Old Watch House in Ceredigion

We were seated quite quickly however, the lady serving did seem to be struggling with the 3-4 tables that were already seated and service was slow. As a result we decided to order a bottle of wine save having to keep ordering by the glass. After a while the food turned up which was lovely however, the vinegar was empty on the table and there were no other condiments. We tried to get the ladies attention but to no avail. At which point my friend picked one up off another table as our food was starting to go cold. I managed to finally get the waitresses attention and asked for some Mayo and was given a pitiful 2 sachets to share between us….(I’m a girl who likes her Mayo when it comes to chips so not happy). At this point we mentioned about the vinegar and and got some remark back about being lucky the bottle had been disinfected as though we had just taken the ultimate risk with our lives. We finished our food which was really nice. We at that point noticed they were closing which seemed an odd time of day. The lady then proceeded to stand there with her hand on her hips staring at us with a look of doom whilst we chugged down a half bottle of wine in desperation to get out of there. We tried to make light of things by saying we were going to get pretty drunk downing the wine this fast to which she remarked we were doing a good enough job of that ourselves…which I thought was a little presumptuous! We quickly left. Would not dine there again

Food was delicious and arrived fast.. we ordered a bottle of wine to go with our food, unfortunately we didn't know or get informed they were closing 40 minutes later, the waitress was very rude and as soon as 5 o'clock came she stood watching us with her hand on her hips, she let the place down to be honest.

They had obviously made an effort to make a tasty and interesting vegan meal. Highly recommended. Oh, and the view from the outside deck is amazing!

We went in on a boiling hot day and it was lovely to sit in the cool and see the amazing view. Staff were lovely and we all enjoyed our food

We visited New Quay looking for a nice place to have some lunch. We waited at the foot of the steps to the outdoor eating area for ages while the 2 disinterested waitresses finally showed us to a table. Before we sat down for food we were told there was a 40 minute wait for food because they were so busy. Being right by the sea, my partner ordered Whitebait, only for the waitress to return 5 minutes later to say there was no more whitebait left! The place had only been open for 30 minutes at this point. The food we ordered turned up 15 minutes later and the vast majority of it was inedible. The waitress came with the bill and dint even ask why we hadn’t eaten the food because she couldn’t care less which showed in her general demeanour the whole time we were there. do yourself a favour and dodge this pathetic excuse for a restaurant which is also breaking the law by not allowing customers to use their toilet facilities. my partner tried to use the toilet and she was asked to go and use the public toilets in the square opposite as they couldn’t be bothered to keep cleaning their toilets for customers!, Totally underwhelmed

Finally managed to get a table as it was rammed all week. The mussels were as good as I’ve had anywhere. Stone cold San Miguel. Kids loved their food. If you can get in try it. Great service too. Only down side you have to use the public toilets across the road.

Fantastic food, staff always friendly and helpful. They cater for vegans too. Their vegan triple club sandwich was amazing!

This was the only place we could find to eat indoors after 3pm that were still serving a full meal.We ordered baguettes and one side of fries and another with crisps.The baguette was huge and full to bursting. The filling choices were great too from basic cheese or ham salad to our choices of goats cheese, beetroot chutney and crispy bacon and halloumi, avocado and apricot chutney! Both were cooked perfectly and tasted incredible.The crinkle cut fries were delicious too.We had two soft drinks and the bill came to under £19 which was a bargain.The staff were friendly and helpful and we would highly recommend eating here.The views over the beach were lovely to.

Best meal I have had since being on holiday. I had a chicken and bacon salad. Was fabulous. Plenty of chicken, olives, peppers, and the usual suspects. Also a side of sweet potato fries. Crispy and crunchy. The other person had a cooked breakfast and the plate was clear. You also have a few sugar free drinks which as a new diabetic was fab. Picked up a couple of your delicious looking cakes for my parents and they said they were beautiful. Thanks for the great food and great view. Many other restaurants could take a leaf out of your book.

Vegan and veggie very happy with our lunch freshly made. Enjoyed our take away lunch on our walk along the coastal path.

