Parkgate Takeaway in Cheshire West and Chester

I am interested to see if anyone else knows of a better fish and chips in that area. I could fault the fish and chips. Service was very quick and organised even though there was a que I do feel if they where not as organised as they are the wait would be longer. I would prefer fentimens dandelion and burdock Instead of Ben shaws. I would pay extra as your fish and chips are worth it

Recommend by friends, not disappointed.We ordered fish and chips X2.Portions where just Ok, little on the expensive side so only based on that we will go again but not regular, purely on cost not quality.Another plus we paid by card.Due to Covid food served from behind a screen, of course no indoor seating which spoils the actual chip shop.Go and enjoy.

What happened to the chips??? Really love this place but totally let down tonight!. Chips looked refried and very greasy!. Fish was absolutely lovely as were peas and gravy!. Always loved their little crispy chips!. Still same lovely staff with new people there!. Won’t rush back - what a shame as had these rated as number 1!

Best chippy chips ever. Crispy, no grade. Fish perfectly cooked. Proper mushy peas. Flawless. Live miles away but periodically take my parents. Never disappointed.

Had heard about Parkgate fish and chip shop, so thought we would give it a go. Fish was NOT cod it was round and flat and tasted awful, chips to be fair were quite nice but at nearly £9 not good value for money. Sausage and Chips £5. I Will not be returning.

Called in a couple of times during lockdown, just for a change of scenery and freshly cooked food. Great fish and chips served through a hatch due to covid restrictions. Like many people out for a walk we sat on the wall outside looking over to Wales, an amazing view and enjoyed our chips. Well worth a drive out.

Hot and fresh, delicious fish & chips! Nothing better to sit on the wall on a lovely summer's day and take in the fresh air and ambience of this beautiful village. Overlooking some gorgeous views as well. A real treat.

Been here twice now on way to shopping and has been very tasty will pop in again soon when in area or next shop

There is something quintessentially English about walking along the fore-shore on a dull mid-winter day, and then scoffing frehly cooked fish n chips.Mother Nature provided the setting, and the Parkgate Chippy delivered on the food.Lovely cod, great chips, hardly any excess fat and all freshly prepared. The fish and chips were outstanding, especially as I requested them to be left open so they were crisp and delicious. Good, covid-safe professional service and efficient staff. Would highly recommend.

We bought fish and chips, and were pretty disappointed. The battered fish was the size of my hand, and had clearly been butterflied so was very dry and extremely thin, and I couldn't eat it. I don't wish to detract people from your business but for nearly £8 a portion it is very poor.

We got chips and mushy peas. It was very good. It was quite busy when we went on a Sunday afternoon.

What on earth has happened to Parkgate Fish and Chips? We are local to this shop but last week opted to drive much further to another fish and chip shop as we had been so disappointed after our last visit to your shop - The chips were overcooked and the fish was very thin, tasteless and covered in far too much batter. Come on Parkgate Fish and Chips, you can do better than this!

£7.00 for fish and chips ,so price has been hiked and portion smaller(served in a smaller tray).Chips where dried out because they had prob been sitting there to long.This place used to be busy -now its not-and it isnt to do with the c word.They need to sort out the above.

I've no idea how anyone can rate the chips more than 1 star. We used to love getting a tray of chips as we walked along Parkgate front but won't be getting them any more. Absolutely dreadful.

service was great got my chips battered cod and mushy peas with curry in 4 mins plus its so tasty the tables are cleaned after every use and they are kind to every customer and they dont expect a tip when i gave the chef a tip of 10 pound he refused but eventually took it.my kids beg to come here often and say its the best chippy ever i agree.

Last time i visited was over 12 months ago and it was excellent - having visited again today, unfortunately it seems to have gone downhill. As many others have noticed, the trays are now very small and only seems to hold about 20 chips. The fish are also now quite small (and in my case very much over-cooked and having very little batter). The worst part however were the peas - no liquid at all (certainly not mushy), just lots of extremely hard processed green things - they were actually quite nasty and inedible. I think they've taken their cost-cutting too far.

Great food as always. They’re a little more expensive than your average chippy but it is worth it. They’ve change the sausages from your average chip shop sausage to a much tastier version with herbs which I highly recommend. The fish, as always, is amazing. Set up well to protect customers and themselves against COVID with waiting points 1 to 5, sanitising stations, screen dividers at the ordering/collection point.

