Oregano at the Eagle Lodge in East Dunbartonshire

Wish we had read the reviews for this restaurant before eating here but I’m afraid The Oregano restaurant is in need of some decent management. There were five of us dining and we were placed at a table so near the disabled toilets that we could see right into the toilet when the door was opened……not exactly a view you expect or want when dining. Our main issue however was the time that we had to wait for our main meal- almost one and a half hours. We did check with the young waiter ( who was very polite and respectful) if our food would be coming soon and he did check for us as requested. When the food eventually arrived, the soup that my elderly mother had waited patiently for was stone cold and had to be returned. No excuses for this as many tables around us were empty and only a few tables in the Glasshouse were occupied- so it certainly didn’t look busy. We didn’t order deserts as we couldn’t face the wait again. Such a poor experience and this spoiled a birthday celebration for us. When people are paying to dine they deserve a much better service. When the bill came we had been charged almost £18 extra for drinks that we didn’t have. On speaking to the manager he resolved the bill issue but initially tried to lay the blame for the extensive wait on the young waiter ( who had been exemplary ) and then tried to justify the hour and a half wait as though it was acceptable. He did say that they they would review it in a staff debrief at the end of the night but my guess from reading previous reviews is that nothing will change. The Eagle Lodge seems to do ok in catering for weddings and perhaps they put much of their resource into this…….but I don’t see how the restaurant can survive if they continue to treat customers like this. Given the number of poor reviews on this site alone- management need to take responsibility.

I'm sad to say I will not return. Manager was extremely rude when I returned the veg soup due to it tasting like chicken. I stress I hadn't done so with complaint just didn't want to eat it. The waitress said it'd be no problem and I wouldn't be charged but then the Manager wanted to turn the whole thing into a drama. We left and didn't wait for the mains for fear of what they might do to it.

Visited for the first time and now ready to become a regular. The food was absolutely outstanding. Both myself and my husband thought it was the best steak pie we have ever had - and considering the number we have eaten over the years, that is a big compliment! I’m still waiting for someone to chase us out the door saying there has been a mistake with the bill as we had 2 courses for only £12 (lunch mid week)!!! Haggis Bon Bons, Korean chicken, and two steak pies all massive portions for £24! I can’t buy the amount of food and quality from a supermarket to cook at home for this price so we will be making this a regular mid week stop. Staff were very pleasant, lovely decor, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Very happy customers indeed!

First time at oregano in a long time since moving away from the area. Food was excellent, great value at £12 for 2 courses lunch menu. Service was fantastic considering only 2 servers on. Will definitely be back and recommending to others!

Had the best meal tonight staff were lovely fish was excellent iv been out in other places lately and some have been awful i wont name the places but not that far from here .... this is the best meal out iv had in ages will be back soon !!

A WONDERFUL Christmas lunch for 45 disabled pensioners. Great atmosphere, delicious food, good range of drink and all served by cheerful, helpful and considerate staff. I would have give ten stars if I could. Thank you to the Eagle Lodge.

Disappointed in overall experience. My friends and I were at the oregano for an afternoon tea. When the servers took our orders, they had to be asked and prompted to tell us what kind of teas they had. There was no menu for an afternoon tea on the table, a tray of about 12 quarter sandwiches and some food was put on our table with no one going through what we were to expect from the oregano’s afternoon tea (no explanation of cakes or tea/ coffee refills). The food was not enough for the 5 of us. Once we started, the teas were brought out and the pots were filled halfway, so two of us asked for more water. When the server was taking the pots away, she spilled hot water on my hand. I reacted and her response was “that happens when the pot is filled”. No apology. We had to point out that an apology should be the first thing offered. We spoke to the manager about our issues, he apologised on behalf of the server but didn’t go any further, he said that the menu was online expecting that we take out our phones to look it up … this is a “sample menu ”. When the time came for the bill, there was no indication of compensation of the poor service and only took a glass of wine off the bill. We were still charged full price. On our way out, we spoke to the owner who assured us he would be in touch after explaining our displeasure and disappointment. This was 3 days ago. Don’t expect much when you visit here.

