Oak & Pastor in Islington

This is my local pub and have been often. Used to go to the Bingo on Thursday nights. I popped in on mother day and the owner was a bit intense, fussing over us a bit too much. It was the first time I seen her in there. I wrote a review saying not sure the owner was coping with it being busy. I went back on Good Friday and the owner was upstairs, seen us sitting down and came down and starting scolding me in front of my daughter about my review. She didn't apologise, but stood over us, corrected me and she isn't a manager, but the owner and her name is above the door. My daughter was like look, your obviously upset, we've just bought a drink so just give us a refund and we'll leave. The owner refused so we had to leave. The pub is alright when she isn't there. She's ruined it.

Food is always amazing when we go - on this occasion it was great but….. There is a sign outside clearly stating 2 for 1 pizzas on a Monday (that’s why we went) but we were told that the 2 for 1 deal wasn’t on because “there was a new chef” - surely doing extra pizzas would give them practice ?

If you like PIZZA you'll love here. Look at my images the visual speaks for itself... they taste as good as they look. Fresh ingredients, sourdough base, perfect quantity of toppings - generous without over load. We had 3 different and all the same great taste, I am salivating at the thought I can't wait to go back. Staff friendly, vibe chilled.

We sat in the lovely courtyard at the back of the pub for drinks and a meal. Nice chicken & bacon salad and fish & chips. Polite, friendly staff.

Delicious roast dinner in great atmosphere- staff were knowledgeable and kind about coeliac disease and enjoyed a delicious gluten free roast dinner with gravy with friends with no fuss. Wide range of options available and everyone I was with enjoyed their food. Recommended for those with allergies and without!

I'm a regular at this pub, due to it's location. Always have a fantastic night here, staff lovely, very helpful, great atmosphere, good food - reasonably well priced for what is served. Great for families too and menu offers a fab Sunday roast. Great location short walk to Archway tube station.

I went into the Oak & Pastor wanting to watch the Wales vs. France on a Friday evening. I was assured that they'd be screening the match, and proceeded to order what was admittedly a very pleasant Steak & Ale pie. The Irish landlady, who is obviously the most charming person she knows, explained that the atmosphere was just how she liked it, and the rugby sounds would be silent. I feel used.

We had Rost pork belly, the wellington and the Aberdeen beef all amazing!!! We will be back for sure! Best gravy we tasted 🥰

Friendly helpful staff, decent priced drinks and a good atmosphere. Both front and rear garden. Food was a bit poor, we all had burgers and the chicken and fish quality was a bit low. Size was fine chips and salad was good.

Been here a few times for a Sunday Roast definitely recommend it, the beef is my favourite, staff are friendly and welcoming can't fault it really 😍

The only down side was that half the staff had those visors on but.... covering only their forehead and eyes!? Really ?! That asides the food is really good and very generous portions.. tha atmosphere is really calm, and the decor fascinating. Come on guys wear your face coverings properly please 🤷‍♀️

I am now a regular at this lovely, warm and efficiently run pub. Levi and the staff are warm, efficient and great staff. I highly recommend this pub if you like a happy, warm and great experience in these dark and uncertain times!

Cute little pub, seating out front and a little beer garden out back, and the loaded chips are excellent and really hit the spot!

My housemates and I had a lovely time in the Oak and Pastor after the change to Tier 2 for London! Levi made us feel right at home, the minute we came in, and suggested a gorgeous red wine that we enjoyed.We felt very safe for the whole of our time there. We were given table service and all of the staff had PPE to make us feel extra safe.Totally recommend!

Una vez más, tengo la suerte de tener este lugar cerca.Visité el domingo 11 de octubre de 2020, la mesa estaba reservada como pedí, el personal estuvo atento a nuestra mesa.Llegó la comida, 2 asados de cordero y 1 ternera, qué pura delicia, todo perfectamente cocinado con las guarniciones absolutamente deliciosas.No puedo alabar al personal especialmente en estos tiempos difíciles.Sirvieron bebidas en nuestra mesa y trajeron la comida a nuestra mesa, nadie se hartó, disfrutaron de lo que estaban haciendo.Ronda de aplausos a los cocineros que incansablemente repartieron comida estrella de Michigan, y si pudiera premiar una, lo haría. También quisiera agradecer a Romana quien ve la operación, gran equipo y organizado, gracias por el fabuloso almuerzo del domingo.La tabla de quesos fue fantástica.