Great location with polite young friendly staff. Basic food reasonable prices and fabulous views. A return trip at some point would be nice.

The Old Watch HouseNice outdoor seating area at the top with lovely views across the beach to the right of the pier. Based in a good location just a short walk from pier/beach area. Brilliant service from the staff. The food was great, the loaded fries were well worth the cost as they were delicious. Drinks were cool and served nicely. A good choice of food and drink on the menu, we would return again. I was pleased with the Covid precautions in place, all the benches/tables were wiped down regularly, etc.

Lovely atmosphere, great food, sea views, friendly service, clean environment, never dissappointed, highly recommended

Excellent location on the headland overlooking New Quay beaches. Good menu choice, Good food, Very good service. Car park near by.

On arrival in the afternoon we decided to eat before booking into our hotel ,had a short wait for a table at the door ,staff were very friendly and stuck to the Covid rules .food and drink was good ,woulduse again .

After wandering around New Quay we found that not many places were open except this cafe. It’s the time of year where most shut down plus Covid. Entered following Covid restrictions and found it to be a pleasant cafe with a very good view. The food was good and reasonable priced. Only thing was there are no toilets however there are some public ones across the road. Note to anyone visiting, the town has closed off the Main Street to the harbour due to Covid. There is a one way system so it seemed you could not drive to the harbour. Parking is hard work on street. We found by accident after walking into the town the car park which is not well signed. Blink and you miss the road to the car park.

Disappointing Sunday lunch, reminiscent of school dinners right down to the metal trays holding boiled cabbage and suede. No toilets - use the grubby public ones over the road. Uninterested service. Such a shame. We were really looking forward to it. Spend your money elsewhere. £30 for two awful lunches.

We stopped here for a drink on the terrace after a local walk. We observed the server, who was friendly & welcoming, meticulously clean every table, seat,unbrella pole & menu between guests which was so reassuring as I’m not sure every venue is taking this much care. We enjoyed watching the world go by & enjoying a nice Local beer - which was lovely .

Whilst I can’t say the place is “exceptional” it’s very good for what your paying. We left empty plates so we must have enjoyed the food. Biggest points to note: 1) very generous gravy portions, which I find rare in restaurants and I like my roast floating in gravy at home, 2) great vegetable selection, we had carrots, peas, cabbage and mashed suede, as well as roast AND boiled potatoes. It felt all very simple but delicious so if you want a fuss free, traditional roast this place is the spot. Just be warned it has no toilets, so instead you have to use the public toilets across the road which definitely weren’t the most pleasant!

ordered pinto of prawns . they were served in a pint glass with cold garlic butter sauce at the bottom of the glass. the prawns were 5 cm London not deveigned with the pooh still in the prawns. served with a side finger bath but should have been served with immodium . the Greeks salad had insipid vinaigrette and the staff were not receptive to asking for more dressing. poor seafood restraunt. whitebait was clumped and not fresh. how disappointing considering this is a fishing area

We visited the Old Watch House Twice during our holiday, once just for tea and cakes, the second time for lunch. Good service, a good menu choice (recommend the mussels and Welsh Lamb Pie), good quality and good value for money.

Very rude staff, like they couldn't be bothered won't be returning. No communication with your guests just left guessing!!!

Stopped in on the first day of our holiday. Mainly chose here as it has a lovely terrace area overlooking the sea.It was really busy outside but we were lucky enough to get a table quickly-a lot of people were having to wait by the time we left. I had a omelette which was lush and garlic bread was fantastic!! My partner had a burger and chips which he said was lovely too. Really enjoyed our meal here and would recommend and go back again.

After reading the good reviews and passing the restaurant we thought we would have breakfast to finish off what has been an amazing holiday .we had to wait for twenty minutes for a table despite there being empty tables once sorted we placed our order the tea was brought over without milk we Sat waiting patiently for our breakfast to arrive 30minutes later no food my husband reminded staff .The tea was undrinkable toast came buttered and what we thought would have been exceptional was sub standard hard eggs no mushrooms supermarket sausages with very poor service

Lovely views and the best breakfast in new quay!!!!! Only down side staff weren't as sociable as expected but if you are looking for good food to set you up for the day then this is the place to go!!!!

