Old Sun Inn in High Peak

Lovely old local pub, you feel warm and sheltered from a miserable day outside. Good selection of ales, but also happy to provide a pot of tea if required. Staff very polite and welcoming. We ate there I had a cheese and bacon burger, partner had nachos. Not shy on portion sizes, in fact my other half wondered if hers was supposed to be a sharing platter! Food was good and obviously filling, no sweets for us, really enjoyed our visit

Great Sunday roast with vegetarian options

A very busy place. Always best to book well in advance if you want food. A good deal on a bottle of wine if you order mains. Cheeseboard is great. A+++

Cosy pub, nice atmosphere, never had any food so cannot comment on that. But it did look plentyfull, from what I could see from other customers plates.

Popped in for a pint. Lively pub. Very popular with a good atmosphere. Friendly staff and warm surroundings. Nice pint, good clean toilets. Had already eaten so can't judge the food but an enjoyable evening. Thank you.

Amazing food, good beer, and an amazing atmosphere. The waitress we had had a bit of attitude on her, but it didn't detract from the experience so much to lose a star.

Awesome Sunday dinner again....this is our 2nd visit to Buxton and we found this pub,brilliant experience so we booked again. The beef was stunning plus all the home cooked veg (yum yum) Many thanks again 👍👍

We visited on a day out to Buxton and booked in advance. It was really busy so it's worth booking ahead. The food and service were excellent. Highly recommended.

A comfortable and cozy pub with some delicious food. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, making our first evening in Buxton very nice. I had a juicy medium rare rib-eye steak that was served exactly how it was described. The chips were nice and crispy and soft inside and they steak was cooked to perfection. If i came back to Buxton one day this would be my first choice to eat out, i highly recommend 🙌

Had Sunday lunch here. The food was good. However, the beef was tough. The place itself is very historic and the service was good. Would recommend booking as they are very busy.

Nice pub, dog friendly, cosy small rooms. One minor gripe...WiFi insists on logging in and giving up personal details, which I refuse to do, but SIM coverage is good for 3 and Vodafone.

Had a lovely pie meal here, the staff were very helpful and friendly and looked after me as a single female eating alone really well, will definitely be going back, sorry picture is of half eaten steak and stilton pie, very full pie and was delicious

Very tasty food, friendly and efficient service, a faultless experience - what more could you want! Mac n cheese and sourdough garlic bread was spot on and the beef Chilli with nachos and cheese combined was the right side of warming and delish. Thank God we don’t live anywhere near here (otherwise we’d be skint and double the size)!

My partner and I had The Old Sun Inn suggested as a likely place to eat as we hadn’t booked anywhere before getting to Buxton. So off we went. It’s a very warm and kind of dark place but cozy and inviting. As were the bar staff who got us sat down within a few minutes of arriving. I love steak and ale pie and use it as a benchmark where quality is concerned. I have to say, this is probably the best one I’ve ever had, absolutely delicious and lots of it. The portion sizes for both me and Sarah were huge. I literally had to waddle to the opera house, I was so beautifully full. She was just as impressed with her vegetarian something or other as well. The staff were wonderful too and so helpful. I’d go back here anytime. Try it. But don’t be in a hurry to get anywhere by foot after. It’s so good, you’re gonna wanna finish it !! You’re welcome 😀

Visited this pub on a wet Thursday afternoon after a day out and so glad we did. If you like cosy traditional pubs with real fires, real ale and a real atmosphere then this is for you. Had the mixed grill sharing platter with my son and the other half had a superb beef and Stilton baguette with all the trimmings, a few pints each plus soft drinks later and the bill only came to £62! Add to that superb customer service and you have a must have place to visit whenever in Buxton, just wish I lived nearer!

