Overdraft Craft Ale Bar in Southampton

So so so good. Staff were so nice and food came over so quick (even tho it was quite busy and they had a few in line orders). Got the Biria tacos and beef tacos. Would 100% recommend

Didn’t know what to expect when I turned up, but the food was amazing and a little bit too much so I got to take some home! And my favourite song of all time was playing… 11/10 x

A wonderfully eclectic place. The decor and atmosphere are very 'garage'. The tacos are delicious - we had the carne asada and the beef was just perfect. Also got the wings and they were spicy, sticky and perfectly cooked. The selection of beers and ciders is as usual fantastic. A good variety ! Will be back. Always.

Nice place to have a beer, food was ok but a bit pricey for the portion.

Friday night was almost empty but we know why because of the god awful rap music being played. Says it all

A bit of a welcome oasis in the area. Great atmosphere, food looks fantastic, and always good to find a place with mezcal behind the bar. Will definitely be back.

Some great beers and the young lady behind the bar was very knowledgeable about the different beers. We will definitely be going back here.

Lovely environment and staff! Been a few times since opening and always greeted with a smile. The vibe of the place is refreshing (and looks great in pics lol). Food is absolutely delicious (TRY THE NACHOS) with lots of vegan + veggie options too. Bonus they have a dj on friday playing absolute bangerz

Great place until they opened Bedford place and limited the menu. Staff are frosty especially in Shirley after the opening of the new branch. Not really family friendly. DJ sessions are good but eclectic.

Food was fantastic! I've had a lot of terrible tacos in my life any this without a doubt isn't one of them. Food was delicious, service was great and our pints tasted spot on. Five stars!

Great vibe and great selection!

Just had a beer which was disgusting,,sadly the manager was very unhelpful and unwilling to take any constructive criticism.apparently it is the customers job to know all about ale.if a beer is sour it would be helpful if it was stated so on the menu

Went there today 22/11/2023. The waiter was so rude. Didn’t even say hello when went to the till to order food. The way she was talking to me was absolutely dreadful. Clearly she doesn’t like serving customers. Took my husband and sister for some snacks and a few drinks today. Sorry but the waiter absolutely made the experience uncomfortable.

What an amazing bar on Shirley high street. Amazing selection of craft beers, food and music. I can’t rate this place highly enough!

Great local place to have a few craft pints. They changed regularly with really good beers on the tap. It's a bit of an exaggerated hipster mood, but if you don't mind that is an excellent local one. Food was good too, a little extra spicy 🔥 but good.

Only down side is that the land lord is a horrible man. I walked in with one bite of my Tesco sandwich left as I was putting it into my mouth he shouted at me and kicked me out. I really like the place and all the other staff. I saw him shout at a number of other people whilst I was outside too. What a loser. If he is there I would recommend not going in. If he isn't there it's a great place to have a drink. Not cheap mind.

The reason to go to this place is the brilliant selection of good quality real ales. I did not try the food but it smelt nice. The beers are well kept and a unique selection in Southampton.

Went here one afternoon. For a meal and beer. Not to busy. Sat at a table inside. Waited 3/4 hour to be served, gave up and left.

Ordered a takeaway from here last night after reading such "great reviews" Absolutely awful food. The tacos were grim, the beef looked like cat food. Nothing tasted nice at all. Will never order from here again.

Die hard fan of the OD! Banging beers and awesome tacos! A must visit in Southampton or Winchester.

Thank goodness for Overdraft. Southampton struggles to be cool and this place ticks many boxes for a bar that strives to give us a little taste of London's dive bars or Bristol's trendy hang outs, all with some international flavours from Mexico. The food is amazing and the tacos are authentic hand made corn tortillas that would find in central and southern areas like Oaxaca, or Puebla. its the real deal.

Too salty, a good beef tender ruined by too much salt it was difficult to eat it's a shame

Yes. Relaxed, informal London vibes, great selection of beers & ciders. Food modern, party street food. Nice smoking area. DJ sets on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and they sell records!

Nice beers but the tacos and fries were just too salty(and I enjoy well seasoned food). Fried chicken wings were superb however

Really great place,with an ideal smaller menu of food that is done really well, great offers on food throughout the week. Always a great selection of IPA, ALE etc. Really good friendly vibes and draws a good crowd of respectful people, has been my favourite place to drink for a while now..

We ordered through Deliveroo but loved the food, it was so fresh and tasty. We would definitely like to visit and dine in.

The team sorted is out a huge delivery of tacos for 40 and they were amazing! Loads of food and great quality. Hands down the best tacos in the south.

Expensive wine so forget it unless you don’t mind being ripped off. Can’t believe you’d charge £7.70 for a large glass of Merlot.

Staff are always friendly. Beer and cider selection is always great. I've not tried the food, but it always looks good. Music selection is always excellent

This place advertised 2 for 1 in tacos on their website and even Google says that too, but when I asked they said "it changed a month ago to 25% off" but they haven't updated their website! The tacos were salty too... not sure if they did it on purpose to make me buy more drinks or was just a bad batch lol The drinks were nice so I'll give them that .

I just love it here. You will too if you are a fan of craft beers, stouts and or ciders... No whiff of big brewery or bad beer here. Staff are amazing. Taco menu and specials are fab. Punters very friendly. Dog friendly. Great venue for DJs and live music

Our 1st time visiting Overdraft. We didn't know what to expect but ended up having a lovely evening. It was very noisy and crowded but there was no trouble at all. The tables were cleaned whenever they were vacated. They even serve food.

Good options with multiple vegan choices. Smoked pulled aubergine taco was amazing. Loads of craft beers/cider/stout. Will definitely visit again.

Its a really nice place to sit, chill, drink ales, ciders and spirits. the energy in the room is always high and its a great place to meet new people. Highly recommend

Great selection of pints and friendly staff.

