Come very hungry….the lunches are HUGE….as well as quirky. Not the place for a straightforward sandwich, these are sandwiches with attitude, so may not be for some. The dirty fries are amazing….I had to take half my sandwich home, Also the cakes are all gf and delicious.

We called in here for a spot of lunch for my partners birthday having walked the Llamas at West Wight Alpacas. Lunch service was coming to an end but they fitted us in OK. The menu comes in a newspaper format which is novel with some pretty good menu james for the dishes all pertaining to railway theme. I had the firebox sandwich was packed with meat and cheese and loads of pickle. It tasted very much like a New Yorker but with different meats. Partner had the cheese based sandwich presented like a huge fish cake full of different cheeses and on a bed of pesto and tomato ketchup homemade sauce. We were both stuffed we didn't eat our dinner later that evening. The whole experience was fab.

Wowzas - what a fabulous breakfast we had! The attention to detail at Off The Rails is superb, from the clever way the menu is put together ( no spoilers.. ) to the way in which the dishes are constructed. It takes a lot for my dad to use superlatives other than fine, and whilst eating his veggie breakfast called ‘Mind the Gap’ he described the sausages as ‘perfectly cooked’ and the beans as ‘delightful’! I thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Steam Train’ breakfast and the chefs deserve all the accolades and praise that comes their way. The whole team were yet again excellent - nothing is too much trouble and the cohesion and communication between the staff means the service here is brilliant. This most recent visit happened to fall on my birthday and there were special touches from start to finish which really made the experience and meal extra special! The location of Off The Rails means you eat with a beautiful view of the Yarmouth marshes - with flora and fauna providing a stunning backdrop. Thank you to everyone - we will be back for breakfast, brunch or lunch very soon!

Visited Off the Rails earlier this month and had a lovely lunch with my husband and friends. I thought I would write a review and checked previous reviews and was extremely surprised to see the bad notice about the service to wheelchair users. My husband is a wheelchair user and we have had nothing but helpful and courteous service from the staff. We always book in advance and are usually given extra space round the table to allow for a wheelchair. The staff are always friendly and accommodating to our needs. We have been visiting the restaurant for several years now and have had good service on every occasion. If you are a wheeelchair user and take notice of the earlier review you are missing out on good food and an enjoyable experience.

At last! After living here nearly 2 years I ate at this wonderfully quirky restaurant set in an old railway station/waiting room etc. Fabulous menu set in a “newspaper”! Huge range of drinks & food, all priced in accordance with most places of this calibre. Service was outstanding from Tom and also from other team members. I had a cheese sandwich “unlike any other” and my goodness so it was - but no spoilers here. Desserts were lush as well, Chef clearly has a good palate & food was presented beautifully. A special shout out for the hot chocolate, definitely one of the best I’ve had. Highly recommend but I suspect booking is recommended in high season.

I wish all pub owners would take their chefs on a day out to this restaurant to actually show them what can be done without using a microwave in a small kitchen. The food they serve is excellent. I must have been there over a dozen times and I have always had a great meal. You would have to go to a restaurant that changes £50-£100 for a main to eat better. They have a relatively small menu (probably a dozen mains), but this is what you want. You want a chef/kitchen that knows how to cook 12 great meals rather than having to cook 30 meals badly using a microwave because they have everything on the menu to cater for every-one. Please don't change. I love this restaurant and tell every-one about you.

We arrived at the restaurant after completing the walk that was suggested by the owners to find that, despite the walk being suggested by the restaurant we would not be allowed in due us and our dogs being slightly muddy. This seems strange as the restaurant is advertised as totally dog friendly and since the walking route was suggested by the restaurant owners, you would expect they would know the route would be muddy. We arrived hungry and tired and despite arriving at least an hour before the time advertised for last orders. We were told they were not, in fact serving food in a snobbish fashion. I would recommend not bothering to visit this place as there are many other nice places in Yarmouth.

This is so good. Off the usual waterfront and on the path of the disused railway line. The station has been converted jnto a wonderful restaurant/Cafe. The menu is inventive printed in the style of an old newspaper. The atmosphere was friendly and cosy. But let's not forget why we wrnt....The food....Delicious. We had the vegan chix burger and the fish goujon sandwich. Well it was a fish goujon sandwich like no other. It had chips, mushrd peas and yummy tartar sauce. But rhe best bit was the mint vinegar pritzer. I'm a mint sauce on my mushy peas kind of person...so this just ticked all the boxes. So good.My husband got a caramel milkshake made with Mr Whippy ice cream topped with whipped cream and cherry. The inside of the glass was drizzled with extra caramel...so decedent! Give this place a visit for unique comfort food prepared really well and served freshh and hot. The young lady rhat served us was chatty, helpful and so lovely. An all round success.

