Olympic Cinema in Richmond upon Thames

This is place so overrated, burger is so poor, blunt and gives you a lots of discomfort. Staff are not very friendly and constantly coming to clear up your table. Very disappointing, won’t come back there.

Very disappointing. Such a great location and feels quite cool because of the adjacent cinema, but everything else was grim. The noise level was horrendous due to two yummy mummies with toddlers in wheelchairs who bawled incessantly and made our conversation almost impossible. The mothers seemed utterly oblivious to their effect on other people and the staff did nothing. This was bad enough but the food was deeply average. My companion's Caesar Salad was a very sad thing indeed and at £18.00 grossly overpriced - it's intrinsic value can't have been more than about 30p. And my burger was pretty nondescript. With only one glass of wine for my companion, our bill came to £75 for two. Not remotely worth it. Perhaps their prosperous postcode encourages them to think that their customers have money to burn - and perhpas they're right. Never again. We'd have had a nicer time sitting out on the sunny common with a couple of Cokes and a sandwich from the local deli.

Really average overpriced food. We had breakfast here, the portions were tiny and the food wasn’t nice at all. Undercooked bacon, cold fried eggs and absolutely terrible service. We had to get up several times to get anyone’s attention. Won’t be going back!

The food is excellent and the service is welcoming. The menu is quite eclectic and interesting. The hake I had was cooked just right.

I knew I shouldn't have taken the business contact I was meeting for tea in Barnes to the Olympic cafe as I have never been there without something being wrong and having to be either sent back or knocked off the bill. But there was nowhere else immediate that was open. Sure enough, from the stony faced girl at the "greeting" station, who just said "yeh" when I asked if we could have a table for two, to the 15 minute wait for any service whatsoever, it was embarrassingly bad. Arguing with the waiter who said we "should have said no sugar" in our unwanted sugared coffee was fairly typical and reminded me of the time the waiter shoved a bottle of elderflower syrup under my nose insisting it was the cordial drink I had ordered. The cinema staff are wonderful and it's always a great experience, but come on cafe! You have a brilliant location but the food and drink isn't good enough and the staffing really needs looking at.

I dined there for brunch yesterday. It is a gorgeous venue and the two hosts were very pleasant but our waitress was incredibly hostile. She was very short with us, and barely made eye contact - except for an eye roll when I asked about gluten-free options, she took plates without asking, grunted in response, ordered the wrong drink, and forgot a side. I cannot fathom how she has a customer-facing role - It was an unbelievably poor experience and all of my guests took note of her attitude from the moment they sat down. The food itself was fine but looked quite sad in terms of portion sizes and lack of presentation for the price tag. The service was so poor that I was actually embarrassed as the organizer to bring my friends here for a brunch and felt the need to apologize. I'm really sad to leave this review as this used to be one of my favorite places to meet with friends

We booked the private room for our mother’s funeral wake. The service, food and everything was impeccable. They looked after us beautifully and made a sad experience lovely, warm and a home from home.

Awful lunch here . Menu very limited .Quality of food poor and service awful we had to wait nearly an hour for our main course and when it arrived none our food was very warm but one of our party had a completely cold meal. The waiter was very apologetic and said delay was due to kitchen coping with a large party in the restaurant upstairs. Added to this was sitting beneath the cold blast of the air conditioner on a very cold February day; we had a miserable lunch. The waiter removed the cost of the cold meal from the bill but we certainly won’t be coming back here. The standard of food overall was very poor value for money.

My wife and I went to Olympic Studios for brunch on Saturday. We had: one eggs benedict (so-so) £12 English breakfast served as "sides" (bacon, mushroom, black pudding) (good). That added up to £11.25 One Freshly squeezed orange juice: £5.00 Two pots of tea: £5.00 Toast (two slices): charged £4.00 !!!!!!!!! That's it: with service came to £41.91 for two. I mean: I think that's very expensive for two very straightforward breakfast plates and not much else. Perfectly good service, nice setting in Barnes but ... charging £4.00 for two slices of toast. I mean: wow that is ridiculous. We had half thought of going to the Ivy Richmond and, looking at their menu, might have been cheaper. My wife: "We had a lovely chat there but we're not going back in a hurry."