Visited the restaurant for lunch after a 1hr boat trip watching dolphins with our 5 year old daughter. The food was good and everyone was friendly. Would visit again if in the area on holiday

Stayed in the area for a week and visited this place twice for lunch. It seems popular with the locals, and there's clearly a reason! The menu is great with so much choice, and although it feels like a cafe, the food and service is restaurant level. The chips are absolutely excellent, and I can also recommend the lamb pie.Great food, lovely views, friendly staff and decent value prices. Would definitely recommend.

Called in on a grey Saturday morning for breakfast. Between us we had the Eggs Benedict and the Light Breakfast with 2 Americans. Service was quick and friendly and our plates were soon cleared. We had the added bonus of seeing the dolphins in the bay while we were eating breakfast. What’s not to like. Can recommend.

Lovely views when sitting outside, unfortunately service quite slow, tea brought out ages before food arrived and it was a very greasy breakfast, also not keen on the herbs/flavouring on the fried potatoes, didnt go well on a cooked breakfast with egg, beans and sauce etc

I’ve been four times for lunch and I’ll probably go back. I appreciate the fact I have a choice of vegan food and it’s always good quality and a good portion size. I had the vegan burger and loved it! Always appreciate a place that offers vegan cheese too. It’s in a great location overlooking the town and the sea.

We called in here today at almost closing time, the staff were so lovely, telling us to order what we wanted it was fine as we had come in before they had turned the sign round. I have worked in catering and know how annoying it is to have someone turn up just as you are about to close, but the staff were nothing but reassuring and so so nice. Our meals were delicious and we were not rushed at all, we did kind of eat fast though as it was not fair to the staff to stay longer on our behalf. I just want the owners to know what outstanding staff they have, not one of them rolled their eyes, tutted, or made a single indication that we were a pain. The young man and two ladies that served us were just lovely. I am sure had we taken longer over the meal they would have been just as nice. Absolute credit to you they are.

I had a good meal here. The service was friendly and pretty fast. There was a good selection on the menu including vegetarian and vegan options. I would eat here again.

We popped in here for a drink and a snack. My partner had a yoghurt coated flapjack/cake and I had a Vegan Chocolate Brownie, which was delicious! (The brownie was a big hit with our toddler, who kept asking me for 'more cake!')Reasonable prices, friendly and efficient staff, with a nice sea view.

We had a good appetite after our dolphin spotting trip and enjoyed avocado and poached eggs followed by cappuccino and raspberry flapjack. Good choices on the menu including all day breakfasts. Window overlooks sea vista. Friendly service.

Great atmosphere and a view to die for. Food excellent and restaurant quality. Will definitely be coming back. Nice steaks do chips.

Stopped for a quick drink. Myself and my daughter had a milkshake and my husband had a coke. Milkshake was nice. A male staff member seemed a bit hostile, but the lady who was helping was extremely nice. We sat on the terrace with our dog, pleasant views per the bay.

Went to New quay for the day while on holiday so called into the old watch house for something to eat.this is such a lovely place lovely tasting food very friendly staff I would highly recommend this restaurant

We popped in for lunch (light Bite) over the weekend. The views from the outside eating area were perfect. The food helpings were bigger than expected and good value for money. The inside bar area needs some updating to make it look more inviting / professional as does the 'casual Summer staff' who seemed to be larking around rather than serving customers.

Very busy. No gluten free choice available except jacket potato. Quite a poor option. Food ok but due to lack of GF options, we won’t be back.

We only dropped in for tea/coffee and snack but were also impressed by the larger meals we saw coming out. Extensive menu, OK-priced. Coffee good. Sweet treats excellent. Get a table overlooking the beach/sea if you can. Service efficient if not overly friendly.

