Number One Thai Restaurant in Sutton

I went to lunch here today. I ordered a pad Thai told the waiter no egg as I don't not have eggs. When she brought the noodles they were very soggy and clumsy looking when asked the reason she said if you don't want egg that's what you get. And she had the audacity to tell me if you want eat or leave and she took my noodles away. And she says every time you come you say no egg. I was so pissed and confused how else would a person convey their dietary needs like I eat no eggs or I am a vegetarian.The waiter was so rude wish no one will be treated as I was. Ruined my day. Sorry I forgot to click a pic of the food as I walked away as I don't want to be in a place that treat people so bad.

This is a hidden gem. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is authentic, exceptionally tasty, fresh and good portion sizes

Have been going here for than 15 years 3 different owner present Owner Tom & Mam are the Best. All the staff atre Great. One waitress looks a bit sad but when she smiles her whole face lights up a different person. Lovely lady

The food was ok. But I had ordered a vegetarian dish, Tau Hu Phad Prik Gaeng, and it had no baby aubergines in it. They then cheekily(?) gave us an extra dish during the mains we didn't order but charged us for it, Thod mum goong. At first, we thought it was part of the mains we had ordered so we ate it. But it wasn't the case. We paid but wasn't pleased we ended up paying more than we expected.

Fantastic food and fantastic service and cozy setting with a good atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Very poor quality. I ordered prawn toast for a starter which had virtually no prawn inside it and then fried rice with king prawns which turned up with 5 prawns inside it. I eat Thai food every week of the year and this is the poorest value for meal I have ever had. I was asked if everything was OK and I explained the above and was told "thank you for the feedback" Disgraceful service and quality of food and value for money. If you're happy to be ripped off come here!

Controlled zone parking....free after 1830/1900. Toilet upstairs. Busy and rightly so. £170 for 5 people starters main desert and drinks.

This is an excellent Thai restaurant with lovely staff and an attentive manager. We have been going to Number One Thai for years and it never disappoints. The menu has great variety and the dishes are all full of authentic Thai taste.

Everything was good until we get the bill. I saw them charging us £2 for chilli in fish sauce. Normally, all the other thai restaurants i go to offer this as a complimentary sauce and if they were going to charge me they should have told me. The server then asked the manager and told me we should pay. Then the manager came and told me she'd knock off £2 from the bill if i didn't order it. Then she started telling me this sauce is never free anywhere else and they all charge. I said i was in another thai restaurant last weekend and they didn't charge..? Then she demanded i told her the name of the restaurant. When i told her the name and location of this other one, she said "they will charge you service fees etc" I said you are charging service fee plus £2 for the sauce? Then she told me nothing is free because we are in economic crisis and they buy everything so i shouldn't expect to get things for free....! This part is really unnecessary and irrelevant. Even if that's what she thought, I have never met any hospitality staff arguing with the customer for the sake of arguing and tried to teach economics. While we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere in the restaurant and all the other staff were nice, what she did completely ruined my dinner and my evening. Me and my friend left the restaurant feeling so uneasy.

The food is characterised by fresh, spicy, genuine flavours and high quality ingredients. The owners and staff are lovely and the restaurant’s jolly atmosphere makes you want to stay all evening

I very rarely post a review but for this restaurant I am pleased to make the effort. I posted a review when the restaurant was first open and it is as good now as it was then. I simply cannot find fault with it. I strongly recommend the No 1 Thai in Sutton to Tripadvisor.

Revisited the restaurant on our second trip to Sutton based on a great previous experience and we were pleased to find the food as good as it was during our first visit. Would definitely recommend the food here

I just read a review seeing someone say they were given a table and bland food horrible taste and service was bad. Never ever had bad food or bland food and also saw they was told table was booked so there was only half an hour. Not sure how food and drinks could be serviced all in half an hour and service be bad after some places I have been. Shame to right such poor reviews of frankly an amazing restaurant with friendly staff who really make you feel welcome. Keep up the good work. Trout is a must and the prawns in filo are amazing too. Keep coming back here. Although it's small we like the atmosphere and friendly staff. Ordered the mixed starter which is always nice, would just like a little more sauce for the Satay. My husband ordered the red beef curry and I had the duck with ginger and chillies which was lovely and spicy. The pad Thai is also really good. We did have to wait for our drinks but upon paying the bill we were given a bottle of prosecco as a Christmas gift which was a nice touch.

Went with my son but i used to go here when it was a wine bar 25 years ago and not much changed really . Same layout , the food was ok but thought it was expensive for what we had. Wouldn’t rush back .

