Everyone is so welcoming here, the food is always fresh and portion size is huge! If this chippy is closed we don't get it because once you have tried the best there's no looking back!

Gluten free batter, simply Amazing! We decided to place an order for collection for a family lunch. 2 of us are coeliac and must have Gluten free batter. Everyone agreed the batter was superb (even the muggles with us tasted the GF batter and were surprised as it tasted just like normal batter). We tried a couple of battered sausges - they were just like old fashioned sausages, devine. I do telephone to order in advance as the fryers in the back (for Gluten Free batter), need time to warm up before use. This is not the first time we have been here, and it will certainly not be the last! Thank you for the extras too! x

Great chippy, definately going back, food came hot and the drink selection was good. All staff were lovely and up for a chat when they weren’t busy, 10/10 going back.

Past few times of ordering the standards of food have really gone downhill the cod is soggy the chips are like crisps we use this place regular but will be giving it a miss

Great fish and chips the gluten free fish after 7pm is well worth the wait highly recommended it .I also love the chicken strips with curry sauce. Free bottle of pop too what more could you want .All that with happy staff too.

Oulton Road Fish and Chip Shop is one of the best in Suffolk. The fish is absolutely delicious, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The staff are polite and friendly. It's so busy in there, even with about eight members of staff, so be prepared to wait. They do other things besides fish. They also have a children's menu and even have a large GLUTEN FREE menu. Monday to Thursday, lunchtimes they also do a meal deal. They do deliveries as well. Inside there are a couple of tables and chairs. You can park about five cars outside.

Friendly staff, clean shop. Always busy. Now to some people a short wait is too much. But I think the wait is worth it. The amount of return customers you see speaks volumes, this is my go to chippy 100%. The cod has always been light and moist, crisp tasty batter. A large chips will fill you up and the battered sausages are great! Delivery is available if the queue isn't for you. And phone in orders might speed things up a bit. The only thing to be aware of is the parking. Is gets very tight on spaces as there are a few shops here. Sometimes the parking spills out obscuring the road. So be careful when leaving with your food.

Lovely people and great food. The haddock was delicious. Unfortunately, the chips were cold due to them blocking every road in the town to tarmac! Instead of 5 minutes back to the hotel, took 35 minutes! Would definitely go back and thoroughly recommend. 👍🏻

Quite possibly the best chip shop[ in Suffolk! Recently moved from Essex to Lowestoft and as you do you try a bit of everything but wow this chip shop is something else. The chips are lovely and fluffy, no excess grease and portion sizes are very generous. Have tried most things and never disappointed. Extremely impressed with the Gluten free batter option for the fish. The Chicken Strips are Devine and wow the gravy! On top of that they have the best staff, friendly and up for a chat (obviously when busy its heads down) but we feel welcome and wanted. We are at least once a week and highly recommend.

Usually good however chips fish and chips had definite rancid taste leaving me feeling sick ? Oil FFA (free fatty acids) could have been cause and resulted in taint ? Won’t be back any time soon

Great fish and chips, food cooked well. Staff really lovely, and always friendly. I usually ask them to double wrap my fish and chips as I have a distance to travel to get home. Food stays warm enough to be enjoyable. Good size portions too.

We had another perfect chippy meal from this award winning restaurant. Perfect fish, lovely crispy batter, normal and gluten free are exceptional. Offering gluten free means we can all enjoy a great fish supper. Tastiest saveloy and sausage in batter I have had. Staff are amazing, quick, efficient, very helpful and always cheerful. Great fish and chips. They offer gluten free or no batter options too. Don't be fooled by the veggie sausages (if they still do them), they are just vegetables in batter, not really what we expect with veggie sausages nowadays! Great service and there are chairs and tables available if you did want to sit in, but most people use it for takeaway

Best fish and chips around. Everything cooked fresh. Never does reheated chips. Food is always the same, exceptional quality. Tasty food. Big portions. Sometimes a long wait as they get very busy, but its well worth waiting for.

