Visited this lovely little garden centre today with my hubbie, sister and brother ( plus 1 very old doggie). Had a lovely lunch, portions were large and lovely, we all struggled to finish our meals. We had already seen the homemade scones and cakes on our way in, so decided to ask for them as a takeaway. The scones were massive and so nice, struggled to eat it 3 hours later. Lemon drizzle cake and Victoria sandwich also got great reviews from the others. The staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit to this dog friendly cafe and also to potter around the garden centre, so glad we stopped here.

We have driven past here many times without stopping, but decided to pop in today for breakfast, I'm glad we did. The staff were friendly and attentive, without being in your face. We had a full breakfast and a veggie breakfast, which were both lovely. The place was spotlessly clean too. Would recommend.

Excellent quality tasty food served by very pleasant staff. Plenty of choice on the menu we selected off the specials board and we were not dissapointed. Well worth a visit even if you don't have an interest in flowers and plants(it's part of a garden centre) second visit for us and on both occasions excellent.

Service excellent, on arrival Staff member welcomed us and seated us and supplied us with Menu to order from. Good selection to choose from. Staff Member returned to take our order in five minutes, and our order was with us in ten minutes. Delicious food and drinks served. Staff member polite and helpful, will return again real soon. Terrible Service at the Cafe. Waited more than 30 minutes for someone to take our order and still no sign of anyone. Even went to the counter to explained that we had been waiting 20 minutes, but the waitress didn't seemed bothered and just said it was table service. Waited another 10 minutes and still no service, so we left. Quite surprised also to see Ffin Y Park art gallery selling paintings at this terrible establishment. Avoid this garden centre. Owners should go and visit such places as Fron Goch garden centre to see how it's done properly.

Upon arrival, we were stood waiting for several minutes before being acknowledged or seated, despite several available tables. Once sat, we waited over 20 minutes to be served. While some staff were stood vacant and inattentive, others were unsystematic, aimlessly walking amongst tables. For some reason, even the chef was clearing/cleaning the tables as well as serving drink orders. After finally having our order taken, it wasn’t until several minutes later, we were approached to say that the soup of the day wasn’t available (mid day). After compromising, having not been offered any alternative options, our food arrived shorty after. At this point, we were still waiting on our drinks. The chef came over with my canned drink as ‘this can be brought now’, with his fingers in the glass and previous mouth prints along the rim. It was at this point that the table next to us (who were seated before we arrived) only just received their two coffees and single scone. We couldn’t believe how long they must have waited. Once we finally received the hot drinks we had ordered, the hot chocolate was cold and another table nearby who had been seated just before us had only just received their order (nearly 50 minutes after being seated and far after us). When paying, the waitresses had no idea which table number was ours or what we had ordered. Overall, the running of the cafe was extremely disorganised and inattentive towards their customers. Shall sadly not be returning.

From the moment we arrived we were met with tuts and sighs by the staff as we hadn’t booked. We didn’t know we had to book. They graciously accommodated our group of 9, but put us in an unheated area. We had different servers during our light lunch, but they were all very polite. The food was atrocious and not what was actually on the specials board. We ordered the bacon, fig & camambert toast, described as served on a toasted bloomer with sweet fig jam, creamy camambert, side of rocket & flaked almonds. We were actually served semi melted camambert on a crispy hard ciabatta with no fig or fig jam and a yellow limp rocket offering splattered in plain olive oil. The bacon was more like over cooked gammon. The rest of the food was ok ish. We were all served our food at different times, so some had finished eating before others had even been served. Drinks were ok, advise against the pumpkin latte! When we mentioned the lack of fig in the meal and that it was served on a ciabatta not a bloomer we were told that the chef was too stressed today. This was just after 12 noon. This place has really deteriorated, won’t be eating here again.

Booked afternoon tea as previous visits for lunch have always been very good. However, although sandwiches were fresh and tasty, the mini cake selection let it down; half a mini scone each, sparse selection of mini cakes and Halloween biscuit/pumpkin cake bites that didn’t look professionally made. Staff are always pleasant and welcoming, but didn’t think that the afternoon tea was up to scratch.

Waited at entrance for a couple of minutes as instructed by sign, some staff walked past then someone did look in our direction, so I asked for a table for two - there was only the two of us at the entrance - then a couple of menus were presented without any measure of welcome, we were lead to probably the worst table in the whole restaurant right at the counter. Constant staff chatter at the coffee counter. Neither noticed we were waiting a lengthy time with menus in front of us. We had arrived early so there was plenty of better tables. We waited and waited as the place slowly got busier but plenty of staff still standing around. Eventually I managed to catch a staff member and asked if we can order and was told ‘someone will be with you soon’. Waited a further few minutes. 25 minutes had passed since we arrived and we hadn’t even ordered yet. The restaurant became busier as we waited but the staff didn’t appear to be under any pressure. Seems the staff are managing the kitchen by slowing the service but a bit of communication with the customers wouldn’t go a miss. The wait for food was still slow! At this point the fact the food was good made no difference, we will try somewhere else in future.

