The best fish and chips we have ever had a lovely sit down meal . We will be back again soon thank you this was all freshly cooked to order

Great place for fish and chips all cooked fresh. Plenty on your plate. Family place .a nice clean bright restaurant with toilet room. Friday night is a very busy takeway but then that is a good sign is it not? Large fish is LARGE and so many chips. No messing Here. Wine is also available and beer.They also do BBQ ribs ,chicken and kebabs,burgers and so on. Fresh salad. Ice cold drinks .Expect a queue on Fridays this place is buzzing. The staff are friendly and the waitress helpful and kind. Highchairs are available. Many people are serving so it is never too long to wait, we have been coming here for years.

Extremely disappointed. We used to visit to eat in and the food was always excellent. Haven't visited for a while so decided to go back today. We ended up walking out ...... For cod and chips it was £16! And that's without a drink or anything else. The restaurant also smells terribly of damp and mould. On the plus side, It has been redecorated to a nice standard.

This used to be a go to chippy for me, portion size was small and unfortunately the quality of food has gone since I last used them, bAtter was crispy but dry as was the saveloy, chips weren’t there best either

Brought chicken chip scampi chips and portion of chips scampi bit into fat hard all chips have been reheated our left for while hard and tasted of dirty fat spent £22.50 and had to through all in bin chicken was only eatable thing waste of money never again

This Resturant is very clean and spotless all the the toilets are clean I would have no problem eating food there I was there for a service of gas

Won't be going back. We used to live in Braintree and this was our go to Friday night Fish and chips takeaway. Went back yesterday as our local Chip van is getting a little expensive and the potion size is slipping. But wish we had not bothered travel the 12 mile round trip. The fish was a good size, but the chips potion had got a lot smaller. But that is where the prize stops. The fish was overcooked Dry and chewy and the Chips were under cooked and did not taste very nice.they had all stuc=k together by the time we got home. In my opinion this Takeaway has gone down hill since Covid a lot like many other takeaways and restaurants. Sorry but not worth the money or the time for a good Takeaway.

The best fish & chips in Braintree! No contest. I've been using this chip shop for years, both as an individual & with my family. Food is always fresh & full of flavor, staff are friendly & welcoming whenever I visit. If you're struggling to choose a local chippy, Oysters is always a must!

We went at lunchtime when the takeaway and restaurant were very busy. We found a table and the friendly young man came and cleared and disinfected the table. He took our order and quickly brought our coffees. The food took a bit longer but it was cooked to order and the staff were all working very hard to keep up with the demand. We had the daily special which was lovely. For £11.50 you can have cod or rock with the choice of mushy peas, bread and butter or salad with tea or coffee. Couldn’t fault it, will definitely go again when in Braintree.

You won’t find better fish and chips anywhere in the country. The all day special is fantastic value and arrives at the table crispy and piping hot. I added a sausage in batter to mine and really struggled to get through it all. Great takeaway and even better to eat in. The Cod is beautiful and the ribs are something else.

Did not enjoy the service. The staff made us wait too long to place an order even though there were hardly any other customers. The staff were friendly and attentive afterwards. Hugely overpriced particularly in the restaurant. £12 for Scampi, chips and one other item e.g mushy peas. Unappetising partly peeled chips. The fish we had was okay.

This is the place my wife and I go to whenever we want fish and chips. They've just refurbished the restaurant area (which we use occasionally). The food is cooked fresh and has always been extremely good - and also good value.

Hello there , now I work all over the country and eat at chip shops regularly. This is the best ! The staff and service, the value for money and finally and most importantly the food is all 5 star ⭐️ They are so welcoming and helpful it is amazing 🤩 I love them 👍

Ordered fish and chips from here last night as my kids and I fancied a treat. Wow fantastic delivery, was here in time, very nice driver with mask and gloves left his delivery bag open on the step stood away and i just had to pull the carrier bag out by the handles. All very safe. As for the fish and chips, fabulous, so good I didnt leave any for my poor cats, luckly my son did. Thank you so much for making our night happier in this very depressing time. Will definitely use them again.

I always normally come to the shop but today I used deliveroo and the service was easy to use and my delivery came quicker than expected and the fish & chips we brilliant as always.well done guys keep up the great work.

Ordered meal through Deliveroo no problem there, however, the Ribs we ordered were extremely salty!, so much so we threw them away, not the usual standard we have come to expect from Oysters!!.

I have ordered by Deliveroo and in the shop as well. Consistently perfect each time, always freshly made, super friendly team.

