This was the worst service I ever experience. Firstly, the lady who served us took more than 15 minutes to take our order in a supposedly fast Thai restaurant. Being a BYOB, we had to to ask corkscrew and open the bottle ourselves while the bottle was obviously on the table since we seat there at the beginning. To add on those very negative points, we didn't got desert proposed because we were on the table of two in the middle of two available table and a family came in. When I asked for one the rude lady showed disdain and pretend there were no more ice cream to make the banana fritters. The nice solution would have been to propose to seat at the counter to have our dessert or just to get our order as fast as possible so we would have time to get our desert and smoothly leave. The food was nice but nothing amazing for a Thai and justify the affordable price, however I will not recommend that place and will never put a foot there again.

If you are looking for fine dining, this place is not for you. If however you want authentic, delicious Thai cooking in a friendly homely environment in which you walk past the kitchen on the way to your seats, then you will think this place is amazing. I happen to be in the category of people who think Paolina’s is fantastic. The portions are perfectly sized, you can bring your own alcohol, the service is friendly and efficient, and the prices are amazing. But more important than any of that, the food is delicious. I have been coming for the last few months and have had amazing soups, beautiful curries, tasty salads and wonderful noodle dishes. Quite simply, I am yet to have a bad or even mediocre dish. This includes a night where they shared with us that they were very short staffed. Also, if you happen to be vegetarian, they will happily accommodate this should you choose a dish that is not specifically from that part of the menu. Tonight, I asked for tofu rather than chicken/prawns for my fried noodle dish, which was done with a smile and the food was – as usual – amazing. It’s useful to know that it’s cash only and a good idea to book ahead, as there appear to be a growing number of people who think the same so it can be very busy. My friend and I never think of meeting anywhere else. Paolina’s is a gem and I can’t wait to go again.

Myself and two friends had a long weekend in London. We were staying in a Kings Cross and after looking online we decided to book into Paolina's for the Friday evening. Our experience was one of the best meals I have ever had! It's a small restaurant and they turned a lot of people away whilst we were there. Everything is cooked fresh and the cooking area is as public as I've ever seen so you know it's all fresh and good. During the evening we started chatting to two ladies that are friends with the owners.. We just had the best night of laughter, food and chat! We enjoyed it so much we booked for the Saturday night straight away. One of our new friends also joined us. We felt so privileged to have stumbled across such a wonderful authentic experience. It's also BYO and only a £1 a head corkage charged. Brilliant for central London! We will return without doubt and I will be spreading the word about this little gem. The food was to die for, the ambience incredible and the staff faultless. Many other eateries could learn a lot from Paolina's. Thank you for our memories.

I came here on my lunch break and was told it would be a 20 minute wait for my curry and I asked for it not spicy. Afted a 30 min wait i still had more people ahead in the queue and needed to leave soon. They made my curry and it arrived very spicy and with whole chillies chopped in it too. When I raised this I was told not to worry and I didnt have to pay. So I tried to wolf down what i could so i could go back to work but it was not enjoyable and also not that authentic at all. With aubergines that were still raw in it etc. I ate most of the veggies and left all the curry sauce and rice soaked in it, then when i went to leave was told i now had to pay as i had eaten some of the meal. I would not have eaten any of that had i known this was the case. Very annoyed and after lots of arguing I was told I did not have to pay and went back to work hungry and late. Thai is my favourite type of food and I have spent a month in Thailand and this cafe is certainly not my idea of good food. But at least they had the courtesy of not billing me for it.

Just went for lunch with work colleagues who are regulars. I've not been before. Nice place with nice food. However, I ordered a Kra Pow beef Vegetables with rice dish - I asked for it without the rice. The lady (presumably owner) gave me a dirty look when I asked please can I have more Veg instead of the rice. The dish is advertised at £5.80 which is great. When I got to the till after eating she asked me for £6.50. I told her it cost £5.80 to which shew replied but we gave you more vegetables and beef. I didn't ask her to give me more beef, only more vegetables. And I don't think that asking for a bit more veg instead of rice should bump up the price. She gave me it for £5.80 and made a point of saying 'next time £6.50'. I think this is terrible customer service and a terrible thing if you expect repeat custom. I have strong values on this sort of thing - so I won't be back despite the good food and reasonable price.

I went here in March while staying at the nearby Travelodge Kings Cross road. The menu had something for everyone, some being vegetarian. Staff very friendly and efficient. We shared a few bottles of decent wine and varied dishes were all enjoyed. A great night all round! Clean and comfortable place.

Great place and it's BYO. Can't fault the food. Small and perfect for a quick meal. HOWEVER I'm slightly concerned that this restaurant is not VAT registered and when asked for a VAT receipt they couldn't give me one. Unsure how a company can be trading in the UK and not have a VAT number. If someone can tell me otherwise - it would be great for me to know.

Just round the corner from the office with a small but tasty menu choice. The big bowl soup Tom Kha is v nice as are the conventional pad Thai and green / red curries. Very tasty but does get very busy. Go early or later to avoid disappointment. You see the kitchen and chef when you enter. No complaints other than its cash only.

I really like this place, authentic Thai cooking and a nice little place. The only negative is that because it's such a hit with people when you finish your meal you can't drink and take your time, you will have to leave quite quickly and the tables are very close so not great for a date or people that have an issue with overhearing people's convos.

Small mom and pop Thai place tucked in a corner and easy to miss. Small potions but the food is delicious. Cash only and no alcohol but there is a cash machine and store close by. Chicken yellow and red curry hit the spot.

Great tasting thai food, adapted their menu to accommodate my vegetarian needs. The green curry I ordered was authentic and a good portion size and definitely value for money. The staff are friendly, the cafe is cosy and is clean. Could do with a few more vegetarian choices in the starter menu but neither the less they accommodate their veggie visitors in the main menu section as they adapt then into veggie. Remember to bring cash, as they don't take card.