My daughter-in-law:s birthday yesterday so we ordered food from this god awful chippy. I ordered haddock & chips & the chips were like leftover then refried chips & they didn't even input my haddock in I had to te-order and wait for it to be delivered separately. Today I have been very sick & had diarrohea as my fish was obviously off, the fish skin was like leather & the batter was hard as concrete. It had.obviouslybeen fried at too high a temperature and the batter was rock hard before the fish was cooked properly. I will be reporting this to THE FOOD STANDARDS & HYGIENE AGENCY, when I phoned and spoke to the owner he didn't care & told me it was my fault. I strongly advise people to avoid this dump like the plague if they value their health!!!

Since we moved here, we have pretty much tried every chip shop, and were delighted to finally discover this one! No wonder it was voted Best in Suffolk! The portions are huge, the chips are really great, and I can't fault anything!

Terrible place from start to finish! Staff aren’t interested, boss is rude & the wait times are ridiculous absolutely ridiculous food also isn’t worth the high pricing or the wait when there’s a kebab shop next to them.

It was our first time going here the food is excellent and well worth the money the portions are very generous too. The service by Alex and Kacey was brilliant they are very friendly and welcoming of new and regular customers. This has been worst order from here. After waiting TWO HOURS for delivery the batter on all of the order was overcooked and chewy, little ones nuggets were really overcooked. I can’t understand why it was like this as other times been reall good

I don’t usually leave reviews but this place definitely needs to be recognised. Can’t recommend this place enough. Spent years looking for a decent chip shop that’s cooks in Vegetable oil. The fish is massive if anything a bit too big and cooked to perfection so was the chips. Also great value for money. Even took the skin off my fish for me. AMAZING ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

the service was quick and right to it. i ordered the large cod, chips and curry sauce and i must say the portion size did not disappoint whatsoever. everything was fresh and piping hot, staff were very friendly and talkative, this was on a busy day so that says a lot. i can’t recommend this place enough!

We were really impressed with our takeaway fish and chips (delivery order). We order a skate, which was off the plate massive, even though it was “medium” on the menu. We also got a large cod, which came as two cod! Plus medium chips and plenty of them! Everything tasted great; would certainly recommend!

Completely pointless. I order via the app with a collection time of 6pm. I arrive at 6pm to collect my order only to be told that it's Friday and they're busy and then wait until after 6:30 before I finally get my order. I made the perfectly reasonable and constructive suggestion that if they knew that they couldn't provide the food on time then that they should have let me know, or even better adjust their promised times accordingly during busy periods. This suggestion was just met with blank looks and repetition of "well it's Friday". Disappointing waste of my time, pleasant but unresponsive staff, ok fish and chips but not with the extended waiting time.

We had food here tonight was really busy but we got our food quickly was really nice food and Alex was bang on the service in store was amazing and we even got a free bottle of drink and the kids got a capri sun and lolly each!!! Can’t recommend this place enough

Came here to get dinner today. It was really busy even on a Thursday so that says a lot in itself. The portion sizes are excellent and the fish was fresh and super tasty. Lovely staff and very good value for money.

We visited here because we were looking for gluten free for our daughter. The lady who served us went out of her way to make us feel welcome, she was lovely. Food was tasty too. If we ever visit Oulton again we will definitely come back.

I can honestly say that this is the best fish and chip shop we’ve ever been too. We were last here in August 2022 and when we knew we were coming back this was the first place we agreed we were getting dinner. The food tonight was fantastic and still the best Chip Shop we’ve ever been too. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, chips were perfect, curry sauce thick and tasty and my son’s chicken, in his words, was crispy and tender. I’m afraid I don’t know the names of the staff but I did speak to Becky and they were all really nice. In summary, if you are visiting the area or even live locally and have considered trying here then you really must give them the chance to impress you as I’m certain they will. Thanks Oulton Road Fish and Chip Shop, we will be back 😁
