Osteria Caernarfon in Gwynedd

I went here after much deliberation about what place to go in the town. Such a disappointment. Terrible food. No culinary craft. All dishes could easily be made at home. Expect much more when you are paying £100 for dinner!

It was our first time eating in this restaurant & were made to feel very special. If I lived locally we’d be here all the time. The owner and all the team were genuinely friendly and were excellent guides to our choice of food and wine for the evening. My advise would be to try their recommendations. You certainly won’t be disappointed. So if your thinking about eating here - don’t hesitate- just book your table.PsIt was our 34th anniversary and will celebrate our 35th here

Had a wonderful meal here last night, we shared a meat and cheese platter and carpaccio. Absolutely faultless and certainly one of the very best antipasti we've had, really well selected meats and cheeses, delicious pate and bruscetta with interesting and delicious vegetables too. The coccoli bread and mushroom pate were particular highlights. The host/chef was a lovely chap and certainly knows his stuff and is passionate about food. We will absolutely be returning when we're next I'm Caernarfon - I only wish we were closer!

Phoned a few times without reply. When walking past, it was boarded up. They could have had the courtesy of letting us know they were closed as the website states they are open.

Warm atmosphere. Friendly staff Limited menu but very tasty. Starters are all types of Bruschetta. Main , pasta dishes Starters around 4.95, Mains around 13, deserts 3 choices around 6 Room upstairs and down.

Great food. Good service.had the Brusolia main. What a portion size. Didn’t have wine as was driving but very reasonable

That the food was amazing goes without saying. However, the atmosphere and warm welcome were outstanding. We felt strangers as we entered and friends as we left.The menu is simple, fresh and honest. A chain restaurant this is definitely not. So if that’s what you are after I’m glad to say this restaurant is not for you!

It was good to find a restaurant that concentrates on Tuscan regional dishes rather than the ubiquitous pizza and pasta of many Italian restaurants. I think it was beneficial that they concentrate on a limited selected of dishes on the menu and cook them well rather than a wider choice that might otherwise be less inspired.The staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the less familiar dishes. The meat and cheese sharing board was excellent... come to think of it now, I didn't see an olive on it!Portion sizes were over-generous but the downside was there was only room for a single plate of panna cotta to share. It shouldn't be ignored but the coffee was, of course, excellent.

Wonderful authentic Italian, great food, ambiance and service. Nothing too much trouble, a real change from the chain Italian foods usually found.

Visited with family and had a warm welcome. The young girl waiting on was very friendly and helpful with the menu.Ordered the sharing meats and cheeses board to start which was really good. The fried Italian bread was the best thing and more of this would have been great.Sadly the pasta mains were okay but nothing special. I undertand that this is a rustic restaurant which is fine however the portions were too big, no presentation and the flavours quite flat which was a shame. I would definitely revisit for the platter and the wine. I don't think we'd go for the pasta again though.

We live locally and had heard very good things about Osteria. We booked through Facebook, but were told that booking was a must because the space is very limited. I can’t fault the staff, or the quality of the food, but what I will say is that the menu could be broader. Bruschetta was out of this world especially the Gorgonzola walnut and honey topping. But we wanted a good pasta main. We understand that Tuscan food I totally different to the food of southern Spain but for the price I was expecting a main that consisted of much more than a ball of mozerella a few cherry tomatoes Parma ham and garlic bruschetta. So I basically got a Tuscan Plowman’s.I love the fact that there is diversity in Caernarfon but charging a premium price for starter like mains is a bit much.I would say try the place out but in future I’ll be spending less for an Italian meal at Villa Marina.

Food was not terrible but it wasn’t restaurant quality. We shared bruschetta, which was cold, even the garlic mushroom topping, which did not look or taste freshly cooked. We both chose our mains from the specials menus, my husbands was ham, mozzarella, tomatoes and some garlic bread! I chose a prawn, with leek and chilli sauce pasta. It was pasta twirls with some tiny chewy prawns, cream sauce and a sprinkle of dried chilli on the top. Was not good at all. There was one waiter who struggled managing. Def would not recommend.

