Ordered an Ondine at Home for my lockdown birthday meal, and it was absolutely brilliant - couldn’t recommend more! What we liked was that you could choose what you wanted to order, and how much, which a lot of other restaurants’ at home menus don’t offer. We had half a dozen oysters, crab crumpets, whole lobster and a lobster thermidor (& also made up some chips to go with). Everything was very well presented and super easy to prepare. Fantastic special meal to enjoy during lockdown.

Despite the continuing Rules and Regulations with regard to Covid, Ondine have managed to give their customers a near ‘normal’ experience.Super Staff lead by Craig and the most amazing ingredients for all dishes really do make one’s visit worthwhile.Amazing Oyster and Lobster chosen today and a wicked Treacle Tart! We ordered home delivery, and it was superb. Delicious salmon pate, fish pie, full of fish and shellfish, then apple tart and custard, all washed down with bottle of Chardonnay! It was the set menu, but individual dishes can be ordered. Good value, as enough fish pie for next day!

Our tour of Edinburgh’s at home offerings brought us to Ondine last weekend. Ordering was straightforward and the restaurant gave us a wee phone on Sat morning just to confirm collection details. We went for oysters - delicious, with a tart wee vinaigrette on the side. Soup was up next, lovely bouillabaisse style soup - one pot would be enough to share between two. We followed up with lobster which was beautifully prepared and just needed 8 mins in oven or grill then finished with pavlova (me) and treacle tart (partner) - the pavlova was good but I definitely had a spot of dinner envy when I nicked a bit of the treacle tart. The cooking instructions were clear but be aware you will need to add some accompaniments at least to the dishes we had. We had a bit of fresh bread with oysters and soup and some chips with the lobster. It’s a shame we can’t eat out as normal but we had a great meal and by doing this sort of thing you’re supporting the hospitality industry and their entire supply chain as well. If only they could send some round to sort out the mess we had made of our kitchen, it would be perfect!

No puedo hablar maravillas de la comida y el servicio en ondine. Hemos visitado algunos lugares durante las restricciones de la pandemia y este fue, con mucho, el servicio más organizado y en funcionamiento que hemos experimentado. ¡Además de eso, la comida era increíble y algunos de los mejores platos que hemos probado! Normalmente no elegiría un risotto, ya que pueden ser bastante aburridos, pero este risotto de cangrejo marrón y nueces fue una de las mezclas de sabores más interesantes. La combinación de un servicio excelente y una comida increíble hizo que la velada se disfrutara completamente. Gracias Ondine

Primero los aspectos positivos: el personal es muy bueno, acogedor y eficiente. La sopa de pescado estaba deliciosa y el pescado principal estaba bien preparado. Sin embargo, me decepcionó el restaurante. Las reseñas habían aumentado mis expectativas, pero la experiencia no estuvo a la altura. ¿Por qué? El menú es extremadamente limitado y caro. El halibut solo venía con puré de espinacas y salsa holandesa. Ninguno de los purés realmente complementaba el pescado. La holandesa debería ir bien, pero esta era bastante avinagrada y, un odio de mi mascota, los lados se cobraron extra. Acabo de regresar de un almuerzo increíble en Ondine. Fue tan bueno estar de regreso y sentirse completamente a gusto con las precauciones de salud necesarias, ninguna de las cuales restó valor a una súper experiencia. Vinimos aquí un viernes por la noche y tuvimos una buena comida. Nuestro camarero fue muy amable y atento y la comida llegó a un ritmo agradable y relajado.Tuve la sopa de pescado y marisco para empezar y estaba delicioso. Mi plato principal era el rape con pasta satay de maní. y aunque el pescado estaba perfectamente cocido, estaba tan salado que no pude terminarlo, lo cual fue una verdadera lástima, ya que podría haber sido tan sabroso. Mi novio sintió que el entrante de calamar también estaba un poco salado, pero su Thermidor de langosta era increíble.Lamentablemente, estábamos demasiado llenos para el postre o el café. 2 platos cada uno, una copa de efervescencia y una copa grande de vino cada uno llevó la cuenta a 140 sin contar la propina.