¡Estamos empezando a disfrutar mucho viniendo aquí! Hay espacio para sentarse al aire libre en la parte delantera y escondido en la parte trasera, los cuales son espacios encantadores al sol. El interior está muy bien decorado y se ofrece una gran variedad de bebidas. La comida también es buena, recomiendo la hamburguesa de pollo con ensalada de col y las patatas fritas son deliciosas. El personal es muy capaz, incluso si está ocupado. Puede ver que otros clientes aquí se conocen entre sí y tiene un ambiente agradable de comunidad. Un "pub local", pero no como usted lo conoce.

Visitamos para el almuerzo del domingo ayer 19 de julio de 2020. El servicio fue muy amable y el almuerzo fue increíble, el cordero asado y la carne fueron fantásticos, una porción muy grande y deliciosa y el precio también fue excelente 16 cada uno. Definitivamente una excelente relación calidad-precio.

Esta joya de lugar nunca deja de impresionarme, va de lo bueno a lo mejor. Fuimos a cenar el domingo después de una larga ausencia, te doy mi palabra de que no te puedes quejar de los asados. / Cordero / ternera perfectamente cocinado era suntuoso y todo servido con un buen personal. Máximas notas para todos. Deseando volver.

On the way home, a stop for a quick beer and some snacks. Not that any beers on tap, but the ones they had was good. If your lucky you can have the table in the confessional box.

What a wonderful venue to celebrate a family occasion! The staff couldn’t have been any more brilliant!! Food was fabulous and the decor homely and eclectic. Will definitely return to sample the food menu in the future.

Cenato con la famiglia, non ha un menù ampio ma quello che propone è molto valido, buona la scelta delle birre e i prezzi sono bassi. Locale molto caratteristico e curato.

Minimum card spend, so had to get more than one drink for myself. Long day at work and just wanted ONE pint before heading home. Had to get a pint and a half. ( which is illegal to serve more than one drink to a person at a time..) sad that some pubs still do minimum card spend...

Treated friend and toddler to Sunday lunch and we loved the food, variety and flavours. Mix of meat and veggie eaters - all enjoyed. Good value food and wine. Well done O&P!!

Almorzamos aquí mientras visitábamos a un amigo cerca de Archway. La comida estaba bien, el servicio era bueno y tenía un buen ambiente. Fuimos un domingo y tuvimos una gran tarde tomando unos tragos con buena compañía. Los precios eran razonables para la zona.

He vivido en Londres durante aproximadamente 2 años y medio ahora, pero todavía encuentro muchos lugares nuevos. Nos topamos con este lugar accidentalmente, pero me alegro de haberlo hecho. El domingo asado almuerzo fue uno de los mejores que he tenido. Período.Incluso a las 5 de la tarde sabía que alguien lo había cocinado fresco especialmente para nosotros. ¡Y fue enorme!Lo recomiendo totalmente.

Nice little pub with a friendly atmosphere. Though I do avoid the pub when there is a game on, the bar staff is always smiling and friendly. I am always hesitant to start a tab and leavey card behind the bar, but here it feels safe to do so. As I mentioned earlier, I avoid the place on game days, as a personal preference, but there always seems to be a good atmosphere when a game is on.

A very nice and cozy pub. The staff is always helpful, listen to the guests and make you feel welcome. Animations, a good choice of beers and also some good and savory pubfood. Our definite place to spend a Friday evening ! If you want to have a party or a birthday do not hesitate to ask the staff, they have a very nice room upstairs.

Really love the eccentric decor here, ferried from Ireland from an old church! Cosy corners and back patio. Quiet when we were there for lunch, food average to good.

My partner and I ordered bangers and mash and my oh my, the portions are very generous! The food was very well priced, it was delicious but I wasn't a fan of the onion gravy. It has a strange aftertaste. Aside from that, excellent customer service and very interesting interior; it's called Oak and Pastor for a reason! The pub had a very Gothic British feel to it, esp with the confession booth on the side and it being Halloween when I went. Highly recommended!