Discovered Osteria by chance looking for a quite place to eat after a busy day. This place is amazing. Front of house staff Andy was friendly and informative, knew the menu inside out. It may have been a small menu but every dish was quality. No complaints whatsoever. This place is a gem. Chef and owner Sergio knows how to cook

Not as good as we thought it would be starter tiny could have made a stack of it for the price paid pasta main v plain could have done with a few herbs or a sprinkle of fresh herbs on top parmesan was not brought to the table it was pleasant we were hungry but not wow expected home made pasta with a better sauce as I day plain chef went outside for a fag anyway

Our host had been here for 4 years from Florence -making the most of an opportunity. Well the result tonight was a pleasure to eat and experience. We started with a platter or bruschetta with some meats,cheese and honey plus this spectacular secret weapon. Deep fried Bread. I can’t even begin to describe it. Other than to say WOW ! Then on to carpaccio of beef with delicious tomato and Parmesan salad. Sumptuous indeed. Now feeling full N had to try the Panacotta trio. Another triumph. The two young people guiding our choices were excellent and with the added input from the Chef Patron the whole experience was wonderful. N particularly enjoyed his suggestion for a fine wine by the glass. Osteria is a small cosy space with attentive knowledgable staff who deliver on all fronts.

Having tried a few other ’highly-rated’ t/a restaurants during our stay we finally got it right at Osteria! Wow. Very small menu, which I always find reassuring, and everything we had was perfection.

We stopped in Caernarfon on our way to Pwllheli and had dinner here. It was recommended by a friend. We were sat downstairs but there is more seating upstairs. It wasn't a huge menu but the food we ordered was delicious. We had the meat and cheese platter to share as a starter then both had a pasta main and shared a cheesecake for desert. The staff were friendly and we had an enjoyable meal and evening.

Recommended by a foodie friend so we were keen to get a table. Couldn’t get an answer whenever we rang and only in Caernarfon for 4 nights. So dropped in to book a table for later in our stay. Managed to get a reservation but noticed, every time we passed, it had a sign on the door saying it was fully booked.

I live locally and visit often, and Osteria never fails to disappoint. I usually order the same dish - the Osteria platter - it's always prefect! Great service even though it was very busy, and great wine.

The last time I wrote a review on an Italian restaurant I was in Italy. The food and the flavours in this restaurant made me think we were back in Italy not in Wales. Small restaurant, small menu but massive flavours. Authentic breads cheeses meats pasta lovingly produced. Recommend you book (we did) as lots of people were turned away as the restaurant was full, but this did not detract from the quality of the food or the service. A must visit restaurant if in Caernarfon!

We ate dinner here on a recent trip to the town. So pleased we found this place. I was talking about it for weeks afterwards. Just wish I’d done this review earlier. A lovely, tiny restaurant with a nice atmosphere and the proprietor is passionate about the food and explaining what’s what. My partner had a bruschetta to start with and then the pasta amatriciana. I had the vegetarian platter which was just wonderful, and included several wonderful cheeses, delicious bread bites and perfectly seasoned vegetable slices (among a number of other elements, all of which combined to provide what was for me the perfect flavour-balanced meal). I absolutely loved it. For dessert we had the trio of panna cotta and the dark chocolate cake. Please note this was back in May, so the menu may well have changed since then. Our host even humoured my attempts to speak Italian! Can’t praise it enough, highly recommended.

Booked a large table, restaurant communication was excellent confirming the reservation. We had a family table for 9 people with 4 kids.

Looks promising from the outside and it's a nice, small space inside too. Had lunch here. Had one of the specials, saffron pasta with bacon and peas, and a board for one person of meats, cheeses, bread and a bit of veg. If I'd cooked the pasta at home I'd have been perfectly happy with it, though I would have liked a bit more sauce. However, at about £13 a pop for pasta it should be something really special, it wasn't. Nothing wrong with it, though it could have been seasoned better, it was just way overpriced. £7/8 would have been a more reasonable price. Same goes for the 'just OK' board as well. Very small amounts of cheese, some decent meat but very average quality bread. £15 was again about £5 over a reasonable charge. Glass of wine and a bottle of Peroni to drink. So, nothing was wrong especially, though some things could have been better, it was just overpriced for what it was.

