Olympus Fish & Chip Restaurant in Bolton

Where to begin?A pandemic struck and there solution was to double, repeat, double their prices and then offer a government backed 50% reduction, fair enough but they then claimed the 50% back from the government scheme, so we paid the original prices whilst they made double via a govt. scheme, not good! Just been back in on the 17th May and prices have been maintained at the higher level, too expensive for Bolton and the quality leaves a lot to be desired, theirs much better gems in Bolton, you just have to find them, I have.

I have only ordered a few takeaways since the start of the first lockdown. Mainly because I enjoy cooking, but also because the takeaways I did have were very poor, greasy and didn't taste fresh. For me to have a takeaway, is a treat so it needs to be as good, if not better than my own cooking. Today I thought I would give Olympus a try. Instead of going through Just Eat, I decided to order directly through the Olympus website. The website is a breeze to navigate and has a comment box for specific requests. Was also good to save a bit on the price compared to the same order through Just Eat. I ordered 3 lightly battered cod, with a large portion of chips and a regular potion of chips. The food turned up piping hot and precisely on time. The delivery driver was polite, friendly and adhered to Covid precautions. Most importantly the food was excellent and the portions were massive. Definitely the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. The food was very fresh and you could tell the cooking oil was clean, without any stale aftertaste.If you have a craving for a really good fish and chips, I highly recommend Olympus. You won't be disappointed!

In my opinion Olympus serves the best fish and chips in the North West. The batter is super light and the whole meal absolutely delicious. Staff are attentive, helpful & friendly.Lots of space between tables, just waiting for the pianist to come back and it will be the icing on the cake.

Visited today hoping for s cooked Breakfast at a discounted price only to be told that they are serving a limited menu atm.Coffee,Tea, Toast,Beans on toast & Cheese on toast ( at £5.50!! ).Decided to just have a Coffee and eat elsewhere.Bill came at £2.80 and queried this as I thought non-alcoholic drinks were incl in the scheme.They insisted ALL drinks were excluded so I paid and left.After leaving I noticed several notices in the window advertising the scheme and said it includes ' non-alcoholic drinks'.Doesn't seem to be complying with the scheme to me!

Amazing Staffs with a delicious food. A big menu with lots of things and many choices ,I had a grilled salmon with a chips and curry sauce it was yummy and food served hot and fresh. Love it! Absolutely recommend it 👍🏻

£2.90 for a takeout portion of chips and a potato scallop. Disgraceful. At least social distancing being observed.

What is all the fuss about. People who rate this place 5 star must have never been anywhere other than Bolton to eat. There are very few English fish and chip shops in Bolton, other than takeaways that also sell kebabs and pizza so not the same. I have recently moved to Bolton so gave it a go, Ridiculous prices, for small amount of OK food. I must say takeaways and food in Bolton are quite horrid compared to where I used to live so maybe thats why people rate it a so good, because they have never been anywhere else to know what good food is for HALF the PRICE!You are all getting RIPPED OFF!

Olympus always delivers. Great fresh food at reasonable prices in a most pleasant environment served up by lovely staff. Keep up the great work in feeding Bolton!

Eat here fairly regularly for breakfast arrived this morning to find opening hour was now 930.when did this happen buy the local paper every day and don't remember reading about it .decided to eat at Morrison's which was appalling not the fault of Olympus obviously but all in all a terrible start to a typical damp Bolton morning.

I have visited for the first time Olympus restaurant. As soon I have entered I was quickly greeted by a waiter or manager ( I couldn't guess), he told me that I can choose any seats, I have chosen a table close to the door. After that he asked me to place the order at the bar. After placing the order at the bar, I have seen the same guy taking order from two gentlemans few tables away from me. When I have seen that I felt discriminated, I have approached the waiter and ask him , why de he send me to the bar to place the order, and for other customers he takes the order from the table? He replied to me saying that them customers are relatives or friends with the owner. After hearing that I felt discriminated and frustrated , and I ask him why did he treated me differenly than other customers? Is because he saw wearing beard, or because I have chosen the table close to the entrance so potentially I could run without paying? Need to mention that the restaurant has a sign where is written : WAIT TO BE SEATED .Thre is no way you do the order at the bar.I have decided to cancel my order, and the waiter quickly grabbed the money from the till and handed me over despite I have paid by card . It is clear that he discriminated me because I was wearing beard . I strongly recommend to not visit the place in order to avoid any disappointments.