Came here with my parents last week as they were visiting and were pleasantly surprised by the food. The price is typical of London and while there isn't much choice what there was tasted lovely -we didn't have it but a couple at another table had the pizza which looked amazing! As I live in the area I will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

I went to this pub with a family group of about 15 people for 'Sunday Roast'. It was truly top notch service and not something you come by often in London.

Sono stata qui a cena con tutta la famiglia (due adulti e due bambini) e ci siamo tornati la sera seguente da tanto siamo stati soddisfatti! Cibo davvero buono, personale gentile e disponibile e birra come quella che ti aspetti di trovare in un vero pub londinese. L’atmosfera è molto piacevole, il locale è pieno di clienti abituali e la musica di sottofondo è davvero perfetta. Assolutamente da provare!

Visitamos aquí un domingo y había hecho una reserva no tontos. El saludo no podría haber sido mejor y me las arreglé para encontrar una mesa para 4 de nosotros. Una buena selección de cervezas y fue ocupado como había fútbol en la pantalla grande también. Volumen era un nivel decente, así que todavía puede tener una conversación sin tener que gritar! Hamburguesa, pescado y patatas fritas y asado fueron todos excelentes. Realmente disfruté el pescado y patatas fritas. No grasienta y raciones para todos eran muy abundantes. Bueno ver un abrazo una salsa con el pollo asado en vez de en el rollo se puede obtener en los sitios. Una gran comida con amigos y un montón de tiempo para ponerse sin sentir presionado. La base de la música era una carga poco después de terminado el fútbol, pero ciertamente no perjudicará nuestra experiencia. No se puede pedir más de buena cerveza y comida y personal amable. Sin duda volveremos y lo recomiendo.

Been here a couple times recently with friends and it really is a hidden gem in the Archway area. Not only is the pub itself charming, especially with the cosy fireplace, but the service there is as top notch as the food. Both times we were served by the lovely Ramona who really goes out of her way to make everybody feel welcome and remembered us from the previous visit. Her banter with customers really sets this pub apart from others from the area and is why we will return again and again. Thank you Ramona!

Manager and staff very friendly and maintain very high standards. The food was exceptional, the calamari was a highlight! The pub was very clean and well looked after, i thoroughly enjoy my visit and so did my friends. Would 100% go again.

We didn't know what to expect but were seriously blown away by the quality of the food and service. We were greeted by Ramona, a new waitress at the pub who was so friendly and provided great recommendations. We had the lamb and beef roast, both were big portions and a very generous helping of gravy! Good selection of condiments too. We also had good wine. In total, for three of us with two bottles of mid-range wine, plus the first round of drinks, and three meat roasts it was only 33 pounds each. Great value and quality considering most places around London will charge 16-20 for a roast and give you a teaspoonful of gravy. The pub has quite an Irish feel to it (think the owners are Irish) with interesting ornaments and an old confessional booth. Don't be put off if the football is on, too. When we were there, two big teams were playing on a Sunday so lots of people in there watching but wasn't an aggressive atmosphere at all. Lots of friends and couples. I highly recommend this place and book before as it gets busy.

Tenía el almuerzo en un pub más hermosas aquí mientras estábamos en el Premier Inn a la vuelta de la esquina. Recomiendo el pescado y patatas fritas a cualquiera que visite. Mi marido tenía la carne que parecía increíble. Muy impresionado con el precio teniendo en cuenta que está en la zona 2 de Londres y la iglesia entorno hizo aún más fabulosa!

Realmente agradable pub, para tomar una copa. La comida es incomible. literalmente. Tenía el pollo hamburguesas y en realidad no podía comer el pollo estaba tan seca y hecha y el panecillo de pan rancio! Sólo deberían restringirnos a no vender comida! Definitely the best vegetarian roast in North London, if not in town. I would recommend even non vegetarians to try the spinach and mushroom Wellington with all the trimmings.Beef was just delicious, very good quality meat from NW5 Meat local butcher.Thank you.