Olympic has a lovely location and a captive audience. Why can't they get decent chefs who are passionate about good food? Time and time again the experience of eating here is disappointing. The current menu is terrible - there is nothing on it that you really want to eat! It's also overpriced. The only part of the menu that vaguely tempted the taste buds were the side dishes - padron peppers and a green salad sounds nice. I wish I'd had a selection of side dishes. The meat/fish dishes are very limited and overpriced. Cod for £26 - unless it was straight out of the sea (unlikely) and beautifully served then that's a rip-off. Cod is quite boring unless imaginatively served. Yes, the burgers are there but does anyone actually like a brioche bun? No information given on the beef used so it could be the cheapest meat available - no thanks! The superfood salad was a pile of cold couscous with a few pomegranate seeds. It had no flavour at all and was served fridge cold. There was nothing super about it, there was no salad - this would cost about 30p in terms of the ingredients. It took me back to school dinners and staring at something on your plate that you really didn't want to eat. Chicken in breadcrumbs was ok but came with no potatoes or accompaniment so was overpriced. No sauce or anything to perk it up a bit. The bread was nice and warm - that was the best part of the meal. It really was a struggle to find anything you really wanted to eat. Butcher's cut where you had to enquire about the meat plus price? Are you kidding me? What a pretentious load of nonsense. Why not have some staples with good ingredients - eg: some good pies; lasagna; a good hotpot etc? The only pasta dish was pumpkin ravioli. Pumpkin is quite sweet so you don't really get the flavour sensation you want. The soup was pumpkin too - same problem - too much like baby food. Why not just do a really tasty goulash, chicken mushroom or but pumpkin soup? I could go on. We didn't try the puddings to can't comment on that. Barnes is now a pretty good foodie destination - some fantastic food shops, a great farmers' market etc. This prime restaurant/cafe in a prime location in a lovely part of London with a great foodie scene is serving up the most depressing food. Come on - sort out the food. Get a super-chef in to turn this around. Good food doesn't have to cost a fortune - do some of the basics but do them properly. Get in a decent chef who understands good food and tempting taste buds. The menu says it all - you stare at it wondering what will be the least poor thing on the menu. People want to be excited and stimulated by good food. I don't know what the management are thinking - have they never been to a good restaurant/cafe? The service was fine, although I got the impression the staff know that the menu choices are rubbish. But staff were friendly and efficient.

Food was good, but little variation in menu since our last two visits. Service was sluggish, the waiter appeared to be completely disinterested. We are fairly local but I'm not inclined to return until the menu shows more change and inspiration

Nice restaurant in a lovely area. Perfect for brunch (really good benedict eggs!), but also very nice for dinner or simply a drink before watching a film at the cool Olympic cinema. The place is usually busy but service is always great.

Don’t bother. 30 mins after ordering on 3 different occasions advising something was not on the menu. 3 out of 4 guests received their food, the 4th person after 10 min was told what she ordered was off the menu. Dreadful experience.

Hermoso edificio y maravilloso cine.

Had a lovely dinner at th Olympics studio. Tuna tartare starter and veggie main were both good, as was the service. The place was busy but so spacious that it was relaxing. The walls next to the bathroom have the names of all the musicians that were recorded in this studio before it closed about 15 years ago. Enjoyed it.

Visitamos este restaurante un martes a media tarde. Estaba tranquilo con solo algunos otros clientes. Tuve un ñoquis de ajo salvaje y mi esposa ha asado coliflor, luego compartimos un postre con una copa de vino tinto. La comida era excelente. Sabrosas, bien cocinadas y raciones razonables. El servicio fue amigable y eficiente. El restaurante en sí está en el encantador pueblo de Barnes en una excelente ubicación en la calle principal. El costo fue el que usted esperaría en esta ubicación y calidad. Ambos disfrutamos mucho de nuestra visita y sin duda volveremos.

Es fabuloso comer en un antiguo estudio tan icónico sabiendo que The Beatles, Bowie, Hendrix, Zeppelin, etc. han pisado las mismas tablas, aunque con un propósito ligeramente diferente. Dejando a un lado el encanto del sitio, también resulta que es un restaurante decente del vecindario, aunque, como el vecindario es Barnes, los precios son proporcionalmente altos, tan altos como el falsete de Freddie Mercury. La calidad de la comida es buena, la elección es excelente y la lista de ganadores está bien elegida. También es probable que se considere una ventaja tener un cine de tamaño completo adjunto. Una buena tarde todo el año.

we regularly see films at Olympic Studios and thid restaurant is adjoining so very convenient for 'pre-film' meals. The only problem is that everyone else does the same so you have to book as early as possible or you will not get a table! The food is good (rather than excellent) but scores a 'rounded 4' overall.

