad meal.

simple but great food, even over Covid we were getting amazing takeaway meals, can wait for our next order.

Great service tonight from Pasta Cibo when the Deliveroo driver dropped off the wrong box! The restaurant jumped into action and got it sorted directly, very quickly. Both the pizza and pasta we had was excellent - thank you, I hope Deliveroo reimburse you!

Very long standing traditional Italian that’s avoided changing too much and sticks to what it does so well, good, wholesome dishes. It’s one of those menus you look at and could eat almost everything! Good portion sizes and a friendly rustic atmosphere. We loved it and will return again and again..

Great Italian food and service. Decent specials complement a menu packed with classic pasta, meat, fish and pizza dishes.

Creative, cosy, intimate decor and very good food. The only thing we were rather disappointed on was the tiramisu but the main dishes were great!

I visited recently for dinner with my husband and daughter. It's been about 10 months since I ate there and I was glad to see everything looked the same. The restaurant was full but the waitresses were efficient. I did comment to my husband that the prices were still the same and had not increased which was a pleasant surprise. Whenever we eat at Pasta Cibo we always have the same starters and main courses , however I did notice that the portions were a lot smaller than previously. I initially thought it was just because I was hungry but when I mentioned the portion size to my husband and daughter they both agreed the portion sizes were a lot smaller than previously however we did enjoy the food and I am sure we will return.

Very friendly staff, made to feel welcomed, good prices, the decor is very authentically Itanlian, and the food arrived very quickly - under 15 minute wait. That’s all the positives.As for the main event the pizzas were surprisingly poor. Like Tesco value pizzas that as they slightly cool they fall apart as if made of old bread. Quite basic flavours, to the point I’d say they were bland. As I say, seemed like very cheap supermarket pizzas.It was very confusing as the majority of the reviews are excellent. I’d not eat there again, even with the positives I started this review with.

I went there for a lunch time meal June 2019 and it was lovely. I went there tonight for a date night with hubby and it really was disgusting and not worth the money. The £20 bottle of rose tasted like a cheap £3 bottle of yuck. The mozzarella was under cooked and hard in the middle and the tortellini only tasted of cheese and the cannelloni looked and tasted like cat foot. We both felt yuck afterwards. The waitress took ages to come and no offer of desert...not that we would have taken it. For the price they charged definitely go to zaza harpenden its more authentic and Italian their. Such a shame but i won't waste my money here again as it has made both of us feel physically ill. Also nice to see the chef getting pre cooked spaghetti out of the box back into boiling water for us all to eat again.

Very authentic place with great atmosphere and high standards of food. The service is next to none and with a smile. We will be back.

This is a small place full of character and very popular with the locals as it appeared! Not sure why we never visited before but this will not he our last visit. The antipasto was great and the main courses even better. See you all soon.

My wife and I we were travelling to the airport and since we were early for our flight we decided to search around and we came across this hidden gem. The staff are welcoming and the food just fresh and full of flavours. Great experience and we highly recommend it.

Have eaten in this restaurant on many occasion always brilliant, my sisters favourite when she visits.

We've been meaning to try Pasta Cibo for years so i look my wife and 8 year old for her birthday. What a terribly underwhelming experiance. Food was okay but nothing special but what was sad was how poor the service was. Italian Restaurants usually excell at service and especially around kids but tonight we felt that we were causing them an issue by being there. No offer of black pepper, no offer of chilli oil, no offer of water for the table and we even had to ask for a straw for my son, No goodnight when we paid and in short, nothing to make us want to go back,

This a small and very friendly restaurant, with the most delicious food cooked fresh. You can see the chefs cooking. The fish is particularly good. The restaurant has been here for many years and continues to be popular and busy. The standard is high and you will not be disappointed.

Stopped off here for an unplanned dinner. Had not booked but they squeezed us in! I have never visited before and the food was fantastic. The pizza really tasted home made and was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. My wife had sea bass which was also perfectly cooked and was a decent portion size. I will definitely return!

Finally a proper Italian place! Obviously, the menu has some English dish but if you ask, you can have the proper carbonara without the cream but with the eggs!!! You will be surprise!!!

A good small italian restaurant in Station Road. Nice service good food and reasonable prices with very drinkable house wine in half caraffes or bottles. One to go back to.