Popped in for lunch at about noon yesterday on a hot and sunny day - New Quay was buzzing. We were before the lunchtime rush and easily found a table. Very nice ambiance and great range of dishes. I had cold ham, eggs, chips and small salad. The ham was excellent, freshly carved and a very large portion. My wife had the vegetarian club sandwich, which she declared was lovely.

Dating a vegan often causes issues with where we can eat but lots of great options for me and her made dining here a pleasure. Very friendly staff and a great view out the window of the sea.

Visited on recommendation and was very happy. Was able to have our order as a take away - fab coffee and Welsh cakes with friendly service!

We enjoyed a tasty lunch here. Service was quick and cheerful. Between us we had a breakfast bap, a cheese and onion toastie and a sausage and onion baguette. All served fresh and were tasty. It is a no frills sort of place, honest simple food done well. Nice views of the harbour too.

Came for a early dinner before a paddle boarding class. I wasn't expecting much on the vegan front but I was really surprised! They had a whole well labelled section on their menu (see photo) and i was spoilt. I had the chilli bean cheeseburger complete with vegan cheese. It was a huge portion!!! Lovely crusty roll with a side salad and sooo many chips! I love chips so that was great for me. I will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again.

Visited New Quay, midweek, on a relatively quiet afternoon. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and an excellent ( extensive ) menu. Good choice of fish. We ordered Silver Hake with prawns, in white wine sauce and battered cod, chips and salad.

We sat on the outside balcony and had tea and a sandwich. Good range of choices on the menu, very basic food, reasonably priced, and good quick service. The staff we met were very friendly and chatty which was lovely.

Fab view.. great customer service..excellent breakfast..staff couldn't do enough for us..Lime crab downstairs should come up here to find out what proper customer service is..b

Well, what do i say??? Ordered a toasted sandwich..bacon brie and cranberry.....hot inside cold out, took a bite..then sent it back apparently they just do toast and put middle in after....thats not actually a toasted sandwich....lady broughr me sandwich back stating all done fresh... really????? It was same sandwich that I had took bite out before heated up.....promptly gave it back to her and said I feel a review coming on.........don't bother going there unless desperate or pissed!!!!

Called for morning coffee. They were more interested in serving breakfasts and coffee took age to be served. When it came it was weak and flavourless, not the fresh ground Italian taste advertised.

Ate a lunch here recently as it has vegan options. Vegan shepherds pie was tasty and was even offered vegan cheese for the mash topping, so maybe you could have a toastie/ sandwich with vegan cheese (which would be good), but I didnt see that on the printed menu. Did I say vegan enough? Thanks.

The place looks quite small from outside, but surprisingly larger inside. Pleasant, friendly staff and good food. Terrace outside overlooking the road busy with people and traffic. Vegetarian and vegan options, I opted for very tasty battered haloumi, washed down with a pint of San Sebastian. Reasonable cost too.

What a service on a cold wet Saturday morning. My partner and I were very impressed with how quick you brought our lovely breakfasts to the table. Hot and delicious. Full to the brim. Lovely tea too. We will return

Had the veg burger,fantastic. Usually bad in most places,this was home made and lovely. Lovely setting overlooking the sea with friendly and attentive staff. Good teas and coffees too,also licensed to sell alcohol. Would highly recommend.

Stopped at the Old Watch Tower for lunch. My husband, myself, daughter and son in law had a great lunch. Staff were lovely and attentive. Food was delicious and hot. Sat at a table in the window overlooking the beach.

Whilst away with my youngest son on a rugby tour we ventured into New Quay and decided on this venue for lunch.

I visited the Old Watch House yesterday, which was a busy, sunny Sunday.

Great views and well priced, good honest good. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful! Definitely the best place to enjoy lunch while watching the dolphins in the bay.

Stopped here for lunch lovely friendly waitress, food good value and very tasty. Lovely to be able to sit outside and great place if you have a dog.

Great place for dolphin watching -indoors out of the wind or outside on the terrace. Good vegetarian breakfasts -quickly served.