Some of the staff are extremely rude and unwelcoming, on New Year’s Eve I was stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting to get a drink when the scruffy long haired bar tender in his appeared to be mid 30s skimmed past me to serve 4 other people then when eventually getting to myself who he had been avoiding decided to ask me if “ I even had a ticket “ while giving me a dirty look, yes I had a ticket but I did not see him ask a single other person that question, in other words unless your a scrawny middle aged hipster the bar staff will look at you like your not good enough to be in their pretentious little bar on the mutant mile of all places, I guess if you don’t like good service feeling welcome and happen to think your better then everyone around you even if your evidently 30 year old beta male and dress like a teenager this is the place for you, I personally won’t spend another penny after the last experience, I will not pay the wages of rude little cretins.

Excellent chill atmosphere. Delicious food and very tasty beers. Super staff. Good prices with take away. I will be back next time I am in the area.

Very disappointed the deputy manager did not let me take away the tacos I couldn't finish today making up a funny excuse that on Tuesdays we are not allowed to take food home?? I do come to this bar very often and they have always being nice and friendly, today not so much. I hoped this change back to what it used to be.

A friend and I had booked a table for 1730 this evening.  Due to some particularly heavy traffic (I live in the Totton area) I arrived 27 minutes late. The person who I was going to eat with had a phonecall 10 minutes prior to me arriving (after a considerable taxi fair to reach your establishment). I arrived and explained the situation 27 minutes after our booking time, only to be rudely told by barstaff that its not his problem and there was nothing he could do. He then implied I lacked common courtesy by not contacting, and that it was the general practice to give tables up after a certain time period.  We were not aware of this. So I was significantly annoyed by this point, due to the significant trip and the nonchalant attitude of the staff.  And I believe justifiably. When asked if there was a possibility of getting another table, I was told "not with that attitude" and that I "bowled in with an attitude problem, and I won't give you a table". This is quite a disappointing and humiliating position to be in.

beer is lovely, munch is peng (especially the mac and cheese), staff are unreal and there’s a great barbers next door

Having worked in LA I see myself as a bit of an expert in Mexican food. This place serves The Best Nachos and their ciders and beers are superb. I was both impressed and highly surprised to find a venue of this quality in Shirley High St (the Mutant Mile)

Good food except the paper they serve the food on,it tends to end up being eaten, NOT what I am paying for. If I want to eat paper I'd go to W H SMITH.

Pretty much the best micro pub/bar in Southampton. (Still) Great beers/ciders at a fair price, good staff and a friendly crowd. Only downside is how small/crowded it can get but that's a small complaint.

I could write a long review about this place but instead I will just suggest that anyone reading this tries the cauliflower wings. I'm not a vegetarian and when presented with the option of meat or veg I will pick meat every, single, time. Now I had a friend over last week but he's carnivorously challenged but we wanted to get a takeaway and the wings were on a two for one so I sucked it up and bought some expecting the worst. However I was completely blown away! Those cauliflower wings are the best wings I've ever had, period. I was so impressed that I took the wife there a couple of days ago and again ordered the wings even though that time I was under no obligation to avoid the meaty alternative. Absolutely excellent both times. Maybe a tad over salted the second time though not enough to ruin it. Will definitely be going back in the future! Trying great food.

The best tacos and beer in Southampton!

We arrived for a casual dinner, drinks order was taken fairly prompt but we waited around another 20 minutes for our food order to be taken. We were told by the waitress they had run out of Nachos, which i was amazed any mexican restaurant could do so (and wondered why they hadn't popped to the supermarket next door?!) But they instead offered to do loaded fries instead of nachos. They also had ran out of the smoke aubergine taco so we found something else to order. Our sides came out first. Every single one of them was smothered in Coriander. I don't mind coriander as a garnish but we had to scrape off heaps off of each and every dish because it was unbearable and made everything taste the same. The cauliwings were the only good thing about this dinner. The loaded fries had so much cheese sauce, gauc and sour cream it came out as a soggy chip soup and the vegan mac and cheese was bland aside from if you got a mouthful of coriander. We also werent given any plates with our sides so we did our best to manage with napkins.. Our tacos didn't come out to us for a further 40 minutes. When they came out the fillings were stone cold and again smothered in coriander. We sent them back and 5 minutes later some warm ones were served to us. The restaurant had a DJ playing and I'm all for the energy but the volume of the music kept increasing and we were shouting at one another to have a conversation. Dissappointed and will never return!

We finally visited overdraft the other evening, because it's very local and we and always looked nice. Their craft beers are a tad on the pricey side, and very IPA orientated, but hey, it's not everyday we go out. The mexican inspired food though was extremely good and just enough while drinking beer. Very well thought out menu and portions, and very polite and knowledgeable staff. Would like to try there again soon, if the covid police let us.

We visited Overdraft (Shirley) last night, along with our little canine friend. First time visit for us and what can I say? Wow! Absolutely brilliant in every respect. Being a Friday night (and we hadn't booked), it was busy with all tables booked, but the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Great beers, great staff, great clientele. An absolutely fabulous venue. We'll be back very very soon. Thank you!

Not as good a draft beer range as normal understandable in the circumstances. Can range extensive, so didn't go wanting. Great crew and atmosphere as ever, bangin tunes as well.

Welcoming and friendly! Being on my own I was nervous about going out during what appears to be wave 2 of the covid crisis,but the guy at overdraft had everything in place and kept a strict but informative manner to anyone entering without a mask. Beer selection was great,ranging from session to DIPAs on draft and a quality can selection I wished I had time to go through. Quick table service and the taco's were really tasty. I had the spicy chicken one,which has a kick to them! Added bonus of offering NHS discount, which was a lovely gesture. Look forward to returning