Another fantastic pie best around . There are great choices, I can recommend the steak and stilton served with tasty thick chips, peas and gravy

Always fantastic food especially the pies! It's such a lovely country pub vibe in the upper part of buxton. Lovely food, great pints of pedigree and great service. The lady think she was called Susan ( she was from liverpool) who was serving us was lovely, happy to help with everything we needed. It was really busy but the waitress was so helpful, we have been in the past when it's busy and it's taken a while for service but this time we could not complain at all.

Love this pub, staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is really good, eaten here three times and it's been brilliant. Prices are very good also.

We popped in for a drink as we noticed the pub was dog friendly and had our two dogs with us. We loved the place, a traditional old pub with all it's nooks and crannies. We felt very welcome and relaxed and ended up staying for a meal. We had the pie and chips sharing plate, it was absolutely delicious and a really great price. The dogs were given water, treats and plenty of fuss. They loved it!! We were too full for pudding, maybe next time!

Dropped in for a Sunday roast as it was near our holiday cottage. Superb roast lunch with great service and a log fire . Super friendly staff and a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Was quite busy so advisable to book through their website. Will return when in the Buxton area.

We decided to treat ourselves to a delicious meal here and were not disappointed. Excellent service finding us a table without making a reservation (I’d recommend doing so, we got lucky!). Lovely staff, environment, atmosphere and merriment. We got the ‘snug’ and were mostly helped by Evie, thank you… Absolutely brilliant, thank you.

The Old Sun Inn was the perfect place to stop after a day roadtripping around The Peak District. The fire was crackling, the drinks were refreshing and the lovely lady behind the bar was most welcoming. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. I love Buxton. I wish I could live there.

Been here multiple times, our favourite for pub grub in Buxton. The pub is lovely and cosy, staff so friendly and the food is brilliant hearty pub food. The pies are the best i've ever had and jam packed with filling- we often get the pie sharer which is just enough and great value. The sunday roasts are pretty good- i'm very fussy with beef and its not the best (i.e. doesnt fall apart) but isnt really tough either- just ok. Also love that its dog friendly!

Gorgeous, cosy pub, big portions and definitely not haunted (apparantly). Will definitely be back to get merry by the fireplace.

Excellent Burns Night supper and quiz!

A lovely warm welcoming pub, with log burner and comfortable seating. We booked ahead for Sunday, not knowing the area and glad we did. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. We enjoyed a Sunday Roast with a couple of drinks. Dogs are welcomed too, nice touch providing bowls of water and the odd treat. If we visit the area again, we'd definitely go back.

Wonderful service, great food (they accidentally have me a vegan chilli burger, I didn't notice and it was great) and very friendly locals. Looking forward to coming back with the family.

After a last minute plan change, booking for a large group (18) was so efficient. Really easy pre-order session and wonderful service on the day. We had our own "room" area with grouped tables. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating.. Food was generous and delicious. I had a fish goujon baguette with soup and there wasn't a single thing on my plate that wasn't enjoyable and well made. Our whole group enjoyed their food and had nothing but positive things to say. I would definitely come back again and would happily recommend to anyone looking for a warm, welcoming pub with good food.

We did a long hike in the Peak District and booked here for food on our way home to Birmingham. The pub was lovely, characteristic and inviting. They are dog friendly here and even gave our dog treats. There was a bit of confusion regarding our booking initially, but the staff soon dealt with it and had us seated in no time. The customer service was excellent and the food was beautiful and brought to our table promptly. I'm not local, but I wouldn't hesitate to visit again, next time we're in the Peak District!

Cosy , real fire, friendly service

Was staying in Buxton over the Xmas period for a short break. Absolutely loved this pub, it was so cosy and the team working there were very friendly and welcoming. Went for a couple of hours on Xmas day too while the turkey was cooking! It was lovely...wish we had a place like this at home.

Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff, roaring fire, superb food. We had a starter and main, and everything was really excellent. A perfect pub!

