Pairings Wine Bar in York

We booked here on a personal recommendation for our weekend away in York and definitely weren't disappointed. We shared the Deli board for 2. I'm really not a wine drinker but I wasn't made to feel silly for not liking wine, or subjected to "oh but you MUST try this one I KNOW you're going to like it" as I sometimes am in other places! The deli board was gorgeous and great quality, and we were stuffed afterwards. The service was really friendly and prompt. We were sat at a little bench/bar seat, and my only criticism is that I didn't feel this was really big enough for the 4 people that were sat at it, we felt squished in by the other party of 2. Otherwise a fab experience, maybe our favourite food from the whole weekend!

Had this booked for quite some time so were really looking forward to eating here. Arrived early and the table wasn't ready so were parked at the bar, which is fine, except we were offered water, which never arrived and weren't offered anything else to drink whilst waiting. When the table was eventually ready we waited a good 25 minutes to place an order for food and eventually had to ask for service. The meats were really nice, especially the pork and beef and the accompanying bread and oils were good. Also had a panna cotta for dessert which was lovely. Overall the food was good but we felt the service was a let down and spoiled the experience.

We did the food and wine pairing experience for my dads 50th birthday and it was excellent. Our sommelier, Connor, was exceptional - friendly, engaging and so knowledgable, he really made the experience fantastic. The bar itself is lovely and all of the staff made my dads day special. The food and wine courses themselves were delicious, perfectly paired and perfectly portioned too. It was an amazing all round experience. Thank you so much to all of the staff. Couldn’t recommend this place more.

Beautiful wine selection, coupled with gorgeous cheeses on the centre of York. We had a lovely, lazy lunch with Pairings. Ordering four types of wine, cheese, a pork pie and dessert. The atmosphere is buzzy and lovely. Staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. I’d recommend asking for a table near the front of the restaurant as the back is windowless and without natural light.

Food and drink choices were great. The staff are helpful to anyone, whether you know about wine or not. Will revisit whenever I’m back in York. Recommend booking ahead.

I have been there twice and I will return more. The boards seem like the best option to buy, and you can also make your own personalized one. All the cheeses are delicious, and they are served with an exquisite sweet chili jam. They also have a wide variety of cocktails and wines.

We enjoyed a special birthday treat. Enjoyed a bottle of wine with a sharing Deli-Board. Service was impeccable with a superb lunchtime atmosphere. Thank You.

My husband and I originally planned one drink at Pairings, but the longer we stayed, the more we were impressed by the stunning platters and then stayed on for some gorgeous nibbles. What a lovely cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and great service. A visit to Pairings is a must when visiting York.

Me and my boyfriend came here on a night away celebrating our anniversary and we’re not exaggerating when we both say this is probably the nicest place we’ve ever eaten. Food, presentation, service, atmosphere, wines, everything was just perfect, nothing was too much for the staff and we’d never be able to find anything to complain about even if we tried. I’m a vegetarian and went with a cheese lovers flight; upon finding out some of the cheeses weren’t suitable for my dietary needs, the staff were more than happy to find something more suitable and even pair different wines for the substitutions. A flat white martini was suggested to me as dessert as I wasn’t sure what to go with; I’d never heard of it and it was so lovely, and we even had a friendly matter while paying the bill (and throughout our dining experience really) and got great recommendations on where to go next. I would highly, highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a special dining experience! Prices seem a little high upon first glance but very worth it in the end. Can’t give enough praise.

Pairings is a great wine bar. The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. The wine flights are great (and good value) and the food boards are delicious!

I was very impressed by the food, the beautiful atmosphere, coziness and the vibe. Such a perfect place to have a drink with a great platter with a variety of cheeses, ham, olives, crackers, etc. As a suggestion, I would have loved the Yorkshire pudding and the bread sort of warm.

Extremely unacommodating and discriminating

An amazing way to end an evening with wine flights and well prepared deli bored. Staff were super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the restaurants offer. I think one of the meats we were served wasn't what we had picked, but minor compared to everything else that was spot on.

An excellent restaurant and wine bar, even better than our previous visit. The food is exquisitely presented and the suggested wine pairings are excellent. The cocktails are very nice too! It seems to have become much more popular, so you'll need to book.