Such a shame . The menu has been changed . I strongly suspect suppliers have been changed . The quality of all produce is now very poor . I never mind paying a premium for good quality . But today was a very premium price for poor quality tasteless eggs /bacon and sausage not worth mentioning . A massive contrast from every other previous visits . Previously always very busy but if the drastic change was to become less busy it should do the trick. The staff were still very pleasant and I feel for them when people will obviously question changes with them . A price increase is sometimes understandable but never sacrifice quality . From an easy 10/10 to at a push 3/10 . Gutted .

Went here today with family for a treat lunch. We were seated in the new updated area which is absolutely lovely. Tastefully decorated. We were shown quickly to our seats that we reserved even though we arrived early and it was busy. After a long journey our guests were very happy with this. Our order was taken by the friendliest waitress (Jenna) . Our drinks arrived a little later, given how busy it was we were happy with the short time we had to wait. Whilst waiting I would like to say how hard the staff were working. Tables being served, cleared with attention to detail. Our drinks arrived served by a lovely lady whose name I found out after was Jan. A credit to the cafe with her lovely attitude. Food arrived shortly afterwards. And arrived yet again with a lovely waitress called Rhodd, smiling away even though we baffled her with all our requests for condiments. Food was perfect and delicious and beautifully presented. Couldn’t ask for better. Loving the new menu. All in all our visit was great. The staff need a positive shout out because as a team from the floor manager to her team and the chefs they work hard but with a smile and so friendly and I will certainly be coming back. Thank you all

Have been coming here several times every month for breakfast but have gradually noticed the standard of cooking and the quality of food has declined rapidly. Yesterday my bacon was hard and burnt to a crisp, the beans were cold, the fried egg was hard on the bottom, the butter was completely melted and just poured out the wrapper but worst of all the once delightful plump sausages had been changed for tasteless tiny chipolatas. My custom will now go elsewhere.

I visited with my toddler and some friends and their toddlers from a local playgroup in order to have lunch and for the little ones to see the Christmas displays. Relations with the staff got off on the wrong foot when we were constantly being told that our prams were in the wrong place. The cafe is big enough to have a dedicated pram area, and it would have been helpful for someone to indicate where to put them when we arrived, rather than have the staff get stressy and wheel them around for us.Then one of the waitresses found a half corn on the cob which my daughter had dropped on the floor. I apologised and asked her to give it to me so I could tidy it away. However, the lady proceeded to go off on one at me, asking me if I had seen the sign which said that only food bought at the cafe could be consumed in the cafe (I hadn't seen the sign). I have never been to a cafe or restaurant and been told off for bringing food for my baby. Sometimes the options available aren't suitable, or aren't obvious (I was told that she could have had an apple or an orange, or some granola before the lunch menu started - I didn't see any of these items and also don't like being dictated to what I can or can't feed my child). The lunch options for children aren't especially healthy (mac and cheese, fish fingers and chips, sandwich with pom bears etc). The options also don't take into account allergies. In addition they don't provide baby food so please don't tell me not to bring food for my child. It's a real shame as it could be a nice place for mums with kids to visit for lunch, if the management put in a dedicated pram parking area (it's big enough!) and the waiting staff didn't dictate what food we should be feeding our children. However when they took away the childrens' play area alarm bells should have rung - the management are obviously only interested in attracting the more elderly crowd. You might as well take away the high chairs too so we really get the message. Sadly we won't be visiting again unless you change your ridiculous policy on bringing food for little ones.

We rated this place 'poor' when we popped in for lunch earlier this year and said we'd never visit again. Well we (four of us) made the mistake of having lunch here again, but this time it was even worse. It's not cheap either for a pretty basic garden centre. There were five specials of the day marked up on the chalk board. Someone in the kitchen had obviously been on the right course because they were all written up to sound like Michelin star meals. We knew they wouldn't be, but nonetheless fell into the trap. My wife and I ended up with what was effectively ratatouille with some chicken boiled up in it. It was placed on one half of a huge piece of thick dry flatbread with a dollop of rice on the other half. It was such a strange concoction and needless to say we left most of it. Despite the portion of ratatouille it was too dry and boring to bother with. The other two meals were very poor too, but I've already spent too long reviewing this place to go into further detail. If I end up eating here again it's because I've lost my marbles. I apologise to the nice ladies who wait on for this awful review - you are all very nice.

Always usually very nice but unfortunately not on this occasion, I ordered the flat white, there was lots of froth which as the cup was very small meant not a lot of coffee. The cake choice was dismal and all the sponges looked heavy. I opted for a cupcake, the sponge was was so dense, dry and heavy. The cafe is a nice area, nice atmosphere. Very clean and tidy.

We have been to this Garden Centre many many times over the past few years and have had many meals at their Olive Tree Cafe. Today we again went there and had breakfast again. Actually we had the half portion breakfast but don't be fooled, for most appetites it's plenty. Especially as this breakfast comes with toast and tea or coffee. The other meals for lunch are varied and change daily, but snacks and afternoon teas are also available. A very good choice as well. The service was also of an excellent standard and the Cafe assistant from Adelaide went above and beyond in searching out our neighbour who was with us, in returning her sweeteners and Coffee Mate she had left on the table. This Garden Centre is worth visiting and the Olive Tree Cafe is worthy of your custom. Try it!