Wide choice on the lunchtime menu. Service was excellent, I chose the food from the lunchtime menu but the a la carte menu was also available. Very pleased with my meal.

Lovely place for families get together ❤️

A very average meal. Family group of 4 adults found the food disappointing. Haven’t eaten in Oregano for a couple of years and unlikely to return after a poor meal in an under-heated restaurant. The restaurant itself is nice, the glasshouse is a lovely place to dine but in November really requires more than a single bar heater at the entrance. I was sat next to a large radiator which was barely warm. We mentioned to staff that we were cold which was met with little interest. The restaurant was very quiet on the evening we dined. The Bruschetta starter was very poor, barely a scrapping of tomato, covered in rocket possibly to disguise the lack of tomato. The chicken Milanese also poor - thick, dry and bland. The chocolate sundae looked nice but actually had very little in the dish other than cream and not the ingredients mentioned on the menu. Same with the apple and blackberry crumble. Nice custard, sparse crumble, plenty apple but no blackberry. Really disappointing. Is this why the restaurant was so quiet?

My wife has rheumatoid arthritis which leaves her very disabled. At our friend's 90th birthday high tea today She asked the senior waiter for a fork, he said,"No, it's a finger buffet". She said, "I need a fork to get the food up to my mouth". He walked away shaking his head and again said, "Nooooo". He really upset my wife.

I attended a 40th birthday party here. Hadn’t been before but I’d definitely return as the service was so great. Don’t usually leave reviews ever but got looked after by a boy I think was called Jude and he was very friendly and attentive. Made me and my friends experience much more enjoyable when served with a smile. Top marks Jude!

We held our wedding at The Eagle Lodge back in September 2023 and it was a fantastic day. We held our ceremony in the Rotunda Suite for 25 guests and then had our evening reception in the Antonine Suite. The day was first class with Peter and his team taking care of us throughout the day. It was stress free and went off without a hitch. We have memories to cherish and would recommend if you are looking for a versatile venue.

We held my parents' Diamond Dinner at the Eagle Lodge recently and had a wonderful evening. The food was great, the room we hired (the Rotunda Suite) was beautifully appointed and the staff were wonderful. Top marks to Tommy, Zoe and Jude who looked after us on the night and to Peter who oversaw the whole thing, as well as to Julie, the Events Manager, who set everything in place for us before the event. I can't praise the team highly enough, and we are so grateful to them all. Compliments too to the chef and his team, who cooked and served a delicious 3 course meal, and made no fuss about the delays in proceedings that we asked them to build in so that we could intersperse the meal with various speeches and activities. From prosecco reception at the beginning of the evening to coffee and cake at the end, everything ran like clockwork and made for a very special evening where lots of memories were made. Thank you, Eagle Lodge team!

Popped into Bishopbriggs to try this place as friend said she used to come here a lot, but the food was average and quite pricey. Service was slow but it’s a beautiful building and the interior is nice.

I've been to Eagle Lodge around 10 times in the last few years. It'd always been pretty good to be honest. Consistent would be the work I'd use, you always know what to expect and what you're getting. But the last two times I've been in the last 3 or 4 months it's not been good. I expect the preparation of the food to change depending on who's making it, but the Highlander pizza was bad this time. Big chunks of toppings that were only partially cooked, spicy chips that had no toppings other than the seasoning, chicken pakora that just smelled more like a dirty chip pan that pakora and the irroco pasta just tasted like theyd poured half the olive water in to the dish. It was dead when we went in, Monday night and it was my party of four at half 5 at night. Not a good sign for a restaurant but a sign that the quality of food is just your typical passionless fare. I honestly had to Google to see if they'd been bought over by a weatherspoons or something

Myself and partner booked in with the eagle Lodge to host our wedding and reception, all the staff from organising the event and hosting were top class, couldn't fault the experience. Everyone who attended had a great day and night, thanks to all the staff who made our special day brilliant.

