Pantmawr Inn in Cardiff

Six of us were there today and all food was excellent. Rump steaks, liver, scampi and fish dishes were cooked to perfection and ample portions. Will be returning.

Lovely cosy pub. Lovely homemade food, brilliant service - brilliant all round . Ps. The Biscoff Cheesecake is an absolute must 😉

Nice pub. Went for the Sunday roast. Service was good, portion size good, meat, veg and meal in general was good. But I think the potatoes were frozen, they'd ran out of a few things and the wait was an hour.

Good burger made great by pulled pork. All burgers need guerkin which was sadly missing. 10/10 guinness

My family and I went to the Pantmawr Inn on Sunday for Sunday lunch; there were about 10 of us attending. Overall it was a fairly standard procedure - no frills and got the job done - but i wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. There are better places in Cardiff to go for Sunday Roast (at any price range). Food: I had pate and toast to start. The pate was okay (a bit too course for my liking), but the toast was terrible. I didn’t realise bread was such a hot commodity right now because with the 4 scant quarters I was rationed, you’d think the Germans were back flying overhead. I had the beef Sunday roast for my main. This was fairly good actually. The beef was tender (although not nice thin slices like you’d expect but rather a slow cooked thing - nice either way). The veg was good. However the roast potatoes were truly abysmal. It was almost like they’ve never selected a roasting potato before because these tasted and felt like undercooked peeled baked potatoes. They weren’t crispy at all and they felt raw in the centre, and they were huge as well so you couldn’t even try and be polite and attempt to finish them. Staff/service: We were left without cutlery after our starters so had to wait a while after our mains were served before we could eat. The wait time for service was already quite long, so this last minute hurdle before eating was particularly frustrating. I asked one of the waitresses if they served mushy peas with the fish and chips rather than garden peas and she said no (which influenced my decision to go for the roast)… later I saw many other diners with mushy peas! Put the option of “mushy or garden” on the menu to limit your staffs’ confusion perhaps? Lastly, why don’t you have some sort of uniform for your waiters/waitresses? Half the staff were walking around in sports gear (tight gym stuff) which just wasn’t nice to have around near the dining table. I’m sure they were clean but I’ve seen that sort of attire in my local gym and it just reminded me of sweat.

Fabulous pub food great, atmosphere great. Staff excellent. This pub has changed beyond recognition since Jen and James took over. Best pub in the area by far.

To be honest the service was extremely slow, but I didn't mind because the stuff was very friendly and nice, the venue is great and the food was excellent!

I have visited this pub for special occasions a few times now. I booked for last Saturday over telephone and offered to call back Friday with orders to make life easier for the pub. Called Friday and asked to do via email, no email address provided sp did via the contact us form, arrived on Saturday and asked the bar lady had they received our order and was told yes. 15 of us waited and eventually were told the order had not been received. We sat in the conservatory and waited over 25 minutes before my daughter approached a waitress. Regardless of being told we would receive a free bottle of wine, this was my dad's 81 st birthday celebration and six children were not even given their desserts. You asked for me to prove I had sent this order which I didn't have to do anyway! This pub is lovely but your staff need the correct training to make sure your customers are looked after. So unfair on a family looking forward to a day out. AND NO WE DIDN'T WANT DISCOUNT WE WANTED OUR MEALS!!

This was the first time visiting the Pantmawr Inn. There were 15 of us, not enough staff, food was rushed so I brought mine back up after 3 hours as not cooked properly. I loved the place just not the food...

Never again, had made a booking few weeks ago and had booked the conservatory. When arrived we were in the bar which was very noisey and had to raise our voices to be heard. The food was all overcooked and chips were like something you get at the end of the night from a fish shop. They stop serving at 8 which is poor so we went to Toby carvery and had desserts there.

I would like to recommend this pub for customers service. I have pancreatic cancer so special dietary requirements told no problem just tell us how we can help. Always talk to staff and enjoy the lovely pub

My child was kicked & bitten, & bullied by 5 other children, whose parents were not supervising them. The staff at the pub who I complained to asked me to leave. Either they were personal friends with the family of bullies, or favoured the family because they spent so much money on alcohol. I did not feel safe with my child. I will not be going back there. Which is a shame as my son was really getting on with the landlords 6 year old, who was also being bullied by the pack of feral kids!