Visited restaurant on a busy night and were made to feel welcome by smiley, friendly staff who found us a table without too much fuss despite not havng booked. Weren't hungry enough for starters so just ordered mains and wine: chicken & mushroom pie for me, which was delicious; my friend had cumbrian steak which was cooked to perfection and the hand-cut chips (which I tried) were truly amazing. We were served by a lovely waitress who was attentive throughout the evening and had a terrific sense of humour. Decided to share dessert and went for the baked vanilla cheesecake which didn't disappoint. Overall we had a really happy evening and will definitely be going back, hopefully soon.

I visited this restaurant last week and am sad to say it was not a nice experience. The vibe of the restaurant is lovely but the food was disappointing to say the least. I ordered a croque monsieur which looked like Tesco value bread with two barely melted squares of cheese on top with dry ham. When I asked a waiter about the food and if he thought it looked appetising, he said that it wasn’t his job to have an opinion on the food. The manager came over, offered no apologies and then charged me for the meal I had sent back. I ordered another disappointing meal afterwards - vine tomatoes and feta on toast - which was fairly tasteless and again the bread was stale and not of a high quality. I spent £40 on brunch in this restaurant and absolutely didn’t enjoy it.

Very good food and overall menu. Good drinks, and service. Great history about the cafe as an old recording studio for some of the most famous musicians in the 70,s thru early 2000’s. Some still visit today. Sit outside and enjoy the local feel of the village of Barnes!

Unfortunately this is not making the most of its amazing position. The menu is getting pretty tired. Just not as good as it should/could be. Needs a bit of a wake-up.

We keep trying this restaurant before going to the movies here and it is always disappointing. Last night was no exception the staff were disorganised and chaotic - you would think the place was busy - no only three tables of diners. There is very little for a vegetarian to choose from. We eventually ordered our meal, only for my partner to be served the wrong starter. I had the smallest slice of white onion and cheese tart imaginable - maybe it was an inch at the wide end of the slice - for £7 this is unacceptable. By the time I finished, there was still no replacement starter. The leek and cheese in bechamel sauce finally arrived - it was thick over rich and sickly. (The table next to us ordered a bowl of chips which never seemed to arrive - they kept asking.) By now we had been there an hour and continued to wait for our main dishes. The herb gnocchi I had was fried, dried out and over salted - the cod dish was good but dull. I have no idea why we keep imagining this place will be better the next time. I think we will try somewhere else the next time we want to go to the Olympic cinema. I agree with another reviewer - this place is ongoing disaster!

We went with friends before watching a film. The ambience is charming with delightful staff. I had an excellent bowl of outstanding, spicy tomato soup as a starter but my main course Rastafarian’s cod , although perfectly cooked, lacked flavour and was a bit disappointing.

we were very well looked after during our evening meal. The staff know if you are viewing a film and match service to film start time. There were lovely choices for vegetarians. the parmigiana is delicious

The service at peak times is terrible. They removed the best item from the menu that was French Toast with caramelised pear. Portions very small.

Saturday early evening and the place was busy but we got a table for a quick one course. We were well looked after and the cheese burger and red rice salad with chicken were well presented and delicious. Special mention for the fries which we were cooked to perfection, golden brown and crisp! The bill included a mandatory 10% service charge which I hate. I would rather be the decision maker on tipping.

Paré para un brunch hoy y otra vez otro servicio decepcionante. El brunch fue agradable pero se detiene ahí. Vi a un grupo incluso levantarse y marcharse ya que nadie se acercó. Se fue a recoger a la guardería después y cada madre dijo lo mismo. . es una pena. . la única teoría es que debido a que se agrega el cargo por servicio, el personal no está motivado.