The outside looked nice, inside looked like it could have been enjoyable. Unfortunately we weren't afforded the chance to have our one drink. Three of us entered and sat down at 3:30pm, the table had a sign saying 'reserved @ 6:30pm' on it. A barmaid came straight over no niceties and said sorry this table is reserved. She then went on to say that the reserved sign had been swapped with a two seater table which said 5pm on it. So we left. We weren't asked if we were in for drinks or food, weren't offered other seating, or a wait time for another table. This wasn't the English pub experience we have had on our many travels. How unfortunate.

Just had the best homemade steak & ale pie and chips with mushy peas & gravy in Derbyshire, the pie was full to the top of meat absolutely gorgeous, pastry was light, must go here if your in buxton for a visit, nice cozy little pub with lovely staff and good service

Stopped here for lunch on a wet day, the welcome was friendly and the seating cosy. Ordered a goat's cheese "tart" and fish and chips. The tart is a slab of puff pastry with pesto and tomatoes on and a chucky slice of goat's cheese, served on top of a large pile of chips. A bit disappointing and difficult to eat with all chips underneath. Pleasant enough but not what I was expecting. The fish and chips were also deemed to be average.

Our Christmas meal with the Christmas menu. The staff as always were so friendly and helpful. The food was excellent especially the goats cheese tart. The value was excellent, 3 courses, drink on arrival, crackers (Christmas ones!), coffee and mince pie for after. Really good...

Pre booked a table as a group, and pre ordered food. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful interior. Very cosy and warm. Fantastic, friendly staff and speedy service too. Food was very nice there was plenty of it too! A good variety of options including a number of vegetarian options. An amazing selection of cocktails with a variety of more unique options too! Our group left well fed, and very pleased with the service. Would definitely visit again.

We came for Sunday lunch and had prebooked a table. I booked the pub because they seemed to be dog friendly and we had Gizmo the dog with us. It was wet and windy in Buxton but we had a very warm welcome, being seated...

Four of us plus dog had a lovely Sunday lunch here. The pub with it's blazing fire and traditional interior was very welcoming on a rainy afternoon. The service was prompt and friendly. Would highly recommend.

We were a party of 4 and sat in the room behind the bar. All the food was very tasty and the service was very quick despite being quite busy. Lovely atmosphere and great all the traditional features of 17th century pub remain.

Cosy, dog-friendly pub with excellent food and good selection of drinks including cocktails and beers. We came here for dinner on a foggy Friday at the end of October and it was so good we came back again for dinner the next day! The menu has the usual suspects: scampi, burgers, Mac and cheese, but also home made pies. We chose the cheese and onion pies which come with mushy peas (or garden if you prefer), chunky chips and gravy. The pies were perfect and proved to be a substantial dinner - just right after a foggy afternoon's walking. Our son in law went for the gammon and turkey pie and was equally impressed. The Mac and cheese with (and without) bacon was lovely and came with a good amount of salad and a couple of slices of delicious garlic bread. Our Saturday evening dinner was just as good. The beers are well kept and the espresso martinis (instead of coffees) were very good. Service was friendly (a bit slow on Friday) and helpful. Everywhere was clean and all of the dogs were well behaved. Our dinners were good value for money and we will return when next visiting Buxton.

This was a horrible experience, my food was cold and it tasted like it had been left on the counter for the whole day. I would not recommend this to any travelers.

Visited Buxton for a few days. Lovely old inn, charming, warm welcome, cosy lighting, good choice of drinks and a great menu. Ordered fish and chips and the chilli con carne. Oh my, what a portion! Came with loaded nachos too. Seriously full after eating...

Just moved to Buxton and came here with friends on a Saturday afternoon. Lovely food, great atmosphere. Our waitress was Meghan, a shy very young girl but she was so lovely... attentive and warm. I'm definitely going to make this place my regular from now...

We have just had an amazing meal, Served by amazing staff, In an amazing location. This Inn is a hidden gem it's a difficult decision do we say nothing and keep it hidden or speak up? We spoke up, but it's really AMAZING