Had an amazing Sunday lunch for my parents 70th birthday, Staff we’re welcoming and went above and beyond to make our experience a good one. Great food, great location and amazing staff!! Would definitely recommend.

After seeing a few negative reviews given last year, I felt I should give a well earned positive review of this wonderful pub. The management have tried their best to keep the place going, and to maintain the high standards in very trying circumstances. I cannot fault anything - the food is always excellent, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is fantastic. Family and dog friendly too. Well worth a visit for a country pub feel in a city. Booking recommended if you are planning to eat!

Came to The Pant Mawr for our three course Christmas meal this year lovely pub, great atmosphere and was really impressed with the meal would definitely recommmend as they are welcoming and our server don't know his name was so smiley and helpful will definitely be back next year

Best pub in Cardiff....well its up there for me anyway. Fantastic food, fantastic staff!! The decorations are up so as you can imagine with that and the open log fire we didn't want to leave. Went for a walk with friends, came into a lovely warm friendly atmosphere and had the best food! Thank you

Had a fantastic meal at the Pantmawr with family. Everything we had was lovely. The chicken strips for starters were very tasty, then two Stilton beef briskets, a beef & Guinness pie and fish and chips were great. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and fudge cake. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good value lovely food.

We hadn’t been to the Pantmawr Inn for sometime due to travel restrictions from Ireland so we were delighted to see that it is now even better than ever. There are many more seating options, from the usual pub/restaurant area to a bright conservatory and marquee. The menu has a wide selection of options, the food was delicious, and the service friendly and attentive.

Great local pub, family friendly with a huge beer garden and loads of outside space. Decent pint too

Booked a table to celebrate my sons GCSE results. We were told that certain products were not available due to delivery not turning up yet. That’s fine but we did come for what we were told was the best fish and chips in Cardiff. Lunch time menu was very limited and several of the items were unavailable in the end. We were told no chicken, no ham, no baguettes. but they did have hake. So we ordered the fish and chips (which we were looking forward to) 10 mins later one of the bar staff said that the hake wouldn’t be defrosted in time for us to have it …. Yummy frozen fish… so we ordered burgers instead (which were absolutely lovely with home cooked chips) we were told there would be a 30min wait, yep that’s great. An hour and 10 minutes and our food was delivered …. Now I understand there are hospitality issues with Covid etc but there was 2 other tables eating the same time and several bar staff. I have been a landlady myself so am fully aware of the issues that can happen. But rule number one is communicate with your customer. Waitress came out and didn’t stop apologising to the table behind us and they waited half the time we did ! And please no sarky management response something clearly went wrong today and no apology was made not even a round of drinks to apologise. Very poor sorry Oh and a waffle menu for dessert ? I ended up driving to the supermarket on the way home to get something decent ‍♀️

We visited this establishment on Sunday 8th August. We were greeted pleasantly and were taken to our pre-booked table. There was a choice of 1 course roast dinner for £10 or a 2 course dinner with desert for £13. The food arrived within 10-15 mins of ordering and it was served hot and fresh with veg on a separate dish. I have had quite a few roast dinners out and I have to say this is one of the best, I’d happily pay £10 for the quality roast dinner I had here again and again. Absolutely brilliant, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back on a Sunday afternoon

Firstly, service was very slow and customer service not the best. Our waitress was actually quite rude at times! I do understand that it’s been a difficult year and perhaps they are new members of staff so can let this go. However, we pre ordered meals for a special birthday occasion with the family. More than half of these meals were wrong. Then the waitress read out the list (that they had written themselves) and insinuated that we were wrong. We had our order with us on our phone in black & white and we definitely weren’t wrong! There was a vague apology but nothing more and we ate the meals we had been given. Food was very nice and good portions. We would love to return but there are definitely things that need improvement.