Portion size has shrunk by a third and prices are more expensive than ever, kids portion size, the fish is a joke and not nearly enough chips! This is standard as the tray they use is tiny! Not good enough guys-wont be returning as often..

Why advertise open only to find you have shut more than 30mins early? Change your opening hours if your going to do this

Very disappointed with what we ordered. Very expensive for what you got we Spent £30 2 adults and 3 children , it was the smallest tray of fish and chips ever & The sausages are not proper chippy sausages and the 3 kids didn’t like them. Social distancing rules were good but won’t be returning!

Don't worry about facemasks. We don't wear them in Wales and have much lower death and infection rate than England. Just enjoy the marvellous fish and chips. Fish chips and peas twice for £16.80. Great value and service. Will be back again soon.

Not very busy - I only waited for 1 customer. The service was very quick for fish & chips - soon I finished my order, I received my order almost instantly. Indoor sitting was not allowed because of Covid-19. The fish was a bit small for the price charge. I came here especially to support Amex small shop scheme, but my Amex card was not accepted. They said that they did not connect their machine and asked me to pay with a different card. As a result I lost £5 cash back from Amex.

Visited today and just had takeaway chips but I can honestly say they were the best chips from a chip shop I have EVER had!Queue was long but moved very quickly and when I got to the counter I could understand why the queue moved so quick, the 3 staff behind the counter had an amazing system for serving the food, I was mesmerised!Very safe procedures in place with sanitizer available and at the counter the staff are behind plastic screens that open to serve the food.We will definitely be calling again when we are next in the area

Visited Park gate to see if the fish and chip shop had reopened and was delighted to see it had - pavement marked out as was the shop. Servers behind a screen and most folks using masks - sadly not all a group of 20 something young ladies were mask-less and seemed to think it amusing that us oldies were all using them - so irresponsible. Fish and chips were as good as we remembered - great to see you back again

Had a takeaway again last night. Shared a fish chips and peas with my stepdaughter and there was more than enough for the 2 of us. The batter was light and crispy and everything was piping hot. If you’re not a fan of fish then I can definitely recommend the steak pies. Homemade and full of lovely big chunks of steak. So lucky to have this place on my doorstep

This has always been our number one choice for fish & chops but sadly no more. Having been tonight for the first time since the lock down the fish and chips fitted easily into a very small tray and was just about average in taste. The prices have gone up and the portions have shrunk by almost 50%. Soggy fish - disappointed is an understatement.

For the 2nd time I drove for 10 miles as the website showed that the shop was open.I went tonight because the website states that it is open everyday, but when I arrived the sign states they it’s not open Monday and Tuesday.Not sure why the owner can’t get his act together and change the web site, but I won’t be making this journey again.

We went to Park Gate this evening for fish and chips... we've really been looking forward to it opening again after lockdown as the fish dinners are usually delicious, especially the crispy lightly battered fish! However, the fish was really disappointing this evening - extremely small compared to what I've had in the past and really soggy!

Just been this evening with family. We all had a small fish, chips n peas. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, all freshly made and piping hot. Compliment to the chef. Definitely worth a trip you won’t be disappointed and we actually travelled from West Derby, Liverpool.

Called Monday as we thought would be nice to have fish and chips but shop closed and no signs as to if it will open disappointed that they haven’t updated as to when and if they will be open. As this is probably the best fish and chips around

Visit here often and it's always good.Lovely and clean seating area, waiter always wipes the table over before you sit.The food is piping hot, curry is a 10/10 and fish is fresh and batter light. Worth the travelling distance when you fancy fish and chips and also worth the money.Parking can be a bit tricky but always find a space in the end.

Called in today for chips and pie! Good sized beautiful cooked, fresh tasty food! Staff where friendly and polite, lovely clean warm eating area. Perfect 😊

Of an age now where I remember fish and chips wrapped in newspaper on a cold winter night where just the smell of salt and vinegar would warmed us up. Their generous proportions reflect the delicious taste of food served in an old fashioned seating area or watching the twinkling lights on Deeside across the marsh as you walk along the quaint promenade watching the sunset over the hills.

Without doubt the best on Wirral by a mile, any others that pride themselves on being number 1 should take heed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Best Fish and Chips for miles at reasonable prices. Eating in is available with a great atmosphere with diners appreciating good service by a jolly staff.