Then steak at this pub cost 13 pound, so I wasn't expecting much, but it wasn't even edible. The steak we had all ordered was so tough we couldn't even chew it.

Went in here on 12/03/2017 whilst visiting London for a gig. My wife and I both had a Lamb Sunday roast. It was absolutely Amazing.Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Probably the best part of my last trip in London took place here. Very good looking English pub, good choice of beers and literally amazing Sunday roast! I had lamb and it was delicious, very tender and so tasty, and also vegetables were cooked perfectly. I really had a good time here, I hope to come back again very soon!

Went in the Oak & Pator the other day as was passing by, very nice little pub with a good friendly barman and the locals was friendly . Nice pint of Peroni also .Worth a visit

used this pub in the 70's when it was the drum and monkey--a proper pub it was then and now its still a proper pub but just nicer--good decor, food and drink---well done

Vi bodde i Pemberton Gardens och gick ut för att leta efter en pub till kvällen. Det finns några restauranger i närheten men med pubar är det mer begränsat. Sprang på detta ställe som visade sig vara väldigt trevligt och mysigt.

We went for Sunday roast and had a wonderful time. Food was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful, and pricing was very fair. Good selection of beer. A nice pub all round. We're lucky to have this as our local.

Went in for a quick pint with friends and discovered an excellent local boozer. Beer gardens back and front, the rear quite secluded, a good selection of beer and an upstairs area that on the night we visited was hosting a free comedy evening. Hillarious fun and only a short walk to the bar!!!

Went here for a Sunday roast as part of a large group. The upstairs function room where we were seated was very nice and a decent size, and the staff were initially helpful and flexible for late-comers.The actual roast itself was very disappointing. Food was luke warm, lamb so fatty I could hardly find any meat to eat on it, floury roast potatoes which looked and tasted suspiciously like shop bought ones and average Yorkshire pudding. The vegetables were nice enough, but there was not enough gravy. Other members of the group also complained of the food being luke warm and the beef being overly rare.The most disappointing part was when I and other guests came to pay. The pub had quoted particular prices when the booking was made, but when we came to pay, I was charged £14 instead of £12. When I queried this the bar staff appeared confused and had a discussion between themselves in front of me. When I said I felt that I should pay the price that had initially been quoted they again had another discussion and then told me I would have to pay £14. I found this behaviour completely unacceptable, unprofessional and rude.I would not recommend this pub for a roast or for good customer service and will not be returning any time soon.

Nice surroundings for a drink but charged for using contactless. Levying a 50p fee for each contactless payment under £10 is a rip off considering the fees levied for these transactions are very low. This is also against the agreements they have with mastercard/visa for being able to use contactless. A poor way to treat customers. My advice - go elsewhere.

I have try this place couple times when i go to visit my relatives around, the serivce is not the best, not so accomodating, i asked for a bloody merry and i can say i have try best around the area, the roast was small but tasty... quite average

Love this pub, it's warm, cozy, good beer selection, they're always playing some cool old rock N roll, friendly service and great food. What more can you ask for.

Popped in for lunch and quiet place to work. Friendly welcome, very atmospheric decoration, in keeping with the name. Comfortable seating, and good music. Arrived during the Six Nations rugby but the match playing was in the background was accompanied by very nice music. The main match was going to be shown, but I left before that. A wonderful pizza, and a box to take away what I could not eat. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and a lot going on. Will certainly be back.

Seen some good reviews on the place as I was visiting London on business. Placed my order at 20:15.... I'm writing this review at 21:34 and still no food in sight. Disappointing...

Have been here a few times with friends as we live just around the corner. Service is always excellent- really friendly and attentive. This time we had a roast (yummy and good value) and I had a great Bloody Mary. Really nice interior too. Looking forward to coming here in summer and sitting in the garden.

I used to live round the corner from this pub, great vibes and really cozy - cute for dates or intimate catch ups! their pizzas are really good and so are there roasts so much so one day I had 1 whole one plus a kids portion and then a sticky toffee pudding after...amazingthey do a baked brie which is lush and also their honey glazed sausages nom nom. alway service with a smile and football is on the projector..absolute win! covered terrace and free wifi