During a short early evening visit to Caernarfon we came across this restaurant. They were fully booked but we're able to give us a table for 1.5 hours. My husband and I shared a house platter which was amazing accompanied by a glass of wine. Desserts and coffee followed which were equally good. Would certainly recommend if you're in the area.

Great attention to detail. Tasty food. Interesting menu and wine list, pleasant surroundings...we'll be back.

We stopped in Caernarfon and just changed upon this place as so glad we did. We would highly recommend it. Very family friendly and the food can only be described as awesome plates of deliciousness. Or as my 7 year old described it ‘Heaven on a plate!’ Definitely worth visiting. Will be back again if I’m the area for definite. Only wish we lived closer. Many thanks to the staff for making us very welcome.

We just had our first visit to Osteria and can’t believe we left it so long to try.

This little immaculate restaurant is a real find. It’s the most authentic Italian I have found and I spend a lot of time in Italy. The house and vegetarian platters were delicious and the pasta was cooked on point. We enjoyed some great Pecorino wine from Cantina Tollo and the deserts were beautiful. The host was very helpful, polite and engaging. It will set you back a little bit in my view better to pay a little more for the real deal. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We went for dinner to the Osteria, because our host recommended to eat there. We went there spontaneously and we're lucky to get a table. The menu does not have lots of options which we like.

A lovely Tuscan restaurant and the hosts were friendly; nothing was too much trouble. Food was nice but I felt the menu was a bit limited as was the choice of Rose wine.

You think you know Cheesecake? You can have all sorts of fancy stuff and that, but this is the real thing. It is just proper lush. I cannot think of any other way to describe it. But you have to believe me, this it THE cheesecake. The bruschetta (yes I had to look that up) is definitive as well. Next time I will have bruschetta for starter and mains. It is that good. Not fancy, just really, really good.

This little Osteria tucked away at the top of a side street is well worth seeking-out. It's real, it's simple, it's excellent! The very enthusiastic and engaging Sergio really goes out of his way to ensure you enjoy your visit to the utmost. The mainly "Tuscan-influenced" menu is cleverly thought-out and delivered with an Italian flourish. This was probably the best Italian meal my wife and I have eaten for a long, long time.

Lovely little place, food and service both excellent. Fabulous bruschetta to start followed by proper Italian pasta where the pasta itself is the star of the show.

Una fantastica scoperta di un "angolino italiano" in una magica Caernarfon nel cuore del Galles!

A nice setting, the staff were very attentive and polite but the pasta main course was very bland. Pasta Strascicata with Bolognese Ragu and Bechamel suce had next to no meat, as good as no sauce and was completely tasteless. It was just like eating Penne pasta on it's own. What a disappointment as the reviews are generally good.

I came here for the first time yesterday, and it won’t be my last. The menu’s lovely - there isn’t a huge choice, but there’s a good choice, and along with their menu, there’s also a specials board. There’s a wide choice of bruschetta toppings, which I was thrilled with as bruschetta is my favourite Italian dish. You could choose one as a starter, or you could have a bruschetta board where you choose up to three toppings and receive six slices which is a main meal for one person or it can be shared as a starter or nibble between a group. There’s also a choice of antipasti, pasta and meat dishes. I chose the bruschetta board - 2 slices of jam and goats cheese, two slices of cheese and smoked salmon and two slices of cheese, honey and walnut bruschetta. They were all delicious, but my favourite was the honey, walnut and cheese topped bruschetta. I had a very nice red wine too. I can’t remember the namr of it, but it was number 11 on the wine list. The service was very friendly and I didn’t have to wait long for my food. Highly recommended. I will certainly be back the next time I’m in Caernarfon, which is likely to be in around 12 weeks or so.