Our son lives in Whitchurch and a trip to The Pantmawr was always something to look forward to.We have just had dinner there and what has happened? Not an adult in sight. Only two people behind the bar with, perfectly understandable, table service. But why only 2 people.Now a very limited menu and even then the Lasagne was not available and this was at 6 pm.No pineapple on the gammon which admittedly I did not say anything about but by this time we were tired of wondering what had happened to, what was, such a great boozer.The online reviews are dated 2015. Why so old unless the pub, like the reviews, is stuck in the past.Really disappointed and WE WILL NOT BE BACK.

Drove into car park looked at all the scruffy mess in the car park lots of chairs and rubbish made a bad impression . on us e walked up to the garden outside was so scruffy. We decided not to go in. There was rope holding things together. Not a good curbside impression so we left.

We visited on fathers day, hoping for a nice family meal out. We waited 20 minutes for menus to be printed and then we were presented with a board showing the options for roast. On asking if there was any other choice or just roast we were told that was it. The turkey was dry and the gravy was lumpy. On leaving we noticed other tables had sausages and burgers and at that point we were told there was a kids menu available. Considering our party had 4 children in you would of thought they would of told us this earlier especially as we had asked about other options.

We were hoping for a special father's day lunch with friends at a family friendly pub.Upon arrival our table wasn't ready. We then waited in excess of 20 minutes for a menu due to an issue with the printer. We were then told we could have beef, turkey or nut roasts. We enquired if there were any option aside from roast for us or the children and were advised that only roasts are available on a Sunday. The food was OK, and portions were certainly large but the gravy was lumpy and turkey was dry. Upon leaving we noted that other families had burgers, sausages etc. My husband returned to enquire and was advised that there is indeed a children's menu with a range of alternatives that our children would have preferred available at the bar-my husband had asked about menus at the bar upon arrival!They were experiencing staff shortages and the manager was friendly and ensured our meals came promptly but despite this we wouldn't return.

We've always liked the Pantmawr but our recent visit was awful. Sticky table to start with - asked for it to be cleaned which fell on deaf ears. It was a busy Friday afternoon with only two staff serving behind the bar and waiting tables. Food arrived after around 30 minutes. Jacket potato with tuna and mayo - no butter on the jacket potato and had to use 5 sachets of mayo! Two burgers were cremated and one hunter's chicken was average. Waited 20 minutes for our desserts by which time another member of staff had appeared.

The pub is well suited to locals who will obviously put up with any poor service, because it's an oasis of local.You have an isolated local pub with lots of beers,tv screens, young waitresses whose IQ is do low,they can't find a wine bottle with a wooden spoon sticking out of it with a number written on it.Ordered two burgers.Burgers arrived.Pink inside.Queried this,and sent food back.Same food reappeared one minute later,told by Manageress, The burger meat is red, because of the red dye,the Wholesalers put in it.Red dye in food???Chips green and black.I stopped my daughter, grandson from eating them..Can't be bothered going on about how bad this place is.Avoid at all cost.

Lovely old pub which has had housing built all around it over the years, so there is no passing trade. Big car park, plenty of outdoor tables, friendly and efficient staff. Whats not to like?

Went with my husband for a meal. Large portion sizes, very tasty chips. Excellent table service. A very enjoyable meal, we sat in the conservatory. Husband had the fish and chips, a large piece of fish, I had the gammon steak with egg, the gammon nearly covered the plate. Felt very safe there.

Was down from Scotland working so it was nice to find a friendly pub with a great pint.