This is a family run Thai restaurant which offers decent food at good value. It's very small with only a handful of tables and although it doesn't look like much from the outside the food is decent. Would recommend, especially if you are on a budget, as you can just take a bottle of wine in with you.

After returning from Thailand recently I'm on a quest to find good genuine Thai restaurants in London. Found Paolina's on Google and thought it looked just the ticket due to being more of a 'cafe' than a big restaurant. When we walked in and saw the little open kitchen at the front I had high expectations for what I thought what be a good 'home-cooked' Thai meal. Ordered the lamb massaman curry, which although reasonably tasty, was a small portion with only 3 cubes of beef and hardly any potatoes. The chicken in garlic was a bit odd and came in a sauce as opposed to the meat being seasoned. Again, very small portion. Disappointing not to have any pork on the menu. The prices are reasonable at around £6.5 a dish (before you have to add rice, of course) and you can bring your own booze for a pound a head. Slightly annoying to be charged this to consume only one beer. The atmosphere was very nice in there though with every table taken. Overall, however, I felt disappointed with the portion sizes and we both said it was like something was missing from the food - not quite flavorsome enough. We left hungry after a main each, rice and a shared starter. If only this restaurant can dramatically up it's portion sizes and improve the flavour/spice on the food they'll be onto a real winner!

I went their with my colleagues and I have waited for 50 min to be served the food. I ordered tom yum noodle soup with seafood. But it was missed at the kitchen. All of food are served except mine. While food is serving, I doubt my food is coming that I went to kitchen and check it twice. She said it will come soon. but finally, it didnt come. it was horrible experience there. the worst situation was about the food. they mad it quickly that all the ingredient was not good. noodle was less than before, soup is too much than amount of the noodle. all taste was totally terrible. I wont be there again. all the harmony of food was not proper. the worst case was how she dealt with it. when I ask to her about tom yum noodle soup with seafood while my colleague is having different menu. she pointed his noodle soup and said that is tom yum soup. but it was not. she just tried to pretend not having a mistake. that attitude made me much angry.

This was the first restaurant my friends and I saw outside our hotel. At first glance, it wasn't very appealing but we decided to give it a shot anyway. The food was surprisingly delicious and a good value for money, and service was also quite efficient. However, there's no proper atmosphere whatsoever, and because the restaurant's quite small, when the place gets crowded it can be really difficult to move around. Overall, it was a good decision to try this place.

We arrived without a reservation and were quickly seated, however it would probably be best to make a reservation as by the time we finished the place was full! The service at the beginning was prompt, our orders were taken quite quickly. The four of us shared the mixed platter to start, it's made for two but we were all satisfied. It went downhill from there, we waited too long for our main course and sat and watched table (who arrived after us) order, eat their starters and mains before we had even got ours! Not sure how they organise this but a table who finishes their starters first should really get their mains before a table who arrived and finished theirs later! In fact, they were finished before we had even got ours. When the food did come, after asking the waitress, it was good. It did start getting really drafty so that made it a bit uncomfortable as we waited for our food. Would recommend this place if you fancy a cheap bite to eat, perhaps a takeaway, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there nor will I return anytime soon

Very small restaurant hidden away off the main road, doesnt look appealing wife wanted to walk away. They do not have a alcohol license but you can bring your own. It might get noise if there is a party in there. but lovely food and good service.

I am very fortunate to have stumbled across this fantastic Thai Café and Restaurant on the doorstep of my flat on Kings Cross Road. Eat in or Take away the restaurant is always busy it is not licensed so you need to bring your own wine but soft drinks are available. The food is cooked in front of you in an open kitchen the ingredients are fresh the staff are very pleasant and the food tastes as good as it looks

The place is family run which is cool. It was super busy - always a good sign. It's byob - great. There were a few 'buts' though... First of all, it was freezing in there. We sat nowhere near the main door, but I could you even take my coat off. Added 0 coziness to our date night.Food wise I have mixed feelings. Starters were really bad - fried battered squid rings were obviously cooked from frozen - I wasn't being naive - I knew the squid itself would have been frozen, but I was hoping the batter would be home made, and fluffy and super light and crispy. None of these expectations came to life. My veggie partner got fried tofu with peanut butter sauce - no twist to it whatsoever - it was just deep fried chunks of tofu with a very unimpressive sauce. For mains we got shrimp salad and a seafood platter. The salad was great, VERY spicy and very fresh and flavoursome all together. We left with no particularly strong satisfaction, but I truly hope this little place can improve.

Came here for dinner last night and the food was delicious and very well priced! (Only £17 for a pad thai, amazing beer curry and sticky rice). It's Bring Your Own alcohol (which we didn't realise) so left our belongings and popped to the local shop. They do charge £1 pp if you bring alcohol which is fine. It's a very cosy place and the service is lovely. Will definitely return and recommend. It's cash only!

I did book ahead and they didn't have the booking, looked rather full but soon sorted us out a table in the back room, and free Thai crackers with dip to apologise. Its rather cosy in there - I was on a date and was a little conscious of the next table being inches away. The food is great, beautifully prepared and delicious. Highly recommended - service was efficient and fast. Will go back.

We had a quick meal here and ordered a salad, rice, green curry and some spicy noodles. Everything was tasty but super super spicy (not just the noodles that my husband was eating). I would definitely go back but request less hear as I think the food was good, but I can't handle chilli like my husband!

The naan was nice and the biryani portion was huge, plus we had a great discount! Didn’t enjoy the prawn purée or the sauces, disappointing considering the fab reviews on here. Maybe we were just unlucky last night!