First date night since lockdown and couldn’t have picked a better venue than our favourite Ondine. Fell very safe, hygiene immaculate as usual with extra sanitisation and distancing in excess of current guidelines. Staff full smiles and very welcoming. Food exceptional and up to the usual ondine standard. Couldn’t fault anything and can’t wait to return. Anyone who knows me will appreciate that I am very particular about where I dine, in particular when it comes to seafood. Ondine does not disappoint. Huge succulent prawns with wild garlic &curry, and delicately flavoured turmeric rice. Without a shadow of doubt, the freshest seafood you will find. Me and my girlfriend came for our anniversary dinner (04/03) After reading many good reviews our expectations were very high, unfortunately we had a very satisfactory meal. we ordered the large hot shell platter to share and two portions of chips and a bottle of wine, everything was ok but the prices were extortionate for a standard restaurant. We left hungry and feeling ‘robbed’. We will not be returning to this establishment, the staff seemed very tense and stressed and I must add before leaving I used the restroom, to my horror i could hear the chefs screaming and swearing at one another through the bathroom walls. Disgusting.We have recently dined at ‘the ship on the shore’ and ‘cadiz’ and I can say the quality of the fish/seafood is exceptional and the portions are much bigger. There are far better places to dine in Edinburgh.

Staff were very stressed, we did not feel welcomed and had trouble getting their attention the and we even had to give up on ordering a second glass of wine. It was slightly difficult to understand the menu, as most dishes seemed to contain only a piece of fish or seafood and were not a 'complete ' main course despite rather high prices. E.g. the "scallops" which costed about 25 Pounds were just 2 pieces of scallops.However, we ended upp ordering some fish, with side orders of spinach, and it was all delicious. And the food came in very quickly after our order. So overall, the experience was ok, although I had expected much more and was rather disappointed to be honest.

Fuimos aquí con altas expectativas ya que las críticas en general son buenas, la comida definitivamente es muy buena, todos los cursos estaban bien presentados, muy bien cocinados y muy sabrosos.En general, es un buen lugar para ir, un par de cosas que lo decepcionaron fue la lista de vinos: pedimos un Malbec de la lista completa que era realmente débil y claramente enmascarado en esa lista, lo devolvimos y nos quedamos con cerveza y prosecco.Mi mascota odia: el temido cargo por servicio agregado de serie, los camareros son realmente agradables, pero esto es un puro conseguir los platos en las mesas y volver a llevarlos, nada especial al respecto que garantiza pagar extra para que traigan su plato a su mesa.¡Solo aumente sus precios en un 10%!Disfrutamos de la cena, una buena relación calidad-precio, pero no estoy seguro de que me apresuraría a volver después de haberlo hecho, pero nada memorable.

Había querido comer aquí por un tiempo, ya que había escuchado cosas buenas al respecto a lo largo de los años, así que finalmente decidí una comida de cumpleaños. Por desgracia, era mediocre y muy caro. En primer lugar, tuvimos que pedir los menús de almuerzo a precio fijo, no fueron voluntarios. Luego el agua del grifo se vertió en pequeños vasos. Tuvimos que pedir una jarra que llegara tibia sin hielo ni esfuerzo. La sopa de mariscos no era excelente ya que era demasiado picante destruyendo el sabor del pescado. Pedí suela de limón. Esto llegó como un trozo de pescado solo en el plato sin siquiera una guarnición, ¡por 30! El crédito al restaurante que golpearon algo de la factura cuando vieron que no estábamos contentos. Pero en general no valía la pena el precio. Hay muchos mejores lugares para comer mariscos en Edimburgo.

Realmente no me gusta el pescado, pero estoy tratando de ser un "adulto" a los 52. . . ! Tuve el queso de cabra batido (Devine) y bacalao con dhal que estaba delicioso! Podríamos habernos saltado el pud pero no pudimos resistir la mousse de chocolate cubierta con panal. Nuestro anfitrión es 102 y el ascensor es perfecto para él. También hay una parada de taxis justo en la puerta principal. Es mi nuevo lugar favorito.