When you've done a good mornings shopping and you need some good nourishing food, then the place to go is the Olympus. The staff are courteous, the atmosphere is good and the food is very good. Give it a go.

There's always a good welcome here and it's always busy. We are never disappointed and try different things every time we go. Have you been yet? Why not?

Visited here and was disappointed, not in the food but the lack of it Smallest fish and I could count the chips in ten seconds For not much change out of a tenner I was expecting more

Fantastic as always! We regularly visit the Olympus for a haddock speciality, which is always delicious. The special deal is great value, with fish, chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread and tea or coffee for £9.85. The staff are always so pleasant, and you can see why people keep returning!

Always made to feel welcome and valued. Food fresh and good value can’t fault. Great for families too

We were cold and had a day out in Bury...by local bus as we were visiting our son in Bolton. Brilliant restaurant and although I do not eat fish & chips I was reluctant to eat there, My husband did like them so in we went, I had steamed salmon which was delicious and ready in no time. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very helpful & courteous - old school!

Best chips in Bolton and the owners and staff were fantastic as always! Can’t recommend more highly!

The staff, as usual, are always courteous and friendly, Mum and I love this place, it has a lovely atmosphere, and even a piano player in the background gives a nice ambiance to the dining experience, Mum had the pensioner fish and chips, I had my favorite Mossacka and chips, can highly recommend both dishes.

Very nice greeting . Great menu although somewhat overpriced . Not that impressed with portion size of the fish. Didn't really like the flavour of the gravy provided with the steak puddings. On the positive side, the homemade steak and mushroom pie was excellent.

50 of us, paid a visit to the Olympus Restaurant, from arriving to leaving, it was a real treat, each person ordered there own dish, which was quite varied, particularly when we have people with diet requirements, all the feedback was extremely good. Thoughly enjoyable experience, and highly recommended, we also had background music from the grand piano to provide a lovely day, we will be back.

Popped in with my friend for a catch up, what could be better. The staff here are exceptional, and I just love Francesca who reads my mind as I walk through the door. The food is great, and staff look after you from beginning to end, very polite and cheerful.

Visited Olympus with my toddler, husband and mother in law during a day out in Bolton. I was expecting a simple fish and chip restaurant but was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant and the staff are absolutely lovely. The staff were extremely attentive; opened the door for us with a friendly welcome and the service was faultless. Had lovely meals... meat & potato pie, cheese and onion pie & fish and chips. Spot on!! Loved the live pianist... a lovely touch!

Never had a bad meal hear that’s why we keep going back. The atmosphere is great. The staff ever so helpful and friendly. The food top class and the bill very reasonable. What more could you ask for.

Very enjoyable lunch from a surprisingly large menu. Everybody seemed happy and to be enjoying themselves with groups and couples filling the place. Even a pensioners' birthday party with a brief happy birthday song. Wheelchairs accommodated and food even for vegetarians and vegans. Great experience.

Cant fault this place-beautiful setting with orangery and piano- service always exceptional-polite and prompt,food fresh,piping hot and delicious. Tried the cheese pie for a change - obviously home made ,a bit disappointed the mousaka didnt contain aubergine.

During my visit and experience to this establishment I found the staff were friendly and helpful. The seating areas very clean and appear to be well maintained. The food is freshly cooked and I visited on a day when this restaurant wasn't too busy so I was served very quickly.

