Otters Smokehouse and Deli in Rutland

We visited for cakes and drinks. It was busy when we arrived, but the people serving were still smiley, friendly and attentive. We are both intolerant to gluten, so we had the lemon polenta cake and the chocolate, fruit and nut flapjack. Both were lovely. The waitress also offered to adapt pretty much anything on the lunch menu, to make it gluten free, if we’d been wanting anything savoury. My husband had a black coffee and said it was excellent. I had the best oat milk hot chocolate I think I’ve ever had! Really chocolatey and smooth.

We were staying in Oakham for a week and had plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. We loved Otters so much we ate 3 meals there in a week! Our first meal was the Sunday Brunch - we were so impressed with the service, quality of the produce and how beautifully cooked it was that we returned a few days later for lunch. My husband choose the cheese platter and I chose the ploughmans lunch. Again it was all terrific. When we had vacated our holiday cottage we returned for a third time - for breakfast - to set us up for our drive back home. My husband chose the mushrooms on toast with poached eggs and I had the scrambled eggs, roasted tomatoes and avocado. I can't recommend Otters enough - I'm only sorry there isn't a branch near us. Never mind - we will be returning next year

As always, exceptional food, service and coziness!!! We travel quite a distance to stay in Rutland each year and always have a lunch at Otters. Never lets us down!!!!

First visit to otters and all in all a good experience. We had poached egg and mushroom I had poached eggs on toast with chorizo and black pudding. Nicely presented but our eggs were over cooked and not runny and would have preferred not to have paper on the table.

Always great service, great food, the best coffee and great value for money. The breakfasts are so good and very flexible, you can get what you want.

Arrived about 11:30am and there were plenty tables. Excellent choice of breakfasts and specials. Staff were very attentive and the service was speedy.

Otters supplied an amazing welcome hamper for us at the Dragonwood Boathouse on the Ladywood estate so we stopped by when in Oakham to thank them and decided on impulse to indulge in breakfast. The scrambled eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection and the accompanying coffee was hot and well made. Staff were smiling and friendly and of course there’s a wide selection of “Fine Food” on the shelves to tempt you!

Highly recommend, can’t recommend enough. Fresh food, superb customer service, lovely atmosphere. We came to this place twice while on our holiday in Rutland.

Second visit on our way home to Cambridgeshire and just as good as our first visit. Excellent cakes, drinks and service. We will be back.

A really lovely lunch this is a very popular place. We sat upstairs the service was very good and the staff were really nice. High quality goods and sold in the shop and the choice of menu is excellent. I had an open sandwich sourdough bread with avocado and salmon delicious. My friends had hummus and pitta bread with a side of fries and a pulled pork and cheese open sandwich with fries.

Fantastic food and atmosphere great prices too I had the pulled pork on cheese toast. Wonderful start to my holiday will be back for more

What a gem - this fantastic deli has take out and dine in facilities - The food if is high quality and value for money - the staff and total ambiance is well worth the visit nothing is too much trouble They sell fine quality foods - drinks and even amazing flowers at weekends When visiting Oakham or Rutland water well worth a visit but beware ad they are exceptionally busy well done to Leo and the team and thank you for always looking after us @ottersfinefoods

We called in on our way back from Melton Mowbray to Cambridgeshire on Tuesday 6/6/23 for drinks and cakes. We hadn't visited this cafe before but we are very pleased we gave it a try. The building looks good from the outside and is well presented within. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady who showed us the cake selection. My wife had the raspberry and almond cake with her Cappuccino with oat milk and I had the Pistachio cake with my pot of tea. Excellent all round. The toilets, too, were spotless. We only get out that way two or three times a year but we will definitely stop here when we are in Oakham.

Wow! Sat outside in the lovely sunshine! Greeted by a lovely smiley server! Coffee and Hot chocolate were lovely. Inside has an array of lovely foods etc to buy. Really nice place.

Called in for morning coffee whilst walking around Oakham, served v good coffee, Bakewell tart and tea cakes. The only negative was that the tables had small paper table clothes which made it all look a little cheap.

This is a great place for meeting friends for lunch. The food is delicious and the service is good. There is a good selection of locally sourced meats,cheeses and bread. The space is light and airy with contemporary furnishing and artwork. Highly recommended.

Always a pleasure going to Otters. With the venue change it has quite a change in feel to match the ever expanding town of Oakham. The service is very friendly with the staff giving excellent recommendations. Our waitress somehow remembered all the cakes available at the counter as well! What I particularly like is that Otters is not too big and not to small. Even when busy it maintains a relaxing atmosphere. It keeps hold of its countryside roots without straying too far into a city type restaurant. The food is very tasty and reasonably priced. Worth visiting when you can.

The much anticipated new Otters opened and is wonderful. The food is as delicious as ever, as is the coffee. The staff are friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back.

Otters is a lovely spot in Oakham. The team are very friendly and there’s a fantastic selection of cheese and all the bits I need for Christmas. It is definitely worth a visit for their lunchtime fishcakes, yum!

If you’re looking for the best coffee in Rutland then you’ve found it at Otters. I must admit to being a coffee “snob” and have never had a ‘not so good’ coffee here. It’s always been excellent.

I was a regular customer at Otters at their old premises. I was looking forward to visiting the swish new restaurant but I was to be disappointed. The business has trebled in size, but there are no extra staff. The kitchen and waiting staff are stretched to serve so many people and the friendly atmosphere has to suffer. Some customers were being abusive as they had to wait longer than necessary. The food was still the same good standard but the ambience and personal service of the old place has gone.

First visit yesterday to Otters brand new premises on High Street, Oakham in the old NatWest Bank building. Super bright, airy and loads more room, over two floors. Shelves and fridges packed full of products to buy from salads, sandwiches, jams, chutneys, oils, sauces, wines, beers, meats and everything in between!

I first visited this establishment about five years ago, and became a regular visitor as the food was excellent, then about early 2018. it appeared to go off the boil so this was my first visit since then, and to be honest I wasn't blown away, it was satisfactory but no more. Ordering the food was not a problem as waiting staff were very keen, delivery however was very slow.

A magical place to eat, very quirky building, good service and amazing food. They are moving to larger premises soon, hope that doesn’t spoil any of the charm, I’m sure the food will be just as good.

Infrequent regular but always love the poached eggs. Amazingly fresh and delicious. The deli is great for quick takeaway lunch. Friendly staff. Love it here.