We took my daughter here for her birthday - everyone, including two very fussy children at 4 and 5, loved the food and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was great. Mozzarella Bella was a definite winner!

Me and my other friends decided to go in harpenden so we had few drinks across the road and book the table for 5 at pasta cibo at 8 clock! we were so welcome by the staff and very smiley had lovely dinner best service by the Waiter ! and it was very busy on Tuesday night!

Although we are not regulars, we have visited Pasta Cibo on a few occasions though we hadn't been there for over a year or so. We went with a family group and dined on a Tuesday evening. Nothing has changed much since our last visit which ids good news. Warm, friendly welcome. Cosy seating arrangements as it's always busy, but most importantly really good quality food at a reasonable price. We has a range of dishes between us going from Pizzas to different pasta dishes and all were excellent. Never tire of this place, well done Pasta Cibo

I have been going to the restaurant for many years and nearly always have the mussels. You used to get much more mussels and two big lumps of bread and topped off with a KING prawn !!. Instead I got NOT a lot of mussels four small bits of bread ( which looked like a roll cut up) and all topped with a shrimp !! Fit for a King ?? I dont think so !!... My wife had the tortellini and although she is not a big eater she felt the portion size was small.

Birthday dinner and didn't disappoint. Friendly family restaurant,very busy because its very good. Lovely food and great service. Would highly recommend.

I have eaten at Pasta Cibo with my family on 3 or 4 occasions. Excellent service and food. Fabulous lasagne !! Really hard to beat and family run I believe.

We love this cosy little restaurant. By far my favourite place to eat in Harpenden. And one of my favourite restaurants in any location. Still a ridiculously low £7.99 set lunch will get you a pizza or pasta plus a small. glass of wine and a coffee.

Visited here for lunch, the lunchtime menu is really good value for money . Service was quick and food was delicious. My only comment would be that the staff could be a little more welcoming. I visited with my friend who is blind and I think a little more consideration would have been helpful. Saying that, I would still return and recommend

Had been several times before and always had great service and food but this time it seemed as if the staff couldn't be bothered, just went through the motions. They were not rude or anything but we were used to an extremely welcoming and friendly service in the past. The food was of good portion size but pretty basic and not very tasty unfortunately. The same can be said of the three different main meals we had. All pasta dishes.

Not been back here for a while. The decor has not changed and is still quirky and a laugh. However the food was very average considering the general food competition in the town from several Italian venues. Basic tomato and Mozzarella salad was under seasoned and heavy on the iceberg lettuce. My Nonna's lasagna was a small portion and served so hot the sauce was actually boiling! House red was nice though and good value. Lastly the staff started out bored and offish until we warmed THEM up with a bit of conversation. Again, considering the competition in the town I think thats a bit strange.

Great value, in comfy familiar surroundings with friendly staff. Well worth a visit. The food is always good and wine reasonably priced.

I know Pasta Cibo is popular but i cant think why. Maybe the location? Pretty ordinary food and decor from the 70s. The restaurant and menu could do with an overhaul

A decent local Italian which hasn't changed much in the 20 years since we were last there! Decent sized portions, good pizza, reasonably priced wine list.

The food here doesn't tend to disappoint. I went here on a work meal so there was quite a few people. I'd say 90% were happy with their meal. Two people weren't overly impressed but they might just be fussy eaters.

My favourite restaurant for many, many years .....let me down with a tasteless, soggy/under-cooked pizza. And our two course meal was served in under 30 minutes (If I wanted fast food I would have got a pizza takeaway).

Goodness this place is awful! I don't understand how it's packed night after night. I can cook better at home! My plate had a HUGE chip in it. The prawn wrapped in filo where obviously from a supermarket and just put in the oven. With so many other places to eat in Harpenden do not bother!

The food and staff in this little restaurant are awesome , spent birthdays and mothers day here - cracking lil place.

I will never understand why this is 7th and Bar Azita, a few doors down, is first!! Bonkers. This place is ten times as good. Much MUCH better service and better quality food.

We have been coming to this restaurant since the early 1990s and we never fail to have a fantastic meal. Wonderful whole baked mozzarella in tomato sauce, sea bass cooked to perfection followed by tiramisu.

Lovely atmosphere when I popped in to collect our takeaway. Pasta was very nice with good portions and flavor! Will plan to go there for a meal soon

I really love the food here. They have a great menu. I have loved everything I have ever ordered. Their lunch special is an amazing deal, especially for Harpenden. I often order for pick up and it is always delicious!! Love the staff here. Very friendly.