Reservé una comida con mi esposo y llegué a un pub caótico y después de hacer cola en el bar para tomar una bebida, lo cual se esperaba, finalmente nos mostraron nuestro asiento y yo estaba de espaldas a una puerta abierta, después de 20 minutos pedimos que nos cambiaran y nos sentamos arriba, donde las mesas vacías quedaron con platos sucios y vasos vacíos. Después de esperar una hora, trajeron una de nuestras guarniciones, 20 minutos después llegaron nuestros bistecs bien hechos, así que le pedí a la camarera que esperara mientras cortaba los bistecs y estaban ensangrentados, no bien cocidos, ella tomó el bistec y en este momento. Pedí hablar con un gerente y apareció un supervisor, admitió que habían reservado de más y la cocina no podía hacer frente y se ofreció a quitar 2 bebidas de la cuenta, finalmente nuestra comida regresó, los mismos bistecs, después de que la camarera se había ido Corté mi bistec y todavía estaba ensangrentado y lleno de grasa y el de mi esposo estaba cocido en los bordes, ahora me moría de hambre, así que comí mis papas fritas, mi esposo son los bordes de su bistec y bajé las escaleras para cazar a otro miembro del personal y le preguntó a Jess, la supervisora, podía venir a verme, lo cual hizo, nos ofreció otra comida ya que en ese momento solo quería irme y después de esperar 1 hora y 20 minutos no estaba preparada para esperar más, así que pedí reembolso para que le digan que la política de la empresa es si toca su la comida no tiene derecho a un reembolso y ella dijo que yo solo pagué la mitad del precio y el gobierno estaba pagando la otra mitad. . . estaba escuchando esto correctamente? ? Pedí hablar con un gerente para que me dijera que estaba de vacaciones, así que le envié un mensaje al propietario directamente por messenger, se leyó el mensaje de btge pero no hubo respuesta en absoluto. Sin niños, así que otra noche de cita.Es la primera vez que visitamos el Pantmawr y pensamos que podríamos aprovechar el plan del gobierno a mitad de precio.El pub en sí es bastante agradable, hay un jardín de bastante tamaño con una zona de juegos para niños. No se siente como si estuvieras en medio de un área de viviendas.El menú de comida se redujo y hay restricciones sobre el distanciamiento social, pero esto es como se esperaba y está bien implementado.Mi esposa tenía un delicioso pollo Balti y yo tenía un buen chuletón de bistec.Todo incluido, ¡una buena cena y la mitad de precio lo hicieron aún mejor! ???

We had such a lovely meal here tonight! Great atmosphere in the garden, fab service from a lovely waitress! All 6 of our meals were faultless, definitely returning! Recommend the burger it was so tasty and juicy!

This tucked away pub served a a great Sunday lunch in both quality and value for money.Lost a star only because it is obviously a regulars pub and this will not be to everyone taste.

Have taken to eating here regularly. The week day offers make it very reasonable to have midweek break from cooking at home. This week a friend and I had 2 rump steaks and chips for £17, tasty and well cooked.

Fuimos para el almuerzo del domingo como parte de una celebración de cumpleaños. El ambiente del Inn es excelente, especialmente porque es uno de los pocos pubs de estilo tradicional que quedan en Cardiff.Asistieron unas 20 personas y, para crédito del Inn, la comida llegó rápidamente, de modo que nadie esperaba comida mientras que otros casi habían terminado la suya. Hadn't been for a long time but visited in the recommendation of friends and we weren't disappointed. We opted for the vegetarian curry and a burger, both of which were very good. There is also a good selection of draught ales and lagers on offer. The Pantmawr is an unpretentious, typical Welsh pub. Dog and family friendly. We'll be back.

If you are looking for unpretentious food, well cooked ,at a reasonable price ,in the “evening” I would recommend this place

Tried here for the first time and it was okish, lager good, and great if you want to watch football as lots of T.V’s, just not very friendly and almost felt in people’s way. Got to be a regular here I think.

Busqué en Google este pub desde que me hospedé en los alrededores y quise el ambiente local de pub. No me decepcionó Ambiente animado para un jueves por la noche en el bar y en el pub pub. Fish & chips fue ordenado en el bar y entregado rápidamente y caliente. Muy sabroso, especialmente las patatas fritas que eran increíbles! Ambiente de pub local amigable que llegó a la marca en lo que a mí respecta.

Comida realmente deliciosa. Fuimos en la oportunidad fuera el lunes pasado familia de cuatro. Casi volvimos a caminar, ya que la decoración es un poco vieja y cansada, pero no se puede molestar en conducir a otro pub. Me alegro de no haberlo hecho. Agrietar comida sabrosa, pan de ajo con queso era encantador. Tenía hamburguesas, pollo y pescado toda buena comida de pub de calidad. Todos tuvieron afters y lo disfrutaron también. Bill llegó a 52 para cuatro de nosotros con bebidas como ofertas. Volveremos de nuevo para ver si era un solo pero estaba impresionado de juego limpio.