My wife & I are frequent visitors to Italy and we both love authentic Italian food. It is sometimes difficult to find good Italian restaurants in UK but occasionally we stumble across something extra special. Osteria Caernarfon was really exceptional. The food was totally delicious, the service was first class and the atmosphere totally authentic. Sergio & his team made our visit a very special occasion. If you are looking for a really great treat in Caernarfon, don't hesitate to book a table here, you will not be disappointed.

One word ‘Amazing’!! So authentic if you like Italian dining. Not a huge choice for mains but enough if you’re looking for the best cooked pasta dish this side of Italy! Small intimate restaurant with a lovely ambience and family run. Can highly recommend. Booking a must as so small. Also the charcuterie starter is a MUST so delicately presented and gorgeous!! Well done Sergio that’s why we keep coming back

After booking a weekend break away in Caernarfon I had a look on TripAdvisor and saw this little gem with all the great reviews and decided to try it out myself. I'm so glad that I did.

Tasty starters and mains - simple food but well executed. Overall experience just let down by bought in deserts that were 'heavy' on the tummy and somehow not quite in tune with the lighter Mediterranean style of their own cooking

My wife and I ate at this restaurant recently. There are a few tables downstairs and a few more upstairs but it’s quite a small restaurant.

4 of us went for a meal. Again. Delicious food and very warm welcome. About 10 people turned away as fully booked. Good value and well worth visiting but you have to book in advance. Will be back soon.

If you're expecting a chain type Italian restaurant with an extensive menu then this is not the place for you. If you want cosy, intimate and a small menu done well, then you really have to visit Osteria. On a cold, blustery and wet night in Caernarfon we looked on Trip Adviser and were impressed with the reviews - plus, we were staying just around the corner and didn't have to venture too far away.

The food was absolutely delicious and we were offered a range of GF options. The service was lovely. Would highly recommend it to anyone and would definitely dine there again!

We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and it was wonderful. The good vibes started when I facebook messaged for a reservation and got a speedy and friendly response. When we got to the restaurant, the owner was so gracious and welcoming, and the waitress did a good job explaining the menu. We ordered the small capaccio plate and two arrabiata penne pasta dishes. We asked about having a ilttle meat added and the waitress suggested adding some bacon to the dish. I wanted a spicier version than my husband, so the owner offered to bring extra chili pepper to the table instead of having it added in the kitchen, and it worked great because I was able to get just the heat I wanted. All the food was fantastic. The carpaccio plate was imaginative, beautifully presented, and very tasty. The penne was al dente, perfectly cooked. And the sauce was delicious, flavorful without being overpowering or overly salty, the right consistency, and the bacon was a great addition because it added flavor and bulk. We were too full for dessert but I have no doubt they are as delicious as everything we tried.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and looked after really well. The sharing platter I would definitely recommend and the venison was exquisite. Lovely wine and the best coffee. Such a lovely little restaurant! Thank you!

Small, cozy place. Very friendly and welcoming host from Florence...great chat. The board for a starter to share was truly delicious. The pasta mains were superbly done...couldn't fault any of it. Will happily go once a week and recommend to all my friends and family.

Ate here 2 of the 4 nites spent in Caernarfon. I would never have guessed that in northern Wales there would be such a lovely Italian bistro...but was I mistaken. This restaurant is on a par with any Italian restaurant located in a major city. The starter plate with the selection of meats, cheeses, vegetables and breads could be a meal in and of itself. Really delicious as was the beef stew, pastas and desserts. Owner was very friendly and affable.

A lovely little Tuscan restaurant tucked away near the castle. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table upstairs, although there are a few tables on the ground floor if preferred. The menu had good choices and we chose a large sharing platter as our main course. A smaller sharing platter is also available to have as a starter. The menu had good choices, but don’t expect a huge menu as this is a genuine Tuscan restaurant and not one of the large Italian chains! The food served was excellent quality and a simple explanation of what it comprised was given. Well worth a visit.

