What can i say. My family surprised me last night for my 60th birthday and I couldn't have ask for better. The food as always was amazing everything we could ask for and having caught up with Robbie again made it more special. They all work so hard to make sure everyone has what they need. Thank you so much to the family and staff it was perfect.Roberta x

The food was very good in fact it was flawless probably the best place to eat in Cookstown, the restaurant is in a beautiful location on a river bank the female owner is a fantastic lady salt of the earth who built this business over the years almost by herself, the downside to Otter Lodge is the owners husband he will make you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome a horrible man that will look down his nose at you, this rude man will slowly destroy this business. I would have given a five star review if I hadn't of met him.

We found this restaurant pleasant with tasty food. The decor is dated but the location, overlooking the river is lovely. The prices are more expensive than I initially thought as you order side orders of any vegetables or potatoes you want, which seemed a bit sneaky. The staff were ok but not hugely attentive.

First and last time. Got seated, had to take our menu to the table our selves and order from the bar, which to me who works in the industry personally think it’s very dated. You go out for a meal expecting to have staff (spoil) or look after you. Not here . Out front staff didn’t seem in anyway trained or give a dam.. me and my partner ordered 2 turkey. Ask the blonde hair witress could I have it with mash and not champ, rudley rolled her eyes and said the menu says mash... anyways arrives with champ, not fussed!! But the turkey was un eatable!!!! Covered in black veins and bruises .. staff weren’t bothered when I had said I wasn’t willing to eat it, never got offered anything else and 5 minutes brings me out the same plate of food ?????? Manager didn’t even acknowledge us or the complaint- paying I had to explain to a waitress while the manager stood.. I also had to ASK for the main course I didn’t touch and sent back twice to me taken of the bill!!! v v v disappointed

I was served by a young girl with mid length blonde hair who basically whispered + was so shy. Then went to her friend and talked like normal. Place badly need done up, so old fashioned, seats are very uncomfortable + needs a bit more life in it. Feel very uncomfortable every time I go, always feel I’m being watched and like its a crime to ask for something to be added etc.

A nice setting other than the cardboard 'scene' at the side. Staff said hello and pointed out the specials board. No indication that its not 'actually' a restaurant...u go to the bar to order..n bring ur 'tab' down to the table. The young girl could not tell me about the menu as she 'doesnt do the register' side orders are 'extra' on the main menu. We asked for cheesy garlic bruschetta but recieved cheesy garlic ciabatta..a half piece only. I was watched constantly to see if id finished my starter to the point of being completely uncomfortable. The main came..id ordered noodles. They had very clearly been warmed in one bowl...and dumped into ano for service..the mark of the first bowl very clearly outlined on the noodles..no seasoning no oil/sauce. Taken to the kitchen then a period of time before offered anything else. The chicken goujons? Greasy the garlic and chilli flakes added after cooking..only on one side. Salad...large chunks dumped on a plate no dressing. Garlic cubes seemed to have been reheated

Otter Lodge Restaurant has been in Cookstown for a number of years it's food is of consistently high standard. I would rate the food as amongst the best in Cookstown however I never seem to get the quality or properly cooked Steak to my liking, usually overcooked. That being said most everything else is very good and well presented and a very clean establishment with great staff. It a little expensive for the what's on offer including the wine, a meal for not including starter or sweet will set you back near £50. As I said earlier not many stand out eateries I'm Cookstown.

My friend and I met for dinner at the Otter Lodge. We opted for the 2 course special; both of us taking a main and dessert. At £12.95, it is favourably priced. I chose the pan fried chicken fillet with pepper sauce, selection of vegetables and chips. My friend had chicken goujons with garlic fries. I'm sorry to say that my main course was tasteless. It was presented well and cooked satisfactorily but it did nothing to excite my tastebuds. I ate it all due to being very hungry but wished I had of ordered something from the specials board instead. The pulled pork dish looked amazing! Fortunately, the jam and coconut sponge which I had for dessert was fantastic. The sponge was soft and fluffy and it had a very tasty jam topping on it. The custard was also piping hot. My friend had chocolate fudge cake which she thoroughly enjoyed. The service was excellent and there were a good few people in at the time (approx 5.30pm). I am so glad that a visual board has replaced the concrete wall outside; which I stared at during my last visit.

I was really looking forward to a lovely meal here. First impressions of the place- it was quite outdated in terms if decor. We were seated at a squished table right at the door. Every time someone came in or left we got a lovely gust of cold air! Don't know why we were placed there as there were lots of empty tables. We were then asked if we would like to move, I was pleased but ended up sitting beside a dusty stuffed otter. I ordered the salmon and when it came out it smelt extremely strange. Either it had gone off or was about too. I tasted a small bit but knew then there was something wrong. My dessert was sticky toffee pudding. It was rock hard on the bottom, must have been microwaved for too long. My husband ordered the steak. I've never seen a more pitiful sight! Small, tough, oily and placed on its own on a plate with no garnish. Very sad looking! I just feel like it was the chef's night off and we got a poor offering!