Went to the Pantmawr after a stroll up Caerphilly Mountain, and the Black Cock having no tables left. This pub was recommended by a chap drinking at the Black Cock, so we gave it a go. Tucked away in amongst houses, we’d never have happened across it but was easy enough to find.

Como un cliente habitual contento aquí en The Pantmawr Inn, me siento muy convencido de nuestra decepción en la comida de Navidad. Habiendo reservado, pagado el depósito y especificamos nuestra mesa de elección en el bar principal, llegamos a ver nuestra mesa en el cómodo scruffy. Esto cambió después de que se pidió a algunas personas pobres que desalojaran su mesa. Luego esperamos 45 minutos para que alguien nos reconozca que estamos allí y traemos nuestro primer curso. Nuestros platos terminados entre cada uno de los 3 platos no se recolectaron a menos que fuera a pedir que se despejara la mesa. Nos llevó 3 horas completar una comida sencilla de 3 platos. El curso de la calle 1 de congelar en frío la caballa ahumada con una hoja de lechuga vino sin pan y cuando le pregunté a la joven, ella solo respondió que no había pan servido! Plato principal caliente y sabroso. El servicio fue grave debido a que no había suficiente personal para una concurrida noche previa a la Navidad. La gente en otras mesas tampoco está contenta. Por favor, si promociona las noches de tarifas de Chritmas, atienda a ellos y mantenga su buen nivel habitual.

Llamado en la posibilidad de una comida temprana no hay problema con los asientos, pero lamentablemente el pequeño restaurante tenía constructores en el piso de arriba y el restaurante era muy ruidoso, el lugar estaba un poco en mal estado y podría haberlo hecho con un poco de renovación, pero en general La comida estaba bien preparada y el servicio amable y rápido.

Sunday lunch at Pantmawr Inn was great. Great atmosphere in a cosy pub. We arrived at the end of lunch service and the dinner was still to a great standard. Beef was excellent, crispy roasties and generous portions of tasty veg! ...great view of the footy on loads of TVs as well! :)

Visitded aquí para la comida de cumpleaños (familia de 4 + 1). Agradable comedor separado del bar principal que estaba lleno de fanáticos del rugby. Rugby también se muestra en el comedor. Comidas decentes a un precio razonable del menú principal (2 pollo, pato, hígado y tocino) + 1 de especialidades (venado) con entrantes de pan de ajo compartidos, botella de vino, coca cola. No hay postres como pastel de chocolate esperando en casa, sin embargo, volveremos a probar!

My son and I stopped here for a mid week lunch sat outside in the lovely beer garden the food was great and extremely reasonable and the staff were all very nice will definitely return 👍

Visited for lunch since the website states it’s a sister pub of the Black Cock Inn which is lovely and does great food. Ordered the ‘chicken club’ ciabatta which turned out to be chicken and bacon mayo (so why wasn’t it stated as such on the menu?). It was so so.

On a days leave and even solo I enjoy this pub. Hidden gem near whitchurch golf club. Great beer garden with grassy area adjacent for kids. Very reasonably priced selection of bar meals and snacks. Gets very popular when sun is out so get there early or you may struggle for a table in the beer garden. Definitely worth a visit.

A large group of friends booked for lunch at the Pantmawr Inn on a Saturday. We were seated in the "snug", the side section, and had it all to ourselves so there was plenty of room for us to arrange tables to fit us a bit better and for the kids to mill about.

Visited this pub with my wife and we were pleased to see old fashioned games like scrabble and backgammon being played. The pub had a great atmosphere and the staff very friendly. There was a good choice of beers and although we did not eat there the meals looked excellent. Would go there again very homely.

Visited the pub for a family dinner on fathers day. The menu was fabulous and the meal to follow did not disappoint. All 4 of us ordered 4 different dishes which were all excellent. Would recommend the Pantmawr Inn to families and couples alike. First class.