This was a last minute selection on a very wet and windy night in September. The truth is if I had checked the menu before going I might have thought the menu was not for me and I would have been wrong. The restaurant which is tucked away in a side street near the castle does not have a large menu choice instead it concentrates on what it can do well. The restaurant is on two levels but is not large. It was a quiet night so we can only comment on the service that night which was excellent. I chose a Tuscan beef stew and my wife had the board with a choice of breads and cheeses both of which were excellent. Mine reminded me somewhat of a shredded beef meal we had in Miami in a Cuban restaurant. We both the Pancetta which again was excellent. Our bill on the night including drinks and coffee came to £55 with tip. I just wish this place was down on the south coast as that night a family on another table living within 20 miles of where we live also said they enjoyed their meal.

This place is a really small family run restaurant - certainly not a Pizza Express, Zizzi etc.

First visit but not our last.Service was first class helpful in going through the menu.Chose the house platter as a starter and it was very enjoyable,then the Tuscan beef stew was very tasty complimented with a bottle of superb red wine.Nice atmosphere as well.

Managed to book a table on our second attempt! The food, from the house special sharing platter to start, to the aubergine parmigiana, followed by panna cotta to finish, was all truly delicious. If you want the pizza and pasta that we have become accustomed to in this country you will probably think that this place is not great, but if you want authentic Tuscan cuisine then look no further. We were served by the lovely Abbey (sorry if I have misspelled your name) who is a great asset to this fabulous restaurant..

Delicious sounding items on the menu, incredibly difficult to pick just one. Service was amazing. Food delicious. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free for those who require. Absolute gem of a discovery, can't wait to go back

Had tried to get in before on our week in Caernafon but it was all booked. Were lucky on our last night, we were early but so glad we were able to get in. Lovely couple running things and so informative about the menu. Food was delicious and would recommend.

Saturday lunchtime visit. Very friendly and welcoming waitress explained what each dish comprised and what all the menu options were. We chose a platter to share. Service was quick, food was delicious, nicely presented with generous portions. Proprietor came and chatted. We are both new to Italian food other than your usual pizza etc. This was a new experience and a new venue to us which we will both visiting again. Highly recommended.

As soon as you walk in and are greeted you can tell this is a restaurant that prides themselves on making you feel welcome and at ease. The food is tasty and I suggest perfect for two or a small group. Sharing dishes is highly recommended.

A hidden gem of a place tucked away in a side lane close to Caernarfon Castle. Beautifully presented, generous portions, absolutely delicious food. Service was most attentive. One of our best meals whilst in Snowdonia this time.

I found this little gem on trip advisor and decided to check it out. It’s a little restaurant full of character, from the old stone walls to wooden windows and homely feel. The Italian gentleman who served me took his time to talk me through every option on the menu and answered any questions I had. Truly a delightful experience. I’d advise getting there early as it soon fills up. Will advise anyone visiting caernarfon to pop in for some lovely food and wine.

We had a great meal with a lovely host. Very tasty food and a good atmosphere. I'm only giving it a 4 as I think it was slightly over priced.

My daughter and I ate here last weekend. She had the aribiata, and they were kind enough to tone down the spice for her. I at a vegetarian plate that made me extremely happy. The wine recommendation was excellent as well. Wonderful restaurant

Came here for the last night of our holiday with our 2 kids and baby. The staff were so friendly and made us feel really welcome. The food is beautiful and very reasonably priced. The best Italian food I have tasted in a long time! An absolute must-visit, thankyou for a gorgeous meal and a very warm welcome :)

If you're in or around Caernarfon and want to really treat your taste buds look no further than Osteria. A select menu, brilliantly cooked and served with passion. We love Italian food however, Osteria just took it to the next level. You may get away with just arriving at the restaurant but, I advise that you book in advance... Enjoy! you won't be disapointed...

We loved this small place in Caernarfon, right next to the castle. It was elegant and the food was excellent. They were very flexible about gluten free options. Most incredibly, our two children, aged 13 and 4, both liked the pasta with cheese! They are very hard to please and usually don't like gourmet versions of toddler foods, but for this meal, all four of us were delighted with what we ate. The service was quick and the waiter was kind.

This is my favourite place to eat and it never fails to disappoint. Simple, delicious food with lovely wines and bubbly. Will be back soon.