Usually go for a pint and a curry but decided to have fish n chips for a change. This is probably the best chip shop in Braintree with a restaurant as well. Always get my takeaway fish n chips from here so knew they would be good. I had haddock with my 2 friends ordering cod. The food was excellent with lovely crisp batter. Washed down with cans of lager. Whilst the restaurant is not fancy it t was clean and welcoming. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets. Very good value for not a lot of money and I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Very impressed with this chip shop. Big fresh fish, light crispy batter, proper chips and good value. Busy on a Monday night, which tells you what need to know.

Dropped in for a quick eat-in lunch in mid-January. Friendly staff, and piping hot haddock and chips, both of which were absolutely delicious. This place has completely restored my faith in fish and chips in the South-East of the UK. Highly recommended, and very reasonably priced - £7.25 for haddock, chips and mushy peas, eat-in.

Fancied fish and chips on the way home from Suffolk to Essex, quick look on trip advisor and wow! What a lovely little family run business. Best chippy in Braintree. Lovely as it has a sit down cafe style area attached. Staff are very friendly and the food is excellent and well priced.

This has to be the best chip pie in Essex.freshly cooked food .nice & hot .staff friendly .and very very clean premises .would recommend to anyone.have tried other chippies in Braintree .but none come no where near oysters

I have had take out and also eaten in the service has been good it all depends on what you are after. When I ate the there were generous but that was a while ago service polite and courteous food was not overly expensive A good central location but may be tricky parking unless you use the local supermarket carpark

Me and my partner attended Friday 13th September around 7.30pm. It was full but we managed to get a table after a five minute wait. We had plaice and chips twice , one tin of Diet Coke and one gherkin and onion. Fantastic meal and fantastic price of £20. We will be back.

The best chippie in town! Take-away queues are always out the door and round the corner. The restaurant area is spic-and-span, recently redecorated, and the staff always pleasant and helpful. We used to eat here regularly, but haven't been for a few years - it's good to see the standards as good as ever. The menu is wide, not only fish but other staples too, like chicken, kebabs, saveloys etc, and the prices very reasonable. They have introduced an 'all-day special' of cod or rock with mushy peas, chips and a tea or coffee and at an excellent price; no stinting on portion sizes - we couldn't finish all the chips! It's licensed too, so you can enjoy beer or wine with your meal. It's worth the drive to get there!

We have been getting our fix of fish/sausage/kebab/scampi and chips for many years and they’ve never disappointed. Even when I was a small child I remember eating in the restaurant with my grandparents after shopping at Sainsbury’s many moons ago!

Oysters is consistently good, the service is quick and efficient, tasty and fresh fish and chips, reasonably priced. We are yet to have a bad experience here, long may it continue 👍

Had a meal on May 23rd, as I have been suffering loss of appetite during treatment it was a delight to enjoy a meal out and be able to eat it all, such good fish and chips and the young man serving was so polite and attentive, will be back. Thank you.

We have been to Oysters a handful of times now and the quality of food and service is always fantastic. Very clean and comfortable when in the restaurant, the staff are always genuinely pleased to see you and make sure you have everything you need without being intrusive. The portion sizes are generous, which means I eat slowly and the food stays really hot even by the time I finish!

Visited Oysters during a trip to family in Essex. The staff were very accommodating especially as there were three adults and 7 children. The food was fresh and delicious and the portions were generous. Lots of menu choice.

We read reviews and had to try .. it was brilliant top food top service we dont live in town but will go out of our way to visit again.

I never imagined I would be reviewing a fish and chip shop but after my recent experience I decided it was worthy. Usually we buy takeaway fish and chips from our local chippy in Silver End but recent experiences have been poor. A friend recommended Oysters after a recent visit so we decided to give it a try. We tried the haddock and the rock eel and both meals were really good. Lovely crispy batter on the fish, not greasy at all. The chips were also really crispy. Both meals served with mushy peas. This was the best fish and chips I have tasted in a very long while and not that much more expensive than our usual takeaway. The owners were also very nice and friendly people. We will be back. Well done Oysters for a great experience.

Best chip shop in town. Fresh chips cooked to order, unlike many chip shops in town which give you the one sitting there for a while. Food always very tasty. Keep up the fresh cooking 😊

Popped in on a Friday lunchtime and fortunately there was a table available. We'd not been here before so were going solely on previous reviews on Tripadvisor. We were really pleased with the lunch we had - 3 x haddock and chips. Fresh, hot and tasty - we couldn't fault it. Will certainly try again for takeaway fish and chips.