Even though there were no seats available in the chippy restaurant, I wasn't bothered in the slightest. The service is exceptional and the food is as I remembered it from my previous visit; so it's no surprise that there was no room to eat inside.

Disappointed. Chose this after reading reviews on here. It’s a chinese-run chippy advertising North Atlantic cod - £4.80 - this is absolutely not cod! It’s panga. Batter was good but very expensive for panga. Peas and chips good. Shop is cold and draughty and you have to clear your own table.

Very good food and unusual but pleasant indoor seating area - if you want to avoid the weather and seagulls ! Also quite small indoor seating so not always spaces. Quite expensive for a fish & chip shop but probably worth it for the quality.

Just try them and see how good they are. They also have an area inside to eat should you not want to enjoy the beautiful view of North Wales (and seagulls)

Overpriced chips! Lots of small 'bitty ends'. Overhyped. The Parade needs another fish and chip shop to give these people some competition.

Its becoming a tradition that me and the hubby come here for our Halloween date we order or meal and sit in to eat. Everytime we visit here the food is always great. Hot fresh fish with fresh hot chips lovely mushy peas and the best curry & gravy it's always a decision which sauce to pick. Tables are always clean and the young staff that wait on are always polite they even try to recycle in here. Only issue that is not a reflection on the establishment is the parking is a bit of a nightmare during busy periods. Hygiene rating is also a 5

Had fish & chips on the Parkgate prom. Superb. A little expensive but worth it. Will definitely be back.

Lovely location shame about food, had fish and chips to take out waited 15 mins for fish only to find that once left shop that the fish was off didn’t take it back due to being on much break and no time

A real chippy, cod, sausage, pies and chips are the main menu in this little gem of a chippy. No long lists of takeaway dinners etc.

We stopped briefly at Parkgate on our way home from the Wirral, intending to have ice cream. However, we were not really inspired by the choice and wandered on up the street. A delicious aroma assailed our nostrils as we passed this chip shop. We had thought we were not hungry but couldn't resist. Lots of people were eating inside and there was a queue at the counter. As soon as I saw a Chinese gentleman behind the servery, I felt we were in the right place. Having got our food, we chose to sit outside to admire the view. The food was amazing. Perfectly cooked, moist fish in a light as air crunchy batter. And the chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. What a delight. Can't wait to go back.

Always great fish & chips with a great view outside, or sit inside and serve yourself, then off to the ice cream shop for desert. Wonderful.

I went out for a birthday treat and of course headed here. The fish had just come straight from the fryer. Omigod. It was delicious and the chips were completely perfect. Dog friendly indoors too. Or it on the prom with magnificent views. Been going here for years and just gets better!

Had the best fish & chips in Parkgate! We sat an ate on the front in in the restaurant because was a lovely evening but most people were doing tbe same,lovely!

This is only the second time I have visited since it extended its inside seating area. Not sure whether it has changed hands again but it’s of no significance as the chips etc are as good as they always have been. Well worth a visit if you visit the front at Parkgate.

Stopped by here with a group of young people halfway through a sponsored walk so they were ready for their lunch! The chips were light and golden, the pies had proper chicken and steak inside surrounded by excellent pastry and the savouries just melted. Lovely staff and decor. Thank you!!!

We always stop here for fish and chips when we visit Parkgate. Fantastic food at reasonable price and you can also sit in to eat if you so wish. Definitely worth a visit, you wouldn’t be disappointed if you love traditional British fish and chips

This is the best chippy around it's a shame it's not abit bigger with more seating but it well worth going cuz the fish is fantastic This chippy dose get busy but it's worth the wait

Having heard this was the best fish and chip shop in the north west, we made a point of calling in on our way back from the Wirral. Located right on the parade, there was already a queue in the street 15 minutes before it opened. Inside are tables and chairs to eat in or you can opt to have food wrapped to take out. Portions come in different sizes, although the small option was plenty big enough; and at £6 for fish and chips, not badly priced. Fish was lovely; light and flaky but batter was a bit on the greasy side for me. Easy enough to remove without spoiling the fish. Very clean, with eating area set apart from the serving area. Would definitely go there again.

Discovered this chippy a few years back and every time we’ve been since the quality is excellent. The perfect chip - nice and crunchy with lots of salt and vinegar - and fresh fish with a crisp batter. Nice sitting on the wall or benches along the front watching the sunset :)

Went last Saturday evening after reading reports about the availability of GF fish and chips... a rare commodity these days. The fish was beautiful white cod and the batter very crispy, together with the chips it was a winning combination.