Der Bezug zum Meer ist im Namen gegeben, deshalb wählte ich als Vorspeise Ceviche Oysters, eine köstliche Erfahrung. Als Hauptgang mundete der Seeteufel auf Dahl und Spinat ausgezeichnet. Das Personal war aufmerksam, kompetent (Informationen über Herkunft der Austern, Charakteristik der Weine). Die Erwartungen an ein Pretheatre Dinner (im Webauftritt erwähnt) wurden erfüllt. Der Weg zum Opernhaus war in knappen 10 min zu bewältigen.

We have eaten here before and it was very good, last night four of us had dinner, the service and food was excellent couldn't fault anything, however, I must agree with other comments that some of the prices are outrageous. If you click through to the menu you will see that scallops as a starter are priced at £13.50 but in the restaurant they are £18 also the squid is £15 instead of £13.50--the scallop starter was tiny and in no way worth £18. However, as I said all the food was good and service was great but be prepared for the prices especially as they add 10% to the bill--would I return? Yes

Overpriced for quality of food. We got sat in a corner near the kitchen door and bar. Despite the amount of staff walking past the service was poor. One guy seemed to serve us but also serve behind the bar. I had the Tempura squid to start was a tiny portion and over powered with lime. Ordered the seafood tower which arrived more as a bowl of seafood. Half a lobster, Half a small crab, mussells and clams and a couple of gritty oysters. This was£90.00 had a tower at Ship on the shore the following night with at least twice the amount of seafood. Very dissapointed and restaurant needs to organise service better and portion sizes.

Pretentious sense of self importance. Empty restaurant couldn’t get the table we wanted, table never occupied. 30 mins to get wine an hour to get dinner in an empty place. Food above average but very expensive. Thin menu. Highly over rated. One and done. Required credit card for reservation even tho reservation wasn’t needed. £40 if you don’t show up. Done.

We went here to celebrate my 50th birthday. I wasnt too enamoured with the decor but the food was lovely. We had tempura squid and soup as starters. The squid was delicate and light with a superb dipping sauce. The soup was complex and lovely and came with croutons cheese and rouille. The cheese didnt do much for me but all else was super. As main dish we shared a roasted seafood platter. This was fab but at the end there was a lot of the broth left which i started slurping from a mussle shell until i decided to order bread for mopping it up. The chips were good but too few. The seafood platter itself was great though. Dessert was also nice as was a White wine from the Abruzzi. I had a glass of Caol Ila single malt to finish and paid 216.-. All in all a fab meal!

Was so looking forward to this visit; talk about a let down! This was a special treat from our dearest friend but quite frankly I feel very embarrassed that she was ripped off. Firstly the wine we really wanted was not available. Surprising that a restaurant of this supposed 'calibre' didn't have it in stock despite being on their not too extensive but seriously expensive wine list. Plumped for another which was acceptable but a pretty poor second choice and overpriced considering the quality. That's the biggest fault actually with this establishment - pricing. Fish soup came warm and was not the best at £10, the oysters were tasty but then they should be at £18 for 6. Tempura squid was ok but small portion for £14. Main courses, what can I say. £18 for battered haddock, chips and pea puree. This was actually very good and enjoyed. Success almost. Short lived. Two of us ordered the cod with bouillabaisse and whipped cod roe at £28 a pop. In fact you could have popped the whole portion in a couple of chunks given the surprising and quite insulting smallness of it. If it was sensational and out of the ordinary that would have compensated somewhat but eh no, it was a piece of cod. Interesting that the picture of plate of cod on the restaurant website appears to be considerably generous in its proportions. Maybe the photographer was influenced by Lewis Carrol. The sides of a small portion of chips £6 and the baked cabbage at £8 were tasty but what is the profit margin I ask? The second bottle of wine at £40 was run of the mill and the Frangelico must have been served from a pipette. My friends and I consider ourselves to be foodies and enjoy visiting different establishments and are delighted to support local businesses. What we don't delight in is being taken for mugs. We couldn't even get ice in the water jug, it came in a separate glass. Sorry`??? Disappointing in the extreme, galling in its under achievement and mesmerising in its mediocrity. Epitomises Auld Reekie though - all fur coat and nae knickers.