Called in at the restaurant with my daughter last night on the spur of the moment and we found the fish and chips to be delicious; crispy golden batter, soft white fish, lovely chips - all piping hot, bread & butter, cup of tea/coffee all for the sum of £7 each - great value for money. The service was excellent, our waiter was very personable, friendly and efficient. We have used Oysters before for a fish & chip takeaway but this was our first experience of using the restaurant, it was great? Well done !!

Visited on a Thursday night for pie and chips takeaway. As always with Oysters food was excellent with massive portion of chips. Staff always friendly. Very reasonably priced. Will return.

Went to Oysters last night for our son's 14th birthday (his choice). We were greeted into the restaurant area with smiles and they wished him Happy Birthday too. These guys make you feel like you are their only customer, even though they were very busy. The food was piping hot, fresh and plenty of it too. The environment clean and tidy. Even though we sat in the restaurant, our clothes didn't smell of 'cooking' afterwards. You really get the feeling they care about your experience and can't do enough for you, without being intrusive. Thank you to all the Oysters team for making his/our evening enjoyable. We will see you again soon.

Had takeaway of pie and chips and as always excellent. The portion sizes for the chips are always very big and one portion is enough for two. Service is always good and fantastic value. Best fish and chips in Braintree.

Enjoyable meal for 4 of us. Perfectly cooked fish, (first time in ages have had a large plaice, most fish and chip outlets serve small plaice), and chips. Pleasant restaurant area, with equally pleasant and helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Been there today for lunch with my wife and boy and had a pleasant lunch. Just a few tables (they do takeaway) and pretty busy. Tried the sausage as a starter just because there were several people ordering it and it was ok but the fish and chips was great. Huge portions and very tasty. Had a beer and a couple of cokes plus the kid meal all just under £25. Thumbs up guys!

First visit after a recommendation from a local . Very good food and friendly service. Very accommodating with regards to wheelchairs. Were happy to provide a childrens portion for our mum as she is used to small meals. Food is freshly cooked and served with chips or salad which is a nice alternative. Restaurant is clean and the waiter was friendly and helpful.An all round good experience

First time visit and I was not disappointed. Family was treating us as they go often and raved about Oysters and turns out it's all true. The food is delicious and plentiful and if you eat in, you can reserve a table and have alcoholic and soft drinks too. I will definitely be back!!!

Easily the best fish and chip takeaway in Braintree. Generous chip portions, perfectly cooked cod, scampi and pukka pies. The Curry sauce is a bit iffy sometimes. There is always a queue, but not usually a long wait for food.

Although I live in a different town I visit Braintree quite a lot and each time I do I visit Oysters because the food is delicious and the staff are amazing. Would recommend them to everyone. Make sure you visit there when you visit Braintree

Ever since I can remember the best chippy in town. Great chips just way I like them and always lovely cod just as good.

Excellent fish and salad or chips or both. Not tried any of the other selection on the menu, chicken etc. Used to travel to Maldon to a shop there, but no more. Braintree have the best fish around for miles. The last time I had anything as good as this was in Cromer, Norfolk.Well done Oysters

This is fair best chip shop around, they have a restaurant to which is very good value and the portion size that you get are great. This is always my first chose they also do other types of food so it not just fish and chips. If you go you won't be disappointed.

Big portions , great Value open till 10pm nice take away arrived on a flight to stansted and really hungry as landed at 8pm at night. This place is just off the A12 and not far from the airport, easy to find and cheered me up after landing from holiday to get some good British grub....

Although I am clearly not a fish frying expert I believe what must set this chippy apart from others is the quality of the fish and potatoes together with expert frying. From what I have learnt the crispness of the batter on the fish is down to top quality frying fat.The chips are very good well cooked but not and hold their shape.Don’t have fish and chips every week but when we do this is well worth the longer trip.

What can I say he sausages look good and with good size potions. The fish was excellent cook and cook well and was the highlight. Would have give a 5 out of 5 but feel the chips could have been better and have tasted better this year but overall it was good

Oysters cannot be beaten in the Braintree area. It's the first we have sat in their restaurant. Service was quick and the food, again, impossible to beat in any way. Very fresh tasting fish and non-greasy chips in ridiculously large portions (that wasn't a complaint) love Oysters.

I have a takeaway fish and chip dinner every Friday and have done so for about a year now. I really want to write how terrible it is as that may cut down on the queues that stretch out the door! Good old English chippy - Never had a bad meal what more can you ask for?. Can get busy but it is worth the wait.

