This has always been a favourite stop when walking the undercliff path, but stopped today to find that there was no hot food, no bacon rolls or sausage sandwiches, so bit disappointed. Seems like this is a permanent change, so a bit of a shame.

It was well worth travelling on my bicycle from Brighton. I stumbled across a fantastic art piece, on the side of the Tuck shop. I almost veered off into the pebbles, but not without buying a lovely piece of cake first . Ovindgean undercliffe is arguably the worlds first seafront academy of art.

Does anyone know if this cafe is open at present? I cannot get a reply from their phone line to check. Their website says open till 6.30 but seems unlikely given it gets dark by 5pm. Quick reply appreciated please.

Give Yourself a treat that involves a wonderful walk, fresh air, beautiful views and fine tea and cake. Leave Brighton walk east on the Undercliff walk past the marina and out to Saltdean and they'll find right on the Undercliff walk the Ovingdean café with wonderful home-made cakes and a large mugs of delicious tea, all very reasonably priced. All the tables are outside, sit and enjoy the magnificent view and the fabulous tea and cake. If you're fit walk back to Brighton, ( about 5kms each way)if you're not like us, catch the 12A bus close by on the coast road and return to Brighton having enjoyed a wonderful afternoon's outing Chris and Gill London

A popular cafe for locals, cyclists and walkers. Happily inaccessible by car, only people who know go. They do lovely cake, even delicious gluten free, and they happily show you the ingredients. Lovely tea, coffee, lovely people who own it and serve. Just a gorgeous little oasis, with plenty of seating or a wall to sit on.

If the sun is out this place is perfect for coffee and home made cake. She doesn`t do fancy coffees but does tea also of course.

I am grading this as an average as people working there are very friendly and polite. I am sorry I cannot give more as I feel that this is very basic to be able to offer an espresso or real coffee. The only thing on offer is granulated coffee. I have not seen this anywhere nowadays. Yes lots of tea, but not a fan of tea. Nice cakes, I felt there were a little bit expensive. But if you are a tea person definitely you will enjoy this more than myself .

This is a great place along the Undercliff between the marina and Rottingdean. Always a good choice of cakes as well as ice lollies. Bacon rolls also available - I was very tempted, maybe next time! Staff are always friendly and helpful.

As visitors to the area, we chanced upon this cafe whilst walking the Undercliff Walk. We stopped here for a coffee & tea and sat enjoying the view. The lady serving was friendly and suggested we continue our walk to Rottingdean, which I am glad we did. An honest, no frills cafe which I'd definitely use again if in the area.

I have always loved eating at this cafe. It is no frills, with a good selection of bites all very reasonably priced. The service is excellent and all staff are extremely personable. It is , in my opinion, the best beach cafe in Brighton and Ir' s bacon but ties are to die for . If you are ever visiting Saltdeab, Rottingdean or Ovingdean I thorough recommend that you talk a walk along the under cliff and treat yourself to this hidden treasure!😀

We visit this cafe twice a year when we take part in an organised dog walk, so we see it at its most pressurised. The unflappable staff serve everyone amid the noise and bustle that accompanies 100 excited dogs and their families. Cakes are extremely good quality, e.g. rose and pistachio sponge. I also love the sign saying 'we don't serve skinny lattes, cappuccinos, moccaccinos..... just Gold Blend'. With a welcome mug of strong tea, it was just perfect.

Walked the undercliff Brighton to Rottingdean with friends today. Chanced upon the perfectly positioned Ovingdean Beach Cafe. Lovely slab of homemade fruit cake and spot on mug of tea. Ate the cake, drunk the tea, soaked up some rays. Happy days.

This is such a charming little café - I don't know what I'd do without it on my long walks with my dog. It sells lovely homemade cakes to go a long with a nice mug of tea. When you get there on a day when the sun is out, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be in Brighton.

We've been coming here for years and for a small kiosk, it ticks all the boxes. OK, so there is no fancy barrista coffee machine but you get an honest cuppa with simple sandwiches made to order and a good choice of home baked cakes. Never had a bad lunch here. Always popular with walkers, cyclists, dog walkers, etc. Staff are really friendly. And of course the undercliff walk is wheelchair friendly, albeit you need to have some strength for a carer to negotiate (i.e. push) at the hill at the Rottingdean end.

I just really wanted to register agreement with the other reviewers of this establishment. It really is a wonderful little place and perfectly placed on the undercliff between Brighton and Rottingdean. The walk there can be very spectacular at high tide, with waves breaking over the sea defences and strong winds, so it's good know there's this little oasis at just the right point. The real reason to go there, though, is for the cakes. They are all freshly baked, homemade, generously served - on actual plates! - and at almost ridiculously reasonable prices. The people who run it are always extremely friendly and helpful.Worth making a detour to experience if you weren't planning to go that way.

This delightful little café is located on the Undercliff Walk, approximately half way between Brighton Marina and Rottingdean or, if you don't feel like walking, park the car near The Blind Veterans at Ovingdean and walk down the steps. The café is run by two lovely Ladies (Liz and Jane) and 'volunteer' members of their families and often, it is open on Christmas, Boxing and New Year's. The bacon sandwiches and home made cakes are to die for and tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc are always available. It is, of course, very popular with cyclists, runners, walkers (dog optional), strollers and beach combers so it gets very busy and there can be a need to exercise patience to be served and/or be seated. Just love the place and the ambience it creates so it comes very highly recommended.

This is shown in the wrong position on the map in trip advisor. Although more a kiosk than a sit down cafe, you sit outside ,the bacon sandwich was worth the walk from Brighton marina along the lower cliff path. Service was friendly, papers were available.