We took a recommendation from our B&B; so knew where to look - but it is one of those places that can easily be missed by just glancing down the street and not bothering to walk down, Hole in the Wall Street actually has few places worth investigating ...

I was taken to this little gem of a restaurant by my partner and family for my birthday this weekend, lovely staff (the owner is friendly and welcoming). The food was above and beyond (have the sharing platter for starters and you will not be disappointed.

Lovely restaurant with seating upstairs as well as downstairs. The staff look after you and talk you through the menu and daily specials. There are limited vegetarian options however the food is superb. Loved the vegetarian platter. Am definitely returning back during my next Caernarfon trip.

Me and the other half were staying in Caernarfon for a couple of days and having scanned the reviews on TA, we plumped for Osteria, well what good fortune, we arrived with no reservation and were greeted by the owner, who advised he had a table for two upstairs, the place is tiny with probably fewer than two dozen covers both upstairs and down, fortunately we snagged a table next to an open window that afforded a gentle breeze, the days having been in the upper 20’s C for the past week.

Eating here briught back wonderful memories of eating and staying in Tuscany many years ago. Authentic Tuscan food.........did not expect to find that in North Wales!

A friend and I had waited a long time to go to this restaurant, and at last the opportunity arose, and we were both free.

Osteria got recommended to us by the hotel owner that we were staying with so rang to book a table. On arrival greeted by the owner who made is very welcome, took our drinks order and talked us through his menu. Menu uncomplicated and whilst the number of dishes available is quite small compared to others is supported by specials and our experience was all very well cooked extremely tasty and well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal the wine the atmosphere and attentive staff. Possibly one of the best Italian meals ever, can't recommend enough!

Staying in the flat next door to this charming restaurant meant a visit was a must. We were unable to get a table on the off chance so booked for the next evening.

Called in by off chance and was e freely impressed. Small but cosy atmosphere. Food was varied and tasted superb. We would definitely recommend.

We had been out and about for the day .. so we were looking for a place to eat, checked Trip advisor and this one came up in the top 5 for Caernarfon.

Food was excellent- authentic Italian. This is a small spot- so although the menu was not huge- it was larger than I would have expected (duck was wonderful). Traveling with a vegetarian - this was a great spot.

A lovely restaurant specialising in Tuscan food. The menu may at first seem a little limited but do not worry as everything is delicious. The sharing platters of meat and cheeses were extremely good as were the main course specials of Tuscan lamb stew and pasta with a duck sauce. Grappa and Vin Santo completed a wonderful meal. Highly recommended

Great little Italian, The Tagliere Osteria (House Platter) was amazing. Really friendly waiter, all of us had a great main course and dessert too. Defiantly would recommend and would go again.

Such a lovely little restaurant. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the food. The Osteria platter for one was a good starter for my husband and I to share before we each had different pasta dishes for main. Everything was so simple but that was the beauty of it - simple yet effective. Lovely place to finish our little Welsh mini break!

Well what an experience! Even though the menu was quite minimal......What we got was delicious. The Waiter was a true gentleman and ready to assist and adjust content....Felt like I was back in Italy (Belagio came to mind) rather than Caernarfon!! Truly a hidden rustic gem of a place and experience!!

Walked in off the street and enjoyed an evening with great food and friendly service. With a great explanation of all the food. Highly recommended the house platter, Delecious!

Visited as a family of 4, 2 adults, 2 teenagers. Although menu is limited, everyone, including vegetarian and fussy teenager found something to their taste. Portions are not large, but they satisfied us. If you are looking to fill your belly with heavy Italian comfort food, this place will disappoint, but if you are looking to sample the simple, delicious flavours of Italy, you’re in for a treat.

While in North Wales for a relaxing Easter weekend away, we chanced upon this little slice of Tuscany in Caernarfon...and it felt like we'd struck gold. Osteria offers the most delicious and authentic food, a warm atmosphere and the most friendly host in Sergio. If you're anywhere near the town and fancy some wholesome Italian food, you can't go wrong with Osteria...but recommend booking so you don't miss out (this little place is rightly very popular!)