My wife have been coming here for years and it had always been that special little place were we could enjoy coffee and a cake in the afternoon or a lunchtime snack. Service was always friendly and efficient and food was excellent quality at reasonable prices. A couple of coffees and cakes for under a tenner. Then the expansion started. The additional seating areas were a really cosy extension without any of the other services being impacted. Then one time we returned and the total refurb had taken place. The friendly service had now been replaced with a motorway services “put it on a plate yourself” facility and the choice of cakes had become limited. Where was the lime cheesecake? The lemon meringue? We remained loyal but visits became less frequent. I found the big increase in tables meant high levels of noise and really difficult to hear as I am deaf. Then a couple of weeks ago we visited again on a Saturday afternoon. It was just before 3pm and it was not particularly busy. I went to the “put it on a plate yourself” counter and found very little choice in cakes. Carrot cake (there’s always Carrot cake left everywhere we go) and a couple of pre-sliced layered sponge cakes with icing. I was not impressed but choose two pieces of the sponge cake having got my own tray and plates. I went to the drinks section, sliding my tray around the counter a la motorway services where I was met by two members of staff supposedly serving drinks. But they were more interested in their conversation. One stopped talking and asked me what I wanted but the other kept up the conversation. I ordered a filter coffee and a Cappuccino, both large, and it took 3 attempts before she repeated it back to me correctly. She was just not listening, too busy listening to her colleague. I was then asked if I wanted hot or cold milk with the filter coffee. I asked for hot so she gave me cold. I asked again for hot so her colleague (who had now started to assist) provided a small jug of hot milk and so did the other. I now had 1 cold milk and 2 hot. The coffee was poured and she realised she hadn’t put any saucers out. Then it came time to pay. I was asked for a few pence short of £15 for a couple of coffees and cakes. I was a bit taken aback, it was only coffee and cake. I could get two full meals at Craigside Inn for that money. I carried my “serve yourself” tray to where my wife was sitting and we made a start. The cake was sickly sweet and dried out from being pre-sliced and left uncovered. My wife couldn’t eat hers. I had paid a lot of money for mine so I was going to eat it come what may. But it was not an enjoyable experience. I asked my wife how her coffee was and she said it was stone cold and so was the so-called hot milk.We just got up and left, really disappointed. I understand the business wants to maximise profits and build on the popularity gained over the years but it has now lost some of the very attributes that gave it that popularity. I’ll have to cross this one off my list, I can get poor service and stale, pricey cakes in town.I hope they can improve.

We stopped at this lovely garden centre with a view to spending my gift vouchers but the cafe looked so good that we had lunch too. It was absolutely fantastic. Between the four of us we had; burger, chicken Caesar salad, BLT and salmon and prawn salad. All were excellent. We shared ginger cake and rocky road for dessert and that was equally excellent. I cannot rate this cafe ( and the garden centre within which it sits) more highly

Called for Sunday lunch ,Plentiful well cooked tasty food, Whilst we only had time to browse the covered area of the garden centre it was well laid out and had some attractive items for sale. Have purchased some healthy plants at the right price in the past.

It's been a while since I've been to the Olive Tree and in the meantime it's had a revamp and it I remember right has been extended to include more tables and seating. My recent visit was for Sunday lunch and I have to say as Sunday lunch's go this was top quality. I got two thick cut slices of very lean beef in a rich gravy, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and parsnips and then a selection of veg served in a separate bowl. It was very good and it was no surprise to see that the dining area was pretty much packed out

My daughter and I visited for afternoon tea. When we enquired about it the assistant asked if we had booked - we hadn’t as we weren’t aware we had to as nowhere on the website or advert did it say booking required. We were told in no uncertain terms they were too busy to make afternoon tea. Disappointed in the tone in which we were spoken to. We have visited many times in the past as we live locally but will never set foot in this cafe again.

I visited the cafe with a group of mum friends for a coffee and some food at lunch time. We had 2 prams with us and 3 young babies (all of whom were either in their prams or on our laps). We all 4 of us had meals and drinks which were lovely. The halloumi salad in particular was very tasty. The cafe was reasonably busy so we had tucked ourselves on a side table out of the way.

I visit the Olive Tree frequently because their food and service are second to none. The breakfasts are by far the best in the area and provide good value for money and the top class Heartland Coffee provides a delicious coffee hit.

Ended up here after a theatre show. There was only a small selection of sandwiches but I enjoyed mine and the coffee was good. The staff were lovely. It's basic, it isn't cheap but it was OK.

We decided to book for dinner as other restaurants in the area that we wanted were booked up. So glad they were, food was amazing, staff really friendly, great ambience, had a lovely evening.

Visited on a Friday evening with Husband and two children. Food was reasonably priced, (fish and chips £10 on a Friday) lovely and all homemade, including the chicken nuggets. Jaffa cake Sundaes were lovely, although should come with a warning! They are huge and one is enough for at least two adults. Would've been nice to have a proper drinks menu with all the drinks they do. But overall great food and service, we will return.