My friends steak ordered rare was also tough to cut. Not amazing cuisine ... Fries were an optional extra as was the sauce to go with the steaks. Thought they should have been included in the price. Two portions of fries arrived in the one dish portions were again quite small. Would rather we had two dishes of fries. I could have cooked better at home I was disappointed. After eating steak and fries I was still hungry and I don't have a massive appetite. My friend and we had to order sweets and coffees. I'm my opinion. Over priced. Over rated on trip adviser and. Undersize portions. Had fries and sauce been included in price of food and larger portions would have given a 5

Coming back to Cookstown for Christmas, I have always gone to Otter Lodge. The food in the past was always good. Not this time. When taking my partner out for food and drinks I was firstly disappointed in the seating arrangements. Our table was set on top of other tables with little privacy. In fact the party beside us asked the owner to take a photograph of them...no problem...only he proceeded to stand over us and place the camera directly over our table without recognition that we were there and eating. When we got our starters we were both very disappointed as it lacked any taste. This was the same with our main meals. When dining during winter, we expected the restaurant to be warm and cosy; however we were greeted by a huge electric heater that could have single handedly lit the place. Passing that, and sitting down, we were positioned opposite yet another heater that blinded my partner. Sun glasses should have been provided beside the sauces and cutlery. This had a huge impact on the atmosphere of the place. The staff were pleasant enough but it was clear to see they would rather have been elsewhere. Sorry but we won't be back in a hurry.

There was a good set menu and also some specials to choose from which we think shows the owners put some thought and effort into making the dining a different experience on each visit. We all had starters, and whilst the deep fried cheese was nicely presented we felt the portions could have been a little larger. Two of our party chose different fish dishes from the specials and although they again thought the portions could have been a little bigger both agreed all was very tasty. I had the beef stroganoff which I enjoyed and then we had desserts. Two of us had apple pie and custard which I think is about the best I have had at any restaurant. Having said we thought some of the portions could have been bigger none of us left hungry do perhaps it's eyes were bigger than our stomachs! We found it very relaxing and we took our time over our meal, there was no indication they wanted us to move on to allow others in and will certainly have no hesitation in returning.

I have visited the Otter Lodge over the years and have always said what it lacked in comfort and atmosphere it made up for in good food - well after having probably the worst meal I have had for years in any restaurant I now have to agree with what many others are saying and say that Otter Lodge is somewhere to be avoided. We had the Thai chicken which was obviously a reheated frozen fillet which lacked texture and taste, their onion rings where obviously cooked in oil which was not hot enough as were the chips. The chicken gougons were obviously left too long in the fat fryer and were rock solid and the sticky toffee pudding should have had a health warning as it was obviously just out of the microwave. Aside from the very poor quality food the place had little if any heat on and we bid a hasty retreat when finished to the warmth of our car. I actually felt quite unwell after the meal , I suspect either from recooked frozen chicken or the oil from the chips and onion rings. So goodbye Harold though I doubt if my non returning will bother you as you have obviously no interest in running a successful restaurant any more - what a waste particularly in such a great location particularly when Cookstown is crying out for a decent restaurant - based on this experience I will go to the newly built KFC before I would go back to the Otter Lodge.

The three of us had lunch in Otter lodge. The staff were friendly although not as warm as they could be. You order food at the bar. The beef in pepper sauce on the special menu was excellent (served with both rice and chips). The salmon with chilli noodles was good however, it was swimming in the sauce. Overall, it's good value food, fairly large portions when the chips/rice are included and we would return.

We went here because Villa Vinci was closed for repairs and we couldn't think of another restaurant in Cookstown. The decor on first impression is exactly what you end up getting, the 90's. Pleasent staff but you go and order it like a takeaway, random. Food was terrible. We went safe with a burger and a lasagne. The chef should be ashamed of themselves. Surely they can produce better than what was served. Busy place but have no understanding how. It needs someone to care for the business. Could be so much more in those settings.