The three of us kicked off with some garlic bread and Frascati wine. We were relatively early so bagged the window table, but the restaurant soon attracted a good number of diners (on a mid-week). A really pleasant, homely place and everyone having fun.

Best Italian food in Harpenden and surrounding. Fresh, tasty HOT Italian dishes served quickly. Restaurant is cosy and intimate (small) but authentic atmosphere. Plenty of artifices surrounding. Good quality wines. Service with a smile. Would like to highly recommend but worried we won’t be able to get s table booking then!!

Real Italian food cooked by Italian chefs! The food is wonderful and reasonably priced! The owner and his family are wonderful!

Visited in July for the first time in some years and really loved it. Nice atmosphere and ambience with simple Italian food done nicely. Service was good too. Nipped in again a couple of weeks later just to try their pizzas - fresh and tasty.

Walk through the door and you are instantly in Italy! Good food and service, with daily specials. The seating is a little cramped, but don't let this detract from the atmosphere.

Had dinner here 4th May 2018, cosy with a good atmosphere! We both had the Liver and Bacon which was slightly overpowered by the sauce! I’d probably still go back!

Booked by phone for 9.00pm next evening explaining celebrating 3 birthdays & asking for good table. Told by 9.00pm most people would have gone & would probably have choice of tables. In reality, place was packed & we were offered an extremely cramped table.

We have visited probably one of the oldest established restaurants in Harpenden on numerous occasions. A very small and cosy place with a good atmosphere. The food and drink are also consistently good and competitively priced. It must have traded in Station Road for over 30 years!

I’m not 100% sure why everyone is raving about this place. It was ok but seriously nothing special at all. I wouldn’t bother going back for food I can easily cook at home.

What can be said? Authentic decor, dedicated menu with specials that change once in a blue moon, a staff who have been there for so long and do such a Sterling job for everyone. Limoncello at the end of the night. The crab linguine is brilliant but ataplea like the pizzas and particularly the gnocchi are just perfect. The most welcoming restaurant around and certainly the best Italian in Hertfordshire (of course most people already know this) long may it continue.

Came here with my friend, once before to celebrate my sister's birthday, aswell as many other occassions and no one has ever been at all disappointed. Excellent range of foods + drinks and lovely, thoughtful staff.

Had an absolutely lovely experience at Pasta Cibo. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, and the décor individual and charming. The staff were friendly, helpful, and very attentive; it was easy to get their attention when necessary without them seeming pushy or overbearing, and they were clearly knowledgeable about their menu. The food itself was delicious, authentic, and clearly freshly made, good value, with a lot of variety on the menu for all tastes, and dessert was one of the nicest I've had in a long time! Looking forward to going back!

A really lovely small restaurant, which has a really authentic Italian feel. The food and service was excellent. We went with our two young children, who both enjoyed the food and were made very welcome. The meal seemed quite expensive but did include drinks. We will definitely be going back to try again.

We chose this place as it looked very cosy and quaint and was fairly busy which is usually a good sign. We were served very quickly and enjoyed the meal. Good service and value - proper authentic Italian cooking.

Dropped in on spec for lunch halfway through an 8-mile walk having checked the place out on TA earlier in the day. They have an amazingly good-value special on at lunchtime. A plate of pasta - my wife had Spaghetti Alla Vongole and I had Fettuccine Contadina - a small glass of house wine (very good) and coffee for £7.99. Great value. We added to the spread with a lovely shared bruschetta and a shared dessert. The house wine they serve as part of the deal was lovely (Trebbiano) so we went for a 75cl carafe of the same. Really good wine and great value. I love it when they serve wine by the carafe. The pasta was amazing; delicious sauces. Lovely place, great ambience, friendly staff - highly recommended.

It has been many years since I last visited this small bistro, and what a delight to return. The food was just as I remembered fresh wholesome and very very tasty. The interior décor has not changed, but then again why should it, it is typical Italian Bistro style with the fishing nets on the ceiling from which are suspended bottles of Chianti etc. Plenty of Italian memorabilia around the walls. This is rustic and fun. The serving staff could be a little more attentive but the food was just great. The menu has not changed much and I was able to have the meal I used to have years ago, Mussels to start followed by Pasta with Meat Balls as Mamma used to make. It all tasted fabulous.