We were given a Pairings premium experience as a gift for my wife and myself. We didn’t know what to expect but found it to be a unique and most enjoyable experience. The choices about what we were given to eat were made by Pairings and we were pleasantly surprised and throughly enjoyed everything. some wonderful food and wine varieties. we even bought a bottle of the Champagne and the desert wine at the end of the meal to take home. The “cherry on the cake” and the part that makes this really engaging is having your own sommelier explain everything about the food and wine choices you get to enjoy. I highly recommend Pairings to anyone who enjoys food and wine and likes to know more about what they are eating and drinking and may want to take home a bottle or two of what they really enjoy after their visit. I am already planning my next visit. Relaxed, unique and great fun. Top marks.

We booked pairings in advance and what a treat it was. The service was quick and our waiter was full of knowledge and gave excellent recommendations if you aren’t sure. The food and wine were both incredible, we got to try some really unusual wines so if you’re in York this is a must visit.

We had an excellent time on the Food and Drink Experience with Abbie last weekend. The selection of wine was perfect for us as we don’t know a lot about it. Abbie was very informative and friendly. We’d very gladly go back when we are next in York.

This is one of the best, if not the best, wine bars in Yorkshire. We had a premium wine tasting which was sublime! We also ordered the Pairings deli board which was fantastic. After the tasting we were offered a seat at the bar and ordered another bottle. Abbie was fantastic, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Can’t wait to go back again!

I visited with 3 friends on a weekend trip to York and we had the premium wine tasting experience. We really enjoyed trying some unusual good quality wines with matched food along with hearing all about the wines from our excellent sommelier Abbie. She was friendly and knowledgeable. It was busy so I’d recommend booking in advance like we did. Our only disappointment was not being able to finish our desert, which was amazing, as we were so full! Would definitely go again

Can't recommend this place enough. Not our usual place to eat but so glad we tried here after it was recommended. We chose the Deli Platter with 3 meats and cheeses and also a white wine Flight and a Rose wine Flight (each was 3 x 75ml) Our server was so helpful in describing what we'd ordered and nobody rushed us at all. Will definitely visit here when we stay in York again.

The food and wine here are absolutely great, and with good options and labelling for allergies and dietary needs, including gluten free bread and crackers and vegan cheese options. Try the manchego cheese; it has a lovely delicate taste and texture. The hummus is excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, and were happy to make changes to cater to food intolerances and to make recommendations. Nice ambience with pleasant music, though it gets a bit loud later in the evening if you're neurodiverse with sound sensitivity; recommend bringing earplugs for that. The decor is tasteful throughout with good attention to detail. I got a "Well done" from my partner for finding it as a place for an anniversary dinner, so I'd call that a result!

Lovely cosy spot with a great wine selection and incredibly friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff. We couldn't stay too long but there was a fantastic selection of wines to try and order in flights/small selection and the staff would even host a quick tasting for you at your table if you book ahead of time. Would highly recommend.

Went last night with my sister to celebrate her birthday with the Premium Food and Wine Experience.Ellie who hosted us was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable and friendly,the experience was fun and informal but also professional.The food and wine was absolutely delicious,the Iberian ham and crumble dessert was particularly outstanding.

We were lucky enough to get a walk-in table on a Saturday night, after being advised it may not be possible. What an exceptional time we had ... ambience, vibe, atmosphere... all those descriptives ... the food was excellent, we had sharing platters, and the serving staff were attentive, knowledgeable, polite and friendly ... I would highly recommend this as an eatery and venue in which to enjoy both quality food and service.

Didn’t want standard big chain mass produced food, this place was off the chart excellent. We had a selection of fish paired with wine which we shared, and a truffle and cheddar cheese dish. The varying tastes were a pleasure to the senses, a mini party on my tongue. Would definitely recommend and return. Staff were equally superb, attentive and not pushy. Loved it!

They did not have one of the cheeses we ordered on our platter and our host (Connor) substituted this with a cheese he thought would be enjoyed, he was not wrong! He was a great host and couldn’t have been more helpful. He answered all our questions on both the menu and the wine. He recommended a nice wine to finish our great evening.