I am still reeling from what just happened in this restaurant tonight. we had travelled quiet a distance to visit a friend from the town and it was suggested to go out for tea.my friend and i selected a main course with the other member going for the 2 course special meal deal which was a starter and main course of burger AND chips. The starter came and then the 3 main courses. The meal deal was a hamburger and well it would have bounced - it was so hard and dried out. My friend brought it to the attention of the waiter who removed the burger only and brought another menu. That was that, we waited for her return and then i split my meal with her. This was ok until the end when the owner said that he would not charge me for the burger!!!! i explained that the meal was inedible therefore he could not charge anyway BUT believe it or not he charged for the CHIPs which were part of the dish!!!! we also had to pay separate for the starter of bread. But i am still reeling from the fact that we had a plate advertised as burger and chips and because we could NOT EAT the burger they charged us for a portion of chips. It will be a very long time before any of us will travel to this restaurant. This was dealt with very badly by the owner.

Our first visit to Cookstown and we were unfamiliar with restaurants in the area. After checking the internet we decided to eat at Otter Lodge. We were very happy with our choice. It is informal, but the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The specials were clearly listed on the board, and we also had the regular menu to choose from. Yes, you do have to go to the counter to give your order but that did not detract from our enjoyment of the restaurant. You have plenty of time to check the specials on the board and to read through the menu before ordering. The restaurant is in a lovely location by the river, which was still beautiful in spite of the rain on our visit.

I haven't been here for many months but as I was planning to go last night, I looked up some reviews first. After reading some of the reviews,I was thinking abt going elsewhere however this has been one of my fave restaurants for some time so decided to go and see myself if it has changed for the worse. My friend and I both had fish, mine the cod with Thai curry sauce and the other was sea bass with couscous. Couldn't fault either, the sides of garlic fries and mixed salad good too. Only has room for coffee after that. Only downside is the draught coming in every time the door is opened. They should really have a 2nd door to prevent this. Other than that, would definitely be back again!

Went here ordered of specials expecting these to be the quickest option as we were on our hour long lunch break, which is more than sufficient else where. After half an hour of a wait and sipping water. I plucked up the courage to ask how long ours would be? Two tables still to be served as it was busy, place half empty. We left, without food!

I eat regularly in the Lodge, I wasn't going to review it again but on looking through trip adviser I felt obligated to respond to some negative comments made. I am really lucky to always dine with interesting company so I never have to listen to other people's conversations. The food is as I request it, always of a really high standard, cooked perfectly to my liking not at all greasy.I don't have a problem with ordering the food at the bar because it allows one the opportunity to engage with the very polite and obliging staff. The decor. Is very pleasing and there is a lovely ambience in the restaurant. For anyone that is in anyway sociable, it is a great venue for meeting up with people and great unexpected nights have been had there. The music is always pleasant and not obtrusive.

I took a relative for lunch here recently. The dining room was really cold and the decor dated and tired. There is a gas fire which should have been on to create warmth and ambience. You collect a menu at the bar and then return to the bar with your order. We ignored the 'specials' board and ordered from menu starters and main course. Food selection is stuck in the 70s and what we got was very average. I wouldn't go back because the food, service and dining room wasn't good enough

Haven't been to Otter Lodge for about 3 months; used to be a regular visitor. Thought we would give it another chance. Poor menu and the view of a poster outside was laughable. Tables far too close - could hear everyone's conversation three tables away. Food was terrible main course served ten minutes before the sides. Food was very greasy and of a very poor standard. Music was very poor listening to the Dallas themetune and more dreary country music. Staff were very rude and just threw the food at us, didn't even anounce what the food was just threw it on the table. In these times of recession people are very cautious about how they spend their hard earned cash and I can assure you that I will not be spending mine in the Otter Lodge in the near future. I would prefer to spend a little extra and get something wothwile instead of being disappointed with the experence of eating out as a family. Will go to Viscounts or Salleys in Aughnacloy in the future. Very poor quality of food. Very disappointed as this was once our favourite restaurant and has obviously cut back on the quality of the food. Not good stay at home instead and cook yourself you won't regret it!

I have no words to describe this facility! Food tasted store bought (promised to be home cooked), I was going to book myself, my husband and my three children (all under 10 years old) for Christmas dinner but was shocked to find the price being £55 EACH for adults and £29 for children under 11. Me being a mother of three young children I know myself they all wouldn’t eat a lot so why is their price so shockingly large?! That is more less £200 on a carvery which will be located in a small, out dated, stuffy room room which looks like a 19th century’s school! The music is unbearably loud and it is always the same, it is old school country which I have even found that most of the older customers cannot stand. The staff is poor quality but I believe that many are under aged, the young girls are often seen running around like headless chickens with no help, once or twice I’ve heard management be rude and disrespectful also adding they provided the workers NO HELP! The food can be ok at some parts but like I’ve recently wrote, tastes very branded and not homemade. Once or twice the utensils I’ve seen have had old food stuck to the handles and water stained marks. Going into a restaurant which is meant to be ‘classy’ and ‘well took care of’ I hate to think that the cutlery isn’t being washed correctly. Serious need of inspection needed!