We walked in to the restaurant on Sunday evening and they quickly found us a table.I love atmosphere in this restaurant, especially on a cold autumn evenings! Staff were very friendly, order was taken and food served very promptly. Portions are really big and obviously our dinner was delicious. Been to this restaurant couple times already and they never disappointed me. Also would like to mention that restaurant and kitchen looks really clean. This is very important. Keep up the good work!!!

I've been here a several times over the last ten years with the family to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries etc, I've always enjoyed the atmosphere, authenticity, service and food, so for me it's the only Italian I visit in Harpenden, let's keep all the riffraff at zaza, pizza express and all the rest of the boring fake Italian chains

Visited for lunch during a busy working day had calves liver from the main menu. Great choice well presented and full of flavor. Restaurant was quite busy for lunch time but service was good. Decor quirky but authentic. Good atmosphere, will definitely return

I hadn't been for about 13 years, as the last time I had a very poor meal. The staff at that time I believe had a argument with each other, which made a not very nice evening. Tonight we took a chance, FANTASTIC really excellent meal, as good as an Italian gets. I will now put it back on my regular list of restaurants. Well done Pasta Cebo.

As always Pasta Cibo provided a very tasty meal. All three of us enjoyed our starters-mushrooms with bacon, scampi and the ante pasta. We all chose pasta for our main course and were delighted with it. We shared the homemade tiramisu, absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly. Last year I accidentally left my purse in the restaurant. They brought it to my house having seen the address on my drivers licence. How kind was that? Beyond the call of duty.

Had a family meal here, it took a good 10/12 mins before we were approached for drinks. The two staff members were very uninterested in serving us, the waiter walked away before even taking all of our drinks orders. Towards the end of the meal we were not offered a desert menu and unfortunately one of us had to go up to ask for the bill where the waiter was picking at his shoes...Despite this the food was very nice and the chefs were friendly. It wouldn't put us off but not usual excellent welcoming service!

This is a lovely quaint, little Italian just off of Harpenden high street, it's always busy and I've never had a bad meal there. Their homemade tiramisu is absolutely amazing and worth a visit in itself.

Love this place, 2nd time now and it's got a friendly service with fantastic ambience. The food is lovely but a little too much tomato sauce that's not cooked long enough, as still quite sour in my bolognese. Other than that the prawns starters, the charcuterie so so tasty and delicious. It's always busy so make sure you book or get there early around 6-7pm. Great price 3 course meal for two no wine is around £40.

Pasta cibo serves delicious Italian food in a lovely casual restaurant. Service was excellent and half portions of the pasta dishes can be served as starters/kids meals. It was so good I've been twice in the last week and will return soon!

Went for a genuine Italian meal and wasn't disappointed. There is a huge selection of dishes to choose from. Mine and my gf's meals were both full of flavour and hot. Wine was also of a good quality. A lovely intimate restaurant and good service. Will come back again.

We ate at Pasta Cibo on a recent bank holiday after having trouble finding anywhere open to eat. Lucky for us, they were open until 12am! It's a cozy adorably decorated little dining room with a window into the kitchen. One of the chefs noticed me out on my jacket because I was a little chilly and closed a side door to prevent the draft from getting to me. I thought this was particularly thoughtful, since I'm sure they were roasting in the kitchen. They had TONS of vegetarian options, which I greatly appreciated. I had the gnocchi and tiramisu. Both incredibly tasty. Service from the bar was excellent. Will be back the next time we are in Harpenden.

Had a lovely evening wirh friends here. There was a lot to choose from on the menu and it was great for the vegetarians amongst us too. I had the gnocchi which was divine. The waiters were great too. I was a bit disapointed that there wasn't any tiramisu left by the time we ordered but cest La vie.We were last to leave but never felt rushed out of there as the staff were clearing up. Will be back and preorder a slice of tiramisu at the beginning of the night

I have been here a few times and the food has always been excellent. It is homemade and cooked right in front of you. Very homey and cosy place to eat. They do a great lunchtime offer during the weekdays. It is always packed in the evenings so I would recommend making a reservation. The staff and service are great! With little restaurants like this I find it hard to see why people would go to Pizza Express / Prezzo in Harpenden. They are a complete rip off and the food is not as good as it is at Pasta Cibo :)