Entradas para el cine, así que me pareció una buena idea para la cena. Era. Servicio atento desde el momento en que llegamos. Mostrado directamente a la mesa, las bebidas siguieron rápidamente de Patrick. Comí bacalao asado, mejor - puré de papas con mantequilla de camarón en el lado. Crumble de ciruela, crujiente y tarta encantadora. Nada demasiado para nuestro camarero Stefan. Si viviera más cerca sería un habitual.

Service is slow and our food was cold. Took over an hour to receive it too and it was obvious it had been sitting out for awhile.

Beautiful venue but unfortunately awful service. Staff were really rude. We queued for 20 minutes for a table for brunch. We got a table and were given the menus, only for the manager to suddenly come take the menus back and tell us that she has decided to pause all orders for 20 minutes, apparently because the chef was overwhelmed. We decided to wait, but then suddenly it was 45 minutes. No apology, and very arrogant attitude. Not a place we’ll be coming back.

Ive been about 5 times this year as im a recent local and the service is some of the worst around. The all seem to hate their jobs, ignore you when you walk in, mess up orders, forget drinks, never bring anything you ask for after the meals are given - this has happened every time I’ve come. They need new management and new staff. The food is good but nothing super fantastic.

We came here because we had friends from overseas and needed to be in the area and also somewhere that serves all afternoon. I’ve been a few times for coffee and cakes and it was always nice.

This place is great very welcoming with good food at reasonable prices most of the staff are very welcoming but there is one or two pretentious staff members who possibly consider some one in casual dress may be not too worthy but other wise I love the place the cinema manager is an awesome gentleman so kind do welcoming always with out exception the place is in a great location not far from town centre of London etc easy parking and nice relaxed place

Fairly busy place for lunch, nice outside seating. Average service and average fast food cafe style. Nothing wrong with it but nothing special either. Fairly expensive for what is served. Decent service pleasant and polite staff.

På Olympic Studios har storheter som Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin och The Beatles spelat in musik, men idag är denna historiska musikaliska plats dels ett café och dels en biosalong med sofistikerat ljud och bild. Bion vet jag inget om, men på cafét åt vi en middag som inte var mycket att skriva hem om. Eller också hade vi bara otur.

A year ago I was disgust d by burned grizzled meat that showed not only poorly chosen produce but terrible cooking. After change of menu I ordered Romanesco Cauliflower as a MAIN COURSE for lunch (see photo) and felt disappointed and frankly quite upset to find the meal consisted of a few florets, no more than a couple of spoons of peas, and the minty sauce (admittedly flavoured as promised). But as you’ll see in the photo this entire dish was no bigger than my fork. Pathetic. Stupidity. I’m not greedy nor am I a culinary idiot, but £13 for anything under a mains menu should at least satisfy a modest appetite. Could it be this chef, or the management, have decided to go minimal and increase price of vegetarian food, because it looks clever and posh on the menu. Lesson number one, dissatisfied customer means restaurant failed.

Anoche fue mi primera visita y no será la última. Yo estaba asistiendo a una proyección del maravilloso Cine Olympic Studios, así que era conveniente para cenar aquí. En esta ocasión, yo estaba en mi propio, y no habíamos reservado, pero nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos, y pronto llevaron a un asiento agradable. El equipo del restaurante son todos jóvenes, pero muy amable y eficiente. Ellos trabajan muy duro pero realmente parecen disfrutar de sí mismos. Una buena gama de opciones en el menú, pero fui para entrante y plato principal de la ofertas. Y así me alegro. Tempura de flores de calabacín relleno (¡deliciosa! ) seguido por el cordero de primavera (para morirse! ). El cordero era tan tierna y sabrosa y bien presentada (Felicitaciones al chef! ). Una generosa porción.

Vine aquí porque está clasificado como Vogue como uno de los mejores lugares en Londres, pero la izquierda brunch decepcionado. El menú tenía una buena selección de alimentos y bebidas, pero la ejecución y el servicio sin duda para mejorar. Las tortitas eran sosas y las raciones en general eran pequeñas. Me esperaba más.

A friend and I had a pre-show meal here and were absolutely delighted with the quality, ambience and service. Our choices were roast cod with almond purée and braised globe artichokes , and chicken paillard wirh aubergine caponata and pine nuts. Sides of an exceptional dressed salad and mash. For dessert we shared a phenomenal rhubarb and chantilly cream confection (illustrated). A carafe of house wine perfected the meal. Top marks!