Very clean and very spacious and great service - but most of all delicious fish and chips. It's both modern and quaint - there's some thing of the 1950s about this place. And of course the background live piano music just makes the place perfect.

A lovely chippy been lots so we thought we try the breakfast. Coffee a little weak tea lovely. We ordered the full breakfast special £5.95 looked good a little greasy but very nice a little small compared to Morrison’s and Tiffany’s but good

Called in last Saturday been many times before but this time the meal was poor ordered fish and salad fish was tiny and overcooked and the salad came with new spuds and the whole dish didnt seem fresh was disappointed

Haven't been for ages since we thought our order had been mixed up but didn't complain at the time which I realised later we should have done!. We were in Bolton to visit the museum do decided to pop into the Olympus as my nephew was hungry. We were advised by a staff member than there was a problem so only cash payments were accepted that day which was fine with us. Some people popped out to banks , I had to let my sister pay for our meal as I only had my card on me. We had a choice of tables and chose the window one, my nephew had his usual children's meal, chicken nuggets but there other options for them, it comes with a choice of drinks but we didn't see the free gift, I think that was applicable when the meals came in a box?, Either way, he never noticed ha ha My sister had a jacket potato with tuna and mayo, said it was delicious. I had pudding and chips, not had that for years!!!!!! Loved it! Saw staff members we recognised from previous visits, always a good sign. Toilets are spotless as always, staff friendly and efficient, no wonder people were queuing to come in! Plenty of choice on the menu to suit everyone, we will be coming again soon!

An unusual venue for a hip-hop / jazz concert by the "Gelatos", a trio offshoot from the Clitheroe based "Swing Commanders". A fantastic array if Italian ices plus a hot pasty.

My wife and I use Olympus about once a month, for a nice simple meal out. It is easy to find, although it can be very busy at lunch time. Not a bad thing as it proves not only how popular it is, but that people return to use it often.

Excellent hospitality - Great Ambiance - Great fish and chips! Best service in town!!! Visited for lunch and had cod fish and chips - normal - large and extra large portions!!!! The owners are Cypriots and being Cypriots from the same city we were welcomed with even bigger arms!!!! Keep it up guys !

Went as a family party. The food is delicious and high quality. The portions aren't massive, the normal sized cod and haddock and chips are both similar to a smaller portion elsewhere BUT.... the standard was better. Some of the best haddock I've had away from the coast. I would go again but would order the mega portion I think, and accept it wouldn't be the budget option. Whatever tea they serve as part of the fish and chip meal is also delicious.

Went to the Olympus as previous experiences have been good. On this occassion we were not impressed, we were seated quite quickly and placed our order, then the meal took nearly 30 minutes. It was served up after we asked a waitress where our meals were.

Called for tea one evening after hearing about this place from others and it is just about as good a fish and chip restaurant as you will ever visit. Top quality food and service. Bolton should be proud of this place, quite exceptional!

12 of us Went at lunch time and I had a lovely cod and chips, service was quick especially so many of us to be served. Nice to have music whilst we ate. Nice cup of tea to wash it down.

We are regulars here as our office is nearby. Decent chippy but their portions of fish are a joke. Tiny. It’s the biggest chippy I’ve ever seen and they must be making a fortune . Sort your portions out and it would be a 4 star.

This chippy has been in the heart of Bolton for decades. The reason being is the staff are wonderful the food is Amazing!!! and very clean. Piping hot and so fresh you can almost taste the sea. My 12yr old son and I love it. I defy anyone to find better in Bolton.

Visited this establishment last week for lunch having heard really positive things about the food. I had the cheese and onion pie special which was billed as home made cheese and onion pie. It was served with a small quantity of chips and mushy peas. Taste wise, the pie was not bad. The texture of the pie was terrible. It had clearly been microwaved so the pastry was so soggy that it just sank into the pie filling. Awful. At £8.50 this was an expensive chippy lunch which could be accepted had the chef been able to present a decent cheese and onion pie. My experience clearly differs greatly from other reviewers. On the plus side, the venue is well located and the service was efficient. That said, I will not return.