Unfortunately the luggage burger has gone from being the best burger I ever ate (2 years ago) to the worst I've had... The burger was very salty and tangy, mainly tasting of piccoli... Couldn't taste any of the other components of the burger and the chips were also way too salty, nobody came over to ask how the meal was going, So I waited till the end to complain and was told because I waited till the end there was nothing they were willing to do. Waste of £18... I also find it hard to phathom that the a waitress took an order from my 3 year old, he asked for orange juice and she confirmed that with him without even asking us (the parents)... Which resulted in him being unhappy for the meal as we then had to say no. I think it'd be good if the customers were checked on more as I would of complained sooner... We had to wave and shout somebody over after trying to get their attention previously by waving Poor customer service for the price of the place, It was busy but some service for the price of £65 for our meal would be good. However my partner and son had a tasty meal. I also want to point out that the last time I came in was for a roast dinner of which I was extremely underwhelmed... Only veg was half a carrot, half a red onion and a small amount of some puree!? 3 roast potatoes a giant Yorkshire pudding and meat for what I remember to be £25 a head... Absolutely shocking... A perfect stop for breakfast! During our recent visit to the isle we stopped here twice for breakfast / brunch. Both times I had to have “The Steam Train” - meatloaf on toast topped with eggs and a masala hollandaise sauce. Perfection on a plate. They of course offer your more traditional full cooked breakfast, pancakes, and pastries too. Whilst we didn’t attend for their main menu, there was a lot to tempt us back in our next visit. I love their take on catering for children - rather than providing a deep fried / unhealthy kids menu, they provide children’s portions of the standard menu encouraging children to try new things. Fully dog friendly inside and out. Booking in advance is a must to avoid disappointment at this busy stop, but you will need to use a card and may be charged if you don’t then use your booking - something understandable for a small business. Parking can be tricky outside, but is only 5 minutes walk from the Yarmouth main P&D via a very pleasant path.

Nice place but don’t bother turning up anywhere up to an hour before they close. We turned up at 3pm and the staff seemed a bit off about us coming in. They said that they had stopped serving lunch but if we wanted we could have a coffee and cake. All fine. At 3:20 another couple came in and they basically tried to turn them away saying they are closing soon (in 40 minutes time - the sign on the door said last orders 3:45). When the man said that in-line they said they closed at 4pm the server said they could serve them but they’d only have 15 minutes to have their coffee and cake and they would have to sit outside. The man questioned as to why and the server said it was because they wanted to make sure all the tables where clean for close (it was only us in there at the time, all other tables had already been cleaned). Upon insisting they let the new couple sit down inside. Very cool place but poor service of what appeared to be summer staff who wanted to go home early really let this place down. Won’t be returning or recommending to others.

I had a nice experience of this place and don't want to leave a negative review. I hadn't really looked into the complexity of finding a near by parking space ahead of travelling here, so I guess that's on me, but leaving that here to flag for anyone else. I had a table booking which I was already running late for as I got stuck in IOW traffic (tractor) so I dropped my partner and one kid off ahead of travelling around the place to find the local pay and display. On this mini trip I witnessed a little of the local area which is very quaint. This place is very quirky and there is clearly a sense of the people who run the place really loving the whole theme. I'm perhaps a little negative on that front and am immediately suspicious of things being style over substance. Before ordering I popped to the toilet and witnessed a cloche being removed off a plate at lunch and rolled my eyes, but the family seemed to enjoy it so each to their own. Back to the table and I was slightly overwhelmed by the layout of the menu, and all the themed names, to the point of being frustrated when ordering of having to wade through the pages to find the drinks, but again maybe I'm not the right audience. I really commend the ethos and angle on the kids orders, where there isn't a segregated menu. But this is where I struggled though with wanting to leave a 3 star review here (but couldn't possibly be behind a low blow) as my partner and I decided to order all the same dish of the veggie burger. When it arrived the adults version came in a little box which I guess is novelty, but the kids just came on a plate, which I was confused by. Why if you go so bold with a statement on the kids being treated the same do you not put their burger in a novelty box? (Luckily my kids are pretty chilled out on this front, but they did question it themselves) they would have loved it, whilst I would rather a plate as I often cringe at a wooden board of that being a bit "try hard". The veggie burger was nice, at £18 it's certainly the most expensive veggie burger if have had and if I'm critical at taking the cost into account it's not a veggie burger I would have again. Service was fine, it's not table service which for the price of everything seemed strange. Overall it was okay, can't really leave a well rounded review as we only ordered the one dish. Other customers seemed over joyed at their food coming in an assortment of boxes, so that's clearly a thing that people like.