Very friendly staff when we entered. Went back a few times. Nice drinks and good cakes. There is an outdoor area when it's nice. Inside there is views of the beach and if they are in the right place, the dolphins

The restaurant was clean and catered for vegans both breakfast and dinner menu and offered soya milk, wouldn’t recommend the mocha as was just like boiling water chocolate and coffee wasn’t the best

Great selection of food for all ages. Good choice for the kids. Lots of seafood choices we had the chowder, whitebait, cockles and muscles all great. Friendly staff service a little slow but it was a very sunny busy Friday.

Visited today for early lunch. Sat outside on the terrace. Good choice of food and breakfast served all day. Was served straight away and the food and drinks served swiftly. All was delicious, the staff were attentive and friendly and spoke Welsh grêt de! Diolch am ginio blasus!

Friendly helpful staff, food excellent and well presented, prices resonable,we usually end up with fish and chips in New Quay, the variety on offer at the Watch House made a nice change, we shall call again with our visitors in the main season.

I visited here for lunch and week ago with my daughter and granddaughter while staying in Newquay for a few days. The place itself was really quiet but it was lovely.There was a nice highchair for my granddaughter and also actual baby cutlery which I thought was a nice touch .I had a chicken curry which was really tasty and my daughter had a club sandwich which she said was great and my granddaughter had chicken goujons which were also lovely. The only downside to this place is the fact that there is no baby changing unit.

Loey food *potato and leek soup was awsome*, lovely friendly staff. Great spot out of the wind on a sunny spring day

Being relatively local we stopped in here for the first time. It was adequate, nothing special. Don't appreciate them letting the table behind us have a dog with them, and the lol level wimpering was appreciated even less, and it was not a disability dog performing a function. We are not anti animals having dogs, cat, horses and poultry ourselves, but in a restaurant is not good. We will not return.

Had a coffee and cake here when visiting Newquay. We took a seat on the rooftop area, which has excellent views over the beautiful Cardigan Bay. In the distance one could catch a glimpse of dolphins swimming. Although we only had coffee I looked at the menu and it was reasonably priced. The coffee and cake were good as was the service.

Stopped in for lunch with family after being drawn in by the delicious looking menu. Greeted with a smile and very friendly service. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals - all proper good home cooked food. I had the curry which was melt in your mouth delicious! Can’t wait to come back and sample more of the menu!

We always pop in when we are in New Quay. we always have a nice welcome and the coffee is to our taste. the views from the windows are spectacular and on occasions one can see the dolphins.

The perfect location for food and drink, right next to the harbour. We had a pleasant light lunch of a Brie & bacon toasted sandwich . A pint of Worthington bitter made it even better. Staff provided good service.

Stopped here for lunch quite a large menu to choose from. Impressive view from where we were sat. Husband had the small breakfast I had the bacon omelette rather gristly bacon did not enjoy it.

We stopped here for a light lunch. The restaurant is on a terrace right by the harbour. It allows dogs which suits us just fine. We had sandwiches which were very nice. A good range of sandwiches with a choice of breads and even toasted options.

We stopped in for lunch at this restaurant that we’d visited many years ago. It’s lovely, comfortable decor is very inviting. Fantastic views over the quay. Very tasty food with plenty of variety. Would definitely visit again.

We enjoyed a reasonable priced Sunday dinner. Very nice meat and fresh vegetables. Very polite staff.

After enjoying a trip to watch the dolphins on a rare good day we decided to eat al fresco here. Lovely view and potentially good menu. First two beers weren’t available but third was. My wine was available and very nice - asked to order another glass and told they had run out of house wine! What! Alternative was ok but altogether felt very “end of season”. Chowder and moules were both ok but nothing exceptional- bread was lovely. The view made it - even dolphins visual at one time but wouldn’t rush back.

Lovely toasties, coffee and really efficient service. The lady waiting on the tables was so lovely and welcoming....it was a lovely finish to a great day in New Quay

Hi just a quick one .We had tea out on their outside decking and saw the dolphins in the bay !! I returned the next morning for a bacon sandwich .Really nice it was !!!

Popped onto the roof with dog for a coffee and cake, prices are good coffee was very good, staff very attentive and quick, was very busy good place