Old style service (door held open for you entering and leaving-nice touch) and genuine courtesy in a big restaurant with a Greek influence .Much more than just fish and chips,to which I was so very tempted. Huge Cumberland sausage,creamy mash and lashings of gravy (£8.50) plus a diet coke (£1.80) filled me up before a dash to catch the train-10 mins walk. Earlier tried The York pub nearly opposite the station which does not do lunchtime food.

Called in early morning and was surpised how nice it was inside. There was a problem with the grill, but tis was explained to me as I entered and it was sorted out n 10 minutes.

It is recognised for its fish and chips, and my meal matched the expectations! The staff were super friendly, and food was served in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant is looking a little tired and dated, so it may be time for a re-fresh, but still the place looks clean.

I absolutely love Olympus Fish & Chip Restaurant. It is one of my favourites, if not, my favourite. They provide a quick, efficient and friendly service, quality of the food is excellent, and the staff are lovely. Cannot fault them at all.

Olympus is the best resturant in Bolton. You always get a warm welcome from the staff who are also very accommodating. The waiting time for the food is minimal and the quality of food is very high. Would recommend Olympus to anyone for any occassion :)

My wife is disabled and the staff cant do enough, the place is spotless and food excellent.There are a number of blue badge spaces outside, but is also good for transport links.

Excellent breakfast menu, the staff go out of their way to be helpful & friendly, they help with your coat and open the door for you and always say thank you when you're leaving. First class place to eat.

Tasos really has got the Olympus running like a clock from the greeting at the door to the fabulous fish and chips which come in portions for both your pockets and your appetite

Food nice but small portions and far too expensive, you are paying for people who enjoy dancing while your eating. didn't enjoy our visit and we won't be going again.

This isn’t the kind of place we would normally go but we gave it a try because of the lack of other options. We are glad we did as we had a nice time and some good food

The Olympus is not your typical Fish & Chip Restaurant. The owner is charming, the food is excellent, the service & attention to detail is first class, the restaurant was spotlessly clean, as was the stylishly designed rest rooms. What really blew me away, was the ambience created by the wonderfully talented pianist/vocalist/guitarist Chez Haynes (stage name is Leon Charles), playing a beautifully sounding grand piano, topped off by a wonderful lilting tone. He is a singer songwriter with years of experience from playing venues all around the world. I believe the Olympus also stage events such as plays, Jazz/musical evenings etc. I will most definitely be revisiting soon.

Called into Olympus today for lunch, had never been before as I had expected it to be just a chippy. What can I say! It far exceeded my expectations. The decor is lovely and the place is spotless. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious! Will definitely be going back some time soon

I've been going for years and the food is great. Tanya and the lady with the grey bob particularly do a great job and a friendly with all the customers. The restaurant is a nice treat for me too.

Service as it should be , all the staff are courteous and helpful , the food is lovely and at great prices . Would recommend everyone go there at least once and not only enjoy the food but the service which is second to none.

We have never been before & come from area , Staff lovely , Fish & chips lovely (pensioners special) prob not enough for a man , only thing we wasnt keen on was Piano player/singer if it was turned down some would have been enjoyable but we sat at front of resteraunt & he was at back & we couldnt hear ourselves talk a big NO for us , shame as i have since heard they went & it was just piano in background

Went to Olympus today for lunch with the other half as she'd told me how good it was. Can't say she was wrong. Good size portions, fish very nice, chips excellent and the curry sauce was exceptional.

Visited Olympus for lunch after a shopping trip on Sunday with my mum and grandma, obviously knew it would be very busy but didn’t realise how much so until we got there!

Food is always great well proportioned great prices. Now they do ice creams of all flavours. The staff is friendly. The place is nice and a guy was playing the piano too. Would go again.