Great to come straight from the cinema into the restaurant. Very cosy, good menu, very very attentive, efficient staff, and the food was really good. Would happily go there even if we weren't going to cinema.

Located within the cinema building the restaurant is ideal if you are watching a movie. it is good for meals at any time whether or not you are watching a movie. We had breakfast and the food and service is good. The coffee is excellent.

We visited the Olympic Studios Cafe to see the wonderful Emily Barker, we were so impressed with the amazing bar staff after cocktails, even after the wonderful evening of music in the venue, we returned for more martini's before returning home. The service was personal, fun and professional, and the qualitry of the martini's absolutely excellent, we will definately return!

Lots of choice from light bites to traditional Sunday Lunch. All served by friendly and helpful staff. The service is quick and efficient and the food very good. Olympic Studios are also child friendly which is a real bonus.

Booked a table here for the family for 7.15pm after the latest Star Wars movie. Sat down to be told the children’s menu had finished at 7pm and that there could be no exceptions. Not told this when we booked, nor is it on the website. Hostess couldn’t care less. Took our disappointed and hungry children home, with a sarcastic farewell ringing in our ears. Despite some good experiences when it first opened, never return, shall we.

We pointed this out to the waiter. No reduction on the bill nor a complimentary glass of wine. Nothing.My sister ordered a steak. It was slices of beef half of which she left. My lamb was delicious and plentiful, accompanied by potatoes and two very tiny pieces of kale. Not a nutritionally balanced meal.We won’t be returning.

La comida excelente. Cálido, atento y gracioso servicio, nada de problemas. No tienes que esperar para nada, cócteles diseñados para pedir, profesional, alegre, sonriente personal. Qué alivio! Quien escoge y capacitado el personal, buen trabajo. Lo sobresaliente de diciembre, para mí. Gracias chicos.

Came here to eat after the film. The standard and choice of food in the past were good. I struggled to find anything that I wanted to eat on the menu. I ended up with a burger and wished I hadn't. The restaurant has so much potential and, in my opinion, need to revisit its old standards and menu. The staff were good.

Our table, when our reservation was eventually found, was against a wall by the kitchen and bar. It was draughty around our shoulders and feet. We asked to move, but no other table was available.

El paquete completo de diseño interior acogedor pero atractivo, elegante, amistoso, competente, menú a buen precio con una buena variedad de platos interesantes; buen ambiente. Mi favorito Eatery Barnes. Me gustan todas las referencias en las paredes de su vida pasada como un estudio de grabación para estrellas de los 70s - 90s y probablemente otras décadas.

He estado aquí varias veces. Más recientemente fue un almuerzo familiar organizado y todo salió de acuerdo al plan, lo cual no siempre es fácil de lograr con amplia grupos etarios que varían.

Qué gran almuerzo. Nuestro hijo reservado este restaurante para mi cumpleaños, y fue fantástico. Francois y Adam nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos a nuestra llegada y nos fuimos a disfrutar realmente de la comida. La comida, el vino, el ambiente y la experiencia en general fue genial. Sin duda volveremos!

Really good atmosphere, great service and excellent menu, the sausage roles were amazing. The cinema that ajions the cafe is a real find for SW London, the whole place has an air of sophistication but is not sniffy.

This new(ish) breed of unpretentious restaurants is becoming very popular and do you know what? I love it! I love this sort of unassuming approach to a gaggle of simple ingredients being turned into what is a plate of deliciousness. Gone are the days of "fine dinning" as an expression. Why can't all dining be fine!This place is effortlessly cool with a shortish menu that will no doubt have something to please everyone. You won't find a sycophantic matre d here, just a bunch of jolly people making sure you have a good time!The place had an adventurous little cocktail list and a cocky little wine list with my favourite lunchtime measure, a carafe.So come on this new breed of independent little eateries that are bucking the trend and sending us to food heaven in such an unpretentious, wholesome and inclusive way!If you're after a recommendation of where to eat or where to stay, I've got loads! We visited here with friends and staff accommodated us to add 2 tables together for the 6 of us sitting outside. I went for the Eggs Benedict which they happily changed with no charge from ham to bacon. The kids went for a huge plate of pancakes and omelette and they had very cute drinks served in glass containers with straws. We all enjoyed the food and drinks and overall the quality of food was very good and the staff were attentive and helpful.The loos were clean and easy to find and i think this will become a regular breakfast haunt for me on my annual visit to Barnes.