I went to my sisters wedding at the Eagle lodge it is a beautiful place the food they put out was so good and all round a really great place the staff were so nice was an amazing day thanks to all the staff

Choice of seating here, we sat in the Glasshouse which is a huge glass conservatory, feeling very airy and light. However, worth nothing that it (obviously) gets warm when the sun comes out although there is also an outside terrace with umbrella. Food menu has a cheaper afternoon option to 1600 as well as a full menu. The three of us had a selection of starters and the antipasti sharing platter and left feeling very full, probably because 2 of us also squeezed in pudding 🤫 Service was friendly and attentive. Price of £35 per head (without drinks) although we'll not need to eat anything else today!

Attended a 60th birthday party in the large function room excellent facilities and staff.

Just ok for 2 course lunch menu, nothing more and pricey too with limited and basic choice, been loads of times in past but on todays visit, would not hurry back. If you want to add a meat to either mac cheese/basic pizza, its an add on. Prices for two course lunch are dearer than on their website and drinks prices, two drinks (bottle of coke charged additionally) for £13 are just nonsense. Thats town prices, not here. Server was nice though.

If i could give 0 stars i would....Arrogant, obnoxious owners who bragged about having a £5million business but refused to give me a refund of a few hundred pounds for a cancelled function despite me being a loyal customer for many years who has brought many ££s of business to them. So if anybody is considering booking a function with them make sure you get their terms and conditions in writing first and pay by credit card to give you protection as they will not abide by Scots law or contract law.

Was here today what ana amazing team of people and an amazing manager. Went in today with someone I supported and they became very distressed and vocal, but the manager and staff were very very supportive and offered words of reassurance, which made me feel so much calmer. The food was absolutely delicious and service was great. The brioche starter and club sandwich was absolutely delicious and an excellent lunchtime deal. Will definitely be back here again, with the family nxt time 😂

We had our wedding at Eagle Lodge, Bishopbriggs on 1st April 2023. Peter, Jessica, Andy, Tommy and staff were amazing as was the venue. On lead up to our wedding we were in continuous contact with them and Jessica always responded to emails. We couldn’t believe how lovely the Antonine Suite looked during the ceremony and after that they turned it round very quickly to have it looking equally as stunning for our meal. Food was excellent as was the service. Piper they provided was fabulous, as was the DJ in the evening. We loved that they left the buffet out all night so guests could pick away at it when hungry. All in all we had an amazing day and can’t thank the venue and staff enough for making it so special. Margo and Andy

Dropped in for some lunch with some friends and we were kindly welcomed by the manager. We were offered a great table within the glasshouse and drinks after ordered were served quickly. A lot to choose from the food menu and a great 3 course offer. Nothing was a problem for the staff. Food was superb. Great surroundings and the manger and other staff member were great with us all. Will definitely go back. I would advise to book ahead and catch a lovely table.

Having visited here on many occasions, todays service was shocking, arrived and the manager who met us had the attitude of he just did not want to be there, waited a good 20 mins for our order to be taken then another 45 mins to get our food, now I wouldn’t have accepted that if they had been busy, however you were lucky if there was a hand full of tables taken. We did complain to the manager however again he was not bothered, if someone had come and said sorry your order is taking so long, then we would have accepted.

We held our daughter's 21st Birthday party at the Eagle Lodge and are so happy we did. From the first email to the last taxi the experience was second to none. Peter and his staff went over and above to ensure that the night went smoothly and successfully. Considering there were other large events and a full restaurant on the evening, the meal was spectacular, every one of our guests raved about it. I can't thank Peter, Jessica, Tommy and all the staff enough for making this special event a great memory for all to cherish. Wishing you all success in the future.

Unfortunately we had a terrible visit on Wednesday 21st Dec at 1pm. The service was incredibly slow. One of our party had to wait for their starter as it had been given to another table! When I checked that I was being given the gluten free bruscheta the server said "I think so". Not very safe and obviously training of stsff required. 2 of us ordered steaks and were not given steak knives. My steak did not have peppercorn sauce at first so was sent back as they needed to make the gluten free sauce. I had asked for my steak medium but arrived tough as old boots and I could not eat it. I was eventually served another (which was still well done not medium) when the rest of the table had finished eating and I had to ask the server to check where my food was. No empty, used glasses were cleared from our table at any point. We then received the bill at the end which was completely wrong and we were overcharged. When I asked to have this rectified rather than sorting the mistakes they just removed the charge for 1 drink. When I pointed out this was still not correct they just removed another drink from the bill. Very disappointing. Will not be back.