It took 25 minutes to get served but the fish and chips were lovely. It was a busy bank holiday so understandable. Lovely lunch

The fish is all cooked to order but the wait is never more than a few minutes. The staff are excellent, lovely seating area with amazing views - just perfect!!

I come here regularly, the queue is always long but goes down very quickly. I love the fish and chips. It's the best I've tasted. Seating inside is limited but I've never stuggled to find a table or you can sit outside and admire the views.

Amazingly good fish and chips. Well known and used by many on the Wirral ( also a coach full of french students who loved it) you can eat inside as well. Lovely views of the Dee river and Wales.

Don't let the long queue outside the door put you off. That's just a sign of how good the food is here. The service is very quick, so it's well worth the wait! The gluten-free batter is also well worth a try.

Opening hours listed on the website and the shop front say open till 9 pm. Turned up at 8.20 pm to find the door locked, closed sign in the window and see the staff at the back of the shop. The staff ignored the fact that we were trying to get their attention, knocking on the door to ask why they had closed so early. It's true, they are the best fish & chips around however the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Very disappointed

How many times have we been here? It is almost perfection in terms of very light and crispy battered-cod, ample portions of chips and all the other accoutrements... sausages, mushy peas, gravy, chicken and the rest. There is almost always a queue, and isn't that the best recommendation for any restaurant? We visit whenever we're in Parkgate and have enjoyed it every single time. Very reasonably priced, too.

Excellent chippy with all the good old fashioned meals you would wish for. Small and cosy so get there early to get a seat/table or eat out on the front in summer with the wonderful views across the Dee to Wales.

Best chippy we've ever been to, in terms of the food and that you can eat in. There are benches directly outside but most people sit out in the sun on the wall across the road...mind the sea gulls though!

Had take-away fish and chips from here numerous times and never been let down yet. Good quality fish and well cooked selling a variety of extras such as curry sauce and mushy peas. Not cheap but also not expensive. Would recommend, best in local area.

We have been useing this chip shop since the days of it being featured in the Liverpool echo. It's changed hands since then and now has an indoor eating area . It's always been consistently good.fish is always fresh and chips spot on . What's not to like .always a que which is a good sign . Parking is a nightmare in pargate at the best of times ,so

Visited with family for a quick tea before going to football. Fast service, fantastic food and pleasant eating area. Always busy which speaks for itself.

Have eaten here a few times and it’s been consistently good. You can eat inside, and on warm days they open the front of the building to let lots of air in which is nice, there are couple of seats directly outside the building or you can sit on the wall opposite as many do and have takeaway. It’s a very busy fish and chip shop so the pace is fast they make everything fresh so sometimes there is a bit of waiting around for your meal. With this fast pace, often means service isn’t the friendliest which is a shame.

Old style fish and chip shop only thing out of place was the tv blaring out horse racing on a Saturday afternoon I had to ask the waiter to lower the volume, which he obliged to thank goodness

the fish and chips are just ok if u ask for gluten free batter on your fish and u only want one portion off fish the do not seem very happy in any way or form if u ask for lightly battered fish then the answer u get is they are all lightly battered not true they just can not be bothered doing a fish with light batter on it, its expensive good for a chip shop

Went on Monday this week. Been going for fish and chips at Parkgate for many years. We were so disappointed, the chips were very greasy and tasted greasy too, the fish was definitely not cod and was tasteless. We ate half as we were hungry, the other half went in the bin. We definitely will not be making the effort to drive neatly a 60 mile round trip again!!!!

Beautiful portion of freshly cooked cod and lovely crisp freshly cooked chips - Fish 'n Chips as it should be. Highly recommended

Ample sized portions, decently priced and service was prompt and friendly. Small indoor seating area and tables are self cleared- due to this bins can be over flowing at times.

At last we made the effort to try this place after hearing how good it was. We arrived just before opening at teatime, about 3 people in the queue before us and yet it took 20 minutes to get served by one person working on her own who was so miserable. I ordered 2 fish and 1 small portion of chips between us, they were nice but definetly not worth nearly £14 !! there are some nice chippys close to us just as good and a lot cheaper, wouldn't travel that far for them again.

Every visit to UK Wirral West Kirby is incomplete without having the fish n chips at Parkgate. It’s amazingly tasty and the service is with a smile but be there before 9 pm or ull miss it