Yesterday, along with three friends, I ate lunch at Ondine. This is by no means our first visit, but the great food gets us back regularly. New this January was a "short" menu, the idea being that people choose several dishes. Three of us began with an excellent chowder, all four of us enjoyed the turbot with hollandaise sauce, and three finished with gorgonzola, honey, walnuts and tiny oatcakes. A delicious and beautifully presented meal. The flavours and presentation were excellent. I hope that the short menu continues. A very enjoyable lunch.

This is a lovely restaurant but the food is a big let down. I didn’t have a starter as there wasn’t anything that really took my fancy. My wife had the fish soup which was too spicy/hot and she had to leave it . I ordered fish & chips for my main and was hugely disappointed. The fish was a good size and the batter was nice and crispy on the outside. It was advertised as Haddock but when I cut it open the batter it had about half an inch of gooey batter mix on the inside (top & bottom) and the fish was so thin I thought it was plaice. The fish wasn’t served with chips either ? They were french fries! £18 for that was an absolute joke and I would have complained if my wife would have let me but she would have been embarrassed.

We had a birthday meal for my husband with a couple of friends. The staff welcomed us warmly and were very helpful in assisting with our wine orders. The menu has an excellent choice of seafood with alternatives if you prefer. All our orders came with sides. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. When they found out it was my husband's birthday, a decorated plate with chocolates arrived. The staff were very attentive and we all enjoyed a great evening.

Dinner seemed ok for me but my wife said she didn't feel right straight after she had eaten her main and was sick all night. I politely emailed the restaurant to let them know but didn't hear back, followed up again a couple of weeks after and still nothing back. Appreciate these things happen and for a variety of reasons but to not respond and have so little care or concern is unprofessional and disappointing.

Two starters, tempura squid, pretty good but not exceptional and goats cheese and beetroot, pleasant. Two monkfish curries for mains, good flavours but possibly slightly overcooked fish. One dessert one whiskey, bottle of wine £160+ bill. My opinion overall is of a well respected restaurant somewhat resting on its laurels. Slightly shabby glitzy interior combined with appalling music competing with loud conversation is not remotely relaxing. It just all feels a bit like they don't have to try too hard to attract customers. It's always going to be busy. I've been fair with a 3 star rating but we won't be back next time. Pleased for the experience but many other places to try!

Attended for lunch for a special occasion two weeks ago. Met by a glum/sad maitre d’ who looked so miserable in his job. The waitress consistently disappeared half way through our drinks orders and generally made us all feel as. If we were an inconvenience. We had to flag staff down for service all the way through, in particular we had to ask for finger bowls for the mussels main courses (in a seafood restaurant?).

I booked this for New Years Eve about two months ago and was warned they wanted the table back by 10.30 which was fine. Then today they phoned to say it would be a set menu for £150 per person including a glass of champagne. Needless to say I have cancelled the booking. When did restaurants start to order customers around in such a high handed manner? And how can they justify changing the terms of a booking contract? This place needs to realise that people will not tolerate being bullied - it is after all only food they are offering and there are plenty more better restaurants in Edinburgh.

Just arrived in Edinburgh and wanted lunch. Our driver told us about Ondine. Our conceirge called up and was able to get us a table right away. The decore is modern and clean. Our welcome was friendly. Our coats taken straight away. We were given a great table right at the window that looked out to the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile. We had Thai Squid as a starter, YUMMY. Hubs had monk fish with a delicate curry sauce and some spicy rice. I had a classic butter sole. The addition of micro shrimp to the sole was unecessary. The spinach and mash potatoes we had as sides were flawless. Service was good but a little odd. The restaurant was reletively quiet as it was 1:30 but we had three folks that serviced our table. All very friendly. It is a very pricey place but a great start to our four day adventure. We did not ordr drinks but they had a wonderful bar and wine list.