We went there on a Saturday night without booking and were told that they have only a table for half an hour. And we have to rush if want to eat. We were ok with that but unfortunately wrong decision. The food was awful. I ordered veg jungle curry which was so bland that I could not even taste the vegetables. The service was rushed and the food bland and without any taste. The worse just after us another couple arrived without any booking and they were seated without any fus.

We had a meal for the first time here (Friday night) and it was honestly the best Thai food I’ve eaten in England - really tasty dishes, loads of flavour and great portion sizes. Very friendly and attentive staff, couldn’t do more for you. We really enjoyed our meal and will defiantly be visiting again.

Popped in for lunch, it was 1 pm and the lunch time trade was still coming. The Lunchtime menu is extensive and caters for all taste. Service was efficient and the waitress attentive when necessary, The Tom Yun was light and delicious but punched some heat. Our other four main dishes were nicely flavoured and generous portion size, We shall be going back again. Great value for money and a convenient location in Sutton.

In the centre of Sutton, this small restaurant appears very cosy as you enter, well decorated and the staff are good. There speed of service was average but the food was not so great. I had the green curry with prawn, this was too sweet and not as spicy as you usually find in other Thai. My wife had Pad Thai but there was too much Tamarind making it bitter plus an odd flavour. If I went again I would specify how I wanted the food.

Just been again and after ready the review about rude staff I was amazed that could happen here.

Came 10 mins Before lunch service! We were Rudely told to leave with a brush of a band (like a stray dog wanting food) !

First visit to this little gem but will definitely return. Food great, service delightful and cost brilliant. Good choices available with 14 of 17 choices being suitable for vegetarians and pescetarians. Lovely mixed starter and as for the lychee fritters... well ..... . We arrived early at just after 12, by 12.30 the restaurant was virtually full and I heard many comments regarding return visits, good to be back etc, which demonstrates a highly regarded eatery. We got stuck in bad traffic ahead of our booking at Number One Thai, but staff were happy to keep hold of our table once we had informed them. My husband went to park while I ran it to grab our table as we were almost an hour late. The table we were originally given felt cramped particularly due to a big group who were oblivious to the fact that they were not the only people in the restuarant. I asked if it was possible to move. Given the restuarant was practically full they quickly managed to arrange a table for the two of us.

Seeing any bad reviews of this restaurant is beyond me. It’s first class. The service the food and just the best Thai in Surrey.

Food is always really nice, spicy and fresh. Lunch deal is good value and well worth the money. Book in advance if 2+ people.

3 of us went to have something to eat, after work. The place was very nice and the food was amazing. One of the best Thai green curry I have ever had. We've lived in Sutton for 10 years so have been coming here off and on for a long time. Sometimes better than others but generally pretty good. This time however it reached a low. The staff were unfamiliar but very nice and friendly and efficient. We wondered had it changed hands?.....We ordered Kanom jeeb dumplings which were incredibly delicious!...and that was it. The Tom Kha soup was nothing special. The Jungle curry was bland with no heat spice and was missing the main ingredient of lesser ginger (finger root i think) so why serve it? As was the pork stir fry..bland! The prawns in the pad thai looked a bit greyish for my liking so i avoided eating them. My partner did eat and low and behold he woke at 4 am with upset stomach and cramps!! It was not great so we've decided we won't be returning.

Week meal for two. Really tasty food, especially like that they serve Thai crackers rather than normal Chinese style prawn crackers. Also, they have veg tempura when regional Thai cheam does not. Always good food, many thanks.

We don't understand all the fuss with this one! the food is just about average. It is nice, but that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

We had a table booked for 8.30pm on Saturday night. There were 4 of us enjoying a night out as two couples. We had drinks and ordered 4 starters to share and 3 main courses with rice to share. The food was nice, not the best thai I ever had but it was nice. We had a few drinks and chatted in between food. Both men went outside for a cigarette we were asked if we wanted dessert but we asked if we could wait for our husbands to return. We were then told it was too late the kitchen was closed....at 10.15pm!! Really?? Unfortunately I saw takeaways still being picked up long after we were told the kitchen was closed. Disappointed we weren't told earlier the kitchen would close at a certain time!!!

Despite the small frontage of this restaurant it is popular for a reason. Amazing service with a smile and awesome food. So popular in my family, their telephone number is in my phones speed dial. Love it, love it, love it.

After a long day sight seeing in London we were looking for tasty food near our hotel in Carshalton. Stumbled upon this place around 6pm and asked if we could come back at 7pm for food and although it was a busy saturday night they readily accepted our reservation. The food was delicious, served in no time at all and the staff were very lovely. The menu was extensive and portion sizes were just right. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely return.