Returned to Oysters to pickup dinner. Have had takeaway from here before and was not disappointed and the same applies this visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful the food is good and the portions are huge. You only need 1 portion of chips for 2 people. If you fancy fish or pie and chips then go here it's the best in Braintree.

OK, it has been a year since I reviewed this Fish and Chip take-away/restaurant, so it needed a re-write,It hasn't changed, the best fish I have tasted in a take away. Always freshly cooked in clean oil and never greasy. Chips in gargantuan portions, again not greasy. The best fish and chips anywhere.I have never eaten in the restaurant but it looks extremely clean and the clients eating in there looked very happy.FANTASTIC

I find increasingly that you don't get good fish and chips in fish and chip shops. They are usually soggy and/or brown. I don't know if its because they use different oils now, or don't cook them as long or whatever. Therefore I would usually prefer to order fish and chips from a pub or somewhere like that.Anyway, popped in for fish and chips to take home on a Saturday lunchtime. The fish was really nice. Crispy batter and well cooked. The chips were OK. Really not great, but on a par or better than the norm from a chip shop.Food was prepared quickly. Would benefit from having more chips read. In fact they tend to be nicer and less greasy when left to sit for a few minutes.Overall the food was OK, not brilliant value. A score of 3.5 would be appropriate.

i am all for reviewing bad service , adequate service i never review and i dont seem to have many glowing reviews in me ,,,, until eating a fish and chip tea here !! the chips were just right the fish was amazing mushy peas and tartare sauce were all fab too , i would 100% recommend to everyone , service was great too , very informal setting but delicious food , we got the special which included a drink ( nice coffee too ) at £7.00 per person value for money too ! keep up the great work and i will defo be eating here again

Excellent F&C, but why does it take so long when there's a very obvious menu? At least cook sufficient chips in advance. Waiting 15 minutes is ridiculous.

Had takeaway from Oysters fish bar today for the first time and was not disappointed. Chips were good they were not greasy and had a good flavour. We had a steak and kidney and mince beef pie both were very hot and as you would expect from Pukka pies good quality. Cost was average at £9.20. Would definitely return.

Came here with my daughter and my wife's niece from Brasil so she could experience our traditional dish of fish and chips. Wouldn't consider bringing her to anywhere else in Braintree. As always the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Always more than enough chips and the curry sauce was divine.My daughter went for the chicken nuggets and chips which she says are the best she's ever had, high praise indeed. The children's option comes with a drink and ice cream afterwards.Can't wait to go back again. As always very friendly service and nothing is too much trouble.

Oysters is a traditional "fish and chips" establishment catering for both the st down and take away trade. In the last few weeks I have eaten there several times, each time ordering the fish and chips deal which includes a pot of tea. The fish is always fresh and beautifully cooked and is a pleasure to eat. The flesh is moist and the batter is nice and crispy. Not only that, the portion is huge. Its accompaned by sauces of choice and additions, such as a gherkin are included in the price.A very good traditional meal. Probably the best in Braintree. Recommended

Feeling quite hungry and a ‘bit shaky’ I called in at Oyster’s late afternoon on 14th October hoping for a quick light meal before driving back to London.I asked if I could have Cod, Salad, and Mushy Peas instead of Chips. I was attended to by delightful friendly staff. Re my request to supplant the chips with mushy peas - no problem whatsoever!Whilst waiting to be served I ran a critical eye over the table and place setting. The coverings were spotless, as were the condiment containers and the refreshingly pristine ‘proper’ cutlery. None of that detergent/lime stained thin lightweight pressed junk we so often encounter in other ‘budget establishments’. Just couldn’t fault it. Tea was served in similarly spotless teapot accompanied by proper crockery to drink it from. The meal, cheerfully served by a lovely smiling lady was superb! My request for mint sauce to accompany the abundant portion of mushy peas was met instantaneously. [If only other places could follow suit!]. The fish was really nice. A good sized portion that tasted very fresh; the batter was nice and crunchy throughout; and it had obviously been cooked in untainted clean oil. The accompanying salad was absolutely fresh, clean and crispy - well-presented and quite sufficient.All in all, and notwithstanding the very high quality I have come to expect from Oyster’s I considered this impromptu late afternoon light meal to be quite outstanding.This modest little eating place tucked away from Braintree’s town centre is a gem that really does set a benchmark which others would do so well to follow [if they could!]. All that for just £7.00. Incredible!

The food here is brilliant, I don't think we've ever had a bad meal in here. A good menu, warm and friendly staff and the choice to eat in or take away.Definitely worth a visit!