You can have a real value lunch here or go all out with the A La Carte and this was a treat so happy to say the ALC is fantastic, lovely food and wine an will return. Staff happy to offer advice on wine pairing and they are have a knack of leaving you alone when required but know when to look after you. Will be happy to go back.

excellent lunch menu, great produce and flavor, also acceptable in price. Seafood specialty not really noticed as choice of seafood rather limited. wine list impressive, location good and modern, slightly too cold to sit with the airco on full steam (it was only 7 degrees outside).

Returned to Ondine, one of our favourite seafood restaurants in Edinburgh. Good food, good wine list, a bit pricey, service can be slow but still worth a try. Our biggest issue would be inconsistency with the food. One day the lobster is massive, the next it's tiny. One day the sole is perfect, next time it's overdone. Not what you expect at this price point

The food was fabulous but the service was poor, surprisingly so. The waiter was inattentive and seemingly uninterested in providing the most basic of services e.g. clearing dishes, bringing drinks before meal was finished. We were frustrated as we really enjoyed our meal and the young lady who greeted us and took our jackets was lovely.

Amazing service and the platter was so worth it. The amount is plenty for two and you will both be full. The beet salad and the fish soup were also wonderful starters. Go hungry because you will leave full!!!!

Ondine is one of the best seafood restaurant in Edinburgh, especially the best place for tasting Scottish oyster.] I enjoyed the oysters in Oyster Happy hour, served at just £1 a shuck for a raw oyster from 12:00 till 14:00 and 1730 till 1830.

This restaurant is well located in the center of the old town and if you stay there, reachable by a short walk. Located on the first floor, this is a trendy looking place when entering. Dining alone, I was denied a table seat despite the fact that the restaurant was at no stage fully booked during the evening. Eating at the oyster bar was fine however and the service by the gentleman behind the bar was courteous and professional. I observed that all wine by the glass is measured with appropriate containers - great - no guessing here whether you get the right quantity, especially as the glasses are not calibrated. However, the wine by the glass is not given to taste prior to serving - done in all good restaurants. Nor does the staff try a newly opened bottle for cork - other than smelling on the cork which really is useless. My ruccola salad was wet but it was neither olive oil nor vinegar and so had no taste. The Dover sole was fine, but served without lemon which I had to request separately. The restaurant is doing very well, so you can be assured of getting fresh seafood. What I found odd is that you eat with a meat knife in a restaurant which only serves fish. All these little shortcoming cost one point, so four points for this fine restaurant.

It was our last night of five in Edinburgh and we wanted to have a lovely dinner with good seafood. That's not what we had at all. The manager/maitre d' or whatever he was didn't smile or welcome us. Our waiter was awful. He looked at one of my friends as though she were crazy because she asked for more information on a dish. He took our order, brought it and that was it. He never stopped back to ask how it was. He looked past us whenever he passed our table. He didn't ask if we needed anything and he didn't ask whether we wanted dessert. Everyone but the woman working (one woman in the dining room!) was unfriendly. The food was overpriced. I had three scallops with nothing else offered on the plate for 24 pounds. So, in U.S. dollars, that was almost $10 per scallop. Ridiculous.

Went for dinner. Really enjoyed the food (which was expensive but very tasty) and the wine (which again was expensive) but the service was not great for the quality of restaurant. Lots of staff but the maitre d seemed to do everything. As a result we waited 10 mins from sitting down to be offered a drink. In the end I went up to the bar to chase them up. It’s not what I expect when spending £80 per head. I wouldn’t go back

One of the best 100% GF DF meals I’ve eaten out and the service was impeccable. Everyone involved serving our table knew that I was gluten and dairy free, which made me feel incredibly safe dining there. I was able to enjoy my meal without worrying about getting sick (and I felt great afterward, which is rare for me after eating out!). What’s more, they went above and beyond to ensure I wouldn’t have to sacrifice flavour or experience even while accommodating my allergies. They brought out delicious GF bread + extra virgin olive oil for dipping (instead of butter). The oysters were excellent and the lemon sole was the best fish I’ve ever had - I couldn’t believe fish could taste that good without butter! Champagne was lovely. My husband and I greatly enjoyed this delicious, romantic dinner for two. We’ll be back. Thank you!

