We stopped by for a quick meal, but immediately got off on a bad start; our waiter forgot our order (which we'd already waited for 15+ minutes). They gave us a seaweed salad and spare tea to compensate, which improved things, and our food came shortly after we repeated our order. Whilst there is nothing the staff could have done about it... It's a shame the stuck up family sat to the side of us seemed intent on complaining about everything for no obvious reason. The service can be improved, they made a mistake with my order and said "keep it!" which is a bit annoying when it is something you don't like. The sashimi looked worryingly old and we got too scared of food poisoning to eat them. The makis totally uninspiring and low quality.A waste of money!

My husband, 5 year old daughter and I enjoyed a sushi/sashimi platter, the Harrod's specialty roll and the tuna/hamachi tartare. The seafood was delicious! If you are nervous about trying Japanese food then you can't go wrong in Harrods - but you will pay the price - literally. There are plenty of staff with intercoms to guide you and the chefs are on display preparing your food. However the seating is in the middle of a busy shopping area which is convenient but not secluded. The Rock Shrimp tempura was succulent and the Harrods Special sushi perfect with brilliant ginger and a type of mustard sauce. The edamame beans were served in rock salt and also worth having to clear your tastebuds after the soy sauce. However the bill for 2 with non-alcoholic drinks was almost £75. This is not good value although it could be worse as the person next to me was tucking onto sushi with dry ice flowing over the plate. When queried I was informed that the price of this single course was over £90! I really think that the cost here is too excessive particularly as we were still hungry at the end of the meal. I can recommend the macaroons in the confectionary department which is right next to Pan Chai. Due to the cost I have given this restaurant only 3 stars.

But if you are a Sushi and Sashimi lover, you cannot afford to eat anywhere: So here is a place where your palate will savour it's food. The sushi and sashimi variety are immense and quality is uncompromised. The staff is friendly, the queue is quite quick as people are usually just stopping for the bite and then shopping, and the cooks very interactive (I was offered to taste a fish I did not know: the yellow tail fish). The seating is convenient though a bit narrow. The choice in the drinks is also amazing, from water to champagne and everything in the middle. You can either eat in 30 minutes or an hour, it is your choice. But obviously everuthing has a price, and this one is quite expensive, we had this lunch on the 4th of January, 2015, we were 4 persons and it cost us around 380£ with 4 glasses of champagne and a full menu with sushis and sashimis. We came here simply for the experience of having "done" the sushi bar in Harrods food hall. First indication of a lack of autheticity was that they did not have any Japanese beer! A must for a sushi bar in my opinion. They had Tiger Beer from Singapore and I think the experience was much more of an ASEAN experience than a Japanese one. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, just not what I was expecting. The food was very good as you'd expect and the prices were very much Harrods prices. Interesting to sit and have a snack but as a Japanese restaurant it didnt live up to my expectations. Nothing wrong with the food or service just all a bit odd.

It's Harrods, so I expect to pay for the 'privilege' of being there. But £140 for three portions of sashimi, a dish of tempura and a couple of beers is really taking the mickey. It's not even a particularly nice place to sit with the very low stools and high bar in front if you. The service tries reasonably hard, but we just found they kept bumping us out of the way as they clumsily tried to put things down.Disappointed overall, although the small amount of food we had was nice enough. There are far better places to go for a plate of sashimi that will cost a hell of a lot less.

I knew Japanese food was expensive in London but this takes it to a whole new level. This is robbery, pure and simple. The sashimi is sliced so thinly that despite giving you 2 or 3 pieces the actual portion served equates really to one slice or at best, one and a half served at most good Japanese restaurants. I agree that certain kinds of fish need to be sliced thinly and while others should be done more generously to give texture. Here, you just get the feeling they are out to gouge you. Food texrure and quality ckukdnt be further fron their minds. Certain items were so cold that I thought I was gnawing on an ice cube. An awful experience that must not be relived. Its a shame really that the new Harrods are doing this. Since the take over from al Fayed, one gets the sense that if things aren't generating enough £ per sq. Ft., it's out!

My dad took me here for a nice treat at lunch and we found excellent fresh sushi and very professional staff at this sushi bar. We were seated very quickly and the menu explained to us.We ordered tuna, salmon, yellow tail, squid, monk fish and scallops along with Miso Soup (huge). This was my first experience of salmon roe and caviar also :) We could see the sushi chefs making the sushi infront of us which is interesting to watch! The sushi platters were served with a cup of dry ice which adds to the spectacle.I would not hesitate in returning to this sushi bar!

The appearance is getting worse, the fish slices are becoming simply transparent. Still edible, but beginning to look like a joke tbh

We were there last week for lunch. As we waited for our food to arrive. We’ve heard loud yelling from the kitchen that sounded like someone lost a temper and throwing a huge tantrum. The only server on the floor acted like nothing was happening or that’s just usual occurrence. It made us super uncomfortable. Our food arrived. I had a sushi bowl. But the rice was waaaay undercooked. I have told the server about the rice but she acted like my claim wasn’t the first one and told me that she will tell the chef. My overall experience was not good at all. I will never go back there. We are expecting a brand new Japanese restaurant in Richmond. Matsuba needs to improve in order for them to survive in Richmond. Very disappointed!