Going to Off The Rails is such a treat, the menu is quite small but every item is delicious. Their chef(s) are amazing and very creative, the staff are all friendly. Don't expect to get basic food here...I love the surprise element of ordering and...

Great little stopping point when on a walk or 5 mins up from the centre. Overlooking the floodplain and river. Huge variety of drinks and food looked good (although we didn't get any). Worth a visit. A doggy haven!

Lovely cafe in a great location with lovely views. Good spot to stop if you're cycling by but also not a long walk from Cowes.

Another fantastic experience at OTR. I had the waffles, syrup, bacon and eggs combo which was as good as I remember though my sister who had the same found it to sweet for her taste. My brothers had the more conventional breakfast and loved it. We all liked the railway memorabilia details of the restaurant

After waiting, in the sunshine, for a while for a table, a small round metal table and chairs became available. We sat, with the dog, and my husband went to look for a menu. It's a newspaper by the way... Total waste of our time...

This is my personal opinion and you should still form your own opinions by visiting in person. We went for breakfast. It was ok. I wasn't blown away. Some things I don't agree with: For £5 per person you can have your order fast tracked and jump in front of people who have been potentially waiting longer. Sorry. No. Service charge added to the bill of more than 10%? When did we become America? If I want to tip for great service I'll do it at my discretion. I'm glad I visited because I like to try new places, it's unlikely I'll return though.

We drove for an hour on our last day of our holidays to get to "off the rails", only to arrive and struggle to find parking, as they have no car park. It was 10.45 when we finally parked and entered the cafe, eagerly arriving to sample some breakfast only to be told for the next hour and quarter you could only have cake to eat was a great disappointment 😞 Mind you now I have read some of the owners responses to reviews on here I am glad that we never gave them our money. Just to put it out there I did not demand a table!

We had heard very good reviews for this restaurant and as we were holidaying on the IOW for the week we decided to give it a try. Obviously with July being holiday season, we considered it prudent to book a table. However, I did not...

Such a cool, quirky place. It’s a converted railway station on the cycle track and all themed e.g. the menus are a newspaper. Food looks delicious but I just had a frappuccino. Needed more / stronger coffee but would definitely revisit for food

A lot of thought has gone in to making this a dining experience to remember. From the setting to the food presentation. The food was excellent. Unique. Very dog friendly with a dog menu so they don't get left out.

Wow. Amazing place. Felt apprehensive that we were going to pay overprice for caff food. But wow was I wrong. Great, exciting food experience: my burger came served in luggage. The sandwich based meals were huge (!) with very tasty meat inside. Good coffee and nice open air atmosphere in a nicely decorated ex-train station. Funny sign in the men’s toilet.

Group of us were on holiday and looking for somewhere to eat and drink before going to Fever. The rest of the town was pretty quiet on a Saturday night but we came here and was happy with what we found. We didn’t have a booking and were let in. The decor was really nice. We ordered food on the app and it came quickly. I had the lasagna which was really nice and some chicken tacos which could have had more chicken in but were still nice. My boyfriend really didn’t like his chicken burger so wouldn’t recommend that. There was 2 for 1 cocktails all night which was amazing and they had a vast, interesting menu. However, some of the cocktails were very sickly and I started to feel quite sick and full after only 2 drinks. I wasn’t sure if this was down to the food or the sickliness of the drinks but it was probably both combined. I wouldn’t recommend having such a big meal before lots of cocktails! The staff weren’t overly friendly but got rid of empty glasses very quickly which was great. Overall, I would recommend going here if you’re looking for a night out on the island, as it’s probably a rare find in such a quite place.

Tuppenny Cafe on the Beachlocation-iconHillway RoadBritish