Siamo stati il 20 agosto, consiglio di prenotare perché è sempre pieno. Alta qualità, prezzi non bassi, noi abbiamo pagato un piatto principale di pesce a testa più bevande circa 34 £ a testa. Pesce di alta qualità, si crudo che cotto, una cucina di pesce internazionali, molti piatti sono con inspirati alla cucina orientale e tropicale. Il piatto che vedete in foto ad esempio è rana pescatrice al curry con anacardi, salsina di melanzane, curry e coriandolo accompagnato da riso basmati zafferano e coriandolo.

Une petite appréhension suite à certains avis. En fait nous sommes sortis de ce restaurant enchantés : de l'entrée au dessert , tout a été parfait: les huîtres, les coquilles saint Jacques, la meringue aux framboises, les vins..... de plus serveurs très sympathiques. Cadre agréable. Addition un peu élevée mais cela vaut le détour. Je recommande vivement.

One for the traditional fish lover, really good quality fish cooked and prepared well. Here on a business trip and found it to be very good. Only criticism i that some mains perhaps lacked a little creativity, but couldn't fault the cooking of the fish. Would come back, only reason for not having five stars is that I think it is a little at the pricey end but think that comes with the central location.

Mi compañero reservó a Ondine para mi comida de cumpleaños, ya que tenía ganas de ir y escuché cosas tan buenas. El primer plato y principal fue increíble, pero el servicio lo decepcionó totalmente. El primer plato salió extremadamente rápido y nunca nos preguntaron cómo era cada curso. Después de que nuestro plato principal estuvo terminado, nos sentamos durante 35 minutos con nuestros platos frente a nosotros. Seguimos tratando de llamar la atención de los camareros, pero nos sentimos totalmente ignorados. La mesa de al lado terminó su comida y al instante les quitaron los platos, así que nos pareció muy frustrante. Después de la espera, decidimos no tomar un postre u otra bebida, ya que el servicio había puesto un poco decepción en la noche. Luego pedimos la factura, el cargo por servicio ya se agregó, lo que quizás sea la razón por la cual el camarero no pareció molestarse con el nivel de servicio. Luego se quedó en silencio mientras mi compañero pagaba, ni siquiera preguntó cómo era nuestra comida. La única persona que se molestó en preguntar fue el hombre que recibió mi chaqueta cuando nos íbamos. Es una pena, ya que la comida es fantástica, pero su camarero los decepciona. Por el costo que era (mi titular tenía 18 años), entonces deberían hacer un esfuerzo para proporcionar un buen servicio. No estoy seguro si volveremos.

We visited hawksmoor last night, it was a nice place aesthetically and pleasant staff we waited ages for our soft drink to come and had to ask where it was which is fine but seems a bit long considering the restaurant wasn’t that busy. When we received our food we were very happy with it and the chips were absolutely amazing some of the best chips we’ve ever had! As I was eating my steak I came across some really strange purple bits of meat which didn’t really look normal to what I’ve seen before and kind of looked like raw off parts of meat. This really put me off my meal. The waitress kindly took it to the chef to cook it more but it was obvious the bad bits of meat had been cut off as the steak came back quite a bit smaller. To pay £32 for this with no side included felt quite extreme especially as I only ate half of it due to the fleshy raw part. Wouldn’t return here to be honest.

Me and my partner came here whilst on a city break and we are both big fans of seafood. Staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. Lovely selection of seafood to choose from. We had the monkfish tacos and fish cakes as starters, and then the king prawn curry and my partner had the scallops and 1/2 lobster. The scallops are some of the best we have ever had. Reasonably priced for top quality food! Will definitely visit again and try the sharing platter as it looked delicious. Thank you so much 😄

Had a fantastic time on the bus when it came through to Glasgow The food was simply devine, especially loved the fact you have 6 (yes 6) mini courses to eat and each one is just amazing. the whole look of the bus is sleek and modern. It's all so comfortable,and cleverly designed so that cannot drop or spill anything. Aga and Martin who run the bus are excellent hosts,both bringing their passion to the bus,and always putting the customers first nothing was a problem for them. I would highly recommend this bus to everyone,it's a amazing experience with brilliant food, wonderful staff and it is also something a little different.