I paid my first visit to the Olympic Studios Cafe (an integral part of the Olympic Cinema complex) in Barnes (easy to find on Church Road) earlier today.I was accompanied by my wife and two friends and - although we were only interesting in having coffee & muffins - we were warmly welcomed to this very nice Cafe/Restaurant which has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. All the coffees and muffins were not only excellent but very competitively priced.Service was also most impressive so I strongly suspect this will not prove to be our one and only visit!

Four of us had lunch in the private member's restaurant. All round excellent ... service and food were very good as well as reasonable price.

There aren't many places in London which give you something more than what seems to be on offer.I must tell you that the Olympic Studios + the Olympic Studios café delivers an unexpected knockout-punch, in the romance department!Firstly, choose your movie wisely, appeal to your partners sensitive and heartfelt side.Then, transition comfortable from the cinema to the café restaurant. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table.OK, we were a party of six and this could be chaotic in a busy restaurant (which it is) but the staff handled it all brilliantly.We ordered starters from across the menu to share and the same with mains.Suffice to say, it was all fantastically tasty and cooked to perfection.BRAVO !

This is a buzzy place - we always have a drink in the bar area before going to see a flick in the very comfy cinema, tonight we were hungry and decided to see if it was as good as it sounded from the menu. I chose carefully, avoiding the ' tasteless prawns and pasta dish' which was slated by another reviewer, and had the aubergine starter with some jersey royals as a main course. Amongst the best potatoes I've ever eaten - they clearly don't stint on quality, and were beautifully cooked. I could have eaten them forever. Chris had the chicken paillard and caponata, and pinched some of my spuds as they were so incredibly good, and his plate had none. I forgave him. It was a huge portion and he hoovered it up with and relished every mouthful. I loved my aubergine dish. I'm usually carnivorous, but didn't want a lot, so it was quite enough for me, particularly mopped up with the nice tasty but slightly dense bread they provided. I will bring my veggie friends here, for sure. Two alcoholic drinks, one starter, one main, and two puds of the day - heavenly peach & frangipane tart with mango coulis, lemon sortbet and shortbread crumbs, came to £50 including a well deserved tip. Nice friendly prompt service through the meal. Maybe we were lucky, and the place wasn't very full, but we had a lovely time and will go back again with pleasure. I've given it 4 stars because we were hanging around for a while waiting to be seated without any acknowledgement, but it all came good. I'm so pleased, it's a special place with history.

Oh dear. I live in Barnes but never eaten here before in the few years it's been open. And won't be doing so again! Service was incompetent. The two waitresses were trying their best but one spilt orange juice down a diner's back! Moments later the other dropped a glass on the floor which shattered everywhere around some tables. When it came to end of meal, couldn't get card machine to work. But what is really giving a low rating is the food. Bland bland bland and not as good as I could have half-halfheartedly knocked up at home and I'm not a professional chef! Salt cod starter was basically small fish cakes. Worse was our main course of spaghetti with prawns. Bland oily sauce, a few tasteless prawns padded out with too many tomatoes. £24 each for two courses and mineral water, and so not worth it. Typical of a slightly pretentious place which relies on its location, and the fact it's part of the very nice luxury cinema attached to it.

First time at Olympic. Waited outside to be seated but completely ignored as waiting staff whizzed around serving tables etc. Eventually had to ask if we could sit down at one of the empty tables. Coffees were very good. Food arrived cold (and it was a hot day); eggs Benedict and French toast. Not bad but nothing special. Overall a lovely setting but food only average. Will definitely head to one of the many better brunch options nearby next time!

We've visited here for breakfast, coffee and lunch and never disappoints. Not the biggest menu in the world, but adequate and the food always tastes good for us.

This is a very popular place so bookings are essential. Serves very decent mixed European food but they do change the listing to take into account seasonal produce.Great wine list with a good selection available by 50ml carafe which I thought was a great touch.They have some tables outside on the pavement but I think they are only for drinks.Staff really friendly and good fun, all in all a very enjoyable experience and it's no surprise that it is popular.