Went for a late lunch last Tuesday after saying for ages that we need to check it out. The restaurant is large very clean and well layed out (tables were not bunch too close together). Ordering was easy and the food arrived promptly. The food was hot, the batter light and crispy, although the chips were a little small they were okay, the mushy peas were great but the portion size needs to be a little larger. All in all had a good meal in a nice restaurant.

First visit for my friend and I. Food was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the pianist, while we ate. Staff great, nothing too much trouble. Very impressed with decor and orangery. Good for wheelchair access & facilities. Hope to be back soon.

My friend and I called at lunchtime. We were cheerfully greeted and quickly shown to a vacant table. The restaurant was busy but we were quickly provided with the menu and soon our drinks and food order was taken. The menu is very extensive and caters for a wide variety of tastes and styles.

I like the Olympus, handy as I work in town but it seems every couple of months the takeaway sticks anoter 10-20p on the prices. The fish meal deal was under a fiver not that long ago today it was £7. And the fish is tiny, didn't even fill the tray. Nice foodm, cooked well but not good value

This is a first rate restaurant with a wide choice of dishes. It is warm, friendly and the food is always excellent. It seems to attract a regular clientele and can be very busy at times. I dine there at least once a week

This is trying to be more than a fish and chip shop but it’s not managing it, for fish and chips and other “with chips” meals it’s expensive you may as well eat at a restaurant. Because of where it’s situated it will continue to be successful but for a tenner you can eat your fill.

My wife and me dropped in by pure chance off the bus exchange, and what a great surprise we had !! We were met as we walked in, taken to our table and, when we ordered, the meal was superb. It may have only been Fish n' Chips, but they were cooked to perfection, and the fish was gorgeous, served with nice fresh bread and a pot of tea. My wife is somewaht a conniseur on fish and she was delighted. The waiter/ s were 1st class, very friendly and courteous to everyone who came in and went out, which is nice to see these days. All in all, a great place to eat, anytime I should imagine, but do try and drop in for their fish n' chip lunches. We'll be back next we are in Bolton Mmmmmmmmm !!!

Food is delicious. Absolutley delicious. Soft barm cakes, chunky chips NOT greasy, with a lovely texture. Latte's lovely (i am fussy regards Latte's). Relax also to a gentleman who plays the piano. Amazing place.

Looking for somewhere to eat after doing a bit of shopping, we spotted Olympus fish bar, Wow! when we walked through the door we were amazed at how classy this place looked. The fish and chips were delicious, served with mushy peas, side salad and bread and butter. The staff were very friendly and polite. I would highly recommend this place

We visit Olympus ever now and again and the food is always great, full of flavour. Sometimes chippys have greasy food however Olympus doesn’t! It’s great value for money also. Would recommend!

We've been coming to the Olympus for many years as it's consistently great. The fish is beautiful and the atmosphere smart and relaxed - upmarket without being pretentious.

We had two pensioner meal £7:60. Fish is lovely. Staff are friendly and welcoming Toilets and tables very clean.

Called in here on a very cold Decembers day and a lovely surprise to find the restaurant warm and friendly, My girlfriend said it was the best fish and chips she had ever had and we both loved the ambience with the piano being gently played in the background .

Called in again today as we always do when shopping in Bolton town centre. I had my usual musaka and my wife her usual fish chips & peas and it was superb ! .One thing though we are not happy about,we noted that the board outside said pensioner special.

It is the sort of place i imagine as a restaurant from 1952. That said its not a bad thing. The service is excellent and the fish and chips were outstanding. its really good to relax and eat and chat with friends over simple well prepared food.

We often go midweek around tea-time before heading off to the Octagon theatre. However, this time around it was a meal after work before we went to the cinema.

Visited with a coach party yesterday for a meal, the food was fantastic but what made our visit so special was the professional way in which we were welcomed and served, all credit to the manager who I believe was called Ali. Nothing was too much trouble and he made our visit so enjoyable. Thank you again for looking after us so well. We will be back !