A warm bright clean modern and very friendly conservatory style eateries. A decent menu, comfy seats and tables, spotless loos and attentive waiting staff. Obviously a popular spot for locals as it was well if not completely filled filled over a week day lunch time. It adjoins an indoor dining area for those who prefer that. This is a review for fellow restaurant Garvie &Co in Milngavie Tonight my experience were unsatisfying. The premises were empting in bar area I were in company of friend where we ordered lattes x 2 rounds. I noticed scones on you counter covered. Plenty there accompanied by red velvet cake covered When I asked to purchase a scone, I were advised there are none they are put away. Now, as far as aware my eye sight is fine..There were scones, as my friend used her eye sight to confirm As I were concerned I needed to visit spec savers If those scenes were brick hard they should not be on display or geated up to soften It were a shame as I were hungry

I pay about £35 for a starter and main with two glasses of wine. Despite how pleasant the staff were, I might as well have been in a greasy spoon spending a tenner for the quality of service and attention I got from the Eagle Lodge

We hired the function room for after a funeral on Tuesday. They only had 2 staff on for 100+ people. The bar was shut after just over and hour so these 2 staff could serve the food, it did no reopen. The buffet was set out after about 2&1/2 - 3 hours with freezing food, you could smash a window with the rock solid sausage rolls. We were then told we couldn't even use the downstairs bar to bring up drinks nor were we allowed to sit downstairs. I would highly recommend NEVER EVER booking anything in this place, it is a total joke.

Was there for a funeral. Staff all very nice but service very slow. One of the draught beers went off, so limited to Tennants! Quite a wait between soup & them setting up buffet. Food was good.

Worst dining experience we have had. Service really poor and overcharging customers as they make parties over 10 people order from the celebration menu which works out more expensive than “a la carte” menu for the exact same food. Staff didn’t understand the concept of a surprise cake as they unwrapped the cake right in front of the recipient and proceeded to put 1 candle on it from full packet they were given and lit it when they put the cake in front of them. Was very awkward. Email of complaint was sent and no reply ever given. Disappointing as the food was actually not bad. Will never return though as seems a poorly run place.

Walked into the reception area and my wife said to the manager excuse me and he looked at her and walked past completely ignoring her, came back 2 mins later and said he’ll be a couple of mins. My wife asked for a pink gin and lemonade and I just a glass of lemonade, they brought a pint of lemonade and a normal gin instead of the pink. Waited about 15 mins for the drinks. Asked for the bill and waited ages for that too! Not a good experience, will not be back.

Was a bit sceptical due to reviews. Had the Sunday lunch fixed menu & all 13 of us all enjoyed. Between us - fish was excellent, pasta a bit spicy but lovely, roast dinner was brilliant. Staff wonderful and this visit has restored confidence to visit again.

Can't book outside terrace even though the restaurant allows dogs there, so if you turn up for an evening meal and there are no seats outside, you just have to turn about and go home ☹️ have visited here for years and I totally appreciate it is not a place for dogs inside but cant quite understand why you can book for indoors but not outdoors

Nice and peaceful place to have dinner. Good menu although they do like adding chilli to a lot of things so a bit more variety rather than chilli something with everything. When that's your only complaint though it's pretty good. Staff were attentive but not in your face and were all very pleasant. The fajitas were delicious and the coffee was particularly kick and smooth as an after dinner coffee. Would definitely go again.

Following my conversation this morning with manager Tommy, I’ve now written the money off. Service was awfully slow, sides that were meant to be part of the main meals had to be chased as didnt come, no baby chair offered, tables where we were sat were unsuitable & lost count how many times people knocked their knees off the tables. Management not chasing up complaints has left a bad taste & none of our party of 17 will be returning under current management.
